I would like to do this but I need to know what kits to buy? Iv never gotten into tho GW models I read the books and do WW2 models... I want to do this for display purposes but don't know where to start?
the trick is the fill the gaps of the cork with something, like puddy or paste, SOMETHING to fill it in. Then it can look like concrete, but if you just slap it on there, ya it doesnt work
I always loved the aesthetics of the Alpha Legion and the World Eaters, and your takes on them are just sublime, as were all of the other 16 Legions you represented. I love the glowing effect on the plasma pistol on the Ultramarine!
Eric, this video is so genius Ive watched it multiple times as inspiration. It’s an accessible level of kitbashing and I love that you even made the bases simple but unique.
Some really great techniques in these two vids that do a really great job of looking different than most common techniques, but also still keep to the "original" look of the Legions. Very cool!
I saw that $300 box of Horus Heresy and was like "NOPE" but now..... now I think I need it. The first one and this second video are some of the best mini painting videos I have ever seen, it is quick, to the point, tons of tips and tricks, tons of tried and true methods, just amazing.
I'm not sold on the box at all; it's the paint schemes and basing that I could use on models I already have that got me. If you really want to play horus Heresy you could pick up older models, kitbash, paint and proxy them up (like what Eric did using the flamethrower with the salamander)
The Age of Darkness box is such good value. Even for a 40k player. Im building most of my 40k alpha legion army out of it.. aswell as using them for HH. It's literally like. 2k points 40k army for 250-300 USD
I just want to say, your showing of mistakes and errors has brought a serious relief to me. I love painting and have fun planning my paint schemes. Its just nice to see a UA-camr "Show cracks" so to speak. Make's high end painting feel obtainable.
I just wanted to tell you that you are by far my Favourite Hoobyist on UA-cam and inspiried me to build a diorama of my white scars successors with your last video
I came here from part 1 and I'm blown away by your skill and expertise. Really. I'm in full JFK mode, mind blown. As someone who has NEVER had any interest in the tabletop game whatsoever, but loves the lore books and other media, I'll admit that your videos are making me itch to pick up a small (entry level?) set and get to work painting my very own models. I enjoyed painting and assembling model cars when I was younger but the challenge and detail you're able to bring to each piece is utterly astounding. Bravo, good sir, bravo!
this video got me into the hobby. This is the perfect showcase of how creative this hobby can be. I've been interested in playing Warhammer for years now, but had no interest in the painting side of the hobby because I assumed it was just about coloring inside the lines. Watching this I now know this is a legitimate way to express yourself and let your creativity flourish. Thanks Eric for being the catalyst for me to make the leap!
Looked through the comments to see if anyone else had mentioned it but couldn't find a mention of it: Both the World Eaters and Ultramarines are marked as the XII '12th' legion on their title card on the video and in the video chapters. Not really an issue but i know if it was my video it would bug me enough to fix it! Anyway awesome work, loved both videos.
You can air brush contrast paints just so you know if you don’t have clear inks to do what Eric did in this video. I generally just add a bit of medium to it. And do not use panel liner on Matte varnish it clings vs gloss an Satin
You've got to build a display diorama for these legion models now. Maybe the steps of the emperor's throne with an emperor model overlooking his son's?
I would like to add on the topic of MK6 being called “Corvus” is because the Raven Guard were the first legion to battle with MK6 armor during the heresy. Which is one of the reason many Raven Guard members stick with a Corvus Armor helmets
From your collection there I think my favorites are the DA, SoH, WB and NL. The basing on them is also fitting for each one. Great project, very fun to watch!
I'd recommend using make-up sponges rather than q-tips for the oil wash just because they are less likely to leave behind any fibers, past that great video, always great to see all the legions getting some love
As a follow up, it would be cool to see a reverse setting, cant remember the name of it but its a fan lore of an alternate universe in which the loyalists were the traitors and the traitors were loyalists. it would be a cool look at some fan universe ideas and some converting
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop yes thats the one, tbf so am i but i just thought it would be a cool idea, though maybe not to the scale of the 18 legions you did here, that would be loads of work im sure
My favorites are World Eaters and Death Guard, but they are all amazingly unique and well executed. Hilarious doing the Ultramarines exactly to the instructions 😄
Your salamander looks amazing! The only thing I'd say is you did the lava colours inverted :) the yellow is in the center, and red at the sides - the rock is literally cool lava and red is the coolest colour
I have seen reference images that contradict what you are saying. I think probably because the center part stays relatively stationary as it flows and cools but the edges are constantly moving and churning with the hotter lava beneath
I think the reason that two space marine chapters are missing is so that the people playing the table top can create their own chapter, two make it so one can be loyalist or one can be chaos, and so that two unique chapter can fight in the table top.
This is a great video that has helped me choose which legion I'd like to start with. Only tiny mistake I could see was the Ultramarine's chapter XII should be XIII
the space wolf and thousand son standing off against each other is so funny. the thousand son is raising his hand and the wolf is just sorta like “haw?”
Great video, both videos were awesome. Not sure if you already picked a legion but you could go on and paint a praetor, or a dread, of those factions you like the most but you still can't decide
Love these videos pro tip tho it is very important to thin your paints although it might not seem like it, it really helps with making details look sharper
I want To kitbash a troop of Iron Hands vs Iron Warriors. And adding a White and orange Hazard stripes detail to the Iron Hands to offset the warriors.
Your Salamander looks amazing, they all look good, but based on your Salamander I would go for these guys, also pretty much the opposite of your 40k Night Lords.
The Word Bearers you should first paint grey armor. Red and black for all legion were taken after battle of Calth. Only Gal-Vorbak formation was red at the start of HH. And where you have Luna Wolves marine ?
Really enjoyed your video. Great choice of bits ;) mould line on Heresy pauldron hurts me every time i see it, but it is great and easy job nevertheless
I loved it but if i may suggest an improvement, a really simple one, is to pay attention to those mold lines before painting cause zooming on them in 1080p once painted makes me jump of my seat each times while it just take so little time to fix it at the start. Will you do some series for houses, fleets, dynasties, hives and such for some xeno armies too?
I like all of these, my legion(s), because I can't decide... are space wolves, salamanders, and raven guard, i'm definitely going to use this video as a recipe guide.
Dude I was going to link you to your short about George Martin as a joke to tell you we want titan content but the truth is any content is good content. Thanks Eric
These are just,,,, so good i WISH i had a quarter of the skill you have!!! All of these guys look so good (even the Word Bearers, who are my least fav legion in this vid but that color scheme is makin me think twice about them tbh)
He painted the sons of Horus legion but u could also do their pre heresy colours and name the luna wolves Lupercal was there battle cry as that’s Horus’s surname

16:30 Sorry that Oblits and Night Lords are both sub par in the new dex, at least chaos marines are good now huh?
I got in on these! Can't wait to bring my Tzeentch loyal Chaos Marines some much needed reinforcement!
I would like to do this but I need to know what kits to buy? Iv never gotten into tho GW models I read the books and do WW2 models... I want to do this for display purposes but don't know where to start?
The marble effect is class, and also love the Salamander lava base you got without having to use raised cork platforms.
Cork is my pet peeve lol. I have never seen a material - concrete, rock, soil, whatever, that looks like cork at scale
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop thank you! Everyone at my LGS side-eyes me when I politely balk at their suggestion that I use cork on my bases.
The marble effect got me to appreciate and respect this hobby even more
I feel it has to be the right cork to work, there are a few that are close to the texture of a dry cement.
the trick is the fill the gaps of the cork with something, like puddy or paste, SOMETHING to fill it in. Then it can look like concrete, but if you just slap it on there, ya it doesnt work
I always loved the aesthetics of the Alpha Legion and the World Eaters, and your takes on them are just sublime, as were all of the other 16 Legions you represented. I love the glowing effect on the plasma pistol on the Ultramarine!

saw it for $260 :) also way cheaper than buying any of it piecemeal
£180 in its native country where I am
I'm not sold on the box at all; it's the paint schemes and basing that I could use on models I already have that got me. If you really want to play horus Heresy you could pick up older models, kitbash, paint and proxy them up (like what Eric did using the flamethrower with the salamander)

That Marble effect with the cloth! I was like there's no way that's gonna look good-WAIT.
The blood splatter technique was so simple and basic yet it did miracles to the model, genius
Love that Death Guard marine! Would love to see your take on a Plaguecaster or Plague Surgeon
personally love the white scar design you created, best of a great bunch
Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy these types of videos! I dont paint play or collect I simply enjoy watching you guys do it all and it amazes me!
You can air brush contrast paints just so you know if you don’t have clear inks to do what Eric did in this video. I generally just add a bit of medium to it. And do not use panel liner on Matte varnish it clings vs gloss an Satin
Incredible painting, techniques and music choices yet again!
Totally agree! If only we could have a list with all the titles!! :D
Great job on the 18 Legions. All they need now is their Legion Emblem on their pauldrons.
You've got to build a display diorama for these legion models now. Maybe the steps of the emperor's throne with an emperor model overlooking his son's?

Normally I really dig how crisp White Scars turn out, but that World Eater was crazy cool
Love how the world eater has nothing but a chain axe.
3:48 That is the newest looking old toothbrush I have ever seen
Sounds like you need to replace your toothbrush dude
I'd recommend using make-up sponges rather than q-tips for the oil wash just because they are less likely to leave behind any fibers, past that great video, always great to see all the legions getting some love
The last two were the coolest. Alpha legion was really cool 😎
Very nice work 👍. I wish I had this during my modeling days back mid 80's
As a follow up, it would be cool to see a reverse setting, cant remember the name of it but its a fan lore of an alternate universe in which the loyalists were the traitors and the traitors were loyalists. it would be a cool look at some fan universe ideas and some converting
Dornian Heresy? I am only dimly aware of that
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop yes thats the one, tbf so am i but i just thought it would be a cool idea, though maybe not to the scale of the 18 legions you did here, that would be loads of work im sure
Very well done, Eric. Lots of inspiration, thank you. But now: Back to the titan!
Tonite on Hobby Worshop Gear: Hammond takes on the butchers nails, James becomes Ferrus Manus and I wish I could paint like that.
That tooth brush technique for the blood splatter is brilliant.
Brilliant second course, now even more undecided!
I love the spawn reference for the thousand sons
My favorites are World Eaters and Death Guard, but they are all amazingly unique and well executed. Hilarious doing the Ultramarines exactly to the instructions 😄
MARBLE EFFECT IS AWESOME

They all look great, but that Salamander is just phenomenal. Kinda tempts me to make another Marine army.
They all look so cool! Hopefully I can paint that good eventually 😅
The stalin joke is hilarious.
When he said Aquila on the alpha legion bit, my mind said
WUT
A great result with simple stuff 🔥
I think the reason that two space marine chapters are missing is so that the people playing the table top can create their own chapter, two make it so one can be loyalist or one can be chaos, and so that two unique chapter can fight in the table top.
I caught myself mumbling "holy shit that's cool". Very impressive!
That Salamander is straight FIRE! (Pun intended! 😅😁)
This is a great video that has helped me choose which legion I'd like to start with.
Only tiny mistake I could see was the Ultramarine's chapter XII should be XIII
wow mini-wargaming, what a throwback
Those pre-Heresy World Eaters are pretty damn cool! I'm actually thinking about those, now... Make a Kill Team... Hmmm...
The World Eaters didn’t “fall to chaos” it was more of a gentle step down.
the space wolf and thousand son standing off against each other is so funny. the thousand son is raising his hand and the wolf is just sorta like “haw?”
God Salamanders are so cool, my second favorite just below Lamenters
Yeah the Salamander looks incredible
Some of the legions had colors before the ones we know like the Dusk Raiders and Imperial Heralds. You should do those color schemes too
Superb 2nd part Eric.
Marvelous, bloody brilliant 👏
Waiting to get my 3 set of horus heresy and heavy weapon and spec weapon, to rebuild my current salamanders as a 30k force
Great video, both videos were awesome.
Not sure if you already picked a legion but you could go on and paint a praetor, or a dread, of those factions you like the most but you still can't decide
Your hilarious asides and amazing music, as well as a top notch lore summary just earned you a sub my dude!
Right on!!
This project was fantastic. What a great 2-part series!
10:20 I didn't know Tony Stark was part of the Thousand Sons
😂 Jarvis, block all astropathic messages with “Nikea” in the subject line
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop while I have your attention, the bases especially the marble and lava are so impressive!
I love the old world Eaters Colours, I plan on mixing the usual Khorne red silver and gold with some of those white and blue ones on my army.
That being said though your salamanders look amazing
This video was a masterclass in UA-camry. Well done!
Love the Death Guard one.
Awesome work! Thank you for these videos!
That lava base is fire
Those salamanders bases are insane
I was really happy with that too!!
Wow, great job on everything but that volcanic base takes the prize!
Your Salamander looks amazing, they all look good, but based on your Salamander I would go for these guys, also pretty much the opposite of your 40k Night Lords.
Amazing work Eric! Love the amount of work you’ve put into these videos!
definitely biased, but I think your white scar is the best of the batch! love the death guard too
Man, what an amazing, fun video tolearn from the different legions and to learn nice techniques! ongrats buddy, you have a new subscriber from now on!
The Word Bearers you should first paint grey armor. Red and black for all legion were taken after battle of Calth. Only Gal-Vorbak formation was red at the start of HH.
And where you have Luna Wolves marine ?
I didn’t know that the word ultramarine is just a huge pun like that was unexpected still was some fun love the video btw
I have chosen Alpha Legion. thanks for the awesome Paint jobs and lore recap :)
Really enjoyed your video. Great choice of bits ;)
mould line on Heresy pauldron hurts me every time i see it, but it is great and easy job nevertheless
1:48 hmmm yes, the heres heresy
my favorite 40k moment
I loved it but if i may suggest an improvement, a really simple one, is to pay attention to those mold lines before painting cause zooming on them in 1080p once painted makes me jump of my seat each times while it just take so little time to fix it at the start.
Will you do some series for houses, fleets, dynasties, hives and such for some xeno armies too?
Please do every guardsman regiment or like just the popular ones
I like all of these, my legion(s), because I can't decide... are space wolves, salamanders, and raven guard, i'm definitely going to use this video as a recipe guide.
this was such a cool idea
this series has been incredible and a huge motivator. what fluorescent paint was that that u used for the ultramarines plasma gun?
Vallejo flourescent green i think
Dude I was going to link you to your short about George Martin as a joke to tell you we want titan content but the truth is any content is good content. Thanks Eric
Need a follow up with the Luna Wolves
This was a fantastic two part series, great work!
Loved it all, though it did drive me nuts that the ultramarine didn’t get a shoulder decal, lol.
These are just,,,, so good i WISH i had a quarter of the skill you have!!! All of these guys look so good (even the Word Bearers, who are my least fav legion in this vid but that color scheme is makin me think twice about them tbh)
You really gave them character, with both conversion and paint job! 🤓
dude the salamander is insane holy shit
Brilliant videos mate.
He painted the sons of Horus legion but u could also do their pre heresy colours and name the luna wolves Lupercal was there battle cry as that’s Horus’s surname
Nicely done!!!!
As an Alpha Legion connoisseur I have to admit, the Word Bearer, Salamander(mostly base and head) and the Ultramarine's base absolutely FUCK
I wish Raven guard actually had an interesting colour scheme
Love this series
Would love to see you paint the primarchs aswell but I know that would be a big task lol.
Hahaha if GW send me all of em for free I’ll give it a shot!
