Ohhh the last starfighter
SUPER helpful. Thank you
Well, after much investigation and thinking, I've went for the RTX4070ti super, I know there's better out there, but from what I've researched, it gives the best bang for the buck, it's still WAY too expensive at £750 ( more if you buy it on finance like I had to) but at least I'll be able to play MSFS in VR ( Quest 3) nicely..my RTX 3060ti *Almost* cuts it, but not quite..not at the levels i want anyway, I can't wait .I'm all excited 😂.. you'd think an old fart like me would be jaded..but no . We will ALWAYS be chasing better graphics and smoother playing, I know this .I've been gaming for 35 years
I'm an older gamer too 👴🧟♂️ (54) I mostly play stuff in VR, racing Sims, flight Sims etc, I have built a flight rig and a racing rig, not massively high end, but good enough for me..I'm currently using an RTX 3060ti OC ( so close to your old 3070) but I've always struggled to get a smooth flight in MSFS at higher settings and now MSFS 2024 is out, even more so.. racing Sims not really a problem as I'm going too fast to worry too much about graphic fidelity ( to a point) But with flying ( often in a helicopter 🚁 ) it needs to look good, and be smooth so, am about to pull the trigger on an RTX 470TI or super, but it's a big chunk of change for me, and will DEFINITELY get it in the neck from the Mrs ,😮 . So I have to choose wisely..your video was very helpful thanks 😀
I'm 61 and have a similar flight sim rig, it pisses me off when younger UA-camrs etc assume you just stop gaming when you hit a certain age, I've been gaming for 50 years, seen ALL the innovations, graphical fidelity improves, but gameplay ability is key ✊ I DESTROY younger gamers in COD on a daily basis and always will 🤣
@@David-fr9ve haha, good on you mate !
After the new update I am struggling to Hit near the 70-90 fps specialy at daytona. I have some fear to Play nordschleife… what I can do to have more fps in VR with the Quest 3
Wow, what great video very detailed info on the ODT. I have slowly over time learned more and more with that tool, your channel video was by far better than most of others out there on the internet. I have been struggling to get VR functioning on my PC w/13th Intel i7 CPU & GPU 4070 for a few weeks now. It wouldn't play any demanding VR games very will, even old PC VR stuff from 2017. I factory reset my PC and was hunting for tips to get the best out of my PC for VR after that reset process. The VR game play good to great after that reset, I have no idea what was going on with PC. I'm a graphic hog & love experiencing VR in the best possible settings that my PC can handle. Is it recommended to download the VR games to the same hard drive to help sort out PC trouble & performance issues? I noticed you mentioned that within this video. I think that may have been some of my PC troubles. I let my son play VR on my PC a lot and notice him downloading games to three different hard drives but the game were all random within the those 3 hard drives and some games seems to be on more than one of the hard drives, prior to my PC reset. If you could please a question @OlderGamersPerspective Do you have any experience with using the PSVR2 with a PCVR? It is a popular headset for PC these days after that great sale on it had during the past Christmas holiday. I had to gift myself the headset during the holiday, I love OLED screens for VR after the original Quest & PSVR. I can't seem get the PSVR2 running will at all, like my Quest 3 on the PC. (Sony has really dropped the ball with the availability of their official PC adapter.) I have a secondhand PC adapter that function like the official Sony PC adapter and I know it works well, I have try two different second adapter with both working well from two different companies, it my PC perform I need addressing with my PSVR2. I know it has to be most likely be the SteamVR setting? The PCVR/Rift VR games within the Meta Link App can be played with a PSVR2 with Revive add within SteamVR, however they play rough also for me as well. The PSVR2 headset is wonderful in my opinion, a great VR PC VR headset option for people. I just wish I could get the best experience from it on my PC. Also if you have a Discord link group I would love to join, to research VR stuff over there. Thanks for time & also a youtube Subscriber after discovering your video.
It’s probably called openkneeboard because it’s open source and originally designed for flight sim. Or atleast the developer wanted to use it for flight sim. And a kneeboard is used for flight planning documents like approach plates and such.
Thanks Sir your vídeo helps me a lot! 👏🏻
Hi, glad the video helped you out and have fun with the HF8. I know I do :)
“Us mere mortals” haha love it.
Glad you liked that line. Sometimes, when I watch UA-cam videos, if feels like I am one of the very few content creators who does NOT own a 4090. Which to me is a little crazy as according to the steam hardware survey, the top 3 GPU's were 3060's and 4060's. And you have to go all the way down to place 29(!) before you see the 4090 appear with just 1.16% of the gaming population using one. My card, the 4070super, is in 18th place, with the 4070 at 11th. Now, I know that not every gamer is on steam, but still, with so many players, but still, to give advice on setting up a 4090 to the gamers out there, kinda feels like a Doom Player with all the cheat codes unlocked trying to help someone stuck in the base game. The advice is of course correct, but the limitations faced by the base game player are going to be wildly different. Rant over :) That being said, if I could afford a 4090...
@ my first card was a 2070 super. Man that’s card was a tried & true. Ran my flight sims quite well on VR. now I run a 4070ti. I love it. Ohh,, btw I followed your settings to the T on LMU with steamVR resolution to 150. Absolutely superb.
I take it you replace the default iracing blackboxes with these ?
You can do, or you can use the blackboxes for whatever you feel works for you (like tuning the FFB, which I don't think is anywhere in these overlays), and combine it with the iOvleray stuff. Choice is yours.
Hi. Do you know if this would work in ACC? Obviously with another overlay than iOverlay :-)
I am afraid I don't know as I haven't tried it, but I think that iOverlay is specific to iRacing. However, they do have their own discord channel, might be worth popping in there and asking.
I ran it with 3070 i7 11th gen how do you turn off the hud please?
In the options menu of AMS2, you should be able to find an entry called Edit HUD. Go there and see what options you like. I think there is also a shortcut you can enable to simply toggle hud on and off, but I haven't used the HUD in AMS2 for a while, so I am not 100% sure.
@OlderGamersPerspective thanks 😊
would work in a 4060 ti?
Possibly, depends really on the strength of your system. You will have to lower some of the settings, and probably only use 72Hz, but in theory, it should work. Just not to the same level of detail.
Can i use the software from getting telemetry from Xbox series x ? Am playing ACC and i really need this!!
I don't know, as I no longer have an Xbox. Best bet would be to pop into the NLR discord channel, and ask there.
I’d love to see you use virtual desktop and test it all out. My performance is much better with VD over airlink and cable link
Hi, it's certainly something I want to look into in the future, but currently I don't have a dedicated router to handle Virtual Desktop (mine is 5G), but once I have that in place, at some point in the future, I will look at this again. Until then, my optimisation guides will have to recommend cable connection.
Great video! I'm just getting into the world of sim racing and have a Quest 3 with my 4080 super. I'm setting up iracing now so not sure if this issue will persist there but I seem to be having a super sampling issue in games and thought you may know the cause since I cannot find anything about it online! In ACC you can use VR pixel density settings to increase the image quality without scaling the resolution the only issue is it doesn't matter if I have it set on 70% or 200% it looks the exact same. On AMS 2 super sampling has the same effect, it doesn't improve image quality which leads me to believe that super sampling isn't working. Any ideas?
I don't use super sampling myself, I prefer to use the Oculus Debug tool to increase the Encode rate to 450. This I find makes a big difference to the visual quality. Have you tried that instead of SS? If you do, make sure you reset SS to defaults.
To turn off asw all you need to do is press ctrl+num1 (numeric keyboard 1, not top row 1). Best thing is you can do this on the fly, without restarting anything.
Hi, thank you for commenting. Yes, I have tried this in the past and found that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think the most reliable way to turn of ASW is to use the open XR toolkit and set Turbo to ON, this seems to disable it the best, but it still can return from the dead.
@@OlderGamersPerspective I've always found this works 100% with all my oculus/meta headsets, since Rift cv1. Also, all my sim buddies use this all the time. Your issue could be caused by a faulty/dirty keyboard I guess. Either that, or if you're like me, Fat Typo Fingers, lol! Since upgrading my PC to a i913900k/rtx4090 I haven't found OpenXR Toolkit is necessary anymore. Fewer the in-between apps the better imho. Lots of ways to skin the same cat, So, whatever works best for you is great imho.
When i launch iracing my vr just keeps showing my monitor 1 it doesn't switch to the vr screen like yours how do i fix this?
How are you connecting to your PC? With the Meta app or via Virtual desktop?
My screen is like 45 degrees of center and I don’t know how to sit straight in the car. Any thoughts? Tried the meta position reset and nothing happens
In which ever sim you are using, look for a Recentre VR command in one of the options menus, and bind a button on your wheel to that command. Once in the sim, and in the car, and staring straight ahead, press that button and you should then be centred in your car.
Very Nice indeed ! I Stream my self on VR and i found that your footage is a bit more stable ( or my head is bouncing more than yours or is something in the debug otpions ? )
Thank you for the feedback :) In the graphics tab, right at the bottom of the Visuals tab, is a setting called Lock to Horizon, which I have set to high. Try this.
Wow
Thank you :)
Thanks for all the info. Very helpful. Subscribed!! Would love to know how I can record what I see in VR. (Made simple for an older gamer) 👍🏼
Thank you for the feedback, I will add your request to my ideas list of videos to be created :)
I actualy use 120hz, 2 pixel per eye, 0.8;0.4 FOV with my 4090 and 7800x3d and i get image quality almost near to dp VR headset.
Yep, the FOV reduction will gain you some performance, and having a beefy system also helps :) Sadly the 4090 is beyond my budget, as it is for a number of people. But the FOV trick is a good one for people who are on border line systems and finding it difficult to maintain a stable frame rate at any Hz rate.
The hud is awesome
It's great isn't it? Put's iRacing to shame, even the new one they are advertising on the iRacing dev blog doesn't look this good in VR.
Yeah speaking of the Hudson, it's still off as it is only shown in cinema mode not in the 3d space so it looks weird.
I think most HUDS will display in this space, and not VR space.
Also good tips for better performance are: - reduce the render resolution in steam (I use 90% with a 3080ti) - set the refresh rate to 80 hz in Virtual Desktop Both settings have a much greater impact on performance than a lot of the in-game settings and you don't notice the difference that much.
Yes indeed. I find 72Hz to be the most reliable, but a lot of people want 90Hz, so I try to figure out the settings for 90Hz, although I do mention that 72Hz is less strain on most systems, in VR.
4060 ti 8gb is good?
The 4060 ti will probably struggle at these graphical settings, but if you lower some of the settings, you should be able to run most sims.
@@OlderGamersPerspective Thanks for the answer, I will do it in terms of graphics and I will try, thanks and happy new year ^^

Very well DONE! it sured my Quest 2 issues! Thank YOU!!!
Hey, glad you found the video helpful :)
Those jaggies look a bit shit at 2xmsa, I think I'll leave it for now.
Yeah, they don't look very pretty, but I am working now on improving this with the Oculus debug tool and restricting the amount of pixels the headset needs to render. I'll be doing a video on this once LMU releases.
i use an oculus quest 2, and it wont work with openXR in the first place, i cant set openXR as default runtime and if i try open the sim in openXR mode, it just shows up on my monitor instead of my headset. any ideas on how to fix it? thanks in advance
Are you accessing iRacing through the standalone UI or via Steam?
I use standalone UI

@@OlderGamersPerspective sorry for the late response, but i would love to. could you send the invite again? it expired for me. Thanks!
@@DaLuta29 discord.gg/zKhmz8eN there you go :)
I bought the game yesterday. Seems to be running pretty well on my 4080 and Pimax Crystal. A couple of things I've noticed. The car dash display appears a bit dull to me compared with AMS2 and ACC. And also the Speedo HauD in the bottom right seems to be positioned directly above the rear view camera screens in cars. Not sure how to move it
I didn't notice the dullness of the display, but perhaps you could play with the scale option for the VR HUD?
is this tested with foveated rendering?
I don't believe I did any foveated rendering tests on this particular video, but I have others where I looked deeper into that subject.
I play one time out of 10 with the VR headset, so it bothers me every time to juggle graphics for TV and others for VR, it's a shame.
Yes, that can be a struggle to move between the various display options. I think there are various tools you can use to load in Presets, but I haven't tested them yet.
this was extremely helpful. i’m running on a 1080 card and was doubtful VR/AMS2 would work great. on high settings it’s acceptable but your settings made it very enjoyable. thanks so much!!
Still rocking a 1080? Wow, that is so cool, well done. Glad the settings were helpful to you :)
Hey! Quick question. Why is my performance headroom at 90 but only get 11 fps? I would really appreciate if you answered this question. Thank you in advance.
That's a complex and long question, so you would be better popping over to the discord channel that supports these videos and asking again there - discord.gg/xryPj356 Post in the VR Tech help section and either myself or one of the other members will attempt to help you. Hope to see you there.
@ I totally will pop in. Thank you
Brilliant video thanks. Good humour too 😊
Hey, glad you liked the video and enjoyed the humour. Thank you for taking the time to comment :)
@OlderGamersPerspective no worries, I followed your video and now have the perfect overlays. Such a brilliant tutorial. Top man
I’ve tried these settings and have the same kind of hardware, but I noticed that increase the resolution in Oculus for the maximum it’s not the best option. I changed for the recommendation (somewhere around 3 clicks down), and changed the ingame graphics for bigger detail, with MSAAx4 and even FSAA, resulting in a much better performance! Do you want me to share this settings?
Yes please. Be great to see your settings. I've always kept the slider far over to the right to reduce barrel distortion. You dont see this at your preferred setting? Also, do you find FSAA visually better?
Quest 3 user, happy with my PC settings for all the games I play (iRacing, AMS2, and LMU) Just bought LMU a few hours ago. Didn’t take long to figure it out as far as most settings so I’m happy about that. However, for some reason, since the latest Meta Horizon OS update, my Q3 is stupid buggy. Drops mid race, cable shows plugged in and charging but computer is not found, have to restart headset several times at times to get it to link to my PC. Ruined some folks races today cause it inexplicably disconnected mid race and went to the immersive screen. Buggiest app ever. Headset is brand new as I wore my last one out. I am gonna play with your settings here and see what I get. Cheers for the video!
Hi, sorry to hear about your issues. Are you connected via a USB hub? That can be an issue. If not, check in Device Manager, in Windows, that Power Saving is turned off for All USB hubs. I've been using the Quest 3 fairly often, and for some longer races, and not seen this issue so far, but if you cannot solve the problem, jump over my Discord channel and post the same question in the VR tech help section of that channel. discord.gg/xryPj356
@ no USB hub, I’ll check device manager. I’ve often had issues where it’s reluctant to connect via the Link cable, but never disconnects until this latest update they’ve done. I’ve had three in the last 8 races or so. Plugged into the appropriate USB port of my computer and a cable that meets the specifications. I’ll pop over to your discord
@@guitartube5822 I also have the Quest 3 and since the update, it is impossible for me to connect in USB while it worked very well before, Meta said that there was a bug with the latest update on quest 2/3/3s which made some headsets unusable, they are working on a fix
Hi Thanks for the Video What settings could I run with an AMD 7800xt i7 8700k overclocked to 4.3ghz 32gb Ram
For the 7800xt I would start on Low settings, MSAA x2, and then gradually increase the various settings to see what your card can achieve. Let me know how you get on.
Hi, I have a question. VR works normally, but I have a triple screen and I have already set it to one image and it works, but when I start VR mode, it starts all my monitors. When I turn it off, you won't even let me turn it on. When I wear VR and turn on the three monitors, the image in the glasses is fine, but the screen on the monitor goes terribly crazy. I'm very close. Sorry for my english and thank you very much and good luck
Hi, I do not have triple screens so I have never seen this problem, but I know a few people on my Discord group do have triples, and also VR, so they might be able to help you. Pop over to - discord.gg/xryPj356 and ask the question again in the VR tech help section of that discord channel.
@OlderGamersPerspective thanks!
Is the LMU graphics comparable or better than AMS2?
That is a tough question, and it depends really on what your PC is capable of displaying. If you can get Ultra settings in LMU to work, then LMU beats AMS2, but if you can only get Medium, or a modified Medium settings, as I have show here, then I think its a draw, with AMS2 being about the same, although possibly LMU might be a bit better. It is a very subjective subject. Although, on balance, personally, I prefer the Force Feedback and in general, the vehicle handling of LMU. Hope this helps.
Great video, will you make a video with optimized seetings for ACC and the 4070 Super?
Absolutely, it's on my To-Do list and I will hopefully get to it soon in 2025.
When i say drop below that i mean below 45 fps
Hi, this looks like a longer conversation than is practical on youtube, so if you have time, please pop over to the discord channel that supports this channel and write about your problems in the VR tech help section of that channel. Either myself or one of the other members will attempt to help you out..
Will check it out at some point now Xmas day over here in New Zealand
I have a 3080 and older 8700k. I run it with forced motion smoothing and even then it can drop below that with 2x msaa. but it is much the same with ams2. Accorging to fpsvr it is still the gpu that is the bottleneck But biggest issue for me is ffb. On my simagic m10 it is very light around centre and then almost too heavy at extremes. I have good ff b in ams2 using a custom file. I dont run the racemanager simagic software at all. Turning smoothing setting up doesnt help I think i will have to try running with racemanager and trying settings I have had the game since lauch but not played it much due to ffb. Agree big improvement for vr. I use HP G2 Also not a fan of some of the tracks...Fuji I hate
most of us have that issue, i have a g pro.. i turned of sustained ffb and just turned up the ffb a lil as it was way to heavy on fast turns and didnt help the issues.. doesn't motion smoothing cause the fps to drop to half as soon as it doesn't hit its target, not sure why you would use it
I have sent you a discord invite in your other comment, so we can talk about this issue in a little more depth. Hope to see you there.
I force motion smoothing on so it is always at 45fps which I find ok. If I just have it set to kick in when fps falls below ,90 I get stutters etc in transition. I can't maintain 90 fps on most tracks without having most settings on low
@@juliantaylor1126 Did you try 72Hz?
if you want to use better graphics settings use the fiv multiplier - i play with 0.3 vertical and horizontal at 0.8, means the computer only has to render about 25% of the pixels and gives you proper helmet visor view. Still see all the road and hud items appear outside the boundary, all it really means is you dont see your legs or the roof liner. run my quest 3 at 90hz and max res, 4x msaa in lmu and cars opponents, circuit and textures all maxed out on a 3070
the fov multiplier in the Oculus Debug Tool? I have used that in the past, but I prefer the version you can implement in OpenXR Toolkit. But yeah, it is a great tip, and people will gain FPS using it. The reason I didn't use it here is because I wanted to show what the out-of-the-box experience is for LMU. When they do a final release of this sim, hopefully soon, I will do a deeper dive into the graphical settings and that for sure will include FOV multiplier.
My quest 3 settings were all messed up. After following this for my 3080 + 5800x3d I landed on basically the same settings but turned up the bit rate to 700/800 and turned on HDR. I found the bit rate increase helped with seeing more of the track texture. Otherwise at times, it would look like a slightly blurry blob in the middle of the track off in the distance. Thanks for the guide!
Yes, I have seen that blurry blob stuff myself, more when I use Open XR than when I connect via the Oculus option in iRacing. Unfortunately, the limitations of my own system means I cannot turn up the Encode bit rate beyond 450, otherwise I get an audio glitch that causes my system to stutter at random points in the track. HDR I have never turned on as it's said to be an FPS killer, but it is something I intend to test in 2025. Glad you found the guide useful for the other stuff, and if you want to chat more about VR stuff, or sim racing in general, pop over the discord channel that supports these videos - discord.gg/4Y5gPQZk
If you haven't already, when setting up a race weekend, try Advanced Settings>Advanced> turn opponent aggression to "Low", you may enjoy racing the AI more
Thank you for the tip, I was worried that if I turned this down too low it would cause the Ai to be uncompetitive, but it's certainly something I will try in the future.
Why using virtual mirror
That's a good point, I'll have to turn that off and see if it gives me any more performance headroom. Has to be said though, I did get used to using it, although I realise in the video it's not very visible, in VR it does actually show very nicely
@OlderGamersPerspective also cut vertical fov
@@flexiefect in the oculus debug tool?
@@OlderGamersPerspective yes or OTT
@@flexiefect Oculus Tray Tool crashes on my system, so I have not used it in a while. I did use it a lot when I had the Rift and played a lot of Elite Dangerous.
Aggree, Was playin Assetto corsa in VR exclusively but now if I want to race it is LMU. very smooth even on my 3070ti
Great to hear that. LMU really is becoming one of the best VR titles out there, for features, and for graphics.
i actully have worse performance with AC1, less cpu overhead which also spikes and some times becomes cp u bound.. this is in part the mod cars and tracks that lfm uses but its mostly due to the age of the game and how it uses modern cpus.. in lmu i have 40 % cpu overhead with a 5700x3d, should probably turn up shadows lol
I bought a quest 3s and I rarely use it. There are just too many negatives for me, not least of which is the drop in quality and that anything not directly ahead is out of focus.
This could be an issue with how you have the headset centred over your eyes, or possibly you might need inserts. For me, sure, the quality of VR is nothing like a good monitor will show you, but I just love the immersion that VR offers. Sims, on track, or in the air, or in space, make a lot more sense to me in VR. In fact Elite Dangerous (a game I have played over the decades on many different computers) was not much fun at all until I got a Oculus Rift (and of course updated my graphics card), and then it was like.... Wow. How huge are those space stations. Racing was a similar story to me. I just couldn't get used to using a button to look left or right, but as soon as I raced in a VR headset (again the rift), it all started to make sense. But I can understand your point of view. The amount of sodding around you need to do with VR can be frustrating, especially when you have it working fine, and someone like iRacing changes stuff, and suddenly you need to start again with bench marks to sort out an optimal setting. For me, it will probably always be VR, but I have been using VR now for so long (coming up on what.... ten years next year?) that I think I am a lost cause when it comes to going back to a monitor.
Couldnt agree more. Started with VR only 6 months ago or so, but yeah there's no going back. Couldnt get EA WRC working in VR so I tried it on the monitor but it just didnt feel right anymore.
@@rolanddo4989 yes, VR is like a gateway drug towards an addiction to constantly finding the right settings, but.... VR is so cool, you still want to do it :)
