    This is probably the most useful and concise information available. I've change oil on my cars for 30+ years and this guy is good. I'm about to buy this type of Jeep and needed to see how the filter is different (all my vehicles have had the housing as part of the filter). Great job Rob and camera crew too.

    Take the oil cap off first then remove the oil drain plug. When you pull the plug the air will push the oil out and give a nice flow.

    • @dr.michaelbennett8597
      @dr.michaelbennett8597 2 роки тому +6

      Actually, no. The air doesn’t push anything. It’s that the seal won’t hold back any flow if you take the cap off first, which would be true if engines didn’t have crankcase ventilation systems

      @@dr.michaelbennett8597It's called the thermos effect. Go up on your roof and plug the vent stacks to your plumbing--you will no longer be able to flush your toilet or have water go down the drains!

    Just changed my oil/filter after watching this! This guy is amazing! I watched Rob and then changed my interior-cabin filter (inside the glove box) and the engine air filter.
    I never liked changing the old style oil filters that needed the tool/wrench to remove them.. this one was so easy - yet I needed a metric 24mm socket.
    I have 2018 Wrangler JL 3.6 Lt.
    I have saved this site as a favorite especially since Rob is so good with his delivery, explanations and filming.

    I’ve alway loved the Jeep Wrangler and finally after 34 years I just got a JL. I drove my GMC truck for 20 years and worked on it myself as a backyard mechanic. Man the oil change on the JL looks so simple, it was a pain on my GMC. As I female I have also thought it was important to know as much as you can about the vehicle your driving. Lord knows I’ve stop to help women change their tire over the years. They should know how it do it if the are driving it. Great video, thanks.

    •  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you, it makes me upset to see folks who will drive it but know nothing about how to fix the simplest items on their vehicles. I made my daughter go through auto mechanic's for just that reason. She knew more about fixing her car then her ex husband ever did. What a mook. Anyway it's very nice to know there are especially women who aren't left on the side of the road who can't do the simplest of fixes on their vehicles. Short story. My Daughter and the Mook were on a long trip and the adjustment bracket broke on the alternator. They couldn't find one anywhere in the town they were in. Mook boy said, "What are we gonna do? My daughter said, "Go into the auto parts store and buy some ratchet straps." He did, and she rigged them up to keep tension on the alternator. It worked until they got all the way back home, where they replaced the bracket. Smart lady My Daughter is. Keep on learning about your ride and stay safe out there.

      Do I need oil ms-6395 spec , what happened if is not? I'm using mobil 1 since I bought my Jeep and realize mobil 1 didn't have ms-6394 requirements, now days my engine sound like garbage

    • @QwikKota
      @QwikKota 2 роки тому +2

      @@richardgarcia6201 First off, I highly doubt your engine noise has anything to do with Mobil 1. That oil is used in some of the most expensive vehicles on the planet. The Jeep manual for the JL says: "Equivalent full
      synthetic SAE 0W-20 engine oil can be used but must have the API Starburst
      trademark". I interpret this as Mobil 1 being acceptable. My Ram requires the MS-6395 spec as well but does not mention an equivalent oil. I use Pennzoil Platinum in the Ram but don't see why the dealer would deny warranty if Mobil 1 is used in the Jeep.

    Hi Robb... the only item I like to do, is check the oil before I close the hood. I know you just put 5 quarts in but for peace of mind I like to see the oil on the oil stick.
    Plus if I forgot to put the oil pan plug back in I will know it right away because there will not be any oil on the stick. Years ago I did just that, forgot the plug and all the new oil went right out of the engine. So now you know why I always check the stick before I close the hood. LOL

He said it needed a special this/that and it would cost $68 vs. the $28 I just paid for my other car moments later. Needless to say, I'll be changing it myself especially since that filter is on the top.

      It could be a few things… always check both sides of the dipstick.
      1. Didn't wait for the oil to settle if checked to soon.
      2. Didn't insert the dipstick all the way.
      3. If the vehicle bought was used it could be the wrong dipstick. If not, trust the dipstick if inserted correctly.
      4. Possible oil leak
      I'm not sure how the oil is bottled but there is also a possibility the incorrect amount was bottled from the supplier.
      I have a feeling they have checks before they hit the stores.
      I'm sure you figured this out already but if not I hope this helps somewhat.

Or is it empty and just pump oil up in and through it as it’s running. Cause my housing is empty but the the dipstick says I have the right amount and the oil looks good but the housing is empty

    If you live in CA where motor oil is known to cause cancer, you should wear rubber gloves when doing this to keep the oil off your skin. Just sayin' - SAFETY FIRST!

      In PA we roll around in oil to get a good coating on us for the winter. It helps stop the road salt.

      During my recent trip to San Francisco I noticed very few Wranglers on the city roads over there. I assume they all have moved to Texas and Colorado.

    You completely glossed over locating the oil drain plug. For people who have never done an oil change, I would think that’s a pretty important bit of information.

    Good content, but I can't help but notice those stubby arms you have while showing us how to reset the oil. Ugh.
