Best cast ever!! Oh my gosh. Adam and Matt (both great gms!), Jerry Holkins (hilarious on d&d's acquisitions incorporated), and Austin Walker (great role player!). Excited for this! Congrats on getting them all together
I saw Jerry in a tiny thumbnail on the youtube sidebar and had to click over because I love me some Jerry Holkins! Imagine my surprise thirty seconds later when I see Austin Walker opposite him on my viewscreen. The words "Oh hey, it's been a long time since I've seen Austin. I hope he's been doing alright since leaving Giantbomb," were barely past my lips when I spied to the south and east the twin countenances of Adam Koebel and Matthew Mercer and my mind was instantly vaporized. itmeJP you got yourself a sub sir! I might even make the jump to twitch for this!
Not only do I love Dogs In The Vineyard (I mean, come on, it's Vincent Baker) but the cast is amazing for this one shot. Can't wait to see whats comes next. A great amuse-bouche while I wait for Blades in the Dark.
I subbed to your twitch channel just so I could finish watching this all today. This is an AMAZING one shot!! In my dreams this could be a series? This universe is too good NOT to continue. Bravo everyone!
ADAM! I so envy his ability to speak so eloquently and think on his feet. I have been watching Swan Song as well and I honestly haven't come across a moment where Adam seems stuck or that he didn't anticipate something the players threw at him. He rolled a natural 20 on life skills ;P.... *bah dum tss*
Jonathan Tessier thanks for the reading recommendation, I really appreciated that piece! The Witcher 3 is my favorite game in years, but certainly not immune to that kind of criticism. I probably respect Austin more than any other critic working in games, and the idea that he hates games is laughable. No one works in this industry because they hate games. Ask any respectable critic, and they'll tell you the same thing: they criticize things BECAUSE they love them, and they want them to be better.
Jonathan Tessier I read the blog post you link to and the follow up to it and I can't really see why you vilify this person to such an extent. I saw no eveidence of Austin "hating gamers". It is hardly hateful to bring up the possible inclusion of other races in a game.
The 1848 dragoon was originally designed to kill a man and/or his horse at 100 yards. Did the game not include the 1851 navy? Those were widely used in duels/shootouts. Wild Bill Hickok was famous for using the 1851 navy.
I just want shows that run for years man. I can't get invested unless it goes on for far too long. I'm giving these smaller ones a chance but I just want another Solum or Swan Song. Or maybe just bring back Spec person the third.
Jormelli Kind of a late reply but I agree with the other commenter, watch Critical Roll if you want to be invested in an awesome party and adventure. I just started watching it 1 week ago and I have been binge watching their 3 hour plus episodes all day.
You guys are a pretty great group to test a new system with. I’m watching court of swords after this stuff, I’m hooked after critrole and I want to start branching into the shows on round table and black dice society
I believe they're alluding to the story of Joseph from the Bible. He was given a coat of many colours by his father to signify that he was his favoured son. It's from the Book of Genesis. God, I've never felt like more of a dork in the comments of a RollPlay show.
Hey guys I'm going to start a 5e campaign for the module The Lost Mines of Phandelver. It's the first time I'll DM, and I also I have a pretty large group of 7 players with a wide range of personalities. I also have a petty session of 2 hours. I was wondering if anyone had tips on running the Module or DMing in general. Like for example scaling the goblin ambush. I'll be running the game on roll20 and using skype.
I TPK'D my party with this module first time DM'ing :) haha! So... have less monsters or secretly fudge with the dice. It can be hard to balance without much DM experience.
the first goblin ambush is fine if you have four or more players. I didn't use much of their hiding and stealth, and the rules for fleeing means its really a fight to kill three, not four. the big problem I have with lost mine is that it doesn't give players time with gundren or sildar in order to get invested in their fates. if I was running it again I'd do flashbacks with each character to act out a past adventure they had with gundren
Thanks for the advice guys, Today I had my first session, 3 players didn't come. However it was a fun two hours! My players decided to carve out the right eye of a Goblin who they took down into a prone position. The cleric got crit and survived after a custom NPC had to drag the unconscious body into a wagon. The party ranger shot two goblins bringing them below 2 hp in one shot and forced them to run away. The warlock used his spells and his NPC orphans to kill two goblins. The rogue killed one while an NPC killed a goblin. That's a total of 5 goblins dead out of a total of 7. I had to get rid of a few because the battle was kinda looking intense there for a moment and had to give them all crappy health. After the battle the ranger decided to check the guts of a goblin to find out what they ate to discern where the came from (Because searching for tracks eluded him). Then the party rogue decided to steal some gold from the rich ranger but the since she failed the ranger quickly shot her as she was rummaging through his pack animal. She almost died an the NPC had to take care of both the Cleric and the Rogue until they got to Phandalin. There their weapons got confiscated, ran into a dwarf bar fight and where the Ranger threw 10 silvers at the warlock who was having a hard time feeding his orphans. Now their going to talk with the town governor, get their weapons, get paid, and do whatever their heart desires until they run into some bandits or hunt out the goblins.
Gotta ask - what was the inspiration behind those Bloodborne Hunter symbols on the overlay? I might be showing my vast historical ignorance by not knowing what that's from, but when I noticed it the whole Yharnam blood-church motif came rushing back into my memory, lol. All of these characters would fit into Bloodborne's atmosphere in a heart-beat, just saying...damn it, now I want to play a Victorian-era dystopian tabletop RPG...ADAM PLS MAKE IT D:
Ahhh, I see. Thanks for the confirmation, I think I've come across that term in some Kabbalah research back in the day...although I might be conflating two things again xD
I love that Austin said he don't expect himself to sleep much and everyone in the Waypoint Twitch chat kept telling him to go the fuck to sleep. Literally over 2000 people.
Saw Matthew Mercer and clicked this video so fast I blistered my finger.
So nice to see Austin Walker, the GM from Friends at the Table!!! Pairing him with Adam and Matt is an amazing combination.
Best cast ever!! Oh my gosh. Adam and Matt (both great gms!), Jerry Holkins (hilarious on d&d's acquisitions incorporated), and Austin Walker (great role player!). Excited for this! Congrats on getting them all together
I am very happy to see Matt Mercer on more RollPlay.
Hyper-religious-daddy-issues squad saves the world.
Matthew Mercer AND Jerry Holkins? This is a fucking insane line-up. :O
I love Austin so much.
holy hell, can Mattew Mercer be in every rollplay? every time he speaks its like someone needs to make a movie out of it and It makes my jaw drop.
This is such an A team of role playing.
I saw Jerry in a tiny thumbnail on the youtube sidebar and had to click over because I love me some Jerry Holkins! Imagine my surprise thirty seconds later when I see Austin Walker opposite him on my viewscreen.

itmeJP you got yourself a sub sir! I might even make the jump to twitch for this!
This was the best 1shot i've ever seen! Wonderful players
Love how Matt's voice changed when they were starting to talk about character backstory, he was clearly already starting to slip into character.
Always wanted to see Matt as a character.
Check out some of the critical role oneshots
WOO Matt Mercer and Tycho man you got some great guests in this one.
39:24 "He must have had a demon in him". Everyone nods sagely. Love it!
Not only do I love Dogs In The Vineyard (I mean, come on, it's Vincent Baker) but the cast is amazing for this one shot. Can't wait to see whats comes next. A great amuse-bouche while I wait for Blades in the Dark.
Lol Jerry Holkins AND Matt mercer!? Hot damn
man this is one all-star cast
Watched the VOD on Twitch, we need more Dogs in the Vineyard (even with other cast members), this is too good!
Holy shit.. the cast is unreal
~ROLEPLAYING GAMES ARE A CONVERSATION~

I subbed to your twitch channel just so I could finish watching this all today. This is an AMAZING one shot!! In my dreams this could be a series? This universe is too good NOT to continue. Bravo everyone!
i love how matt mercer is on roleplay. this is awesome
FULL SERIES! THIS WAS AMAZING
I definitely love love love Matthew and Ty. Thank you for hosting this DnD.
"Hey JP, I don't know if you were aware of this but a lot of people watch your channel" : Amazing.
Austin Walker?! Mah boi!
Nothing but love for Professa Killah
This is like all my favorite RPG people sitting at one table. And I've just now discovered this!
this is just great so far
HOLY SHIT MATT MERCER he is my idol i want to voice act and Learn to DM just like him
Would love to see this cast in a few more sessions.
Oh hey, it's Austin. I haven't seen him in a while since Roll20 Burning Wheel went on hiatus. Good to see him playing again.
lonewolfM16 I think he hosts the Friends at the Table podcast. It's DNDish
This game gives me a very Stephen King's Dark Tower vibe, the Dogs really remind me of the Gunslingers from those books.
I've been reading that series lately. It's interesting.
Yeah, it's kinda like, if Tolkien ran a western themed game of Apocalypse World
YEEEEEEEEEEES! I've had the Rollplay shakes
What is it, the kind of nerdchills?
its the kind where you end up huddled in a corner, muttering horrible nothings...
Powerful cast.
Also John Paul's camera is in a whole other league than the others.
theframe100 the host in a Skype call always looks the best, while the rest are ruined to varying degrees by compression.
Vuvuzealot, Burrito Bandit
I totally forgot about that.
Well he Is a damn fine GM but no one is prepared for their players Just prepared to improvise and put them back on track
True, true. Hence why I will never be a GM lol.
Gming is fun try at the least
you haven't been watching Mirrorshades. Kaitlyn regularly throws him for a loop.
Kaitlyn would throw anyone for a loop
Matt Mercer needs to wear a giant clock on his neck for the BlizzCon panel a la Flavor Flav :P
Holy shit, Masquerada's on Steam? Good to know! :DGreat episode so far!
Literally crying bc of Matt mercer
When talking about OW chars lines being good traits: "Things your character would say, how he would think all i though about was "CATCHPHRASE!"".
Adam and Matt in the same video? Always an immediate click.
I wish everyone had a webcam like JP, so crystal clear I could bottle it
@matthewmercer is a handsome man!
Probably my favorite playlist!
D: matt used parts of his own life story when he was building his character... that was so touching
honestly, each of their coats are fucking epic sounding.
saw Mat and couldn't believe it
did you check out the breakers one shot? t was awesome aswell and includes a stellar line up
Jerry and matt? how did you manage to pull that one off.
could have been interesting if they got Will wheaton instead of matt .... 2 player's known for rolling badly would have been crazy
Austin is a friend of Adam's they have done quite a few dnd shows on roll20's twitch
I think Austin was only on the first Burning Wheel campaign, but I definitely loved his character
Jonathan Tessier thanks for the reading recommendation, I really appreciated that piece! The Witcher 3 is my favorite game in years, but certainly not immune to that kind of criticism.

Matthew Mercer and Jerry Holkins in the same game!
I feel like they're all in an AA meeting.
I'd love to see Matthew Mercer GMing Dungeon World. It would be freaking awesome!
I want this cast more
holy shit mercer and jerry in the same game? my orifices aren't prepared
Greatest Description Ever
I just want shows that run for years man. I can't get invested unless it goes on for far too long. I'm giving these smaller ones a chance but I just want another Solum or Swan Song. Or maybe just bring back Spec person the third.
Jormelli hey Critical Role is almost at its 2 year mark.
Jormelli Kind of a late reply but I agree with the other commenter, watch Critical Roll if you want to be invested in an awesome party and adventure. I just started watching it 1 week ago and I have been binge watching their 3 hour plus episodes all day.
I REALLY wish they'd do a Mage: The Ascension one shot. i.e. the game about Paradigm. best game i've ever played or run.
Up for 140 hours? You’re legally insane at that point.
I’m dead
You guys are a pretty great group to test a new system with. I’m watching court of swords after this stuff, I’m hooked after critrole and I want to start branching into the shows on round table and black dice society
Matt looks like Jamie Lannister in this video. I dig it.
Starring three nerds and Prince Charming from Shrek 2.
Did I miss something where was court of swords?
Oh wait Matt Mercer is playing Matt Murdock if he had followed Frank Castle a bit more.....yes.
i didnt understand the thing about Josephs coat. Why was it multicolored on the inside like what was the story there?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_many_colors
holy shit thats so freaking cool. Got the nerd chills
I believe they're alluding to the story of Joseph from the Bible. He was given a coat of many colours by his father to signify that he was his favoured son. It's from the Book of Genesis.
God, I've never felt like more of a dork in the comments of a RollPlay show.
back east? do they mean jersey?
Has anyone on here ever played this game before? If so is it hard to GM, or is it actually pretty easy, either way I'd love to try my hand at it.
Brother Simon should have had an excellent sword/machete like a badlands templar....
VR D&D needs to be a thing
wtf you managed to get matt mercer playing with you HOLY SHIT !
this is the 3rd time he has been on this channel
Is this in Podcast form somewhere?

JP apparently has access to Whataburger. My man!
this is awesome want more
I read the title as "Drugs in the Vineyard". I need to get some sleep lol.
Austin Walker IS the Giant Bomb
the theme song of this one shot is clearly no church in the wild by Jay-Z and Kanye
muss I would argue that it's Take Me to Church by Hozier haha
Gotta ask - what was the inspiration behind those Bloodborne Hunter symbols on the overlay? I might be showing my vast historical ignorance by not knowing what that's from, but when I noticed it the whole Yharnam blood-church motif came rushing back into my memory, lol.
All of these characters would fit into Bloodborne's atmosphere in a heart-beat, just saying...damn it, now I want to play a Victorian-era dystopian tabletop RPG...ADAM PLS MAKE IT D:
it's the tree of life, a symbol that predates Bloodborne by quite a lot!
Ahhh, I see. Thanks for the confirmation, I think I've come across that term in some Kabbalah research back in the day...although I might be conflating two things again xD
for anyone wondering when the game starts it starts at 7:45
I actually had no idea that Tycho was a turtle.
please i beg all people in the science world focus on cloning matt.....i want one so bad.
7:50
MERCEEEEEEEEER
an excellent, big quadruple barrel shotgun
kibitz.....ive learned a new word to use in class tom. when my classmates wont shutup
Is the title being flanked by the hunter symbol from Bloodborne? It's thematically appropriate if it is.
Wait does this roleplay have to do with actual dogs?
The Mic of the guy top right is so bad and loud...
Wasn't any louder then JP was for me. Maybe turn your volume down? In fact I think he was quieter then JP, but then again JP is just loud over all.
where my dawgs at!!
I was going to click like and then I saw the number... I am not messing with that.
YES YES YES!!!!
o shit austin walker aswell.
Damnit Ho! stop interrupting. #cassyho?
who came in hoping they would rp as dogs =p
oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh! :)
I love that Austin said he don't expect himself to sleep much and everyone in the Waypoint Twitch chat kept telling him to go the fuck to sleep. Literally over 2000 people.
I love that Beastie Boys song!
