I DESPERATELY need a home. I am going to have to figure it out myself. I don't have the $ to pay anyone and have no construction knowledge so I cannot express how much your vids are about to help me. No one thinks i can do this. That said I HAVE to. I have 3 very very very special reasons why I have to make it. I didnt survive being shot and an addiction to loose the only thing that matters to me ....nope. Momma has gotta get this going here. Im so excited i just got the land to build on but i have a VERY small budget. God willing this is going to change our lives forever. What you ladies are doing is AWESOME & from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU ❤❤❤

@AprilWilkerson thanks for the lesson. What is funny is I watched your latest video earlier then I decided since I have an upcoming workshop on building tiny homes...I decided to look it up to get a jump start on lessons. That's how I discovered your friend's channel and ended up right back here! "It's a small world after all..." lol.
I'm excited about the workshop but nervous too. I'm driving 3 hours each way in November...strong possibility of snow and ice here in Nova Scotia. Plus meeting new people and not knowing anyone...I don't want to make a fool of myself so I'm binge watching tiny house builds...lol. Thanks for explaining everything.

@AprilWilkerson thanks. I spoke with the guy today...seems really nice. Apparently it's just talking in this workshop due to the weather. The do an actual build in the better weather. Still looking forward to it.

Our 1466 sq ft tract home in California is post and beam construction, with outside perimeter foundation, but there are no joists. It's just 1 1/8'' tongue and groove plywood laid right on the beams. And the beams are 4 feet apart! Very bouncy.

"it is just way too fun building things with friends" I wish I knew that feeling. I tried remodeling my house with my brother last year, he bossed me around to the point where I stayed away for over a week because he was psychotic. He flipped on me because I paid an engineer for advice. Now I'm finishing my kitchen, ceiling and hallway by myself. Took a year for me to even get back in the groove to want to finish. Nice work April.

I'm not sure how much wind you get in the woods there, but where I live, that whole house would blow off the beams since you only toe-nailed it in. I have to use metal brackets to attach the joists to the beams.

I personally have 2 chargers for my battery tools and often use them at the same time. I also have some solar panels that I just need to finish off so I don;t draw any electricity from them or my fridge inside my house. The more we do things like that the better our planet will be in the long run. Love your shows April and Anne! Great job in framing. Piece of advice: IF you are alone and doing the framing first build your walls then add your siding. The weight difference is huge. I used to do a lot of siding back in the day all by myself and I'd use a 2x2 or 2x4 and nail it along the edge of the outer floor joists so I could just lay the sheet of T-111 right on it and level it and nail it in from there. It holds the weight so you don't have to. Love ya girls! Great videos

Very nice. Good job. I would have put bridging in between floor joists(to spread weight loads) and used tongue and groove plywood . Don't know how cold it gets there, could have used poly and insulation in the floor?

You have a great talent. Great work, excellent sketch up and informational video.Try not lifting such heavy loads, you are going to wear yourself out before your time. It's all fun and games when you are young. Also if you put blocking between the floor joists it tightens up the floor structure. Good job on the floating foundation, small buildings do just fine this way.

No need to wait to install the second top plate. Just leave the plate on one end short and the other long. When you stand them up, just lap the long end over the lower top plate of the adjacent wall. Tip: If boards have a slight crown to them, assemble them so that the crown on the lower top plate is the opposite of the upper top plate. When nailed together, the two boards will work to straighten each other.
