  • Today we bring out some of the Winchester Longbeard XR 20ga 3" 1-1/4oz 6s and put them to the test at 40 yards through the Stevens 301 20ga and a Cabela's Blackmaxx .575 choke. We definitely saw some interesting results from this combo, so stick around and see how it performs!

Yeah, they definitely aren't as consistent as what they should be for a LB shell

ITS THE CHOKE! I promise you that. I had the exact same odd ball results with different chokes on in the Stevens 301. Shoot and Indian Creek .555 90% in a 10" Circle every time.

It might be, but I highly doubt it. The only good performance we have seen out of any of the LB 20ga shells was a single shell of the 6s through the LB .568 choke. This 301 and Blackmaxx has been a fantastic combo with pretty much everything, so if these were decent shells, they should have done way better. I just think they have some pretty hit and miss quality control. I guess we will see what happens as we continue to test them

@@matttyreeoutdoors I get it. So do me this one favor. Try the first choke again. On or off camera. See if you get that same tight pattern as before. That's how I found out that only one of the 4 chokes I tried actually worked.

I’d definitely like to see you try a Tighter Choke in either the Indian Creek or Pattern Master. It very well could be the choke. I tried a .515 TruLock Choke in my 28ga. W/ TSS and got a HORRIBLE Pattern. Called up the Fellas from TruLock , told them what it did and they sent me another.515 & a .520 to try. ABSOLUTELY A CRUSHER Pattern W/ the .515 and a great enclose Pattern, 20yards or Closer with the.520. I’ve got the .515 in the Bottom Barrel and the .520 in the Top Barrel of my Mossberg Eventide Turkey.

I agree that you would have gotten him, but that last test was great. This one is not very good. I am sticking with my Apex TSS.

The Apex shells are definitely solid performers. These should be way better, but I have a feeling that the quality control over at Winchester just isn't what it's supposed to be for them

Lead #6 going that slow scares me. I would not be excited to use those past 30 yards.

It is about 100fps under what we see from the 12ga shells, but they still hit the pallet pretty hard and penetrated pretty deep into the wood as well. I don't know that I would push them to 50, but 40 and in would still be just fine
