So nice to see tallow getting some love. I made a whipped tallow balm and used a cottonwood bud infused olive oil as my liquid. Scented with a couple drops each of black spruce, black pepper, palo santo and frankinscense essential oils . Love it so much.
My twenty year old daughter and I (I’m 54) just started using tallow balm on our face, and we love it! It’s so moisturizing and we can both see a difference on our skin. Thank you for the recipe.
I love , love tallow creams and yes they are very similar to our skin and therefore easy to absorb without clogging pores. Ellen make a lip balm, you will love it. Mine has orange and lavender eo in it!
That's what I was thinking a lip balm because of how moisturizing it looks! Is the recipe the same and maybe just use it as the salve instead of whipping it then?
I had to come back and thank you so much , lovely lady ❤ I made this tallow balm with, camelia oil, rosehip oil, lemon and frankinsense essential oils, absolutely great 👍 I gave some to a friend who had really dry sore skin on his leg, and it's cleared it up within a few days of use. I tried to whip some, but I think I need more practice, so I'm just sticking to the balm for now 😂 Thanks once again, my skin loves it too, next it's the beard balm. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family, and God bless you ❤
I just made a body butter with tallow, lard, camel fat, cocoa butter, salmon oil and avocado oil. I put cocoa powder and real chocolate in it❤ It smells so good and I didn’t even put any fragrance in it. I love these tallow videos from you! No wonder your skin is so beautiful 🦋
I adore tallow balm! I'm too impatient to do the freezer gig. So after double boiling (melting tallow), I add my liquid oils, EO/FO if using, and start ice bath whipping. Stop before you think you need to. It's luxurious!
Hello Ellen Ruth! I just discovered you today and I find you amazing! Thank you for all your instructions! I'm a very new soap maker (I've only made 3 batches) You have taught me so much today! I made this couple days ago and just now tried it. WOW! I added some zinc oxide to mine but I am so in love with how this makes my skin feel. I gave some to my neice for her baby (that is why I added the zinc). She is going to love this.
I made my first batch of this tallow balm with this recipe. I researched different oils and came to fenugreek oil which it said had good skin properties. When it came time to make it I noticed a strong celery smell came with that oil. The peppermint and rosemary essential didn’t take it away so the first batch is celery scented. I made a second batch using olive oil instead of the fenugreek and I could smell the essential oils in that one but it didn’t whip up as nice. I gave them to my girlfriend’s and my families for Christmas. They liked the one I used olive oil in but seemed to prefer the celery scented one. Lol
I love that your showcasing this! I have had tallow balms in my line since I started and it is one of my best sellers! The benefits of tallow on the skin are amazing!
Thanks for this! I have been using just tallow mixed with essential oils & I see a BIG difference in my skin. But, a fluffy cream is SO much nicer. I will make this tomorrow. 😊
I love tallow, I made this tallow balm and whipped it, I put a light scent in mine , but my dog still smelled the tallow and he wanted to lick my hand because he thought it was beef lol, but they have super smelling, but I didn't smell any tallow, so you really need to put some kind of scent in it or you might attract unwanted dogs lol!! But otherwise tallow is the best moisturizer to me! Thanks Ellen for the nice video and your so informative 😊.

I recently have become obsessed with making different tallow butter recipes, and am still tinkering around with different oils. I added lavender adn vanilla EO, looking forward to trying this on my face. i live in Washington and two of my daughters live in Oklahoma, I recently shipped lotion bars to them that did not melt, I am going to keep it as a salve because it it does melt they can just put it in the fridge and the texture would not change like the whipped one will.
Thank you for another great video. I don't have access to beef tallow, but I do have access to ovine tallow instead, it's also rich and moisturizing, it takes time to clean and deodorize to be ready for soaping, but the result is worth the hard work... It depends on how smooth and how firm the tallow is. If it's really hard, you may need to warm it a bit to whip it. And if it's grainy, melting it and cooling will keep it smooth.
I just finished watching your magnesium lotion recipe, loved it! If I wanted to use this tallow whipped lotion as the base for magnesium oil would that work? Would I use the same ratios? Thanks so much!!! Love watching you always!
TY for another great video Ellen. Can pig tallow be used as well as the beef tallow? Also, do you have to worry about any molding at all since there is no preservative?
Pig lard is a bit softer than beef tallow, so it would be a different consistencey.. Since this doesn't have a water phase, you don't need a preservative. Properly rendered tallow doesn't mold.
I made whipped tallow balm with olive oil. It's was beautifully whipped and soft but after I decanted it, it ended up becoming more solid again. Soft enough to scoop with my finger but not whipped anymore.
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. I tried it today but need your help as it came out gritty. Is this normal? Did I not melt the beef tallow long enough? How long do u melt it for before adding liquid oil & essential oil drops? Thanks I really appreciate your time & reply. :D
Hello! Would Coconut oil be considered as a liquid oil even though it solidifies in the cool weather? So we should add it with the 4oz or the 1oz part?

I did notice that too with this brand of tallow, it’s much softer than home rendered tallow…. You could add a touch of Stearic acid as a thickener for whipping. Or put it in the fridge, it whips better when it’s very cold.

The arrowroot gives it a lighter feel, it takes a bit of the "greasy feel or buttery feel" away.

Is there a specific tallow you recommend or prefer for this for your face?
I like to use home rendered or a grass fed brand like this: amzn.to/3TKET6F

I would start small, like 1/4 tsp and see how you like it.. You can always add more if desired.

I have not tried it in hair? But I think it would make a deep conditioning hair mask. I do use this on my face, but if I was going to use it on hair, I might leave out the arrowroot..
