I was 3 in 1973, my dad had me listening to Deep Purple, Sabbath, Hendrix, Zeppelin, by the mid 70s it was AC/DC, Motorhead, Van Halen, NWOBHM was his thing by the 1980s, eventually took me to see my first thrash band, Metallica with Raven in 1983, music is the one constant in my life that's always there when I need it, the closest thing to time travel.

This is the template for all heavy metal bands that ever existed! When you stop to think how original and groundbreaking their sound was, it is quite remarkable. They were like a rolling freight train...unstoppable and fearsome...almost supernatural.
@@stevenjosephs9 Yes, Black Sabbath was also a hugely influential band with incredibly talented musicians. However, their approach to the music was very different from the beginning. Many feel that Deep Purple literally created what became known as 'heavy metal' with the album 'Machine Head.' I think of Black Sabbath as more hard rock than heavy metal. There is a difference.
They were all at at their personal peaks at the same time and same place. No one needed to cover for anyone else. Everyone pulls their load like a true band should. Adore them!
@curtispeters8296 literally Noone has said that Deep Purple invented metal. Black Sabbath created metal by writing music with the sole intention of invoking fear, and dread. That is the true foundation of metal. It was only until the NWOBHM that things sped up and became our more modern understanding of metal. Deep Purple doesn't fit into any of those categories, as they are much more rooted in blues rock than anything else.

What made Purple different to other 'heavy rock' bands was the keyboards.

one excellent singer + one very good bassist + one master organist + one fantastic drumer + one genius guitarist = Perfect band = DP
AND the sum of the whole was greater than that of the individual parts.
agree..
I’m very glad you have mentioned that. Roger is excellent. Unfortunately it seems most people have more difficulty to tell bass tones than me. Besides, he was hidden by the others high profiles. But listen to smoke on the water studio version. That song doesn’t exist without THAT bass line. Same case of Space Trucking among other examples
@@luisamendes8181 Of coursre he's excellent ! As the other member of the band, he have his part of reqonsablity on the succes of DP. He's also a good composer.
I agree that many people don't notice the importance of bass line in many good rock songs. The best exemple is with Uriah Heep and specialy with their songs "easy living" and "Suicidal man". If you don't know or forgot it, isten to. I'm sure you'll enjoy the fantastic bass line of Gary Thain !

Deep purple was my first rock concert in 1973 when I was only 16 years old and it is amazing to see that three of these five musicians are still together and playing around the world. they will always remain one of my absolute favorite bands!

One of the best LIVE rock band ever. No doubt.
They sucked live unless it was financially advantageous to put on a good show. ie. recording an album, etc.
Blackmore was openly hostile to the crowd and Glover loved it. Disgusting outfit.

Actually, Ritchie broke a guitar. He threw the black one to the floor, strapped it on, and tried to play it but it wouldn't work. He took it off, threw it down again then went to fetch another one, the beige/white one.
Doesn't get any better than this. Greatest band ever throughout all the changes.
With the original lineup they were awesome.
we started to know big bands like deep purple since we were still in high school in 1973, it's really extraordinary that the power of rock music is. I am a fanatic of this world class band.
Most of this crowd of 20-30 somethings are in their 70-80s now, bet half of them have passed away. Makes you realize how fast time passes and how little time there is for enjoying good tunes and having fun.

Black S & D Purple
@@stevenjosephs9 Yes, Black Sabbath was also a hugely influential band with incredibly talented musicians. However, their approach to the music was very different from the beginning. Many feel that Deep Purple literally created what became known as 'heavy metal' with the album 'Machine Head.' I think of Black Sabbath as more hard rock than heavy metal. There is a difference.
Still are
They were all at at their personal peaks at the same time and same place.
Ian Gillian was on another level. No one comes close. He had everything that makes the perfect front man.
