The proper term for his style is "humorist". He was a humorist. He talked about real non-fiction events and philosophies, but just made it all funny. A comedian usually just makes everything or most things up.

He is a wordsmith on the same level as Bob Dylan. He, too, deserves a Nobel Prize for Literature. The Bard of New York...RIP.

This guy is my hero. You can tell he's a bit nervous here but still great as always. Interesting to hear his first version of "Modern Man" here.

True. He was going so fast. I couldn't keep up.

Yeah, it's cool to see his "Modern Man" bit evolve from here to his special...but do you know what that means? It means he was doing new and UNTESTED MATERIAL (Which seems obvious due the the couple of flubs and reading from his notes) in front of the White House press club...that's some brass balls, man...dude didn't give a fuck...he'd tell it as he saw it, not an ounce of BS in him...

George Carlin really displays his understanding of the English language in this video. It’s so fun to watch him show off the verbal gymnastics that we as Americans use to deceive, generalize or provoke one another. A display of true intelligence. Personally I don’t think anyone else, not even a professor in this confusing and bizarre mutt of a language could address these issues with such charisma and sincerity. Shit I suck at speaking and understand this language and I’m a native speaker from the US! I don’t know I’m just kind of going off in this comment section for no reason other than the fact that I just want to express my appreciation for this iconic comedian. I also don’t know how to end off this long winded appreciation post other than, if you read all this bullshit, thank you for spending a minute or two (or five) reading my comment. Sorry for my lack of proper punctuation and grammar. Most importantly, if you haven’t already, take a bit more of you free time watching more of George Carlin the late great comedian that really embodies what being human is all about, regardless on your views on politics, religion, race, intelligence, class or maturity. He tells you what he sees how he sees it. That seems to be a rarity in civilization, even going back to the Roman Empire. I’m now just spiraling again so I’ll shut up but feel free to comment on this and we can start a discussion appreciating this human anomaly, in the sense of being able to go through hardships and comeback from them twice as strong and teach his audience how foolish language is and to become more accepting of each other to work against the real evils of society. Again sorry for the small essay but thank you for reading. Hope you have a great day, morning, afternoon, evening or night.

Carlin had a descriptive genius about him that encouraged people to laugh at themselves. There is no sector that was safe. I loved him during my growing years and as an adult in my Golden Years. What a legacy he left!

He is definitely at the top,I am just sadden to bot see anyone placing Norm Macdonald on his plane. Hell I see comments equating Dave Chappelle with George, but not a mention of Norm! I find it absurd,I'd say no one is in his league though,he was and will always be,the G.O.A.T.

If anyone has read anything about George or watched an interview with him, he has mentioned many times that his mother was his greatest influence of appreciating the effective use of the English language, despite the two having had a strained relationship.
His way of speaking was both versatile, and deeply intelligent, as he was a philosophical thinker.

We can argue until the cows come home that George is the greatest, funniest comedian, but there is NO argument, no doubt, that Mr Carlin was, is and will always be the greatest mad genius of comedy in the history. Bless his soul, rip, you were the greatest.
