@@ClergetMusic I recently got my sig p226 40s&w for 525 in like new condition!!! I have put a few hundred rounds so far I'm in love, but I've only had or about a week!!!
I realize this an older video from 2011. As an owner of a p229 in 40 S&w, I really like this video. I bought my p229 from Buds in Lexington Ky and it has been a real nice shooting and utterly reliable handgun. I am old guy and for most of my life if I had to pick one handgun to bet my life on, it was a 1911. I have shot almost everything out there at one occasion or another. The one gun that changed my mind, after decades of such thought, was the Sig p229. This may not be the best gun for you, but it is worthy of consideration.
I'm young and just bought a 229 today. I even plan on carrying it once I get more familiar with it. It's the only pistol that was ever comfortable to hold for me. The weight is a plus because the recoil is less. And damn is this machine accurate. Also the 1911 platform is amazing. Makes me feel like it will never go off by accident.
Police here in my country (Sweden) have used SIG Sauer pistols since the mid 1980s, and they're very happy with them. Currently, the most common models used are the P226, P239 and the P229 (most of the P228's were phased out shortly before 2012, but a few still remain in service). Personally, I'd really want a P228. The ammo used here is the SPEER Gold Dot (hollow points).
Excellent pistol! My first pistol in 2001 was the SIG 229. Never regretted the decision. His concern on th grip can be addressed either with the new E2 grips or the Hogue machined aluminum; both lreduce the grip to bore distance
FYI: The P229 was originally chambered for the .357 SIG, which was developed at the request of the US Secret Service, who were not happy with the performance of their 9mm SIG P228s. The P229 in .40 caliber came shortly after.
I have had the Sig P220 and P229. Both were my duty weapon and my EDC for many years. I love the DA/SA feature. I handled my weapon frequently. I was a department instructor and armour. As Hickok mentions right off it is a matter of getting use to the DA to SA feature. I started my career with a Smith 686 so that first trigger pull on the Sig was not a problem and still is not. Without a doubt the Sig has been my favorite platform and most reliable. Thousands of rounds with few hiccups. I like the solid and heavier feel. The gun is as accurate as the shooter. I taught my wife and daughter to shoot with the P229. Both are good with it and had no problem with the DA/SA feature. Wife now has a Walther PPS. Lots of good firearms out there these days. If it feels good in your hand and is pleasing to your eye you will probably shoot it and work at getting proficient with it. I looking forward to trying a Glock 43.
I almost bought the new P320........but something wasn't right about it that i couldn't figure out ! Then i i finally figured and found out ! Its a striker fire pistol without the safety feature of that long and heavy poundage DA first trigger pull ! I'm not comfortable with that vulnerable trigger even though it's fantastic to use during your shooting drills ! I currently have this P229 40. cal on layaway ; $699 factory refurbished. Not a scratch on it inside or out ! Two 12 round mags. All pristine condition ! E2 grips. All my Sigs were bought "Factory Refurbished ." They were a tremendous saveings of many $100's of dollars !! They are the P 220 full size Stainless Steel ,P220 compact,P2022 ,P226,P290RS subcompact, and now this P229 on layaway.9 MM, 40.cal, and of course,my favorite cal., 45 ACP ! All of them in pristine condition !! I LOVE all of my sweet baby Sigs like a first love in the back seat of my ole' 1973 Camero !!
The p320 does not have a heavy poundage first pull at all. It's a very light weight very consistent trigger pull that is the same every shot with no ability to change it. It is possible that like many people you may haveistook the p250 for the p320, cause the p250 is a true double action every shot pistol, whereas the p320 is a single action only striker fired!!!
Hmm. Cocked hammer, in the holster, then fingers over the barrel? I love the p229. I'd trust my life to it ANY DAY of the week, and twice on sunday. BEST decocker in the business.
I love this guy, but you can't criticize a DA/SA pistol for having a DA/SA trigger and you can't criticize a metal gun for being heavier than a plastic gun.
Transition from double action to single action is not an issue. 99% of the time you're assailant is within 5 feet of you. If you miss at that distance you shouldn't be carrying a gun.
Funny thing is, the DA/SA feature on this gun is my favorite thing about it!! Lmao!!! That just goes to show that for every taste there is a fan. I've had the P229 Equinox for years and I wouldn't trade it for any other gun I have ever used.
+Rene Macias I feel the same way about the DA/SA which is why I never carry (not even in the glove box) the striker-fired S&W & Springfield. Remember the point of carrying a weapon is not to get great scores in competition - carrying is to defend one's self or loved ones. In that scenario, I doubt the DA/SA is going to make a lot (or any?) difference. Knowing a hammer has to be pulled back to discharge a weapon gives me a sense of security I don't get from the popular striker-fired polymer guns. Maybe its just me, but as you said, its a matter of taste.
+da Bob BEST COMMENT ON HERE!!!...THAT'S ALL IT BOILS DOWN TO...SO SICK AND TIRED OF FOLKS CRYING ABOUT THIS AND THAT ABOUT GUNS..WHEN REALITY THERE JUST IN LOVE WITH THOSE UGLY FLOCKS (GLOCK) YUUUK!!! lol...THERE WAS A TIME WHEN REVOLVERS GOT THE JOB DONE FOLKS SEEM TO HAVE FORGOT THAT

@@BobC59 - Plus, with DA/SA you have multi-strike capability should you ever need it. Not so with striker fired pistols.
I own two of this model pistol, and several other DA/SA semiautomatic pistols. The Sig has the finest DA trigger IMO, and transitioning is not a problem.
12 years later and I bought my first Sig. I been watching you since this came out at least. My brother in Law and I would call each other and say “Hickock 45 here” for years. Good times!
+vdelrio999 I'd wager a lot, if not all, that all striker fire negligent discharges were operator error rather than a design flaw. My uncle did negligent discharge a Makarov 9x18 pistol. Which is double/ single. Of course, still his fault, nothing to do with a design.
+vdelrio999 I will admit, if I leave my Glock chambered, it stays in the holster. If it is out of the holster it has a clear chamber. If it is chambered, it stays in a holster that locks it in place. The only real exception to this rule is my Beretta 92FS. I won't leave a 1911 chambered out of a holster either. My reasoning is that the holster blocks access to trigger.
I’ve been watching Hickok for ~ five to six years. I realize this video was old but this was the most erratic I’ve seen him in his first minutes of the video. All over the place. I have a P229 in 357 Sig but I bought it trying to fill out my Sig collection so thus far I have the P227, P228 (M11A1), P229, P365 and P320 compact in 357 Sig as well. I had an opportunity to get a P226 but bought the P228 instead. Also I had a Sig P939 SAS but my youngest son asked for it when he graduated college and I obliged. I am quite a Sig fan as well as a 357 Sig fan and was fortunate to buy a lot of it before it became hard to find.
I've had a lot of handguns. My p229 is by far my favorite. My 35' cold shot is spot on. The accuracy is top end. When I carry,, people take a long look. It's developed a patina over the years that says " Experienced shooter". The only draw back are the $50.00 magazines. Mr. H had $200.00 laying on the table.
I've tried a p226 before, it just fits so gosh darn comfortably in your hand. It has that german-style angled grip that just makes it incredibly comfortable.
I've been watching youtube videos for many years now. I realize that I watch a Hickok45 video everyday. This is my favorite channel. This is what makes the internet awesome, individuals developing their own content. It's amazing that the big networks have never caught on, but then again they are vehemently opposed to positive portrayals of firearm enthusiast. I will continue to watch and promote the ethic of responsible firearm ownership. These new hires videos are cake!
The short reset trigger (SRT) is a must. I have a P229 9mm Extreme that comes from the factory with Hogue grips and the SRT trigger already installed. By far my best and most accurate short
Thank you for your videos. They are entertaining and informative and have helped me narrow down which firearm to obtain for personal defense/conceal carry. I went with the Sig P229 in 9mm. You keep making the videos and I'll keep watching them.
@jimmyamanita, I have no serious problems with Sigs; they are quality firearms, too. If they had as good a trigger and I could shoot them as well as a Glock, I would possibly still own several. They are just not as accurate for me, from 1st to 5th shot. Slightly larger with higher bore axis, as well. Quality pieces, though. I don't ever recall having problems function-wise with any of the four or five I've owned.
There are several awesome guns to choose from but from everything I have read, seen, heard and experienced for myself, Sig Sauer is the best hand gun period. The double-single configuration WITH NO SAFETY is the best conceal carry and home defense weapon.
I shoot IDPA on two platforms, the 1911 (.45) and a p229 Enhanced Elite (.40). The double-action first round of the sig definitely took some getting used to, but by "took some getting used to" I mean "took about 15 minutes of drills" where I drew and fired twice, decocked and reholstered then repeated. When you are pushing the firearm towards the target and front sighting, if you aren't squeezing and sending a round before you are fully stretched then you might as well just pack up and go home, because the fellas and ladies that ARE doing that will be kicking yer rear when the timers are tallied. With that being said, I almost prefer the DA/SA as it rewards those of us that are zealous about "point and shoot" mechanics over "sight and squeeze." Every shooter beyond novice would do well to adopt BOTH of those methods, as run-and-gun and moving stages favor the point-shooter but one-hand/weak-hand stages or those pesky moments when the traveler has come and gone and your window of opportunity for a broadside on that terrorist holding the hostage has been replaced by the terrorist's head poking juuuuuuuuuuuust above your double-hand-raised goodiegoodie... Yeah, you are sight and queezing those bad boys! Anyhow, all I'm saying is the DA/SA isn't as horrible as everyone is making it out to be. And, I'm sorry Hickok45, I love you man, yer a kick-butt presenter and I mean no disrespect or lack of love when I say this but, you're a Glock man, through and through :D! And I totally respect that, brother, you have chosen your comfortability when competing just like I have, I'm just trying to give the Double-Action some love by pointing out how comfy it becomes after you accept it into your routine. That plus, the police academy I am going to requires DA on all cadet firearms, so... Lol I guess I am forced to love it ;D
Ah, forgot to say, I'm a left-handed shooter, and even though people say "LEFT HANDERS SHOULD STEER CLEAR OF SIGS!!!" I don't buy it. My index finger works the decocker almost better than I could right handed using my thumb, and the mag releases just as easily during all different types of reloads (tactical, empty, etc.) with the opposing index finger. The only bugaboo is when I don't want to rack the slide and release to chamber that first round, but instead want to operate the slide release. For that the left index finger seems to only cut it about once or twice before it fatigues... I guess I just need to break that part in some more.
Jim Oaklund "...the mag releases just as easily during all different types of reloads (tactical, empty, etc.) with the opposing index finger." Fellow lefty here: doesn't the mag release on the P229 switch over? My SP2022 does.
***** fair question! I haven't tried to monkey with it, as I was so used to doing the "reach under" method with my index finger with my 1911 that I just sorta carried that practice over to the 229ee. A switch would be nice though!
@TheVert1276 , Much less safe than a Glock; the single action has a light trigger break. I've shot both thousands of rounds worth. Totally different. No particular gun is the "King of AD's"; rather, certain people with certain levels of experience and training are the kings of that. It's okay not to like Glocks, though; lots of people don't like them.
out of all the years i have been watching your videos the single most important piece of information i have acquired is that you never want to fuck with hickok
I'd really enjoy seeing you show off the new P229 Legion! Been thinking about picking one up and your videos have always been very helpful in my decisions when purchasing a new firearm.
I think he misses the point about the DA/SA trigger because he is not a normal shooter.Hicock45 is a competition shooter. Most people aren't. Most pick up their handgun infrequently. That's true for soldiers and cops too. The police and the military like the DA/SA action because if you pick up your gun to shoot someone you want to be real sure about what you are doing. So the first shot should be a bit more deliberate. I don't particularly enjoy target shooting but I keep my P229 next to my bed. If you break down my front door in the middle of the night, my first shot will be a little slower than the subsequent ones. That's OK with me.
+Patrick Boyle The point is the difference between shot one and shot two, which could easily be about eight feet apart because of two completely different trigger pulls, whether it's in competition or in self defense. To each his own, though. It will work if one trains heavily with it.
hickok45 I'm sure you're right in what you say but it is also true that the military and many police agencies have recently seemed to prefer the DA/SA mechanism. I notice too that Sig has abandoned their traditional DA/SA approach and gone for a Glock-like striker fired new model. Maybe the world is coming around to your point of view.
+Patrick Boyle } Sig came out with the P320 a year or so ago. That's one model. Hardly "abandoning" their "traditional" approach. It's not like they replaced all the models in their lineup with striker fire models.
+Patrick Boyle i think you miss the point he is feeling..why not have your trigger feel exactly the same every time you touch it? If you are trained, you don't have your finger on the trigger unless you are ready for fire so that DA safety bs is just a waste of a consistent trigger.
Chad Legereit No Mr. Legereit I didn't miss the point. I'm not an expert. I had no point. That would be foolish for me to express an opinion based on my own experience. I simply haven't had enough experience to consider. I was merely citing the opinion of persons and institutions who evaluate guns for a living. It was a fact that a few years ago the military and the various police organizations all preferred the DA/SA hammer strike method. The DA/SA Berretta and the Sig Sauer pistols won the various competitions over the other styles of pistol. These pistols are both aluminum, hammer fired guns. Now apparently the official opinions have changed. Sig Sauer and Berretta are joining the others is making a Glock like pistol. That is: a polymer framed and striker fired. These guns are lighter, and cheaper.
I bought a Sig 229 about 10 years ago. It's a great gun. I've put several thousand rounds through it without any malfunctions. I did need to repalce the recoli spring though, aside from that no problems. I bought a spare barrel for it it 357 Sig which slips in the slide without any need for any fitting by a gunsmith, works fine in it and uses the same mags for 357 Sig as it does for the 40 S&W. If you can afford one I highly recommend it.
I have a sig 229 elite in 9mm and 40sw. Both are fantastic guns. The 9mm is a work horse but a Cadillac through and through. The 229 in .40sw is the most controlable .40sw caliber you will ever shoot. Get one.. won't regret it. Sorry hickok45 I like glocks, but they no way compare to a sig in shooting or quality capability!
Agreed. Hoping to get a P229 40S&W someday, even a police trade-in. I rented it once and it felt way more controllable, and comfortable, than the Glock 23 gen 4. I have to say though, right up there with the Sig in controllability and accuracy, is the Ruger SR40C.
enjoy your videos.... just got my first pistol..... 229 in .40...... first gun i have purchased..... got a whole 2 magazines through it..... at 30 ft i shot a 3" pattern..... totally impressed with it..... was a red box and looked totally new... probably a government turn in....... happy shooting
The Sig 229 should really not be compared to Glocks, The Sig is in a totally different Class. And Glocks are overpriced by about $100, Berettas and CZ's are underpriced by about $50. I own Both Glocks and Sigs, 3 Glocks, and 5 Sigs and i would not compare them, totally differeent classes of Guns. Aaron , the Sig Pistols cannot be carried Cocked and locked in single Action, dont ever do that please, they must be carried hammer down, double action first shot, then the snigle action is heaven on a 229. The 229 needs no improvement, perfection from the factory.
Bullshit! The gun failed Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson. He was attacked by that goon when in his patrol car. The goon had his hand on Officer Wilson's P229 in such a way that the hammer wouldn't fire until the third attempt during the struggle. Michael Brown was obstructing the hammer enough to prevent discharge. Officer Wilson could have lost control of the weapon before getting that third trigger pull in, had the goon been a little more skilled and not an 18 year-old black-racist brat. A handgun must first-and-foremost be an effective CQC tool and the P229, or any other gun with an exposed hammer, is inferior for that. I say this as the proud owner of an FNX-45 that I love but I recognize it's inferiority to Glocks for that reason. Striker-fired guns simply outclass external-hammer guns for combat, and for a more important reason than just that long first trigger pull. The trigger wasn't the factor in Ferguson. Other guns can fail on the second shot, of course, if the attackers hand prevents the weapon from cycling, but potentially not even being able to get your first shot off is a BIG DEAL!!! BIG DIFFERENCE!!! TOTAL DEAL-BREAKER!!
Felicitymien Funfdeft He could have been interfering with the hammer, but it's more likely that gun got pushed out of battery if his hand was over the top of it. Just a fraction of an inch would stop most any semi auto from firing, even Glock. I say that as a guy who's owns several Glocks.
I've been shopping around for a personal sidearm for a while, from Ruger to Taurus and SIG 226 but got stuck on my SIG 229, cal.40S&W DA Kellerman... and never looked back. For several years I was issued a Glock 17, but after relocating to a different State, I got a SIG 229 in 9mm as a Duty Sidearm. When I was issued the 9mm SIG, my qualification scores WENT UP from an average of 223 to 241 points. Best ever score was 245 on the DHS/ICE target, and I'm having a VERY bad right knee and by now arthritis in both hips, which is seriously affecting my shooting performance when going at the barricade from the standing to the kneeling position and back. It hurts like shit when under timed pressure.
I feel your pain. Had both hips replaced 6 yrs ago at 55. It changed my life. Combination of genetics and over use made them bone on bone. I had full medical coverage at the time. $6k out of pocket, but 10x that amount in total. I’ve had a knee and quad knee tendons repaired. Hips are the easiest and least painful recovery…by far✌️
@MrBladeDude, It's a hold-over from the useless "Crime Bill" or AWB. During that time, only law enforcement officers were supposed to have magazines with this marking, even though they are exactly like the millions of others that we all have. Now it doesn't matter since those crazy days are over with, hopefully. :-)
My duty gun is the P229 .40, DAO. We've been with these Sigs for about 7 years now and haven't had any big problems. Since being issued the P229, I've since changed all my other off duty autos that I carry to DAOs, since it's hard for me to remember to set the hammer back on single actions since we trained so much with our Sigs.
It's now July 2023. I'm watchinig this video again because I've owned this handgun for 20 years. I wonder if hickok45 ever dreamed that he would have over 7 million subscribers twelve years ago when he made this video. Amazing. I've learned so much over the years by watching this channel.
Yeah i love dual/singal action... I personally don't want or plan to purchase any striker fired pistol. I don't like the construction of their triggers with having a plastic trigger that has a hindge style on it. Plus i feel like the hammer on a pistol is a must.
Hello Mr. Hickok45. While watching this video, I just realized that the chamber was loaded and hammer cocked at around 11 min 55 sec of the video while you were trying a different holster. Thank you for noticing it and its a safety lesson. Thanks for all the professional and educational videos and keep up the good work sir!
"Hammer drop", AKA decocker. I have a Sig SP2022 and a Glock 22 gen 3. I love both guns but I feel like I'm shooting a better quality gun when I shoot the Sig.
A little over a year ago I had purchased a used Sig P229 for a steal of a deal. The gentlemen had provided the long history of receipts (always having Sig keep up on the maintenance), 5 magazines, and a conversion barrel, allowing me to shoot .357 sig & 40 s&w. Realizing it was an original German model, I had called Sig, to enquire over the manufacturer date. The Sig came in the original white cardboard Sig-Arms box. The gentlemen over at sig had informed me that this firearm was one of the first batches to be sold in the USA, and the inside of the (original) grips would indeed confirm the manufacturer date. February, 1992😁. Its one of the few firearms that will be buried with me, when I move into life's passage. Although I am a striker fire fan, and even more of a 1911 fan, this little pistol is by far the smoothest shooting 40 s&w (my preferred round) pistol I have had the the pleasure to shoot. I absolutely love this gun
@@bitmastermac if Sig would sell their older looking Sig's they would make so much money. GunBroker is awesome but if you find one with a legacy slide which has the half hight serrations it is technically called a LEO or military pistol
The short reset trigger kit really transformed my 229. Also got a 357sig barrel and much different to shoot than the 40sw. Actually shoot the 357 better, not sure why.
I just installed the SRT on mine. Really have grown to love this Pistol. The .40 has become my favorite caliber and it is very accurate. I like it the more I shoot it. Quite heavy is my only complaint.
That is the pistol that the Ontario Provincial Police in Canada replaced their S&W Model 10 .38 Spec. revolvers with. Sigs are such quality made pistols !
Sam Hillman The US Secret Service also uses the P229...in .357 SIG. Very nice weapon. I'm picking one up in 9mm next week if all goes as planned. (BTW, thank you for your service. My brother is a retired USCG CPO, and although I have a soft spot for the USAF, I have a lot of respect for the Coasties. Semper Paratus.)
Hey hickcok45, You mentioned you bought this used. I'm aware of the CPO program SIG does, but not all manufacturers may offer anything at all, or at least, anything up to that standard. I'd like to suggest you do a video on how to select a used gun. You know, what a buyer should look for (wear & tear vs. value/cost), how to spot a good deal. You've bought, sold, & traded more than many of us so I think you'd be better-able to offer some awesome insight in a single video. Thanks for all you do
Carried this gun as a duty weapon for a few years. I really liked the way it shot and felt etc.. shot it better because of the trigger feel than the Glock 23 we had before this. I could not shoot the 23 for crap. Practiced but never could get that trigger down. We had before both of those the S&W 5906.. now that was a heavy beast lol. Still shot it better than the glock but not as well as the Sig. Thx..
This was great to see, Ive just repaired my rescue 229 , and hickock answered my questions, oh yeah a 40 s&w has balls, and hell yeah a good gun. Careful to not replace the firing pin upside down boys, it wont work
"I don't like the 1st to 2nd shot transition. Ping Ping Pong Ping. " " My hand is too far down the gun, too far from the slide. Ding dong pling pling ". Classic Hankock.
When you listen to Hickok45, you get the good and the bad in his opinion. 99% of the "gun reviewers" online can't bring themselves to say much negative about anything they review. I want his honest opinion and I get it. Don't always feel exactly like he does, but when he says something, I believe it's worth listening to and considering carefully, especially if you're in the market to buy what he's reviewing.
hickok45, stop complaining about the DA/SA, it is the best conceal carry and home defense system hands down......as long as there is no safety on the gun. This is the reason Sig Sauer is the best weapon available.
areyouready22 What he is referring to is the never ending battle of Ford and Chevy owners. It now happens in the Gun world. You are basically saying "My Sig is better than your Glock/S&W/Etc...". In reality, all of these guns have their own ups and downs, and each of them have characteristics that make it a not so good gun for one person, but amazing to the next. It is what feels best for the particular person using it. My mother prefers a shotgun for home defense, I prefer a Glock. My point? There is no such thing as a "best" gun for a general audience or home defense/self defense. Its subjective to the end user. What works for you may not work for me.
BJames89 You are right, however, there are facts that must be considered objectively not subjectively. I owe many guns including Sigs and Glocks and subjectively speaking I love the simplicity, light weight and reliability of the Glocks. However, objectively, the Sig is a much better made weapon and is more reliable, and safer to handle regardless of skill level.
In a SD situation your threat is going to be very close. So close that the DA trigger won't make any difference at all. And if you have time to line up your sights for a precise shot you should have enough time to thumb the hammer back on the draw to get to that precise SA trigger. Just my opinion.
I CARRIED ONE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS ON DUTY. FOR LONGER SHOTS WE PRACTICED THUMBING THE HAMMER BACK. THE DEPARTMENT WENT TO GLOCK 22 RF AND THE SCORES WENT DOWN.
Exactly! If you train to cock the hammer as part of your muscle memory when you draw... The DA issue is a non issue - other than it offers better safety with a round in the chamber.
I’ve always liked the tall slide. Gives me a lot to grab on to. Also (probably an illusion) it seems like it helps me get a quicker sight picture. Spot on about the DA trigger, you know exactly when it’s going to break
I’m a massive fan of 1911s. This is the perfect gun in my opinion. It satisfies my 1911 love with a modern twist. All the options with Bison/Moose like strength. Beautiful.
in a few thousand years humans will be building a new shopping mall on this guys land and think some big war happened there after they find tens of thousands of bullets
Definitely, it’s like complaining that a pistol isn’t a revolver or a folding knife isn’t a fixed blade.

Yeah, he does. I've owned two 92FSs, a P225 and a P226 since the early 90s. I have no trouble at all with the DA/SA triggers on these pistols. As soon as your finger goes to the trigger and feels its position you instinctively know the difference in force needed to discharge the weapon. I don't even think about it.
I always wanted to see a review of the Smith model 39-2. I guess this SIG is the closest to that. I'm surprised that there's so much criticism about a longer first pull when it's very much like a revolver. Then that nice short reset. I'm a big Hickok 45 fan! Always enjoy every video. Thank You ✌🏻🦅🇺🇲
good grief:):) all that complaining about the grip, the weight, the trigger system..... then commence blasting everything in sight...... shooting it as well as anything i have seen him s hoot......
If you’ve watched his other videos, he is considerably more accurate with pretty much every other pistol he shoots. The complaints are justified based on how much worse this gun performed in the hands of an expert shooter.

@@geektarded - Nope. He admittedly hasn't fired a SIG in years - maybe over a decade, he admittedly dislikes the trigger system ... it's logical to infer he has a mental block when it comes to SIGs and yet he is shooting lights out with a compact pistol with a short barrel. You're WRONG!
I own a 229. I think it is great gun! Ok three years later. Sig does make a single action only P229. One more comment- you could decock it every shot if you want to have the same trigger pull. Also they do sell a P226 and P229 in double action only.
My only double/single action pistol is my Beretta 92FS. I bought it because it was the military pistol. Same reason I like the 1911. I will end up with a Sig because they have the BEST decocker placement. Wish they weren't so expensive.
Right now is a good time to find a police trade-in. 40. I got mine at a gun show for $429 in great shape. A lot of departments are changing to 9mm striker guns, so look around...for a Sig Sauer those prices are a steal.
Agree! I have 4 P226s. Two 9mm and two .40 cal. I just really like the quality. My guns are all police trade-ins with a lot of rounds fired but they are good for many more!

I have a '92 P225 and a '95 P226, both German made, that I acquired new. Best quality-made mass-produced firearms on the planet, save for my '79 Colt Python and '97 Colt Anaconda - which were not really "mass produced". My two 92FSs (both Italian-made, one an original Vertec) are actually very well-made as well. I only buy quality firearms, usually either NIB or very lightly used.
Got to say I love your videos.I have a p229 and I always cock the hammer before I fire. I think the single action off the 229 is the slickest trigger I have ever fired. It is truly a great shooting weapon.
I know I just bought a p229 and shot it for the first time today. Right off the bat I was pretty accurate with it. I still shoot better with my beretta 92fs. I think simply because I'm used to the beretta after putting several thousand rounds through it. I think I will shoot really well with the sig once I get used to it. Ill tell you one thing the the trigger is way better on the sig compared to the beretta! Especially the double action pull. But still the beretta is a tack driver. I almost laugh when I hear people talk smack about it.
clayncali Absolutely. Consider their bearing surface between the frame and the slide. They can’t help but be accurate. Why would every Federal Agency in our country be issued Sigs?
i bought a sig 229 1 year ago in 357sig which is a lighter version of the 357sw,and later bought a 40 cal.barrel for it,the mag. also handles the 40cal.and the 357sig.this is the first semi-auto i've ever owned.i like it.i wish i could shoot halve as good as you! catfishbarb out!
I carry a 226 occasionally to remind me how easy a g17 is to carry. But my sig wins for accuracy hands down. They are serious machines of warfare.
I carry my CZ 75 B to remind me how much lighter my Sig p229 is
@@jaredtimm327 I carry my HK MK23 to remind me how much lighter and smaller all my other handguns are.
@@horscategorie they’re also expensive.
@@ClergetMusic I recently got my sig p226 40s&w for 525 in like new condition!!! I have put a few hundred rounds so far I'm in love, but I've only had or about a week!!!
i carry a P226 too, in the summer i carry a P320 and im going back to P229
I realize this an older video from 2011. As an owner of a p229 in 40 S&w, I really like this video. I bought my p229 from Buds in Lexington Ky and it has been a real nice shooting and utterly reliable handgun. I am old guy and for most of my life if I had to pick one handgun to bet my life on, it was a 1911. I have shot almost everything out there at one occasion or another. The one gun that changed my mind, after decades of such thought, was the Sig p229.
This may not be the best gun for you, but it is worthy of consideration.
I'm an older guy also, and just left communist Illinois. I've got Sig 229 and 226 in 40, 3-metal CZs in 9. Love the 229 in 40
Here-here! SIG P226/P229 in .357 in my holster any day. 1911's .38 Super/.45ACP are my other go to guns as well.
I like how when he shoots the gong you can see the ammo flying right before it hits!
Vlad S. right! so cool
Morris Zachrisson scientifically how did you figure that because there is no truth to that logic at all.
Superfund site
.40 cal is comparatively slow ammo.
The Swedes don’t play around
@@Prepper319Yeah they do. Whole lot of issues there, same with France and Germany.
I feel like watching hickok makes me a better person
It does.
A better shooter .... atleast
This is similar to the gun Jack Wilson used to kill the shooter in West Freeway Church of Christ
Vince
Jack didn’t call 911... He called 357
Same model, but his was chambered in .357 Sig
That man should never pay for a Beer for the rest of his life!
@@muriloninja lol u say that alot😂
I have that same exact gun chambered in 357 sig, it is now my EDC
I feel the same, he just HAD to critique I think... pretty hard to do with a Sig imo. For me the only neg is price.
Yes you can lol.
Transition from double action to single action is not an issue. 99% of the time you're assailant is within 5 feet of you. If you miss at that distance you shouldn't be carrying a gun.
You kinda can
ray marchetta it’s 7 yards at most, most of the time and 7 yards isn’t easy to hit in the heat of the moment either way
Funny thing is, the DA/SA feature on this gun is my favorite thing about it!!
I prefer the P229 because of the decocker.
look how clean that ejection is my god my Glocks don't have ejection like that :/
I own two of this model pistol, and several other DA/SA semiautomatic pistols. The Sig has the finest DA trigger IMO, and transitioning is not a problem.
12 years later and I bought my first Sig. I been watching you since this came out at least. My brother in Law and I would call each other and say “Hickock 45 here” for years. Good times!
I would feel alot safer with a da/sa pistol for concealed carry with a round in the chamber over any striker fired pistol.
I'd wager a lot, if not all, negligent discharges are with striker fire pistols.
Well said.
Ya I know, people freak out when I holster my gun in single action with a 2lbs trigger. It's not like I'm gonna trip and shoot grandma.
My fiancé and I love your videos Hickok! Everybody loves a good wholesome southern gentleman. God bless.
Best $800 investment of my life, great gun, and amazing accuracy.
Well you can now find mecgats for as low as 30, so it's getting a bit better, I wouldn't use them, but promags are in the low 20's
I just picked up a 2014 version of this pistol, I have about 80 rounds of fmj thru it zero issues. It's a LE turn-in, reconditioned by Sig, I love it.
Thank you for your videos. They are entertaining and informative and have helped me narrow down which firearm to obtain for personal defense/conceal carry. I went with the Sig P229 in 9mm. You keep making the videos and I'll keep watching them.
I love that you can watch the lead projectile flying downrange when he is shooting the gong.
How do you feel about the more recent SAO sigs?
rewatched your video after getting my own Sig 229. I can not keep my hands off this thing! Great ergos and beautiful looks
Sig makes the very best. That 229 is the best gun I've ever held! Give me a Sig p226/229 in .357Sig, best guns in the best caliber!
just to say that you have fans even in quebec canada......being a new shooter i have learned very muck with your channel thank you very much sir!!!!
Both my first Sig yesterday.. it was the P229. Just based on firing it is a great gun.
There are several awesome guns to choose from but from everything I have read, seen, heard and experienced for myself, Sig Sauer is the best hand gun period. The double-single configuration WITH NO SAFETY is the best conceal carry and home defense weapon.
areyouready22 That is correct. There is seriously nothing better than a 9-10 DA trigger for self defense at 7 yds.
Thanks Hickok for doing this video with the 229 in 40 like the pistol was originally chambered in.
Great video as always. I carry my P229 every day. I agree it is heavy, but if you have a good belt and holster setup it can work for everyday carry.
+Patrick Boyle
i think you miss the point he is feeling..why not have your trigger feel exactly the same every time you touch it?
I bought a spare barrel for it it 357 Sig which slips in the slide without any need for any fitting by a gunsmith, works fine in it and uses the same mags for
357 Sig as it does for the 40 S&W.
+Gun Hillbilly well said. Sigs are just a beauty to shoot. Smooth like a lexus, tough like a truck.
I've had a 229 for almost 10 years, I love it and seem to not be satisfied with other pistols. Hopping that the 320 is the same because I want one.
Hickok you should do a review on the new Sig P229 Legion! (:
+1 for a part 2 with the Sig 229 Legion

Raymond, you're a goof.
Its like comparing a minivan to a truck or a C-130 to a F-22
I say that as a guy who's owns several Glocks.
giff74 Felicitymien Funfdeft If you really believe that Michael Brown actually attacked Darren Wilson, then you're both idiots.

People hate on the .40 for no good reason. You can buy a police trade in one of these for $450 with night sights now. Excellent
Hickok, I have to say you put the most rounds on the gong out of any Gun I have seen you shoot with this p229.
Sig hands down my favorite and yes I own a Glock.
Everyone has a glock that's why I don't want a glock
Everyone had fisher price toys when they were kids.
+Review Guy Try the Walther PPQ. That trigger is a dream.
Tbf you probably dont know much about firearms
Hello Mr.
I love the look of the plain p229 not the one with the rail
Just found an SAS
@@bitmastermac if Sig would sell their older looking Sig's they would make so much money. GunBroker is awesome but if you find one with a legacy slide which has the half hight serrations it is technically called a LEO or military pistol
Great video. Just bought the 229 Equinox, haven't taking it to the range yet but ready to go after watching this. Thanks JT
The short reset trigger kit really transformed my 229. Also got a 357sig barrel and much different to shoot than the 40sw. Actually shoot the 357 better, not sure why.
12 years later still one of the best shooters on UA-cam..
*chooses to wear glock hat on day he's shooting sig* you sneaky guy hickok! Give sig its moment of glory! ;) great video as always.
We use it in the U.S. Coast Guard as well. Great weapon

Now the OPP is replacing them with Glocks.
Hey hickcok45,
You mentioned you bought this used.
Thanks for all you do
As he shoots a Gong at 80 yards with it Sig Sauer the greatest weapon ever produced
A short barreled compact SIG no less!!!
Thx..
another nice vid. its rough making vids in this freezing weather!
My Ford is better than your Chevy!! :-)
hickok45 I own a Ford.
areyouready22 You don't got the "Ford vs Chevy" joke, don't you?
areyouready22 What he is referring to is the never ending battle of Ford and Chevy owners.
Great video! You are one of the people who inspired me to start my channel.
In a SD situation your threat is going to be very close. So close that the DA trigger won't make any difference at all. And if you have time to line up your sights for a precise shot you should have enough time to thumb the hammer back on the draw to get to that precise SA trigger. Just my opinion.
Brandon Mugele no its called practice.
I CARRIED ONE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS ON DUTY. FOR LONGER SHOTS WE PRACTICED THUMBING THE HAMMER BACK. THE
DEPARTMENT WENT TO GLOCK 22 RF AND THE SCORES WENT DOWN.
Exactly! If you train to cock the hammer as part of your muscle memory when you draw... The DA issue is a non issue - other than it offers better safety with a round in the chamber.
Excellent camera work John. Thanks a bunch.
It's really cool watching the bullet hit the gong.
Yes, right at about the 06:30 time stamp you can see the round as it arcs down toward the target, excellent shooting. About how far? 50 yds?
+Frank K I think it is a little over 80 yards.
I’ve always liked the tall slide. Gives me a lot to grab on to. Also (probably an illusion) it seems like it helps me get a quicker sight picture. Spot on about the DA trigger, you know exactly when it’s going to break
7:32 The Spray got a shrapnel
I’m a massive fan of 1911s. This is the perfect gun in my opinion. It satisfies my 1911 love with a modern twist. All the options with Bison/Moose like strength. Beautiful.
in a few thousand years humans will be building a new shopping mall on this guys land and think some big war happened there after they find tens of thousands of bullets
SCUBA Steve you said it first 🤣I won’t forget
and a dancing frog...
Scuba Steve! Damn you!
Would love to see an updated review using a newer 229 with E2 grips, or maybe even the legion.
Is it just me, or does Hickok45 spend a little too much time complaining about the DA/SA trigger?
Way too much time. I don't think it's a problem at all for him. Good grief. I still like the guy, though.
MrBanjovial He said he got used to Glocks.
Thats cause dak is the way 2 go on the p229
I always wanted to see a review of the Smith model 39-2. I guess this SIG is the closest to that. I'm surprised that there's so much criticism about a longer first pull when it's very much like a revolver. Then that nice short reset. I'm a big Hickok 45 fan! Always enjoy every video. Thank You ✌🏻🦅🇺🇲
good grief:):) all that complaining about the grip, the weight, the trigger system..... then commence blasting everything in sight...... shooting it as well as anything i have seen him s
hoot......
More accurate how do you figure that he hits the target everytime
I own a 229. I think it is great gun!
Ok three years later. Sig does make a single action only P229.
One more comment- you could decock it every shot if you want to have the same trigger pull. Also they do sell a P226 and P229 in double action only.
My only double/single action pistol is my Beretta 92FS. I bought it because it was the military pistol. Same reason I like the 1911. I will end up with a Sig because they have the BEST decocker placement. Wish they weren't so expensive.
And they're the new Army standard issue. P320
Right now is a good time to find a police trade-in. 40. I got mine at a gun show for $429 in great shape. A lot of departments are changing to 9mm striker guns, so look around...for a Sig Sauer those prices are a steal.
I like the heavy trigger pull on first it’s a really good safety feature they definitely don’t need to do away with it
I love my DA/SA Sig P226... safest system ever without the need of the so called "Safety Lock".
@@MrTruckerf Can never go wrong with a P226.
Pretty cool that you can see the 40 cal bullet in the air before it hits the gong, wouldn't expect that.
Would love to see the P226/P229 Legion series on this channel. Don't know if Buds can help with that or not
I just got a P229 Legion and have been scouring the web for videos on it.
I know just got 226 version
His grouping on the Gong near the start of the Video is absolutely insane!!!
Not insane... Sig.
Got to say I love your videos.I have a p229 and I always cock the hammer before I fire. I think the single action off the 229 is the slickest trigger I have ever fired. It is truly a great shooting weapon.
I own a 229.. Quite amazing. Did take a lil while to get used to .. Thank you sir. Nice review as always
You can just tell he is not a sig fan with his tone. The 229 is most accurate pistol out there.
I almost laugh when I hear people talk smack about it.
clayncali I’m glade you caught that hahaha same here
clayncali
Absolutely.
Consider their bearing surface between the frame and the slide. They can’t help but be accurate. Why would every Federal Agency in our country be issued Sigs?
Remind me not to piss you off sir! Love to see you with your every day carry.Very fine work with a piece that you don't shoot often!
I can feel you wanting to hate this gun Hickock, but I gotta say, you're shooting it better than your glocks there buddy ;)
i bought a sig 229 1 year ago in 357sig which is a lighter version of the 357sw,and later bought a 40 cal.barrel for it,the mag. also handles the 40cal.and the 357sig.this is the first semi-auto i've ever owned.i like it.i wish i could shoot halve as good as you! catfishbarb out!
Sounds like a true glocker
