I never heard about limiting your framerate +1 monitor refresh rate. You always want to be in range of FreeSync (GSync) of your monitor. People were testing, and came to the conclusion that the best way (and most consistent) is to limit refresh rate -1. Example: If your monitor refresh rate is 144Hz, then set the limit to 143 FPS. You can try to set the FPS limit as your monitor refresh rate, and it will probably work, but in some cases, or rather some combinations of games/GPUs/drivers/monitors, it disables FreeSync (for some frames/seconds), game stutters, or some other funny things happen. Iracing Settings: SSR. You want this to be as high as possible, because otherwise you don't see puddles in the rain (at the moment of writing, 08.2024). If you don't see puddles, you'll have bad moments, or even spinning out. Also, if you have to drive through puddles, if you see them, you can prepare, a little lift just before you drive through. (If you don't race in the rain, then SSR Off is the most logical thing.) Thank you for making this video. A lot of people are searching for this, and because it changes from time to time, it's good to have an up to date youtube link.
Thank you for your comment and kind words! It's greatly appreciated. Regarding what you said about limiting your frame rate: +1, -1 or the same value as your monitor hz. We actually experienced micro stuttering when limiting the fps to -1 of the refresh rate (hz), a few people reported this as well, but not everyone. With all that in mind, we decided on either the same value as the hz or +1 as this caused no issues, and we found no major benefit during our tests and research to persuade us otherwise. Daniel has decided +1 on this occasion based on his own experience. Regarding SSR. Which is a very heavy tax on fps during our tests it must be noted, we found that it wasn't really required. We can't go into too much detail so, let's just say that, most Esports teams/drivers won't have SSR on. The settings of some of the best drivers in the world, who have kindly screenshotted their settings and shared, that we have had the chance to see, almost all of them have SSR off. With that said, if you or anyone else is having issues with puddles, turn SSR on but maybe just consider, when you are fine with where the puddles are forming at different weather build-ups based on each track, it's worth turning it off when you can as the fps tax is pretty high, especially for mid to lower end machines. I hope that clears a couple of things up. @@aerokinetix Maybe iRacing has some strange interaction, but overall, and theoretically (for all games), you always want to be in FreeSync range. Most monitors nowadays have an overlay that shows Hz. So people can check for themselves if everything is working correctly. Aliens don't use SSR in the rain? Wow. I need to see the puddles, so I stay away from them like it's the concrete barrier. :) Maybe skill issue on my part. See you on track...
Hey. I don't want to be "that guy" (hey, look, I'm right), and pester and making you irritated. But in a recent discussion in iRacing forums, unrelated to graphics settings, there was a comment about driving in the rain, particularly braking points references. 4K irating Formula driver: "I have no idea what car you drive but with formula cars if you try and go over the rubbered line with any amount of throttle and steering lock it's instant death." So, at least for some drivers, seeing puddles (and other things) is very important to even survive the race in the rain.
@@aerokinetixthe reason you see a bit less stutter when you choose 145fps is because vsync kicks in which definitely not want. So opting for fps within freesync/gsync range is the way to go. I personally hate stutter and frametime fluctuation. That’s why for me I limit my fps to 90 which I definitely always will get and play at 165hz. Try it and thank me later. It’s the smoothest experience. Less lag then 145 on 144 hz and more stable than up to 143 fps sometimes.
Hi, first of all thanks for the video and helping out the community. Second I have a triple setup 2K with a 4070ti and Ryzen7 5800 3D with 32GB. Yesterday in Okayama on the SimLab it dropped to 30-40 fps. I thought that with this configuration it will maintain a high FPS. Would you recommend any changes to get back a higher FPS??? Thanks
Thank you for the video, I've had my FPS limit set higher than my refresh rate and will make that change. I've noticed in some streams very recently that the drivers can see their own helmets in the rearview mirror in some cars. In my replays, I can see mine but not when I'm driving. Do you have any idea what setting would allow that? My card is a 4080 and I have most things maxed out already.
We've asked around and aren't sure to be honest.... That's a tough 1! If you do manage to find out, please let us know, it's 1 of those that'll be interesting to know the answer to haha, thanks!
@@aerokinetix Out of nowhere yesterday, mine showed up when I got in the CTS-V. I haven't tried any other cars yet, but I do have my mirrors maxed out if that helps.
Reflex as in SSR? Hope that's what you mean. SSR is very taxing on the FPS, even more so on mid to low end systems. It just isn't worth it in our opinion. With regards to seeing puddles for example that it "helps" with, in all honesty, sure, turn it on if you need to but once you know from practice where the puddles are, how intense they are, how they form etc, slide it off. You'll still see the puddles, they just won't shimmer as well as they would with SSR enabled.
63 is required for overlays such as Racelabs, iOverlay etc to work correctly. With regards to FPS, it's difficult to judge as we require overlays to do what we do, so we've always had it set to 63 and will only adjust settings around this to ensure our overlays are good to go. Could it potentially increase FPS performance if lowered? Most likely, but we can't 100% confirm as it's a must have for us.

Exactly what I was looking for!
Very helpful! Thank you!
Great video, thanks! For me, Dynamic objects and SSR do most of the trick.
Finally something that summarize everything, thanks!
I love you

What about the 'Max Cars' setting? how much will it affect the performance?
