In 1969 when I was 14, I was at Wallichs Music City in Hollywood at Sunset & Vine on a Saturday at almost midnight. I was with my mom who was an audiophile with slightly more "conventional" tastes. The counterman was playing the first & only LZ album and I was enthralled. I wandered up to the clerk and asked him, "Who's that you got playing?" He says, "A new group from England called Led Zeppelin. This is their debut album. Good aren't they?" I just answered back, "Can I get one?" He gave me the album and I held it out looking at the historical picture on the cover. "Thanks, man!" I'm sixty-nine now & I still love their music.
I never got to see Led Zeppelin live. I did, however, get within 10 feet of Jimmy Page in 1985 when he toured with Paul Rogers and The Firm. I was 18 and it still rates up there with seeing my son born for special moments in my life.
When Page gets into his solos, he doesn't have time to think of what he's doing, he just lets his fingers do to flying. That's why his guitars don't talk to him, they scream for him.. That's why Page is so beautifully talented... Love you James Patrick page.
The amazing thing is that Page is able to switch gears so smoothly, he's constantly switching back and forth in every song, usually starting out playing the song's "theme" lick, changing to chords while throwing in many of the fills that are on the original record (guitar parts that are of course tracked in during the making of the record), and then go into a blistering solo and back. A lesser band would need two guitarists and still not sound anywhere as good. Not counting Plant because he almost never plays a musical instrument on stage, you have here a band with three instrument playing musician sounding so good without using any preprogramed canned, backing music tracks on stage or a man "behind the curtain" like many bands do.
@frankkolton1780 And when Page is on stage, he just makes it look so easy and both you and I know that it ain't.. Page wanted to be a painting artist in teens.. I'm so glad that he switched gears and went in the opposite direction.
All four of them were critical to create the songs they did. It wouldn't have worked without any one of them. They were all geniuses and complemented each other perfectly.
I was a kid just old enough to be going nuts over rock music when they were blowing the 70's apart and would like the younger fans out there today to know I'm still a little pissed that we had virtually zero opportunities to see so much VIDEO of Zep and all those bands - THERE WERE ONLY PHOTOS IN MAGS NEVER GOT TO SEE THEM MOVE - so in recent years it's F-ing glorious to finally get to see all this
Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of the Century. First album was released in 1968. 55 years later they're still on the radio every day of the year, and for a damn good reason." Thanks for everything you guys recorded.
Hello, I am just here to let you know this is the greatest band of all time and there are really no comparisons nor competitors. I love a lot of music, and a lot of bands, but there is not a single one that can touch Zeppelin.
Of course ! You are stating the obvious but get this; There wasn't an Internet just a handful of newspapers and I can't remember if I saw Led Zep on the TV so that said they rose to such great heights purely by WORD OF MOUTH, they arrived in the US and people had already heard of this amazing rock band.
I always thought "The Ocean" was a nice fun song. Just watching this footage is so wonderful. The band looks just chill and having fun with it. Great seeing it.
@@KittyGrizGriz I know right? "underrated" has become the stupidest most overrated word when used all the time. Sort of like "Iconic". It's become meaningless. "The Ocean" is one of LZ's top rated riffs of all time.
I was listening to this in LA when it first came out... I went out on my balcony as it played... just then the Goodyear blimp flew over my place... enough said! 💥
my first show: Zeppelin 1977 July 24... their last show in the US, ever... who knew? Judas Priest opened (we didn't know who they were), then Rick Derringer (they were GREAT). I was 13... no clue about anything. But it remains one of my best memories ever.
Page is a musical genius,he pumped out guitar riffs like an assembly line, love the whole "houses of the holy" album, personal favorite ,prolly top three favorite zep songs
50 years! Has passed and phenomenon that happend in the 70s with this historic band! Never happend againg..!! Thats how unique they were!! Amazing! Pages! Guitar work and composition! Unmatched till today!...what a great band! All of them titans!
Such great photography, everything is in sync, and the performance is stellar. This is traveling back in time to see the real Led Zeppelin in their prime.
Love this live version of The Ocean, Jonesy and Bonzo really are outstanding with that killer groove they're laying down and Jimmy and Robert are in fantastic form as well. No one did it better. 🔥🔥🌊
I was in college in ‘73. My sophomore roommate was a huge LZ fan. I wasn’t a fan back then, but now? Hell, yes! I’m just sorry I never saw them live. My loss 😢
As a fan who fell in love with them around 72 or so, and who thinks the world of them all.....can we finally acknowledge one of the most underrated and sometimes under-appreciated rock musicians, ever? This is taking _nothing_ away from any of the "big 3", but as a lifelong music lover, musician, audio engineer and audio teacher, I *still* find myself discovering new aspects of and appreciation for what JPJ brought to the band. I honestly don't think they would have been the same without him. I'm sure there are other equally under-appreciated players in some famous bands, but TBH I have trouble thinking of any, at least not to the degree that Jones seems to be overlooked.
No, they're not underappreciated. Why do people always say that about the most popular bands ever. Are the Beatles underappreciated? The grateful dead? Cream?? Stevie Ray Von? No! And it's a stupid comment, no offense. Every member of LZ is a GOD to musicians. They made more money than anyone, despite critics hating them. John Paul Jones is not overlooked. Maybe it's because you don't play any instruments but Jones was a famous producer for decades after Zeppelin and he still is. By all means, love the band but as the British say - oh, shut up!
@@SuiGenerisMan well Mr. Unique, I'll try to be gentler with you than you were with me. Why did you mention those bands? I never said LZ was under appreciated, I said it was JPJ who was under appreciated(and I stand by that). Since you questioned it, I've been a musician since 1972, played in many bands, made my living that way for a while and have now been in the audio industry for over 40 years including making a living as a recording engineer, now teaching audio engineering and sound design at a small university. I've asked many knowledgable folks "who comes to mind when you think of some of the great rock bassists" and very, _very_ few of them come up with JPJ in the first 5 or 6 names, even though they almost all say "oh yes, of course" when I mention him. Obviously, we are each of us the expert on our own opinion and that is fine. What I hope for you is that you can maybe start to respond to people such that even if your opinion is different, you might not need to make it come across as so aggressive or as an attack, I honestly just can't see a reason for that. And now, as you suggested, I'll "shut up".
I hear ya! My older brother brought home LZII when it came out... I've been a Zepp Head ever since. JPJ inspired me to learn the bass. It's a part of my soul.
Nice to see young people gettin hip to the Zeppilin Jimi Page is King. Many people tried to unseat him. Before you start howling. Never mind judt listen to all zep songs.
What becomes so obvious in this clip is, that they all had an incredible sense of rhythm. It is not only Bonham. The entire band is just on the point and on the groove. Not many (if any) of their peers and competitors at the time (or after) could produce that kind of swing … this performance (this song and the entire series of shows at MSG back in '73) is one of the pinnacles of rock music.
Best band of all time by not just the musicians, but the band together and how they could play, improvise and they’re overall chemistry. The most complete rock band of all time in my opinion. Love Led Zeppelin as a teen.
i am convinced that they are not from this planet. they have to be from another universe. asgard? it would make total perfect sense if they were from the home of the god of thunder in thor along with brother loki. ok, loki is adopted but i accept him as thor's brother.
My older sister turned me on to Led Zeppelin back in 1970, she had Zeppelin 2 album, she was 22 and I was 10. It changed my life! I was like this is awesome! The next year I bought my first album and it was Zeppelin 4. Wow,what a great album! My sister gave me her album Are you Experienced and Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix and I had 2 favorite bands from then on! But Zeppelin was the first!👍👍🎸🎼🎶🎵🎸
@alzaidi7739 I like Hendrix more now, The amount he recorded in the short time he was here is amazing! Even Jimmy Page said Hendrix is the best! So for me it's Hendrix then Zeppelin for my favorites.
My God, what a band. In 1973 when HOTH came out they were at their absolute peak in every way. No family tragedies yet, Robert's voice was strong and clear, and Jimmy looked so healthy, not yet worn down by the drugs as he would be by the late '70s.
On 10/1/23 the 25 year old classical soprano, Patricia Janeckova, lost her battle with breast cancer. In an interview during her fight she said this: "My profession predisposes me to listen to so much music that in my spare time my favorite band is silence and peace. And if I have to choose one example for all, it is the rock band Led Zeppelin, which is far from a classic, but for me it is a balm for the soul". RIP Patricia. No doubt that you took the Stairway to Heaven.
I only wish, that they had also performed "Down By The Seaside" live during their day. That and "The Ocean" are two of my most favorite songs they ever did! This was such a phenomenal show! I love it.

Awesome, I'm 70 and this band still raises the goose pimples, they looked really cool and they matched their appearance with some really solid music. Of course there were many bands since them but they wouldn't be doing it if Led Zep hadn't showed them how it's done.
Not enough superlatives to describe the Greatest Of All Time! No other Rock Band is even in the same galaxy as Led Zeppelin, let alone on earth! I've been here for 51 years and nothing comes close to the perfection they exhibited in that time. In fact, I really don't think anyone will ever come within a moon shot of their astonishing level of magnificence. Need I say more? If so, all I can say is to go listen and learn!
You need to listen to When the Levee Breaks. John Bonham was the drummer. He taught his son Jason how to play when he was 2 or 3 years old, and Jason now plays with them. RIP John

You should check out a current band called Greta Van Fleet. They sound kind of like Led Zeppelin and Rush combined
Just another Zeppelin masterpiece. Such great stage presence by all. Jimmy Page is such a beast on guitar. Legendary band.
I never got to see Led Zeppelin live. I did, however, get within 10 feet of Jimmy Page in 1985 when he toured with Paul Rogers and The Firm.
I was 18 and it still rates up there with seeing my son born for special moments in my life.
Good for you. Rock on!@@TimUrsch-cb3gg
This is a masterpiece! I was 12 years old then. My parents were amazed and delighted. We grew up listening to these nerds!

Jimmy was so lucky to have Bonzo and Jones as his rhythm ensemble. There is no Zeppelin without them.
All 4 were so lucky to have eachother indeed, it wouldnt have worked any other way, absolute magic.
All four of them were critical to create the songs they did. It wouldn't have worked without any one of them. They were all geniuses and complemented each other perfectly.
Rather impressive that these four musicians made a band that rocked the world.

Hello, I am just here to let you know this is the greatest band of all time and there are really no comparisons nor competitors. I love a lot of music, and a lot of bands, but there is not a single one that can touch Zeppelin.
Agreed!
Of course ! You are stating the obvious but get this; There wasn't an Internet just a handful of newspapers and I can't remember if I saw Led Zep on the TV so that said they rose to such great heights purely by WORD OF MOUTH, they arrived in the US and people had already heard of this amazing rock band.

Just think about that possibility to be there... What the hell.... Amazing!!!
The very definition of rock and roll.
Page's tone is so good and his playing is so fluid . incredible time.
Nice to see young people gettin hip to the Zeppilin Jimi Page is King. Many people tried to unseat him. Before you start howling. Never mind judt listen to all zep songs.
Absolutely right one of my favourite track is achilles last stand ☮️🤘✌️
Sry my english not that good
All their performances after 1971 really show how important good acoustics and sobriety is to a musical performance

Each member, each song, each performance a gift from the heavens.

But Zeppelin was the first!👍👍🎸🎼🎶🎵🎸
Parallel lives!
Yeah, that was my dilemma. Who was better, Hendrix or Zeppelin?
Your sister seems like a very cool one to have.
My sister turned me on to Nirvana, so big thanks to her.
@alzaidi7739 I like Hendrix more now, The amount he recorded in the short time he was here is amazing! Even Jimmy Page said Hendrix is the best! So for me it's Hendrix then Zeppelin for my favorites.
Your sister was very cool.
My God, what a band. In 1973 when HOTH came out they were at their absolute peak in every way.
No family tragedies yet, Robert's voice was strong and clear, and Jimmy looked so healthy, not yet worn down by the drugs as he would be by the late '70s.
Couldn't agree more. It's my favorite Zeppelin album.
On 10/1/23 the 25 year old classical soprano, Patricia Janeckova, lost her battle with breast cancer. In an interview during her fight she said this:
"My profession predisposes me to listen to so much music that in my spare time my favorite band is silence and peace.

No one comes close to Robert . What a body!
Also check out The Mighty Who. Another great band, especially live. Watch Pontiac Silverdome 1975 and Isle Of Wight. From 1967 to 1976, The Who were considered the greatest live band. Check out their Live At Leeds Album from 1970. Nuff said.
Awesome, I'm 70 and this band still raises the goose pimples, they looked really cool and they matched their appearance with some really solid music. Of course there were many bands since them but they wouldn't be doing it if Led Zep hadn't showed them how it's done.

Always loved how close they were on stage. Truly enjoying the vibe of the music and the company of each other.
Holy hell! Instrumentally just three piece and they play in the pocket creating this huge sound. Great stuff.
Today Friday having the opportunity to see Led Zeppelin again, they are wonderful and eternal! I wish health to those who are with us! Kisses❤
RIP John
My GOD, I’m 64 years and I continue to get thrills from listening and seeing these videos. I saw them live twice back in the 70’s. Phucking Exhilarating Experience!!!
