The flare guns is one of the most interesting thing in Terraria with how it’s a Lighting tool, useless weapon and a effective way 2 cheese fights by hitting entity limits
Imagine being a primordial lovecraftian being and some guy with a flare gun shows up moving around like a drunkard looking the opposite dorection of wherever he's going, renovates his home in the middle of the fight, kills you without breaking a sweat, and talks to the aether about something called an 'elden ring dlc' the whole time
I was there during the stream, I said something like "I got brick walled by the final boss" (of the elden ring dlc), and he replied "You got bricked u- you got brick walled by the final boss?". I laughed for like 10 minutes after that
damaging debuffs do stack properly, i decompiled the game to verify visually, the amount of damage the enemy takes is unchanging. in reality, the strength of the DOT visual ticks is set to the strength of the strongest debuff, but the ticks are more frequent if the enemy has more debuffs in other words, if you apply On Fire and Cursed Inferno together, the enemy only visually takes 10 damage per tick, but both debuffs are subtracting health correctly you can verify this visually by using debuffs with more similar damage rates, e.g. Cursed Inferno (24 dps) plus Frostbite (25 dps). the enemy will still only visually take 10 damage per tick, since both Frostbite and Cursed Inferno have a visual tick of 10 damage, but the enemy will clearly be taking more damage if both are applied
Oh yes, the Panic Necklace - one of the best ways of turning your character into Flash pre-hardmode. Definitely one of my most favorite mobility accessories in the game
I'm about 60% sure that stacking DoT debuffs _does_ work; it's just that, rather than increasing the damage dealt by each damage increment, it instead reduces the time between increments and thereby increases their DPS overall. The only problem is the difference between cursed inferno's tick frequency and cursed inferno+on fire!'s tick frequency is so small that actually being able to tell becomes nigh-impossible.
DoT stacking does work, it is very hard to notice in the case of fire + cursed inferno though (I tested on the twins and went through it frame by frame)
debuffs normally set regen to 0 and then reduce it by dps, so i think they should just increase damage enemies get over time, but then again, there is lifeRegenExpectedLossPerSecond value that is set to dps normally, and i dont know how it interracts with other debuffs with different values. sorry for necroposting or whatever
17:30 The On Fire! DPS is still counting, the game is just making the ticks of 10 damage slightly more frequent, presumably to help with visual clutter. (I tested stacking the debuffs on the twins and looked at it frame-by-frame, the on fire + cursed inferno did ticks of 10 damage more frequently than cursed inferno alone, though it is very hard to see while playing)
-Great editing with good transitions and fluid pace -Great Script with good punchlines and one liners -Great gameplay and intriguing hook -Video's very in-depth and insightful Definitely my favorite ytber right now
I really enjoy your videos - I learn a lot about the game thanks to your mind-blowing challenges! Your insanely broad vocabulary just adds up to it. Thank you for making these!
9:22 as someone who plays mostly on mobile with a controller, the biggest issue isn't actually how well it works nor how it limits your movement/aiming, it's the lack of enough buttons to bind every control 😭. Actually movement is kinda pretty bad tbh, it's clunky and gets me killed while exploring at times but for bosses I actually prefer controller over mouse and keyboard because the auto aim hits about 50% of the time so I don't have to worry about aiming, just positioning and dodging.
Was fun hanging around some of the streams and just chilling while talking about dunking fishes in milk, elden ring, femboy thigh highs and how the flesh of the mimics work. Major kudos to you :)
I have used flare gun seriously in very early parts of the game in the past (pre-boss and before I have something else that can deal damage at range while also lighting things up) because at that point, it might genuinely be a decent weapon.
Im pretty sure the first time I killed a wyvern, I did it with a flare gun. It was better than the other options I had at the time. I think I'll start using it more now.
I actually use the flare gun in my play, if you don't need to retrace your path it's easier to place than torches, works underwater, and igniting enemies can let you see through walls early on to find ores
17:39 it's still increments of 10 but they're happening more rapidly with just cursed inferno, the twins take 192 damage from 17:32 - 17:36. that's about 24 dps on each with both, the twins take 220 damage from 17:40 - 17:44. that's about 27.5 dps on each
I'm happy that you skipped lunatic cultist just for the fact that it's not interesting. Fun video is way more important than trying to prove a point you have already proven
@@nvs0p Because the flare gun does so little damage, any defense at all will reduce it to 1 damage per shot. Meaning halving a boss' defense makes no difference.
I wanted to see more on how the voice controls work. This is something that could really help out players with mobility issues and I would love to learn more about it. I wrote a paper and made a video on accessibility suggestions for the game. Red has seen the paper and shared it with the team. Do you mind sharing more about how the voice controls work? I want to test it out and add it to the paper if this is viable as an accessibility feature. :)
I was using the voice attack software, but it’s extremely difficult playing with voice controls. It’s got serious input delay issues and mouse controls are very tough. I’d suggest watching the video of when I beat rain world with voice controls for an example of what playing games with them is like, that is pretty much the peak performance I could pull off using them
the video of that one guy suggesting a loadout to beat moonlord and it's just "use a coppershort sword" and i realise that mf's actually did it is wild
i'm a controller player so i was surprised you counted that as a challenge lol. in the early game it basically makes no difference, but the issue with controller comes later when you realise that your right thumb is used for both aiming and jumping, and your left thumb has to do movement and mounting, which makes endgame bosses extremely awkward. i fixed it by rebinding jump to left trigger, mount to right trigger and hotbar scrolling to my dpad, which was very odd to learn but works great
I’ve been playing console since 1.2 and have never used auto aiming in my life. The easiest way to play with a controller is to bind the left stick button as jump so your right thumb doesn’t have to do double duty aiming and jumping/flying at the same time.
I've never disliked the flare gun, it's free damage, like the Clinger Staff or Golden Shower Out of all bad weapons, I'd say either Paper Planes or Lawnmower is worst Blowpipe isn't bad at all though But I'd love to see a Paper Plane run, they're fun to use, but are hard to aim Blowpipe is just massively buffed by the dart variants
pretty sure debuff stacking actually isn't bugged and on fire and cursed flames do stack it probably looks like it's not doing anything but the 10 damage ticks are a little faster I think I mean it does in tmodloader anyway, idk if the tmodloader debuff code is different from terraria though
Oh, I’m surprised you didn’t go with the “”cheese strategy”” that I came up with for Legendary Skeletron, which would have been perfect here, I think! When I did it, I was having a lot of trouble with the casters, but then realized that I didn’t actually have to deal with them. I could just use the magma stone’s Hellfire DoT to kill Skeletron through his defense without ever destroying either of his hands! So, it basically left the fight permanently in phase 1, which was a lot easier. I’m sure you could do the same thing with the flare gun, considering that most of its damage comes from the fire anyway. I’m sure someone else has come up with the strategy before, and good chance there’s some problem with it, like the damage from the actual projectile going from 3 to 1. But, I certainly found it easier, and if you are dealing almost no damage to him anyway…
Nah my friend, don't feel like your time is useless because this dude does wild stuff! You could have 1000 hours of almost purely building and it'd still be 1000 hours well spent because Terraria is a giant sandbox. It's meant to be played with and molded to however you want it to look.

theres literally no purpose adding cursed flames but its relogic and i love it
they look cool, though, right?
It feels like they specifically added it for challenges, which is cool
i know right, cursed flames are so useless. ichor is so much better!
I would say that there *kind of* is. It allows applying the debuff with minimal actual weapon damage. That could, technically, have some niche uses.
It’s like adding fire aspect to a wood sword lol
Imagine being a primordial lovecraftian being and some guy with a flare gun shows up moving around like a drunkard looking the opposite dorection of wherever he's going, renovates his home in the middle of the fight, kills you without breaking a sweat, and talks to the aether about something called an 'elden ring dlc' the whole time

I mean, if you're a primordial lovecraftian being you probably see and do weirder things on the regular, so it wouldn't be likely to phase you.
I will never forget when my dumbass was gaslighted about red flares during the stream, that was great
@electricfall getoutofmyheadgetoutofmyheadgetoutofmyhead
I had no part in that :) Don't check vod
I am kinda scared to ask, but how did they gaslight you about red flares?
@electricfall yeah I know red flares always did that I don't know why people think that it was ever different
I was gonna watch it, but when I saw the "red flares" I left lmao.
voice controls are easy you can just say "beat the game"
damaging debuffs do stack properly, i decompiled the game to verify
visually, the amount of damage the enemy takes is unchanging. in reality, the strength of the DOT visual ticks is set to the strength of the strongest debuff, but the ticks are more frequent if the enemy has more debuffs
