If it wasn't for you, I'd never use this. I watched thousands of videos about iRacing and Quest 3 optimization and no one to teach about this thing, so easy. What kind of of headroom are you aiming for? Just wondering at what point I can start to think about increasing some graphics settings. Edit: great vids btw, I find them really helpful and have subbed
Hi, thank you for the feedback and I appreciated the subscription. Generally I tend to play on the safe side, some of my other subscribers say a I am bit to safe, but I do try and aim for somewhere around 30%, which I feel gives me some extra room in case I am on a crowded track. But it does depend on what your system is capable of, and which sim you are using. For iRacing aim for around 30%, but if it's at 20% you will probably still be able to race, but you might see some frame drops in challenging conditions, lots of smoke, rain, tracks where you can see a long way into the distance, for example. For other sims, such as AMS2 or ACC, you will have to drop that aim to a much lower aspirational level as those sims are more demanding, especially in VR.
Amazing video. I am setting up my new Quest 3 and was considering using OpenXR. Now I am. Did you adjust any of the settings in the Oculus debug tool as well? If so, what did you adjust?
Hi, thank you for the feedback. I only have a few things adjusted in the ODT - mostly just the Encode rate, which I have set to 450. But you can find other stuff that is beneficial to sim racing in this video about the ODT - ua-cam.com/video/ZO9A39eypbQ/v-deo.htmlsi=daN4SDYgYAwtoTZh
Very well explained. I was always afraid of more faff with the open XR toolkit but Im going to give this a go. I also run a 4070 with Q3 so I will start with your settings. Now its in open XR can I use race lab overlays in VR? as they don't work from oculus setting? Can I also use this for ACC, it awful in VR. Ive Subscribed
Hi, thank you for the feedback. Yes, I was in the same place as you, not really wanting to faff with something else just to go racing, but in the end the whole process was fairly painless and it does really improve iRacing, as I use it, which is from the standalone UI, not via Steam. For racing in the rain, in iRacing, it seems to be something that I really can't do without, although I still have to back off my refresh rate in the Meta app to 72Hz. And the OpenXR is set to Balanced. Then rain is usable for me. ua-cam.com/video/GnHaefAGzcI/v-deo.htmlsi=2UvJH7nr74S1zUsE The only downside for me with OPenXR is the tracks textures, on some tracks, aren't always as good as without, but it's a minor point when gaining performance. I have not yet had much luck with overlays in VR with iRacing, which is irritating as many other sims, such as AMS2 and ACC have them included by default, with no extra app to pay for. ACC has a TON of overlays that you can use via the Content Manager MOD. so, yeah, iRacing is behind the curve here. Some new overlays are supposed to come in the future (ish), but from the previews iRacing have show, they are underwhelming compared with what you can get with Race Labs, using a monitor. It does sometimes feel that as far as iRacing is concerned, VR Users are unloved children. For ACC, you are probably using Steam? To do that you need to some extra stuff installed. That again looks like a faff, but I have been assured it is also easy. So, video to come on that subject in the near future. This would then mean you could (theoretically) use OpenXR for all steam sims. We shall see... Thank you for the subscription. Much appreciated.
@@OlderGamersPerspective Thank you for such a detailed reply. Would be great if I racing just had radar. At so ACC this vid might help its for LMU, but at 11:50 he shows how to get it to run with out steam, he told me it should be the same for AAC.
@@linzkirk Can you give me the whole link? This one didn't work for me. But yes, if you get OpenXR working for LMU, it should work for all sims on steam. Yes, radar would be really nice, and LMU has this now for VR. Have you tried LMU in VR? It's pretty cool, although not officially supported.

@@Chader9 it can be displayed in either Open XR, by accessing it from the Performance tab and turning overlay to either FPS or Advanced. If you want the meta one, you need to load up Oculus Debug tool and access it at the bottom from the Performance option. That any help to you?
@@OlderGamersPerspective Kinda. I already know how to access the separate overlays. The Oculus one is cool but far too large for regular use.
