There’s quite a few nods to Matrix in this movie. The shoe scene is the most blatant, Barbie escaping through office cubicles and the agents of Mattel. They only partly suggests it, but the CEO is clearly a Ken too, showing how “the world of the real” is just another level of the simulation.
You’re right and I can’t quite remember, but I think they showed two different exteriors of Mattel. One had big red statues in front of it and the other looked more like a regular office building. I think one was supposed to be the actual building exterior and one was still kind of a façade within the matrix.
Without seeing it again, I can’t 100% confirm BUT one of the books Ken checked out of the library was blue with a very bold font. The colour and font type are very similar to that of British chocolate bar “Yorkie” which had a marketing campaign in the 00’s where the chocolate was marketed towards men by having the tagline “It’s not for girls”. As a Brit in North America, I may be of a small few who connected these dots, but I feel like it’s the level of detail that this movie would’ve gone into. Fantastic cinema!!
As kids, back in the mid 70s, my sister got the Barbie hair salon along with a Barbie for Christmas. Despite being a boy, I joined my sister playing with that salon, it was actually fun. Not sure, but I think it even had a sink that worked. And it was a chance for my sis and I to bond which makes the memory all the more precious. I’m actually glad they made this movie.
When we first see Gloria’s desk after eavesdropping, we can actually see the barbie that was in the flashbacks on the right side of the table. Barbie was right about it being the little girl’s doll but this shot forshadows that it was Gloria that brought Barbie to the real world.

Kinda fitting with the writer's strike happening right on the film's release. Also the Mattel and Warner Bros's office being nearby might be one of the reasons why Ken film was quickly developed shortly after Ken dominated Barbie Land.

Both Oppenheimer and Barbie are the perfect ideas of the duality of humanity.
