A MOON BROTHERS FILM produced by CUBECITY ENTERTAINMENT, INC. in cooperation with SOLID ROCK, edited by Mann Munoz
On August 4th, 2007 Larry performed in New York City in what turned out to be his last official solo concert. On both piano and guitar, Norman played music spanning his entire career, spoke intimately to the audience, and finished the performance with a remarkable medley of some of his most poignant songs. The multi-camera shoot presented on this DVD is a visual document of a very special occasion, Larry's final concert. This concert was just just a little over 6 months before Larry breathed his last and passed on to be with Jesus.

By a series of unexplainable events in the summer of 1972 I stumbled one afternoon into Calvary Baptist Church on 8th Ave in NYC (a girl on the street gave me a flyer and invited me in) and for two hours I was mesmerized by this guy. I had heard of Jesus but Larry convinced me to follow him wholeheartedly. It was a special moment in the video when he refers being there 35 years ago (1972-2007). I was there and it changed my life. Thanks so much for posting this!

When I was 16 I used to sing Larry's songs in a Sydney Coffee Shop. Then in 1975-6 in Perth, Western Australia in a folk group. An just recently at the age of 64 I sang "Sweet Sweet Song of Salvation" at the end of a sermon. Timeless anthems for a generation seeking truth. Thanks Larry.

Sad to see Larry as a shell of his younger self, but wonderfully inspirational to hear him honoring God with all the remaining breath in his lungs. Please remember him not for his shortcomings, but as a sinner loved by God and saved by His grace ... just like you and me. And may we all finish the race singing His praises to the end.

In a confusing youth, growing up in an extreme Church that knew more about what it was against then what it was for, Larry came along and spoke my language. I probably would have left my faith behind if not for people like Larry. I was pleased to get to know him personally later in his life. I now am an ordained Anglican priest who spends most of his time working with the homeless and addicted.

he was one of the few "Christian" artists who I could and did listen to in the years that "Christians" alienated me and I walked off the God path serving my flesh nature and selfishness. God brought me back and when Larry went to heaven, I wrote Randy Stonehill to share some of what Larry meant to me, and Randy actually wrote back acknowledging Larry's influence on so many

People who watch this recording and "Don't get how this guy made it in Christian music" with him forgetting words and with a broken voice.
You have to realize that this concert was recorded after Larry had many heart attacks and even during this concert Larry was extremely sick and only a few short months from his death in February of 2008. -- In all purposes he was a dying man even at this concert. But Larry was determined to share 'JESUS' LOVE' until the very end.

I saw Larry in 1976 or 1977, in Elgin, Illinois, and witnessed his raw talent. He was about 30 yrs old and me 25, and he was on top of his sharpness, and my ear in perfect tune for criticism, but his show was perfect. He was in a White Tuxedo and plated the entire “In Another Land” album without flaw. He loved Jesus and knew he was a faulted character, but he continued with the Word of God in his music and his ministry. He was a great person, but made a few mistakes just like all of us, and I am the least of all to Not over look his mistakes, but could he over look mine. I know he did, and his message was the important thing, NOT his Sins. I Love and miss you Larry, more than you could know, and I’m sure that those that haven’t forgiven you are very few if any, so thank you and all those that made your mission possible. A simple Thank You Jesus for putting Larry Norman in my life, and I hope my old girlfriend feels the same!

His story about mowing the lawn reminded me of something that happened to me
    that I had forgotten about.
I volunteered to help the Church with the Vacation Bible school for the Children.
It lasted a week and I went right to the Church each day after leaving work
and then got home late at night.
I had no time to cut the grass and it was getting out of hand.
I let it go and did the Lord's work.
On the last night when I got home the yard had been cut.
It had been cut ' by mistake ''
by a lawn mowing service who went to the ' wrong ' address.
They did not charge me for it.
Good thing - cause I did not have much money.
....seek first, the Kingdom of God

Considering his poor health and using a borrowed guitar unlike what he was used to
I think he did very well. Unless you are a guitar player you may not understand how
    difficult that can be.
Since he had serious heart problems I suspect he was taking some high powered meds
and that probably affected his memory. So I forgive him if he forgot some words.
Considering how many words there are in his songs, I don't think I could remember them
    on my best day !
At least he has something worth hearing.
So many of the songs today, secular or spiritual, take a simple phrase and repeat it
    for 3 minutes.

Boy I miss the 70s Americans whether the Jesus movement or the political folk music movement, wore their heart on their sleeves protesting injustice and standing for good things in music and/protest. Alot of good was accomplished thru the vision many seemed to have at the time eg. The falling of the Berlin Wall was nothing short of a miracle. I was just a school kid so I appreciate what happened even more.

    • @NormanLarry
      @NormanLarry  9 років тому +4

Jerry Dodson It was more a question of which song were you referring to. As I have no knowledge of any song where he even comes close to admitting adultery. If you referring to his song "Baby Out Of Wedlock", you have to realize that this song was written before 1970 and was released on his 1970 Street Level album. Many years before the "Lie" about him fathering a child came about in the 90's. You also have to realize that Larry often used the first line in his songs as titles. The first line of Baby out of Wedlock is "I had a baby out of wedlock" - That song also has two titles. Baby out of Wedlock was the original title but also became know as "When You Sent Your Son".
Another note is Larry also sings in the second line, "I took a lot of LSD, I smoked a lot of marja-weenie" - Now it is a know fact that Larry never took drugs at all. This is backed up by members of the group "People!" and many others. - In fact one of the members of People!, unsure which one, was smoking a joint and asked Larry if he wanted some. Larry responded that he didn't and after more persuasion by this member, Larry did indeed take a draw and was sick for hours afterwards so never touched the stuff or any other drugs thereafter.
You have to realize that some of Larry's songs had a so-called "Shock" title because he was aiming his music to the unsaved, the homeless, the drunk, the beggar on the street. He was not aiming his music at the 'Saved' and that's why all his music never made it into church, other than Sweet Song of Salvation.

    • @toobfunnybunny
      @toobfunnybunny 9 років тому +3

Greg Murray I know that was a fictional song, but as to his adultery, even if Daniel wasn't his son, just watch the documentary "Fallen Angel" and the interviews with Sarah Stonehill and Pam Norman.
I have no desire to quibble about this; I have always loved Larry, despite his many flaws. When the entire artist roster from Solid Rock (including Daniel Amos, Tom Howard and Randy Stonehill) have some unpleasant narratives to relate concerning his treatment of them (the DA album "Horrendous Disc" comes instantly to mind), I can't believe that they are all ganging up on Larry. His desire to control everyone and everything around him has too many testimonies to be other than the truth. (And I find it interesting that you "quoted" the word "lie" above; that makes it sound like the lie was in fact the truth, since putting a word in quotes usually means you think just the opposite.)
Anyway, I do appreciate you uploading this terrific concert. It was thoroughly enjoyable and yet sad to see Larry's health so ravaged.

    • @NormanLarry
      @NormanLarry  9 років тому +4

Jerry Dodson There are always two sides to a story. I by no means am trying to advocate that Larry was a saint, but when you hear the other side of the story you will (and should be) amazed at how badly these guys (and by these guys I mean David Di Sabatino, Randy Stonehill and many others) had it out for Larry. David even confesses in the 'Real Story' how he was out to get Larry, no matter what. Check this site out by Allen Flemming that reveals just how vicious these folk were towards Larry and his family. And by the way, I have watched "Fallen Angel" so I had an opened mind on the whole matter and not just taking it from Larry's party's perspective. There is a section in Fallen Angel where Randy is relating a story about his friendship with Larry and in the interview he acts so distraught and full of agony, yet he never once sheds a tear (which I know anyone would if relaying the story) would. I found after looking at it from both sides and hearing all (or most) of the two sides accusations, that I intend to believe Allen's portrayal of events more.

i did find Sweet Sweet Song of Salvation in our pentecostal church hymnal growing up in the southeast, we had lived in LA from '69 - '71 and i pretty much wore out the bootleg copy of "Upon This Rock" someone had given my father on 8 track tape, our parents took over management of the Fire Escape coffee house where a lot of the bands playing at Calvary Chapel would also play, later back east our father got the "Only Visiting This Planet" album ( my girlfriends mother broke it in 1984 when i had loaned it to her, probably because of "Why Should the Devil have all the Good Music") when it was released and i was hooked forever after that, i don't remember seeing Larry at that time in LA, but he came through Charlotte NC after "Stranger in a Strange Land" and my Father and i went, i think i annoyed everyone around us and probably Larry also because the audience was probably barely 100 people and i sang along with every song i knew, being 15 i really didn't mind if i annoyed anyone, during the intermission my Father went to speak with Larry about the times in LA and i was too awestruck/starstruck to think of anything smart to say... He was a huge influence on me and i have always tried to share his music and message to everyone i have had any influence on, i will miss him and enjoy his music for as long as i live, thank you for sharing

I started listening to Larry Norman around '72 when he was recorded at Explo 72 in Texas (Hear "Sweet, Sweet Song of Salvation" at minute 15:00 at ua-cam.com/video/4H5dPSmV9_o/v-deo.html). Saw him only once in concert in Harrisonburg, VA (James Madison Univ) in the early '80s. Truly, a unique child of God that Jesus used to reach many, including the lost hippies of the '60s and '70s, looking for love in all the wrong places. I sang his song "The Outlaw" at my Baptist church in Norfolk in the early '90s...they loved his powerful message. He's singing with the angels now, and surely showing them a few rock licks on guitar!

I enjoyed the concert and talking until he got into the Russian ordeal. I felt the concert seemed to go off the tracks at that point. I listened to him in the early 70s, and just recently decided to search for UA-cam videos cause I never saw him in concert. It was interesting to see/hear the person behind the LPs. His comments before the Russian ordeal were very useful.

It's a shame he didn't make any new songs. It's a shame that after 25 years he was still playing the same songs. . It is unfortunate that he became very difficult for the people he worked with. Such a beautiful voice.

Many of his songs were timeless but his catalogue was very big and he did sing new songs often. Considering his health in the last 10 years, it was amazing that he was even singing at all!

He wrote his first song at the age of 9, and 500 (yes, 500!) songs by the time he was 16! He wrote more songs than most people even had ideas. Great songs! Several of which we heard here. Don't care he didn't make "new songs" -- so many of the "old songs" still thrill & excite me to this day! Let's forgive him his shortcomings, please. It's easy to become very difficult when life has been very difficult. God still loves him and Larry wanted everyone to know He loves you and I too, in spite of everything.

Greg Murray: Thank you for sharing your music collection fo Larry Norman, but please stop using any of the Satanic symbols (like the half face showing only one eye, which is used by Freemasons and is Luciferian). I never knew about Larry till I found one of you sites, and then learned that the first Christian song my beloeved daughter-in-law ever hear was Larry Norman's "I Wish We'd All Been Ready," and God used that song to bring her to saving faith. What a blessing Larry was and is to so many. Oh, the churches didn't like his music. Too much TRUTH to handle for some of them, but I'm grateful he was here and wish we had men who would speak out today the way Larry did, even when "Christian" radio stations wouldn't play his music. Many didn't want to hear that they weren't doing what Jesus told them to do. God bless you always. I hope I see you in heaven. See you there or in the air. June 14, 2018

In the video I watched just before this about Larry Norman,
    Randy Stonehill was wondering
how could someone who led me to Christ have later treated me light he did.
And there is the discussion about adultery.
The scriptures tell us that God uses the weak and even the foolish, not the mighty and wise, to do His work. It is so He gets the credit, not us who are his instruments.
So, no surprise if there is not complete perfection in His servants this side of heaven.
David was 'a man after God's own heart'.
God used him as a song writer and singer -
He wrote most of the 150 songs in Psalms in our Bibles.
Yet there was David and Bathsheba.
David repented and wrote a song about it.
The man who led me to Christ later did ungodly things that hurt me.
I forgave him and thanked him for the good he did.
He is dead now and I have serenity.

If you tune to a 'Christian' radio station today, odds are you will hear a style that could
fairly be called 'rock style' -
complete with drums and electric guitar.
A style called 'Southern Gospel' might be considered somewhat of an exception.
Although much of it too has moved toward a more 'rock' style.
It seems 'normal', especially to those who did not grow up during the early days of
    Larry Norman.
As one who did grow up in that time period, let me take you back.
I suspect only someone who lived it could truly come close to understanding it,
but maybe some light can be shed to a younger audience.
In the 60s many of the churches were dead, false and did not teach the life, redeeming death, resurrection and future return of Christ. Check out a song by Noel Paul Stookey called 'Hymn'.
There were churches that did believe the scriptures and taught the truth but so many of them were becoming ritualistic and impure and growing cold or dying.
The music was mostly very old hymns - great songs, great message but not being sung
from the heart. A new style of music was being made popular, especially to the youth.
The Beatles were a good example.
But the Church considered it evil and allowed no part of it in their services.
No drums, no electric guitars, no long hair or beards.
It was only the lady who played the piano and possibly the lady who played the organ.
Many churches were small and too poor to have an organ.
Besides, many viewed the organ with suspicion - but that's another story.
One song of satire written about this later was called
'If Your Hair's too Long There's Sin in Your Heart'.
So when 'Christian Rock' came along, most churches that were teaching the truth
(not the same as living the truth) did not accept those two words together.
Those my age who were influence by and liked the new sound, mostly kept our
thoughts and our listening habits at home to ourselves if we wanted to remain in good standing with the church leaders.
Fifty years later, most churches have 'Praise Bands' complete with drums and electric guitar. Song leaders dress casual (back in the day it was black pants, white shirt and tie
and suit coat, no hair over the ear and no beards).
Long hair and or beards are nothing unusual now.
Also, back in the day, there was no movement, except for the lips.
    And certainly no dance movements.
So is all this change good or bad?
    It can be either.
Some young people became followers of Christ because of it.
The early movement was alive while so much of the church was dead
The bad side can be a gathering that is just a concert and not worship or witness
and does not have true holiness.
It can be just a mix of the church and the world.
I could write a book but maybe this short version will provide some insight and be
    of help to someone.

I identify with you wholeheartedly. In the 60s in high school I was so attracted to the Beatles, Stones, Animals, Who, Hendrix, Deep Purple, etc and so turned off to church, the music, the lack of love, and so much more, that I went into the life of drugs, sex, booze, philosophy, and part of the philosophy was neo Marxism in the guise of Yippies, and other radicals raising hell because being young it appealed to my rebellion. When I heard those like Larry, Randy Stonehill, Rez (Resurrection) Band, Noel Paul Stookey, Daniel Amos, Andrae Crouch, Petra, Malcolm and Alwyn, and even Cliff Richard doing a concert duo with Larry, I loved it and Larry played a huge role in my return to God

That is good teaching about doing what God wants you to do.
When I was a prodigal son
there were people who were very forward about pushing me to follow Christ.
I think they did more harm than they did good.
There were other people who just did a simple act of kindness and I think it helped a lot.
I did come back home to God eventually.
I like what Mary said at the wedding
' whatever He says to you, do it. '
So if He says quote John 3:16 to someone, do it.
If He says, don't quote, just smile....do it.
Jesus said, I will build My Church
and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
So let Him build His Church using us as His servants.
It can be really hard to hold back from doing something
when it seems to us it is a good thing to do at the time.
And as Larry said, we may not see immediate results,
    that does not mean failure.
Success is doing what the Master says do.

With exposure to this sort of thing, and hearing testimony about how he was found difficult to live with in his personal life, he most certainly had a mental illness at a time when little was known about diagnoses and treatment of this sort of thing. At the time in some cases people manifesting personality disordees would be subject to cruel expermental abuses or given treatment that would exacerbate the condition. Ladies often were put in institutions when there only problem was pist partum depression. In Larry's case the cause could be hormonal, vitamin deficiency, manifestation of suppressed childhood trauma causing developmental delay. The symptoms look like Aspergers or highly functioning autism(difficulty in reading the emotions of others). On vitamin deficiecy - in 🇨🇦 vitamin D supplements are highly promoted by healthcare especially during winter months as lack of it can cause severe depression, and it is made naturally in the body by exposure to sunlight whichcan be in short supply in the winter months.
Nonetheless his heart was poignantly expressed through his music.

I'm finding out that this Larry Norman guy was like the first guy to make Christian Rock Music. Am I wrong? And then there is that film that says that Norman was a devil in disguise, a nutcase, a loose cannon. Maybe I didn't miss much. I've already been given the blues by another blonde singer, one Gregg Allman. Maybe it's the long blonde hair that leads to devilish behavior. No I'm not serious about the blonde hair. Anyway, sin is sin.
