I’m so old to iRacing (circa 2008-2010) that coming back to it a decade later has been like learning a new game all over again…licenses, car and track business models are the same, but tons of new features and menu formats. Thanks for the video DC!!
@@fabianmhd978 It can be a bit off sometimes in multiclass races, when you're not in the fastest class. It depends whether you get lapped again after your final stop, if you do then you might find it overfueled you by a lap or so.

I did it Dave, i set aside ACC and went at it hard, Just got my D license in Oval track, did some fun Legends and Charlotte and stuff. A lot of variety. Great video!
Having been on iracing for about a month and gone about finding out this kind of stuff out in bits, I can honestly say that this video is absolutely priceless and a must watch to newcomers. I wish it had all been in one place when I signed up just a few weeks ago. Great job explaining it so simply, too!
I just signed up 2 days ago. I feel like this video was for me specifically! I have been watching Dave for a few months so the timing is perfect and a bit strange. Lol
I would also add, once you have your correct FOV set, If you don't like the way it looks, you can still set your seating position with the advanced replay camera (CTRL+F12) and save it per car, so iRacing will auto load it whenever you enter the car.
That first tip... wow. I never changed by brakes when I started with my Fanatec pedals, been set at default the whole time, now down to 0 and I need to basically learn how to brake again.
I'm not new to iRacing but I didn't know about the Force Factor for the brakes. Makes a huge difference with my Fanatec Clubsport Loadcell. Thanks Dave.
Thank you for this!!! I have been using iRacing for a few months and missed that brake force setting, I have a set of Heusinkveld sprints and was having such a hard time in the big braking zones in the Cup car. So much better now! Great work in the super cup this last Saturday!
I've been iRacing for 6 years now. Not once did I bother to mess with the brake force factor. I figured I was bad at braking. Turned it down to zero (as I use load cells) and took the Ferrari GTE for a spin a minute ago. More control instantly. What a difference it makes. If I had any hair left, today surely would've been the day I pulled it out. Thanks a bunch, Dave!

to be fair - you can use your mouse to untick the boxes in the pit lane and they will stop doing the stuff - you arent stuck. i usually untick them all when im in the grid. Even that has been a pain in the ass, so thank you for showing us how to change it via default.
I knew of some of these thing but a couple I didn't, like repositioning elements over triples and setting up iRacing to not default to filling up and changing tyres at pit stops. All simply explained without all the faff, to the point (just like the Fanatec Podium Module as well)! Loved it. Thanks!
It would be really great if you do do a video on buying a steering wheel and pedals? Should you buy brand new or second hand if you are just starting out? How much to spend to get a half decent setup that will last you the first couple of years in iRacing as you improve. Where to buy second hand? What to look out for when buying second hand etc... I know there would be a lot of work involved in creating such a video, yet I really trust you, and I know any advice you give would be full of minerals. 😁👍 You're a top man Mac.
Thanks for doing this vid, I just started IRacing last night and was overloaded with everything on there. Being new to IRacing I had no idea what I am doing. Still don't, but this is a good help to get started. I have invested a lot into this so no turning back... thanks again Dave. Love your content
Really Really easy, just gotta go through all the documents on your computer and change details at a kernel level. If you mess it up or want to change it back at some point, good luck!
Dave's tips seriously work. At the risk of sounding like a paid shill, I went from my 1st ever race to becoming eligible for Class C in three weeks. And I kinda' wasted my 1st week in D because the MX5 wasn't on a track I owned. The other tip I would offer is once you get past rookies, search around for setups. Finding a good one is a complete game changer in the open setup series races.
Glad I watched this. Figured I knew all this already, and I did, EXCEPT the brakes force factor. Don't know how I missed it, but I never changed it when I installed the load cell upgrade. Brakes feel MUCH better now. Thanks!
I've absolutely had enough of dive bombers in GT Sport, even in the higher ranks, and have bitten the bullet and bought a PC. Will be with me in 3 weeks. Thanks for the video, really helpful to get started. From what I've heard, there's still a bit of dodgy behaviour in the Rookies but it gets better after that.
Outstanding tips DC! I plan on joining iRacing once my PC is built and this vid will help me out tremendously. If you think of any other tips to help a rookie iRacer please share. Take care & stay safe. Cheers
I started just over three weeks ago and I already have a road A licence. However my attitude towards racing is different to 99% of other racers, but it helps dictate this tip that I will give you, and that is, just be out there for the enjoyment of racing WITH other people, not AGAINST other people. I say this because I know that I can’t win every race that I enter and there’s no point getting all angry, impatient or hyped up, so I make the decision to have a good time with my fellow competitors and bring home a car with zero damage. You’ll be surprised how quickly you gain safety points and earn your higher licenses with this approach. I will usually skip qualifying and start from the back, take it easy in the first few corners while everyone crashes, then just do my best. Clean, close racing is incredibly rewarding, even when you’re in a battle for 10th position! Although, I will say that if I’m confident that I can genuinely fight for a win then I’ll do the qualifying etc and give it a whirl. I had a great race yesterday in the Ferrari GT3 Challenge where I qualified 10th, and had an awesome fight with a train of five cars, passed two of them, and eventually got a podium due to other drivers running wide or crashing out.
Added to favorites for future reference. I really want to get into iRacing. I just got a wheel stand but I'm kinda skiddish about trying it right now with my current wheel and pedal setup. I have a cheap $100 PXN wheel and pedals but I'm saving up for a Logitech G29.
Great tips iRacing has a nice learning curve to overcome. I’m just a noob that started back in 2015 and I learned more than one trick with this video! Thanks!

Seeing that you installed Crew Chief another pit option is to add the Macro's to remove the Fuel and Tyre's on the fly. If you have the mic so you can chat in race you can just call Chief and when you hear the tone "Pitstop Clear Tyres" or "Pitstop Clear Fuel" No more trying to grab the keyboard and mouse or having to set it if you did it in the ini file and forgot to switch it off

Trying to learn patience and clean racing and a lot of your videos have really helped. Hoping to make the turn to iRacing within the next year once I upgrade my pc and my racing.
I’m gonna be honest the whole FOV thing I never even bothered messing with just due to experiences in other games like FPS games or minecraft where the game just feels off after adjusting the FOV unless you are doing cinematic screenshots. But I always just blamed my lack of experience and feel for the car as to why I was just meh at driving in sims while not even thinking about the view being as if I’m not sitting with a monitor behind a servo base. But the face it auto calculates it is amazing for helping new and old players alike get the perfect view for their setup.
OMG! Thank you for the info on the moving your items to your other monitors. I had always thought it was weird that I couldn't move my stuff further out. :)
This is something I was questioning. I play ACC but always enjoyed your videos. But for me, I like to sit the view a little further back, like it was when you zoomed out. This is mainly because I like to have some view of beside from a single monitor. But on ACC you get the option to "look with wheel", view turns as you turn the wheel, which is very useful for tight corners. If I had triples, I would have it as you do.
The brake force factor is a really good one, for months I hated doing road racing because I locked brakes a lot because I couldn't get consistent with my t3pa pedal brake and then when put the brake mod on I found the car not slowing down fast enough and was wondering why because I had no idea about the force factor. especially when you are new to sim racing or haven't really played a racing sim or game with pedals before you have no idea what settings to look for , because I thought just calibrating it all in the software was all I had to do, wasn't until was watching a video about Iracing setting that I stumbled across what that setting does and why you need to change it. If I had known about the settings I wouldn't of got frustrated with the road racing which made me stick with oval racing only for months.

Are you really sitting 326mm from the screen when driving?
Haha, no. It changed the number when I adjusted the FOV with the brackets keys. I'm around 620mm
I was going to say I sit 600 away and that feels very close

Probably the most useful video out there :) thank you Dave
Dave this is an outstanding video. Thank you.
New to your channel. How refreshing. Clear, concise information! Also, someone who recognises most of us haven't got unlimited money and space, and or understanding partners!😄(video on monitor size) keep it up.
Thank you Chris 😁
Great help, thanks. How about one on what is used in the button box and wheel buttons? I haven't gotten that far.
Wasn't aware of the auto fuel in Crew Chief, thank you 👍
At last Dave, this is the video I’ve been waiting for. So much info to use and apply. A big shout out and a load of thanks 🙏
Great Video as always, thanks for that, Dave. Has anyone else had issues locating the app.ini file in the iRacing directory? Have they moved/disabled this?

Thank god I’ve seen this video, was a little disappointed with my HE sprints until I saw the brake adjustment I had it set at 1.8 from my old g29

A lot of information I would have loved to have when I started iRacing.
Nevertheless, I still learned something today: How to spread the UI elements over my triple screen setup.
Thanks a lot!
Everyday is a school day. Please I could help 😁
