First DIY oil change in like 25 years... 😅 Couldn't have been easier with impeccable instructions. Oh the money I could have saved for a down on a third Jeep. Thanks team.
Thank you sir! New like and subbed!!! Got a silver 23 JL 6sp (2door of course 😅) and just trying to do my due diligence to take care of this beautiful machine. So far I have acquired the following tips. 1) Make sure to do my first oil change at 500 or so while engine is breaking in 2) make sure filter housing Ở ring is CORRECTLY installed, different sizes and heights of oil filter between different generations, easy to place wrong 3) Make sure to NOT overtighten oil filter housing, to prevent cracks. 4 Don't wait for 10k mi change! Change at 5k 5) fill correct amount 5L 😅 So glad this knowledge is freely accessible nowadays. Thank you
How? Like genuinely how??? The dashboard literally says “hold ok to reset”. If that part isn’t intuitively obvious to you you should be nowhere near an engine and probably pay someone to change your oil.
I used moble one since the first oil change on my 04 wrangler and the same in the trans and diffs. The frame rust made me buy the Gladiator. It was perfect except the frame. Thank you for your video
On 11-30-2020 I ordered my first ever Jeep. It is a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with the 3.6 Liter Pentastar V-6 mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission. My heart wanted another manual transmission but my need dictated buying an automatic. My Jeep arrived at the dealership on 02-12-2021 and I did all the paperwork to buy it on 03-01-2021. So far I totally love the Jeep and have bought several things to help me out when I take the Jeep out off roading. With my Jeep, I’m not quite yet to the mileage where I need to get the oil changed but when I do I will either go with Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oil along with a Mobil 1 oil filter cartridge, (I have used this set up for decades on all of my vehicles.). I may also start using Royal Purple High Performance motor oil, Royal Purple HPS High Performance Street motor oil, or Royal Purple XPR Extreme Performance Racing motor oil with either a Royal Purple oil filter cartridge assuming that they make one or the Mobil 1 oil filter cartridge. The last option that I am considering using is Amsoil Signature Series motor oil, or Amsoil XL Boosted motor oil, or Amsoil OE motor oil, or Amsoil Dominator Racing Oil motor oil with either an Amsoil oil filter cartridge or a Mobil 1 oil filter cartridge. If I go Amsoil, I’m thinking that the signature series motor oil will be my best motor oil option to go with. Last, in spite of how long these companies all say that their motor oil will last for, I will still continue changing my oil every 2,500 to 3,000 miles to ensure that the motor oil and oil filter cartridge are both being replaced well before the motor oil and oil filter cartridge start losing their protecting abilities.
Thanks for the video. I have to insist to the dealer service reps that it should be 5 qt. (for JL/JT) and not 6 qt. but they still mess it up and overfill it with 6 qt.
I couldn’t tell in video, but when installing the oil ring back on cap, did you put it snug against the top? Or in a groove just before the top? When I changed my oil ring, I forgot to look and was questioning myself on how far to put the oil ring back on.
Great Video!!Question: added 5 quarts but when I poured the old oil into the 5qt container it overflowed by about 1/2 qt. Do I need more or did the last person put too much?
As long as the oil is full synthetic, the correct weight and is API/ILSAC approved , it won’t “void” the warranty regardless if it doesn’t meet the MS-6395 FCA oil recommendation. That according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. I believe until 2009 Mobil One was the preferred Chrysler oil. When the company filed for bankruptcy, they apparently owed M1 money for oil that was purchased but not paid for...and that’s why FCA doesn’t recommend M1...I ran M1 5W-20 in my 2014 Wrangler and had no issues...
When I did my oil change on my 22 gladiator it seemed like less that 5 qts. Alot less. When I filled with 5qts. It's seemed overfilled on the dip stick. So I'm not sure if it needs less than 5 even though the manual says 5.
I didn't torque my plug. I just tightend it and gave it a "little extra". Should I really torge it? It's probably about 10-15 ft lbs if I had to guess.
Weird, must have been something the cataloging team has done. Check this link out here: www.northridge4x4.com/part/engine-oil-fluids/01020-royal-purple-multi-grade-motor-oil-0w20-1-quart
This was extremely descriptive and helpful for an oil change tutorial… I didn’t know the pan screw or the oil filter cap had torque measurements.👍👍

Buy a used jeep. You don’t need payments
Finally. Someone who uses a torque wrench on the drain plug and most importantly, the filter canister. Thank you.
I haven’t changed my own oil since high school. This is helpful as I am commencing work on my Gladiator 👍 💯
Glad it helped

Glad the video helped!
More than two years later, and I just finished doing my 2020 s gladiator.
Thank you for the helpful video!
Same here. Done paying $180 to get it done at the dealership
I use this video each time I change my oil. So many good reminders here. Thank you once again, just changed my oil and filter tonight. 👍✌️
Glad it helps!
The part about resetting the oil gauge was very helpful on the dashboard
How? Like genuinely how??? The dashboard literally says “hold ok to reset”. If that part isn’t intuitively obvious to you you should be nowhere near an engine and probably pay someone to change your oil.
Just did my first ever oil change with this video, great instructions - thanks!
Glad it helped!
Easy?
Its better to use a 13mm socket with long extension to take out oil drain plug. Keeps oil from getting all over your hand...
Nice tip!
This has got to be the easiest oil change ever. Why paid the dealer $70 to do this???? $30 in less than 20 minutes I did it myself!
I used moble one since the first oil change on my 04 wrangler and the same in the trans and diffs. The frame rust made me buy the Gladiator. It was perfect except the frame. Thank you for your video

I won't be using mobil 1 oil. Better go for penzoil platinum if you want better protection for your car
@@tofuman7456, I’ve gone with Amsoil Signature Series and use Amsoil 20k oil filters but do my oil changes around every 2,500 to 3,000 miles.
Very helpful! I might try it next time on my JL
Thanks for the video. I have to insist to the dealer service reps that it should be 5 qt. (for JL/JT) and not 6 qt. but they still mess it up and overfill it with 6 qt.
We hear that all too often.
This made it very easy!!! And it was fun!

Looks Easy and simple, love it!
Just realized that I need a torque wrench for below 50 ft lb. My only one is above 50 for doing lug nuts.
They are quite handy to have for smaller items.
Great Video!!Question: added 5 quarts but when I poured the old oil into the 5qt container it overflowed by about 1/2 qt. Do I need more or did the last person put too much?
Sounds like the last person put more into it.
Thank you gay, it was very good explained!!!
Excelente video. Muy preciso y resumido
Mil gracias per tu comentario!
Thanks, good to know.

Thanks for the info!
How about doing the auto transmission oil sequence !?
We covered that in our PPE Trans Pan video: ua-cam.com/video/kaZO4ZQjHo0/v-deo.html
Great video. Very helpful
Glad it helped!
Does it need chassis lube? Thank you.

5 quarts is what the factory says and that is down 1 art from the JK 3.6.
What Oil Filter did you use? It's hard for me to see what type you are using in your vid. I think that it says "MO-349".
Yes, it's an MO-349, AKA Mopar 68191349AC
You can get them here: www.northridge4x4.com/part/oil-filters/68191349ac-mopar-engine-oil-filter-3-6l
@@northridgenation Thanks! Excellent video too by the way, thanks again! ")
In the final step you DO NOT put your foot on the break to clear the change engine oil notification.
Thank you you just save me some money
Glad it helped!
I’m curious where the severe duty oil interval is shown?
We found it in the owners manual.
@@northridgenation I looked but didn’t see anything. I’ll look again.
I didn't torque my plug. I just tightend it and gave it a "little extra". Should I really torge it? It's probably about 10-15 ft lbs if I had to guess.
Just past snug about 1/4 turn has always worked for me just as long as you don't over tighten to the point of having to break it loose next time.
Way not ues mopar pro oil 0w-20 is that best for the engine.Or you can ues any 0w-20 oils.
Use can use any brand of quality oil. You don't have to use Mopar.
Thanks for the video!
You bet! Thanks for watching.
Thank you!
When I drain out, it doesn't drain a 5 quart. It drains about 4.8 quarts may be. Is that normal?
Are you letting it drain for 15 mins or more? Sometimes it takes awhile for the engine to fully drain.
@@northridgenation This time I did drain it for about 15 min. I will check again next time.
Hello does mobil 1 meet those requirements?
Yes, Mobile 1 meets Chrysler MS-6395 spec.
Is there armor on that oilpan? It looks different than mine.
Not yet. We'll probably be doing one of these on it:
www.northridge4x4.com/part/skid-plates/mb1106-motobilt-skid-plate-system-bare-steel
That might be the easiest oil change ive ever seen.. no more reaching in terrible sharp places lol
You think thats easy... Check out the Baxter Adapters, they make it even easier!
ua-cam.com/video/cu44Ys7OoZA/v-deo.html
Valvoline or castrol? Which one do you recommend?
Both Valvoline and Castrol are good oils.
FYI - The link to the oil change kit has red line oil, not royal purple that you used in the video
Weird, must have been something the cataloging team has done.

In the manual, it says no more than 10,000 miles
