I made this last night and all I can say is WOW! I added Lavender mica and Lavender essential oil instead of fragrance. I was questioning whether I’d repeat with Aloe Vera and the colloidal oats again. When I woke up this morning, I was surprised how soft and smooth my skin felt. This will be my go-to recipe forever and I won’t be changing a thing. Thank you!!
Wow! I made this last night and while still warm, it felt o.k. but an hour after it cooled, it was "Tacky & Sticky". I was stunned by the 3oz. Of Steric acid used. And as it turns out, that was the culprit.
Edit: I had gotten impatient and ordered some RANCID SHEA BUTTER off Amazon 😔 It was Terrible 😡 Made this again tonight and added approx. 8 more oz of water, 1 more ounce of "Good Shea butter" from WSP, Lavender frag. Oil, Vit. E, and Jojobo oil included. Turned out FAB! 💙
I have made this several times and changed it up a bit to make it more of a lotion feel. I changed the water and Aloe juice to 38oz split. Reduced the stearic acid, E wax to 2oz each. I changed the amount of my Phenonip to match the change. Following the IFRA standard for my fragrance. Added the proper amount of Arrow root for a nice silky feel in stead of a waxy feel. Wow wow wow it's like a whip/lotion feel. Exorbitant and stays on even after washing my hands several times throughout the day. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us all. I really enjoy watching all your videos. You have a great laugh it makes me smile every time. Your the best Ellen. ❤️💕
I’ve yet to jump from butters to lotions but wondered if arrowroot could be used! Nice to hear it can work in an emulsified lotion or cream. I have a handcream that has tapioca starch listed and love that it’s not greasy feeling
Hello Ellen, I finally made this lotion for my family and everybody loves it !! I made it without the colloidal oats because I didn't have it, but anyway is an amazing recipe to work with. I also use a Jasmine fragrance, but only 0.4 oz, not to be too strong. Thank you, thank you !! It feels sooo good and soft on the skin. Love it love it !❤❤.

Always love your channel and your recipes! I tried this one and used in the water portion a floral water I made using my own dried rose petals, lavender flowers and Chamomile from my garden. I made like a tea with the flowers and water, then also used half aloe Vera juice for the liquid portion of the recipe. You almost don’t need to put in a scent because the floral water has a mild floral scent all on its own. I also used Argan oil instead of hempseed oil and it turned out wonderfully! Thank you so much for sharing!❤️

Your lotion is very nice. I made it today, I just didn't have to put stearic acid, and for fragrance I put a small amount from a body cream. I didn't have aloe water yet, but that's okay. It turned out great. And almond oil. Next time I will I have all the ingredients. S, thanks for making a nice lotion for the first time.❤💯💯
I love this body butter cream I dialed back to 2.5 oz. of wax and added tapioca to cut the oily feel my first batch felt a little waxy I'm positive it's the wax I use. Thank you for your recipe it's Awesome.

Another winner! I made it using exactly the ingredients you did and I was a little worried it might be too firm, due to mostly butters and little liquid oil - especially with the cocoa butter. But it is amazing, so smooth and not a bit greasy. I used soft and silky e-wax, which is wonderful in this! Scented with sweet orange chili pepper - soooooooo good for a summertime fragrance. Thanks again, Ellen! 😊💞

Thank you Ellen. I'm very grateful to you for sharing this recipe. I made this today with small tweaks. It's turned out wonderful, luscious, non greasy, nourishing cream. I'm a hobbyist and make stuff for personal use and family/ friends.
Have you ever had it separate after adding in the optiphen? I make one like this an added it in just under 120 went to mix it and immediately the oil separated out. Not sure what happened there put it in the frig to firm it up a bit and it did come back together but the texture was a tad chunky, for the most part got it all worked out and piping helped it get smoother as well. That's the first batch that's ever done that to me.

Don’t forget to wash with dish soap and rinse well after to remove all residue. I use this in my slow cooker and instant pot and works like a charm every time!
@@EllenRuthSoap I’ve also been using it for years on my glass top stove to remove stains. It’s over 20 years old and still looks like new. I never let myself run out. It’s very cheap and you can get it at WalMart.

You saved me from wasting products... meaning I wandered how I was going to ship body butters in the summer? I'm going to wait until cooler weather's....I learned so much from this video! Thank you
Help. I’ve made this several times and it whipped up great. This time it separated as it cooled down. I got it to the soft peak stage and was about to fill jars when I saw little beads of oil pockets. They just got bigger as I continued to whip thinking it just needed a little stir. Only thing different it was hot today and about 86 degrees inside. I put it covered in the fridge and thought maybe you or your many friends might be able to save this batch. It smells great and feels awesome on my skin.
I have made this lotion before and love it! I have a ton of pump bottles left over from years ago that I'd like to use to make lotion this Christmas, however, I like to use Shea butter in my lotions. Do you have an emulsifying wax/oil percentage recommendation for a pumpable lotion using some solid oils? I know you have the 50/50 basic lotion recipe, but it's too thick when using the butters.
Thanks for sharing the recipe. I make a magnesium lotion to use on my feet at night. It’s so soothing and I can relax after a long day. I think I will try your butter and oil combo to see how it does, though I will make a smaller batch. I’ll update after it’s made and I try it out.

Firstly, you are by far one of the best video makers for recipes!!! So clear. So helpful. Thank you!! I have a box of flip top lotion bottles, I want to do an aloe vera lotion. . .I know this will be to thick for the flip top. Do you have any lotion recipe suggestions for flip tops? . . .also have you used aloe vera gel before? Or prefer juice?
I have not used aloe gel in lotions, but I know you can... Here is a very old video of mine with a lotion recipe that would work in a squeeze bottle: ua-cam.com/video/2DM2wverc7k/v-deo.html
I love this recipe! I did notice that it cracks a bit when I put my finger in it to use it, almost like its a little dry. Did I do something wrong? This is so awesome!
Hey Ellen, I have a question. I want a thick cream that can go into squeeze bottles. Would you say that this one or the cream pot is way to thick for a squeeze bottle? I've made the cream pot lotion, and it's awesome. So was looking for the squeeze bottle version of that.
Hi Ellen, love it, I want to scale this to small amount just to try it for me , but I have a doubt, do I take into consideration the Optiphen, F.O. &. colloidal oats to figure out my % or just up to stearic acid? Thank you again for your amazing tutorials.
I want to try to make an emulsified body butter 🧈 what if I don't add the oats? can I just omit the oats or do I have to replace it with something else? will the finished product be the same? also can I whip this recipe and if so when do I begin the whipping process?
I tried this recipe minus the aloe and it's an absolute delight! So thick❤. I was keen to try the colloidal oats in the mix. D'you think it's the oats that contributes to this butter's thickness? or the stearic acid? Thanks for sharing such a magic recipe🙏
Thank you for all the wonderful recipes and tips. I've had a lot of success watching your videos. There was a lotion recipe I really liked but can no longer find. It was simple, where I used 1/2 cup of any oils I liked, it made a quart jar amount and I used a pump I found on Amazon. Where can I find this video?
I love this lotion! If I were to make this recipe and wanted to be able to bottle it in a squeeze bottle, how would I adjust the amounts to make it thinner?
Stearic is a conditioning and thickening agent, it adds structure to the lotion. Humble Bee and Me has tons of great info on stearic acid and how to formulate lotions.
Hi Ellen, love this so much!! I have a question because I'm not 100% sure on difference, can this be used on the face? Or only on the body? Thank you so much 😊
Hey Ellen! I just followed your guidance and used my choice of butters and oils and made this last nigh. I LOVE IT! Thank you! I do have a question though. After piping it in the jars and letting it sit to be sure it was completely cool, I went back out to put the lids on and noticed a small amount of condensation building up in the pockets of air down in the jar. I’m not sure what to do about it. Has this happened to you? Will it be ok? I used Optiphen Plus for my preservative at the same rate you did, so I just need to be sure. Thank you for everything you do for us. Your guidance gave me the confidence to try it out ♥️
Hello how are you? I wanted to ask.. what can I do to make this recipe a lighter pump-able version? My family loves this lotion but I can't put it in pump bottles for them. I don't know how you formulate your lotions but you are awesome at it. I would like to learn but I don't know how. Thanks for your videos😁
@@EllenRuthSoap Thanks! I'm making half the recipe. 14:40 By the way, you have put powder milk on your lotion before! It was on a video of 2 years ago "DIY easy homemade cream pot body butter lotion..." I tried that recipe and was nice!
Love this idea. 💕Thank you for sharing. I have all the yummy goodies for this. Question.. is this able to be pumped or is it a little to thick for pumps? Either way I'm gonna try this. 💕
Love! Do you think a tiny amount of rose clay or calamine powder could be added to the hot liquid portion just so I could give it a tint to distinguish between my other creams?
Hi, love your vids. I have watched this one several times. I would like to know if it is possible to use "fresh" not powdered goat milk in place on the aloe?
That's a really good question. I have not made "milk" lotions, I have concerns about shelf life... But I know there are others that have done it successfully.
@@EllenRuthSoap thanks for replying. I've been searching and have found lots of "lotion" recipes with goat milk, and some are similar to your body butter. your recipe has more buters and that's what I'm wanting. Most of the other ingredients are the same.

Love From Nigeria...🥰🥰
Thanks so much 😊
Ellen you did it again l just love your Videos!💚🤗🤗🤗🤗🌻
Thank you🥰
Hey Ellen, I have a question. I want a thick cream that can go into squeeze bottles. Would you say that this one or the cream pot is way to thick for a squeeze bottle? I've made the cream pot lotion, and it's awesome. So was looking for the squeeze bottle version of that.
I think this formula would be good for a squeeze type bottle: ua-cam.com/video/hoveBvvg6zI/v-deo.html
@@EllenRuthSoap Thanks! Going to give it a try.
Hi Ellen, love it, I want to scale this to small amount just to try it for me , but I have a doubt, do I take into consideration the Optiphen, F.O. &. colloidal oats to figure out my % or just up to stearic acid? Thank you again for your amazing tutorials.
I suggest scaling down the base ingredients, then figure out your preservative and F.O. on that volume.
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you so very much Ellen, I appreciate your response to this question. Good day today🎄🎄🎄
I want to try to make an emulsified body butter 🧈 what if I don't add the oats? can I just omit the oats or do I have to replace it with something else? will the finished product be the same? also can I whip this recipe and if so when do I begin the whipping process?
Yes, you can leave the oats out no problem. And start whipping when the lotion is cool and thick
Thank you for sharing! ❤
Should we test the pH?
You could test for pH, especially if you have sensitive skin issues..
Love this… if you market this in the fall would you consider this more of a body butter or a lotion? Thanks
It's really a hybrid of both, I call it a "cream"
Love your videos. Would it be possible to use aloe Vera squeezed from the actual plant?
Aloe gel is different to work with than aloe juice, it would be a different formula.
I tried this recipe minus the aloe and it's an absolute delight! So thick❤. I was keen to try the colloidal oats in the mix. D'you think it's the oats that contributes to this butter's thickness? or the stearic acid?
Thanks for sharing such a magic recipe🙏
I think the stearic acid makes for a very thick formula.
Good to know thank you, this was my first time using it 🤓@@EllenRuthSoap
Thank you so much as always! 💙
This lotion is amazing 🤩
Thank you for all the wonderful recipes and tips. I've had a lot of success watching your videos. There was a lotion recipe I really liked but can no longer find. It was simple, where I used 1/2 cup of any oils I liked, it made a quart jar amount and I used a pump I found on Amazon. Where can I find this video?
That video is gone, but a new version will be out on Nov. 25
I love this lotion! If I were to make this recipe and wanted to be able to bottle it in a squeeze bottle, how would I adjust the amounts to make it thinner?
You could increase the liquid a bit and reduce the stearic acid a bit. I suggest doing a small test batch and see how you like it.
When using aloe vera juice along with the water, is the shelf life the same as using just the water? Thanks so much. Love your channel!
Yes, it is!👍🍁
What is the stearic acid for? Is it required for thick creams only? Or can it be left out and replaced with more emulsifying wax?
Stearic is a conditioning and thickening agent, it adds structure to the lotion. Humble Bee and Me has tons of great info on stearic acid and how to formulate lotions.
Hi madam Ellen
Isn't aloe vera suppose to be added at the cool down stage?
Always enjoy your videos esp the soap videos.
Cheers.
You can use Aloe juice as part of the water phase. If using gel, that would be at the cool down.
Hi Ellen, love this so much!! I have a question because I'm not 100% sure on difference, can this be used on the face? Or only on the body? Thank you so much 😊
Yes, it would be a great face cream. I would decrease the fragrance amount for a face cream.
Thank you
Your guidance gave me the confidence to try it out ♥️
That happens sometimes, if you've used the proper amount of preservative, it'll be okay 😉
@@EllenRuthSoap ok thank you, that makes me feel better! ♥️
Is this lotion to thick for pump bottles? I'm making it tomorrow but want to use pump bottles. Love your channel Ellen ❤❤❤
Yes, this one is pretty thick..
Thanks for this recipe sweetie I will definitely try it 💜
Hope you enjoy💕
I cant watch enough of this. Its so yummy.
Since it contain water, what Ph is best for this formula?
I did not perform a pH test on this, but there are several great videos on UA-cam showing how to do that.
You are so awesome!! Thanks a lot!!
You're welcome!
I Love your work!
Thank you 🥰
Hello how are you?
I wanted to ask.. what can I do to make this recipe a lighter pump-able version?
My family loves this lotion but I can't put it in pump bottles for them. I don't know how you formulate your lotions but you are awesome at it. I would like to learn but I don't know how.
Thanks for your videos😁
You can increase the water portion and the liquid oils a bit. Here is a lighter lotion formula video:

@@EllenRuthSoap Thanks! I'm making half the recipe.
14:40 By the way, you have put powder milk on your lotion before! It was on a video of 2 years ago "DIY easy homemade cream pot body butter lotion..." I tried that recipe and was nice!
Love this idea. 💕Thank you for sharing. I have all the yummy goodies for this. Question.. is this able to be pumped or is it a little to thick for pumps? Either way I'm gonna try this. 💕
This is a bit too thick for a pump, you could adjust the liquid to hard oils ratio if desired
Love! Do you think a tiny amount of rose clay or calamine powder could be added to the hot liquid portion just so I could give it a tint to distinguish between my other creams?
I think that sounds beautiful. I suggest trying a small test batch to make sure you like the final outcome
Most of the other ingredients are the same.
love it
Looks delicious will give it a try once my fragrance arrives...could this be used on the face.
Yes, it’s great on the face
