See you can but the special weapon upgrade kit from 40k is awful for 40k since it comes with so many weapons to outfit an entire squad with the same one. Which is awful for 40k. Plus in 10th tactical squads suck ass, like major booty. Completely useless.
For more nobrainers, the Land Raider Proteus, Deimos Predator and Rhino are basically direct port overs if equipped with 40K weapons. Also Tactical Squads can be taken as Tactical Squads.

I use the Age of Darkness Box set as the basis for my CSM list. I like using Breachers as Posessed and giving them a Grey Knights polearm, because I really Really like the breacher model and the shield represents the additional toughness and the invulnerable save for me. Plus, the idea of ten dudes in MKIII carrying a polearm and a tower shield running full speed at the enemy is just funny to me.
I just use my 40k world eaters as 30k proxies. Nobody seems to complain and we just pretend were playing siege of terra era. I have a shitload of berzerkers and eightbound/exalted and just proxy them as ravagers or legionaires and use my hellbrutes as dreadnoughts. I would start a horus heresy WE army but it’s nearly impossible to get all the upgrade and legion bits for them without paying 2-5$ PER SINGLE PIECE on ebay since GW can’t be bothered to keep anything I want in stock. The only 30k models I have is 2 squads of red butchers because for whatever reason we don’t have WE specific terminators yet. I also kitbashed fabius bile into a berzerker surgeon/WE apothecary. Personally I think it makes more sense canonically to have 40k world eaters as 30k WE. They fell pretty quickly to khorne and I think it is very fitting for both games. But I never play competitively I just like to collect, build and paint and play when I can.
side note, breaches CAN be used as regular troops, ESPECIALLY when it makes sense, i run them as regular legios for my iron warriors which in lore LOVED these guys and use them regularly. just convey to your opponent that the shields do nothing
Lol, one of the first things I did when I got into space marines for 40K a couple months ago was get the age of darkness box set because I liked the beaky helmets. I proxy the two praetors as captains or lieutenants depending on what I need. I made and painted two squads of ten marines each, one I proxy as a tactical squad and the other as a hellblaster squad. I still haven’t decided what I’m gonna try and proxy the other twenty as yet since I have a huge pile of shame to work through. I also got some dark Angel 30k models I’m planning on proxying as blade guards.
The Contemptor is a bit awkward because it's bigger than a classic dread but smaller than a Redemptor. I would personally proxy a Leviathan with ranged weapons as a Redemptor. The Deimos Predators can possibly proxy as Gladiator tanks. The Land Raider Proteus and Spartan Assault tanks can both proxy as 40K land raiders, although it's a little awkward because the former is a little smaller and the latter is a little bigger. The Kratos can MAYBE proxy as a Repulsor Executioner (I'm not 100% sure about the size difference. I think the Kratos is a bit shorter overall) If we're going to use Mk4 as regular intercessors, then a squad with flamers can count as Infernus marines and a squad with plasma guns can count as Hellblasters I would personally kit the Mk3 marines with Rotor Cannons if I proxy them as Heavy Intercessors and melta guns for Eradicators (mix in Heavy Bolters and Multi-meltas for the heavy weapon options). They would also need to be mounted on a larger base
You could use breachers as sterngaurd veterans, also depending on your opponent you wouldn't be able to use heavier armour marks as heavy intercessors without changing the base size to a larger one and maybe bulking out the base a bit too so they stand taller
Some minor (personal) changes: Traitor Consul: Dark Apostle. Vigilator: Phobos Captain Tactical squads: exclusively as either 40k Tactical squads or Intercessors. Proxying them as anything else is confusing for everyone involved.

That means it is painted and i can see across the table what weapon it is. If its just a bunch of blue guys and all weapons are black and look the same then no.

A key thing abt proxy is for actual games is that you go bigger not smaller, proxying a redemptor as a contemptor would be a concern because the redemptor is closer to the levy dread in size.
Yeah, i'm doing this but rebasing it magnetically so I can swap it back and forth if the legends rules for contemptors ever get any better. They're the same height with a layer or two of cork and with the CML on top, and with the bigger base size, it should be easy enouth

I’ve been thinking about kitbashing those Forge World Salamander models and spreading the little detailed parts through my current Primaris Salamander army. Btw I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE but what color are Salamander Sergeants helmets? Same with captains and ancients and all that. I cannot find any official paint jobs anywhere and it’s increasingly frustrating. At the moment I have my sergeant painted with a black helmet and my ancient sergeant with a black helmet with a skull on it and a yellow stripe.
modern era Salamanders sergeants and captains have a white skull centred upon their helms, veteran sergeants have a white skull centred upon their helms and the icon of a crown of fire inscribed around the helm's circumference and lieutenants have a white stripe a white skull centred upon their helms. everything i wrote is in the warhammer40k fandom wiki
I personally use the upgrade kit on the 30k corvus armor Marines, just because I like binkies, and I call him whatever upgrade unit they have for 40K. 10 man unit of plasma guns they're now hellblasts. 10 of them with rocket launchers their devastator Marines.
Contemptor dread also have same base size as box dread. I used mine as proxy for Helbrute in CSM because im trying to play daemon-pure Night Lords and chaos dread got axed long time ago. I also proxied it as Daemon Prince sometimes in 9th (also still same base size). Flying dreadnought is pretty funny.
I turned MKVI marines into Legionaries. Added chaos bits from terminator and raptor boxes to make them chaosy. Plus the MKVI is still a drequently used armor in 40K meaning the MKVI is actuallt canon proper unlike the other power armor sets. Albeit some Liyalist chapters prefer using the old reliable armors after surviving the Heresy era. One example being the Imperial Fists which many of its members still use MKIII as it served them well during the heresy combined with their "iron is might" beliefs while betting their lives on it.

It makes it difficult to proxy too hard or work with what you have. Friends and people you play often are a different story. Horus Heresy marines are ever so slightly shorter than Primaris scale. So close that youd have to look at them at eye level to notice. I bought the Age of Darkness box set and had no plans for the marines: I was going to run an all Mark 3 Army. I took leftover intercessor bits and built an extra 20-ish intercessors.
In my headcanon those shorter "intercessors" became primaris after tbey where already space marines for some time and thus did not grow to the same height.
Now hear me out. What if you could, HYPOTHETICALLY, proxy a Leviathan Dreadnought as a Brutalis Dread. Sure, it isn’t entirely WYSIWYG, but if you kit it out with the claws, it could very easily fill that role.
I believe the only thing tht isn't WYSIWYG is the stubber on top. which I bet you could kitbash from something else. though I'd stick a magnet in it so you could remove it for heresy games.
Decent video, tho I think you can REALLY stretch proxys. Destroyers (with jump packs) could totally be ran as a sort of firstborn inceptors, same goes for moritats. Breachers just need an arm swap (magnetize whilst at it), and now they can be bladegaurd :) As long as your opponent is cool with it, you can easily go further. Magnetize the Leviathans arms for the ranged options, and it can squeeze into being a redemptor, ect enable dislikes btw, makes you look insecure ngl
because legends models do not get data sheet updates and most tournaments do not allow them due to them being severely unbalanced based off of the current best weapon choice
@incineration1166 They aren't allowed in most, but most people dont play in tournaments. And as for balancing purposes. Its not like they break the game. Sure, their rules dont change, but the points have. It's not as bad as people make it. My biggest point is people are making a big deal out of them when you should just be enjoying the hobby and play whatever models you want.
My guy, fix your audio balance. I say this to help. You have hard S's, points where you whisper to near inaudible levels, while overall being too soft.

I use the champion consul as my Emperor's Champion, because I dislike the Primaris one, but my old resin one is kinda tiny.
Counterpoint for the loyalist Librarian consul, proxy one as a garbage can, because that's where that kit belongs.

Heresy era salamander sergeants have a red line in the middle of their helmet and line officers(captains) have a fire effect on their forehead

It's more so that the rules for them will never get updated. So points, rules, weapons. If it's busted or weak, it'll stay that way.
