Not driven by consumption and materialism? I totally disagree. He didn’t make his clothes, his bedding, his curtains, his computer, his freezer, his furniture, his bike, the bio digester or the building materials. Those were most likely made by someone in China or Mexico. They then were put on a ship and a truck that was powered by carbon fuels and brought to market. He may be living a minimalistic lifestyle but don’t be disillusioned, he is still a consumer.

@@agustintintin2126 dude, the world is full of landowners who dont mind or even notice someone on their property. Loads of people who own acres upon acres of woodland, pastures and all. A feudal system involves enslavement, a surf is a person whose labor comes with ownership of the land they're living on, unpaid, and there's no free will.
This guy has realized and lived other ways. He's excersizing a privilege really. Makes no romantic claims about people who are exploited and empoverished. It's all his choice and he as well as the land owner can make new and different ones.
Seems you haven't picked up on who this guy is, what makes him tick and what he's all about. Some peopke spend their lives and money on throwing themselves out of airplanes with nylon wings, some climb the nortj side of K 2 after raising a million bucks, some build survival bunkers out the back of yheir property costing mor than a small home or collect military arsenals in their garage and quote scripture every chance they get and you're bothered by this guy minding his own business, leaving the tiniest footprint ever?
I'm so grateful I don't have your problems.

It does seem to be a fair and mutually beneficial exchange for him and the homeowners, almost like the old fashion days of having a caretaker cottage where the groundskeeper lives. I also like how he doesn’t try to glamorise of idealise his situation nor hide the challenges his choices can pose. The most important comment he said was there are pluses and minuses to EVERY choice we make and life is never easy nor carefree and can be unpredictable but we do have a choice about how we prioritise what we invest our energy into.

Because what he's doing isn't practical or legal in many places. He's taken the concept of downsizing to one step above camping. I applaud his effort, but I couldn't do that where I live because of local ordinances, and I live in a very small town that doesn't have a whole lot of rules. I couldn't do it even if I lived out in the country because even the county has regulations.

Tiny homes are "illegal" just let that set in, making yourself a home to live in rather than living on the streets is deemed illegal in many places.
Yes im sure they will make a "legit" reason on health and safty but I bet you the key part is taxation and profiting off your home for it like they do to millions.
I would build myself a tiny home with the last amount of money if I had to choose living in a "tiny house" or the streets.

And guess what else is ridiculous? You can’t put a camper or mobile home on land you own in most places in eastern palm beach county, FL. You have to build a house to code with permits and all!! There’s affordable lots, but you can’t live there in any type of housing you wish, very sad indeed. And property taxes are ridiculous too! Many houses for sale come with $200 a month in property tax, just so your kids can go to a gang banger F rated school!!!

    • @bigvalley4987

Due to the epidemic of homelessness in San Diego CA. They are relaxing the rules if it is a prefab. However, the city still collect the taxes, for the permit. And you can put it in your backyard.
