I remember in my first exposure to terraria, probably like 7-8 years ago at this point, i was really disturbed by the gore. I specifically remember someone in the hallow biome killing unicorns and pixies, and being kind of upset because i liked the band “pixies”
When I tried to use blood rain bow against wall of flesh, I could not see the blood arrows and where it was falling due to the underground background. That's why I turned off blood and gore. Now the white rain was clearly visible.
Never knew I'd live to a day where child safety in terraria is useful for me. My 2 year old niese loves to watch me play but mostly she just wants me to catch critters. Gotta make sure no bunny is turned into bloody pieces by a random slime.

I only recently learned that was an innuendo while playing Terraria with a friend who I was introducing the game to, when she commented on it and I asked what was wrong. Also funny when there are other innuendos in the game, and I definitely did not get the jokes with "Mourning Wood" or "Master Bait" when I was a kid.
Should not be taken literally. Maybe this "child safety" feature was initially created for that, but later changed. To me it's just another accessibility feature, which I appreciate; blood and gore are basically more complex particles that can be disabled for performance purposes.

I usually end up playing with the particles off - not because I dislike it! But because all the little enemy pieces just get in the way when I'm trying to pick up items and fight, I just find them distracting. I much prefer the puff of smoke.

hey, I thought there will be more unusual safe or not safe gores, considering there are so many enemies in the game, but there are not that many mistakes. So, relogic did a good job on their safety. The santa one, I can get. The other parts are recognizable body parts so I get why they considered not safe gore while the tremill is, well, not a body part. The golem one seems like an oversight. and the spider one seems like an oversight as well.

I think the reasoning between the wall creeper and black recluse legs and body is because of the fact that wall creeper is prehardmode so the player might be heavily freaking out already. By the time you're in hardmode it's more just rage over scare.
my favorite quirk of the blood and gore setting is it changing the particle effect of the crimson heart light pet (which is made of blood for obvious reasons) to the clouds, making the heart look like its steaming

Another interesting thing: If 'Blood and Gore' is switched off, some other non - sprite features are changed, for example the one of the nurse's dialogues is removed. So, would that also potentially change the definition of 'blood and gore' in terraria?

I love that blood comes in a variety of colors in this game. It just makes sense, it adds visual variety, and it has consistency across different species. Humans, zombies, and various animals have red blood. Eater-varient entities have lime-green blood, and the Crimson’s creatures have red or yellow blood. Edit: the martian aliens have purple blood.
I recently turned off blood and gore because in my Journey world I'm often too lazy to turn off mob spawns while building, and the gore just stops me from seeing what im placing
