Over the 67 years of my life many pistols have "come and gone," except for the little Sig. No matter what other pistol I purchase my P238 is the carry pistol I always return to. Great sights and ergonomics for such a tiny handgun. Extremely fast for me to acquire target, and then stay on target due to low recoil. I use 90 grain "Precision One" ammunition with "Hornaday XPT" hollow point bullets. Under controlled get testing this ammo produced 9mm results, meeting all FBI ballistic requirements. (not a commercial, please use the ammunition of your choice.) Build quality is impeccable and reliability is excellent. i would recommend this pistol, without hesitation, to anyone looking for a first class carry pistol. I would also mention I prefer the P238 over the P938 due to less recoil. I am a believer in accuracy over bullet weight. Thank you for all your great reviews. Have a great day Sir.
@@Terminxman This is a great gun, for sure. I had a LCP before, and I hated that plastic garbage. Couldn't hit the ground with that thing. This feels so solid, and just super accurate. One of my favorites.
On thing not mentioned is a BIG safety feature and that is the firing pin will not reach the primer unless the trigger is pulled. It is otherwise blocked from going forward. If the hammer should fall for some reason, the firing pin will not move!!!
I have this gun and it is awesome. I carry it everyday. 300 rounds so far and not a single misfire. I literally can't find anything bad to say about it. Great review!!
I love my little 238. Carry a lot to grocery or drug store gas station just about anywhere. Extended mag with 7 And 1 chambered with defense ammo. Accurate at 5 to 10 yards. What's not to like.
That new flat recoil spring is coming in all of the current P238's. I bought mine in 2009 and it came with that standard-type spring and a card came with the gun that said it was only good for around 1000 rounds before it needed replacement. Sig sent me one of the new flat springs for free and said there was no numbered limit on the new spring. The never magazines also have an anti-tilt follower and won't cause feeding problems like the old P238 mags. Sig also replaced all of my magazines for free. Sig has great customer service.
Hey, P238 owners. I just discovered that a Springfield 911 (380) 7-round mag fits and functions perfectly in my P238 and costs LOT less than a Sig mag.
The difference in price is only about $10.00. If you're going to pay the high price for a P238, the extra cost for trouble free factory mags shouldn't be an issue. I would never use non factory parts in a firearm for the very reason of why they exist, which is to keep you alive.
Thanks you very for this info. So, is it 100% interchangeable, including the slide locking back at the end of the last shot? I got some Metalform cause they claim it's interchangeable but I'm now finding out it's not. To start with it jams and the slide doesn't lock at the end of the last shot.

I've had my P238 for awhile now and want to thank you for pointing out how charging the pistol is made safer by being able to manipulate the slide with the safety on. I'd seen it but didn't even think of that. I'm an instructor and am always looking to make procedures even safer than they already are. Thank you! ❤
I have been looking for a small concealed carry and have decided that the quality is more important than the price. After this demonstration, I am searching for the SIG P238. If you take suggestions, the only thing I can think of is that you don't always say how far away your targets are so I didn't always understand how difficult and accurate your shooting is. Thank you.
@xiuyuansean, Good one! It's not easy to keep track of what they are doing when they are locked away in there in the dark so much of the time. Can't really blame them; it must get rather boring in there.

It's a great gun to own and I highly recommend those of you who are looking for a little pocket pistol, buy this gun. The only thing I also own which Hickock45 didn't have available is the extended 7 round magazine with a pinky finger support. I own 3 of those mag's. GREAT GUN!😊
Mr.Hickock45, I was surprised and sorry to hear you say Kahr p380 is your favorite micro gun. For years it was for me also, until last nite (10/29/2019) during my CCW class at the range somehow when I shot the gun, it blew the magazine down from the gun and it looks like it literately disassemble it. All the RSOs that saw it happen made a statement that they never saw anything like that. Then it started jamming on me. I was torn & in disbelief, for years I relied my and family lives on this gun cause it was my #1 carry gun. I just couldn't imagine if this would have happened in a real scenario. Also, had Kahr .40 S&W that I have put away in my the deepest and darkest part of my vault because inspite it has been sent and returned from repair, it continues to jam on me. I have seen this guns mostly the Kahr 9mm in the range that seem to have the same problem. These Kahrs I have will be going back to the company for repairs but I'm not sure if I will ever trust my life anymore with these guns. This is the reason I'm watching this video for this Sig 238 cause I'm in the market of getting this gun. I don't mine the price, as long as I can rely on this gun withr my life. and family. Pls continue the good job.
@hickok45 Long time fan, first time post. You a valuable asset to firearm enthusiasts for your informed reviews and shoots. You have steered me and my friends in the right direction when looking to make a firearms purchase. THANKS AGAIN! You made the p238 look good.
Just bought one a couple weeks ago. Love this pistol, very compact, easy to conceal, lightweight and amazingly accurate!! Carry this gun with me all the time.
Thank you Hickok, I just got a Sig P238 a week ago. Due to the ammo shortage and many other current events, I probably won’t shoot for another year. I have enough ammo to keep us fed or safe for awhile. (Not going to stress over it.)
A phenomenal HIGH CONCEALMENT carry option. The 1911/single action situation might be an issue for some ppl. As well as the very slight added weight. As far as SA safety goes: I believe that's been thoroughly debunked. As far as manipulating that safety; easy. Training, training, training. I prefer that SA trigger in a pocket pistol. As you can see the accuracy is incredible in this tiny tiny gun. Also perhaps my favorite aspect of mine is the damn thing eats up anything.
Getting ready to purchase the P238 for my carry gun, thank you for helping me with my decision. I always watch your unbiased videos before I make a purchase. Can always count on the truth, thank you
Just picked the Sig up today. I usually check hickok45 before I buy but not this time. It was love at first sight. It just feels right in the hand. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but this video makes me feel even better about buying this pistol. You are the best reviewer on UA-cam hands down.,
I have to tell you sir, your videos finally made me 'pull the trigger' (pun intended) and get a little Sig P238. Picked it up, cleaned and lubricated it before putting about 400 rounds through it and all I can say is I agree with your assessment...its a great little gun! I'm waiting on some Federal HST rounds to arrive before I try out the hollows on it but so far, I'm really impressed with it.
The safety recall is for early production models. Sig lists what the serial number begins with. If your P238 does not fall within that series you have nothing to worry about. Check it out for yourselves. Thanks for the great vids Hickock.
Had mine for probably two years and not one failure. From what I've seen by others, they have had the same experience as me so rather than call yours a POS maybe have Sig work with you to correct an apparent issue with the one you have. ANYTHING mass produced can be subject to a flaw. It's likely that simply a different magazine might fix your issue.
My Nephew and I have enjoyed a number of your Videos and want to thank you. We have a continuing guesstamation argument going. What are the distances on your range? thanks!
The gong is about 80 yards out, the "livestock" about 50-60 yards, and the cowboy, tombstone, and various plates to the left typically about 15-20 yards depending on where he stands.
I’ve had my P238 SAS for around 3 years and have put over 1,000 rounds through it with no malfunctions. The P238 is a wonderful little gun and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a reliable carry gun that is incredibly easy to shoot, to maintain, and is also very comfortable to carry.
Bought the P238 SAS for wife as her CC weapon, we both love that little guy. My favorite aspect of the gun is being able to rack the slide while the safety is on. I sometimes carry it in the summer when wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Thanks for the great review.
It's not the slide, it's the hammer the safety locks [on mine at least]. When hammer is up and safe is on, slide is locked [hammer will move only about 40%]. Hammer down and safe on, you can manipulate the slide with safety engaged.
Great video Hickok45, Thanks for not "over producing" the videos you & John make,Guess Im old school & don't care to much for the music & effects others feel the need to throw in their videos, how ever at the end when you do the replay in slow motion,it always cracks me up when you laugh! Keep up the good work Guys.
Love my Sig P238 for conceal carry... Equinox... Best conceal carry on market... Loved it so much I bought the Rainbow... Which just sits in the safe... Very cool finish. Can't say enough good things about it... Better than LCP or SW Body Guard.
all those sugar soda leaking all over the place. Do you have to spray for ants ever? :) I want a 238 as my next pistol. I might even sell my Glock G30 for one. (probably have to add some cash to that deal tho)
Got my early mother's day gift from the hubby today. I haven't fired it yet but I love the grip & based on your video & my husband's trip to the range using it, i'm convinced that i'll be happier to carry this than my original fave Springfield XD9 Mod2.
I bought the P238 and later went back bought a P938 (9mm) to go with it. Both are great shooters and very reliable. The 938 is just a tad larger than the 238. I carry the 238 in my front pocket - the 938, too, sometimes.
Hickok45, the last of the great 2-liter killers! Looks like a sweet li'l piece, yet another on the ever-growing list to lust for. `Preciate the introduction to it...

Truly maybe the finest gun I have ever owned. Beautiful craftsmanship. Except mine came with Hogue grips. Went to rosewood...slim and beautiful. Truly built like a Swiss watch...you get what you pay for. I has NEVER failed. I will trust my life to this.
ALWAYS love your videos. The Equinox is next on my list!!! Will collect a few other P238's to boot in the near future. Pocket/Super-conceal carry rules!!!
7:15 that is a neat feature. my wife doesn’t like the feel of a double action trigger and she likes to have a safety. you mentioned it’s a heavier trigger pull and that’s her main gripe about it but it probably is the feel of the longer trigger pull which bothers her. but that’s a neat added feature that i can have the safety on and have the hammer down and be able to cock it back without risking a hammer strike especially for someone who decidedly doesn’t like double action and who is going to use the safety every time you can still safely have one in the chamber
I bought the P238 a month and it is a great pistol. Sig also offers an extended magazine which allows the pinky finger to wrap around for a better grip. I love the trigger pull on this over most of the other pocket size 380s. Kel-Tec's has a REALLY long pull, which I hate. The P238 is smooth, just like a full size 1911. I've put over 500 rounds through the Sig without one jam or problem. Very accurate too. Little pricey, but worth every penny.
Love my P238. Low recoil, very shootable, easily concealed. Accurate for a 2.7 barreled gun. Extended mag allows one more rd but allows for a place for your pinky...
I have had 2 P-238's--fantastic merchandise! I wish I had never sold my Rose Gold 238.. Great guns--do you part and it will do it's part--awesome pocket carry!
excellent review and nice shooting.. I have one and it performs flawlessly--and it does shoot high at longer ranges. People say the .380 is inadequate--I wouldn't want to get hit by one. A perfect pocket pistol--I use the extended clip for a total of 8 shots. A quality piece.
Great vid, I liked it a lot and concur with everything you stated about this gun. I own two Sig Sourer P238s (.380) and various other handguns. I purchased the first P238 for my wife as she loved the ease in racking this gun it also had a great laser, easy to use and keep concealed. She actually shoots without the laser quite often and is able to get groupings of 4 in spreads for someone who has never shot more than 500 rounds in her entire life, that speaks to the capability of this gun.
The Bersa Thunder 380 is also an excellent concealed carry firearm, accurate, well made from quality materials, reliable and about half the price of that beautiful Sig 380. It comes with a lifetime warranty. The Bersa 380 is modeled after the Walther PPK, and is made in Argentina.
Have had the P238 Rosewood for a while now. Excellent CW and also fun to shoot. No problems at all. Ammo availability has improved a bit. The p938 has been deemed compliant in my state and I expect to purchase one when available in December. I continue to find your videos very interesting. Your enthusiasm is fun to watch.
I just bought a P238 all stainless model. The barrel is black but might just be coated stainless. If my safety is on the slide will not move and the trigger is locked even when cocked. I think I am going to really like this little pistol. It might even replace my EDC Beretta 21A. I might just carry both because the Beretta is double action. After all I have two hands. You always have great reviews. Keep up the good work.
I just got through seeing my dad, whom has this P238. He swears all up & down it is an automatic pistol. I tried to tell him that even it said 380 Auto, it is not automatic, that one has to pull the trigger each time. He swears that as soon as that round is in the chamber, it will fire, and keep firing until the mag is empty & he just holds down the trigger one time. Other than that, I tried to clean his gun. It is tricky, glad that you showed how to disassemble and reassemble the pistol.
Excellent video. I just bought this today after comparing with several for small, pocket carry. Didn't find this video--and your other comparison video--until after I purchased. Looks like I made the right choice. Thanks for the detailed information.

Just picked the Sig up today. I usually check hickok45 before I buy but not this time. It was love at first sight. It just feels right in the hand. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but this video makes me feel even better about buying this pistol. You are the best reviewer on UA-cam hands down.,
Love your vids, I also like how you laugh everytime you shoot the soda bottles lol. Keep it up
I love that he gets so much of a kick out of it too.
There are only 2 pistols, that I own, that I've never had an issue with. The P238 and the Bersa 380. Love them both.
Robert Bennett I have those same pistols. Love em both too!
@FyreFox94, Yeah, I used to have one, as well as a .375 H&H. I talk about them in an early radio show. They were fun.
“It had an off spring overnight” 😂😂😂😂
The safety recall is for early production models. Sig lists what the serial number begins with. If your P238 does not fall within that series you have nothing to worry about. Check it out for yourselves. Thanks for the great vids Hickock.
Can you see it?
My hand hidded it.
"Kentucky grammer."
This is my first time watching you, SUBSCRIBED! Love the way you explain every detail!! Thank you 😊
the P238 just disappears in Hickok's big basketball hands lol
Goran Jordanov 😂
@survifall, Yeah. How the 556th video relates to an AR video would be a good pop quiz question for new shooters. :-)
LOVE THE SIG P238!!!!! QUALITY GUN!!!
+JnJ Outdoors very true... I owned an old Colt Pocketlite and the P238 was like Deja Vu for me. So glad I bought it.
Had mine for probably two years and not one failure. From what I've seen by others, they have had the same experience as me so rather than call yours a POS maybe have Sig work with you to correct an apparent issue with the one you have. ANYTHING mass produced can be subject to a flaw. It's likely that simply a different magazine might fix your issue.
diesel mutt88 It sounds like it might be an ammunition problem....
diesel mutt88 Oops, sorry, it was to that guy above, lol
@MayDog961, Yeah, I discovered myself that I had to push the ejector down in order to get the slide back on.
Very common. Thanks Hickock
0:03 You must be a grandpa with those cheesy magic tricks
I really love my P238, I carry mine in a Don Hume pocket holster, great fit and comfy. Great vid as always! Keep up the great vids!
My Nephew and I have enjoyed a number of your Videos and want to thank you. We have a continuing guesstamation argument going. What are the distances on your range?
thanks!
See FAQ videos.
The gong is about 80 yards out, the "livestock" about 50-60 yards, and the cowboy, tombstone, and various plates to the left typically about 15-20 yards depending on where he stands.
+Michael Richey I was wondering about the distances as well. Thank You, Michael, for letting us know.
Love your channel!
Bought the P238 SAS for wife as her CC weapon, we both love that little guy. My favorite aspect of the gun is being able to rack the slide while the safety is on. I sometimes carry it in the summer when wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
Thanks for the great review.
On the newer P238's, the slide does lock when the safety is engaged.
I don't think this is true. I got a new one today and the slide does not lock.
It's not the slide, it's the hammer the safety locks [on mine at least]. When hammer is up and safe is on, slide is locked [hammer will move only about 40%]. Hammer down and safe on, you can manipulate the slide with safety engaged.
No.
"And as you know...
Life is good."
Love my Sig P238 for conceal carry... Equinox... Best conceal carry on market... Loved it so much I bought the Rainbow... Which just sits in the safe... Very cool finish. Can't say enough good things about it... Better than LCP or SW Body Guard.
Still waiting on that mustang xsp review.... Shoot one. You'll love it.
I'm ever since I started watching this channel, it's my go to. I have since bought a colt 1911 and just ordered a p238
all those sugar soda leaking all over the place. Do you have to spray for ants ever? :)
I want a 238 as my next pistol. I might even sell my Glock G30 for one. (probably have to add some cash to that deal tho)
One of the best reviews I've seen. Thank you.
can you do the Sig P227 nitron review
Got my early mother's day gift from the hubby today. I haven't fired it yet but I love the grip & based on your video & my husband's trip to the range using it, i'm convinced that i'll be happier to carry this than my original fave Springfield XD9 Mod2.
I want this!
nopotato Kat
Kahr barrel removal
I bought the P238 and later went back bought a P938 (9mm) to go with it. Both are great shooters and very reliable. The 938 is just a tad larger than the 238. I carry the 238 in my front pocket - the 938, too, sometimes.
Which one do you prefer shooting more?
@@nvhighroller21 - not sure, I take both to the range. Both are good shooters. In my pocket, I carry the 238.
What would you buy if you had to choose between these CC guns......Sig p238, Glock 42 or the Bersa Thunder? Thanks much!
+bristocks1 Glock 42
+Brooklyn Forge Thats what I was leaning towards. Dont think the P238 is worth the $200 more or so.
+bristocks1 Beretta Pico
+Randy Fugate Why the Pico? I heard that the Sig P238 and G-42 were 2 of the best compact CC guns.
sig p238 has a metal frame instead of polymer its more durable in my opinion
Hickok45, the last of the great 2-liter killers!
Looks like a sweet li'l piece, yet another on the ever-growing list to lust for.
`Preciate the introduction to it...
I got shot with one of these
Did it stop you
Ryan Donahue,
Your comment is under appreciated.
Did it hurt..
With all due respect I think you could provide a unique perspective and review on this gun that most people "fortunately" will never experience...
2/26/19.had it 4 --2 yrs now..shoots gret, carries well jacket pocket or pats or holster.didn,y care nmuch for sig,s holster.kept popping up and out .needs a ten rnd. mag.more ammo and a much better purchase.. have 2 10 rndr,s 4 the m&p b.g.,work really well..238 worth the $$$ multiple colors and styles..solid, easy to grab.. no buyers remorse here..t hanks for the review Hickok.. carlb
My wife loves her 238. The slide pin has popped out twice. Sig sent me a new one. Time will tell. Great sites and easy for her to pull back the slide.
Just noticed you were reading comments and want to say that I really enjoy the content you and your son produce.
Truly maybe the finest gun I have ever owned. Beautiful craftsmanship. Except mine came with Hogue grips. Went to rosewood...slim and beautiful. Truly built like a Swiss watch...you get what you pay for. I has NEVER failed. I will trust my life to this.
IT has never failed.
Always the best reviews here. The best part of this one...the slow-mo at the end...listen for the laugh. Classic.
I own one myself and love the 1911 platform. Shoots great with many types of ammyo and I highly recommend it!! Light as a feather too
ALWAYS love your videos.
@PapaGlock83, They are thinking it will not ship until around March, but I might be able to get one before then.
I bought a Sig P238 second hand from my pastor with a Crimson Trace on it. $400. And I love it.
Wife has one. Not a range gun but we shoot it a lot and we both love it. Very reliable.
I'm going to go take a look at one of these tomorrow, and I'm boing to try to get my wife to come along too. Great video, thanks again, Sir!
Have had the P238 Rosewood for a while now. Excellent CW and also fun to shoot. No problems at all. Ammo availability has improved a bit. The p938 has been deemed compliant in my state and I expect to purchase
one when available in December.
@wlballa, They are going to send me one as soon as they start coming in. I've been in communication with them this week.
