Ryogen, he died on 18th September 2017 for a cancer. He had been fought against the cancer in during last few years. As you can see from this performance, he was a young, very talented guitarist and a musician. I hope many people will remember this artist, and the performance as much as possible. R.I.P
The fact he is playing while fighting cancer in this video means a lot to me. Doing what he loves - not focused on anything else. Sharing his passion and music till he couldn’t anymore. Beautiful music, beautiful soul. May I meet you someday, somehow, somewhere brother. May your music and passion teach others as it has taught me. Thank you.
all the thumbs down are sad to see. I have been playing guitar for 22 years and this guy may not have the most virtuosity I have ever seen but he certainly has his own style and is creating a mood and expressing himself in a very honest and beautiful way, and his use of electronic looping is seamless. I can tell he has put a lot of time into developing his craft.
A phenomenal player. This music will not mean much to casual listeners. Only the ones who plays the instrument knows what he is doing. And indeed it is phenomenal. Beyond words. Totally one of a kind. Not just the technical prowess that he has, but on top of it ,he adds his own story + emotion + feel + depth and dimension to an experience of the vast water body deep inside where life just blooms in its totality. I just knew recently that he died . He played magnificently beyond words.
Let's be real here for a second: yeah he is using pedals to get the sound but have you guitar players forgotten that they're just tool. Listen and watch closely or have you forgotten what that was like when you first started learning? Get a sense of his timing and rhythm, his techniques, and more importantly how he simply isn't playing but creating something. It's not all technical. People forget too easily that playing an instrument looses all purpose when the player doesn't add something of their self to what they do. And that goes for anything in life. So be real: this guy is phenomenal and if you could do half of what he can then congrats. Be proud of yourself but stay humble and learn even more.
I've been rocking every guitar I could get my hands on and in my humble opinion. This card was a genius many guitarists are perfectionists to a fault. its in our nature.this fellow may be using effects most of us do unless your frigging tommy emanuelle so this man wrote music here that I've just discovered and will be playing for years to come on Sunday mornings with sir Elton and esperanza Spalding thank you very much
Very well written, and those tattoos are something else. Creativity lives in our minds and can only be presented to the world through people like this, it's nice to know there's people in the world who haven't forgotten that.
As mentioned by some he has recently passed away, only 11 months after this performance. Fighting against cancer he lost his hair, and I believe since then he has gone into the idea of body painting. Putting the fact aside, I feel his music is truly coming from his inner soul. To me he was and still is a true artist. Anybody who has a say about the style should search “ryogen guitar”. Often he was more aggressively percussive and that too was fun to listen or see. By the time of this performance he should have been aware his condition was far from perfect. However even after this date he kept on fighting and performing until the very last moment. I can only respect for the guts he has shown. Sorry for the long post but I thought there are things worth mentioning. R.I.P. Ryogen. I hope your music continues to live in one’s heart.
I closed my eyes and as I listened, I could picture an underwater world full of life and color, the sounds of whalesong and dolphins singing, bubbles coming out of air pockets, and I was a passerby watching this world float past me, man. This was magical.
When he started to hold the guitar.. Feels like his body, music, soul, guitar fuse together to create some magical or something amazing when u close ur eyes.. Thid guy is a legend..
Just to let you people know, this young man, who just loved playing the guitar and didn't hesitate at all to share with the world what he's got, died of cancer. If you have time to be sarcastic, use that time to go out there and express yourselves and show the world what you have, because while some may criticize you, there are also others waiting for that gift you have!
Well, I suppose no information on this is provided in English. It's on his official twitter in Japanese. Other musicians and artists who worked with him have talked about it on their websites, tool, so it seems to be very true that he passed away...sadly...as far as I consider all those articles in Japanese.
This one of those pieces where you lie down, close your eyes, and let your mind wonder and escape the world. A beautiful piece of music, takes a good musician to create something with complex techniques, takes a great one to create a piece of music which captivates people. Loved it
I closed my eyes and as I listened, I could picture an underwater world full of life and color, the sounds of whalesong and dolphins singing, bubbles coming out of air pockets, and I was a passerby watching this world float past me, man. This was magical.
I must be high... Cause I am tripping out on his wicked skills playing the guitar, feels like I am under water listening to the harmonic sounds of dolphins
A stirring performance. Those cosmic sonic sounds with those guitar chords. Crying guitar strings. A beautiful balance. All the visuals, including Rogen’s tattoo work help attract to the performance. Bare foot on those pedals. Sensational work.
A guy, musician, like no other. So sad he is gone and his unique and beautiful music. I come back here often, close my eyes and fly through limitless space of the sky, surrounded by Ryogen's sounds.
Such a listened musician. It's our loss that he isn't among us any more. His music is lovely. If really doesn't matter what tool you use, his music is lovely. Respect to you bother.
I'm not a guitar expert so if people that know better regarding guitar are saying he's doing a "basic" job, well, okay. But this guy is freaking talented. The whole composition, using more than 4 notes, the atmosphere, the mastering of the instruments... Well, everything is composing the music, doing the same kind of job than Mozart or Bach. If people like what you did, then you've done great. Music is sharing and this guy has done it very well.
I just came across this mesmerizing musician and my heart is truly sad that this beautiful guitarist is no longer living, but I will always be grateful that I was blessed to have listened to Ryogen create his music to his own guitar beat.
There is a lot more going on here than a lot of the cynical musicians in the comment sections are appreciating. I've been playing guitar for 20 years and am a guitar teacher at a music school and I thought the song itself, the use of visual art, and the tasteful application of electronic effects made a beautiful piece of work here.
Agreed. I have been a guitarist for over 30 years and I this music was done wonderfully. If a person really wants to find out how many years it would take to develop this skill as a whole, I would love to see someone replicate it!

He really immerses himself in his music, very complex sound effects skillfully performed to sound like bubbles of water rising and animal sounds, the man is brilliant. R.I.P. Ryogen, lost before your time.
The reason most people love music , pick up and play instruments/sing and learn music is because of the "joy" . Watching the visuals crafted toward the vision of the music and istening to the music here was a very Ecstatic and Joyful experience. Thank you Ryogen
Any musician complaining about this has a poor understanding of their chosen art form. Most people using an instrument strive to find new, different and exciting ways to take their instruments to the limit and to create new sounds, new music, or improve on things already being done, creating things that maybe nobody ever did before. (Even singers strive to create the same.) These people end up being the best, the people who get talked about in history. The ones who can stir your soul in ways that are hard to precisely explain. Outstanding guitar skills and his ability create moving textures along with the techniques he's using is impressive. The only thing I hate is the scowled disinterested looks 90% of the audience gave.
Imagine being at this performance; sitting there watching, listening and feeling this music... no words in a UA-cam comment could describe this... 凄い、お疲れ様。どうもありがとう、Ryogen-San
This underwater guitar effect can be achieved with the tera echo by boss. it's also included in the multi-effect pedal, boss ME-80 which might be what he is using.

The love of music, perseverance, and creativity leads every guitarist his success. Constant practice and exercise brings perfection. When someone reach the top, never forget to look back where he started. Aware of his health condition maybe, then thats the time he put all his soul in music. It's worth remembering, may his soul find eternal peace.
Absolutely Amazing!! The most BEAUTIFUL pieces of guitar music I have heard in a long time!!!!! I wish i could have heard of him in his living years!!! Bravo,Bravo!!! Ryogen May you Live on and Rest In Piece!!!...... xo
I found this beautiful music just this last year...and I am sharing with as many friends and family as possible. This music will live on forever~What an amazing musician and artist! He was definitely in tune to the sounds of nature and healing music. Had he been allowed to stay on this earth longer there is no telling how far reaching his music could have been. RIP sweet soul~ 💓💯
5:36 why did they show her in the edit? 😂 ---- -- I just discovered Ryogen. Really touching story.. and his playing made me fly somewhere beautiful and warm. Great man, rest in peace 🙏
To all the viewers who gave thumbs down to dis video - you guys dont knw wat talent is N will nevr knw wat talent is Dis guy is so talented Hats off to you man
After his 3rd round about i did the same... It's a "little" too much the same over and over, the delay is not helping in anyway.. :D It's just simple chord progression with phaser, reverb and delay, and not even played "really tight".. NOT saying I could do it better, but I bet Tommy Emmanuel could do this effect, and maybe even better clean sounding with just his Maton guitar and maybe a little compressor and reverb.. The delay is his 10 fingers. ;) Best Regards Thomas
Unfortunate 😂😏 he is good, I'm enjoying it, but he's not quite on a par with the likes of Keaggy, McKee or Hedges in terms of pure technically perfect fingerstyle. But he's got his style, I dig it, man.
I'm an atheist through and through, and that is very unlikely to ever change, but I wish I could unironicly say "God bless this man." That was gorgeous.
Renzo San Juan The use of pedals requires skills? Jesus christ dude he used the same passive effects for the entire song. The reason no other guitarists are up there is because most musicians primary goal and proof of their accomplishments comes about through recognition from OTHER MUSICIANS. Not to mention this is literally shameful to the artist. It is a gimmick, and as an artist it is belittling to pretend that this is somehow performance art worthy, thus most guitarists would have far too much pride to play this in front of an audience. And like 90% of them could play it if they invested 2 hours of their time.
I know that it isn't that difficult at all. The point I'm making is that he is an artist. His main act may not be the guitar playing but the performance itself. The lighting, body paint, just the whole atmosphere. That's all I'm trying to say, my friend. Enjoy everything else if the guitar playing isn't pleasing you
He's ok. There are many musicians around the world who play on the street and because of their environment ppl don't give them the time of day and just overlook their talent. It's more about how you market music nowadays rather than how you make it unfortunately.
if a meal is awful...but the person next to you wants seconds what does that mean? let me guess the person next to you has awful taste huh????? yours is superior? let me guess cause you've cooked food before you know more about taste???
I could tell this piece is the creation of creativeness - artistically played music . The sound will take you somewhere when u close your eyes and feel the melody, u will imagine you’re with nature. One of the most amazing things ive heard in my entire life!! Kudos to this artist!
Me too . I like YANNI, BACH, Himekami, until I heard his music, I was deeply impressed by him, his music transcends the shackles of classical and religion, and involves the most fundamental things, just like miracles!
Ryogen, he died on 18th September 2017 for a cancer.
He had been fought against the cancer in during last few years.
As you can see from this performance, he was a young,
very talented guitarist and a musician.
I hope many people will remember this artist, and the performance
as much as possible.

OMG!!! Is it true??????
He was so powerful... life is cruel sometimes...
Yes. So sad.
I think so too. I have no words.
Maybe if he was good at guitar he would still be alive.
This guy created an entire world in 5 minutes, absolutely beautiful.
What rubbish are you taking
Austin G I get you, it was just magical to become lost in his world.
I couldn't agree more!
This guy destroyed an entire life in 5 tattoo sessions
@Psyop Beats why the disrespect? Pedals are just pedals. The artist brings them to life.
Thank you.

What a good example of how there is beauty in simplicity.
This is soul music. You're not bored. You're relaxed.

When the guitar becomes an extension of your soul!
O Randy...
Thats what Slash wrote in his biography. Something in lines of: "And the guitar became what it always supposed to be - an extension of the player"
I must be high... Cause I am tripping out on his wicked skills playing the guitar, feels like I am under water listening to the harmonic sounds of dolphins
Sebastian Hine Dolphins, make senses cuz the song title is deep blue.
True I felt the same way
Sebastian Hine yeah its called vibing with the music
you dont need drugs to do that 😎
Yea, I need to come up for breath ;-)
First time hearing this. What an incredibly talented young man Ryogen was. May he R.I.P.

lmao, this guy is hiding behind massive chorus and reverb. anyone can make good sounding music with chorus, reverb, and delay effects.
amen 😂
Ryan James o
Haven’t seen an ovation be used this way before. Amazing
The comments lol. He's on stage, you're not. Bunch of back seat drivers that critique everything.
Some thinks he sucks, some think he is the next coming, the audience is the consumer they can critique as they please.
Amen to that, something I hate about the internet: Everyone should NOT to be entitled to an opinion.
@Big Brother muppet
This fellow is really inventive. What an amazing guitarist.
It was meant to happen Ryogen. I'm so glad I was able to meet you and to hear your music. Thank you!!
Just feel what he said from his spirit expressed through his guitar, priceless
This guy made his guitar more than what most can do. I like this and I'm inspired to create with my guitar today.

He really immerses himself in his music, very complex sound effects skillfully performed to sound like bubbles of water rising and animal sounds, the man is brilliant. R.I.P. Ryogen, lost before your time.
So special that he is gone but his music lives on...incredible performance.
I love how he made the sounds like burning something with fire in the last seconds! Extremely impressive! 💯💯💯
Had to download his two albums! This guy is amazing
The reason most people love music , pick up and play instruments/sing and learn music is because of the "joy" . Watching the visuals crafted toward the vision of the music and istening to the music here was a very Ecstatic and Joyful experience.

Any musician complaining about this has a poor understanding of their chosen art form.

RIP Ryogen. Im just sad your talent isnt gracing the world any longer.
It needs more people like you.
As I've watched for the first time. This belongs to my playlist! Genius.
As a death metal listener... I approve. this is some soothing, unwinding beautiful music! this is REALLY GOOD.
alot of metal has small clean part :D
Me too, as a metal maniac, I'm amazed!
I've never heard a sound like this from a guitar before. It's amazing.
you don't pick up a guitar and say I'm going to play this song today. this airbender is incredibly gifted
Rest in peace, and thank you for sharing your gifts, Ryogen.

This is a treat for your ears and eyes! Love it all
He come from other time, or other planet? A beautiful spectacle!!! Sound, picture, space and emotion, 4D - strong!
My only regret is that it was not longer.
Rest in peace, sweet Ryogen.
This underwater guitar effect can be achieved with the tera echo by boss. it's also included in the multi-effect pedal, boss ME-80 which might be what he is using.
Amazing performance, R.I.P., we remember you bro
I closed my eyes... when i opened it i saw fairies and unicorns.... Thanks for the little break from my world of chaos and uncertainties.
Wow, beautiful. Loved it. So sad to hear he is no longer with us.
Reminds me of the DIABLO soundtrack.. from WAY back in the day.. remember?
was an epic Guitar exhibition... he made it sound like a unknown instrument!!!
This is Jigen when he activates his curse mark. Relaxing music though hehe
Feels like I'm being pulled into a realm of tranquility. Thanks for sharing a piece of your soul. RIP
Rest in peace ryogen..

Expressing his "uniqueness"...being in the moment....being who he is, doing what he loves...how beautiful is that! May we all learn, that it is ok to be "who we are"..no judgement...simply loving the being! Thankyou!
Absolutely incredible. No rules. Just straight from your kokoro.
*KOKORO* INDEED:-)
This isn’t how guitars were meant to be played. I’m glad he played it that way anyway.
I saw this performance 5 years ago maybe 6.....im still listening and i can't still figure out all tbe notes .,.. better then tim hension...this is hard......
Tim Henson is one of the most repetitive players I've ever heard. Very over rated in my opinion.
Ryogen is not just a guitarist he's an artist! RIP!
The kid was obviously on pins and needles nervous yet kept it together enough to creat a psychedelic underwater mindscape. Very cool.

Sounds amazing! I hear the Boss Tera Echo leaving a huge fingerprint on this song.
Brilliant creative energy and musicianship!
A colaboration with him and maynard james keenan would have been epic. He gives off a strong adam jones vibe.
Its basically guitar ASMR. Dude was ahead of his time.
Me too ❤ His music is lively and close to reality. It's actually a miracle, like life🎉
Incredible playing !
Feels like a new kind of art : Guitar meditation
this is not new at all there are many people like him doing this...check Estas Tonne he been doing this for a long time
I'm a big Estas Tonne fan, can you make a recommendation?

After his 3rd round about i did the same... It's a "little" too much the same over and over, the delay is not helping in anyway.. :D It's just simple chord progression with phaser, reverb and delay, and not even played "really tight".. NOT saying I could do it better, but I bet Tommy Emmanuel could do this effect, and maybe even better clean sounding with just his Maton guitar and maybe a little compressor and reverb.. The delay is his 10 fingers. ;) Best Regards Thomas
i am so happy you pointed this out
Unfortunate 😂😏 he is good, I'm enjoying it, but he's not quite on a par with the likes of Keaggy, McKee or Hedges in terms of pure technically perfect fingerstyle. But he's got his style, I dig it, man.
yeah, his performance is totally breathtaking.
Bwahahahahha!!! :D
She knew the camera was on her too..
Instead of yawing out of boredom, this gave me happy yawns because it's just so peaceful. It makes me want to fall asleep.
sublime🙏❤
This takes me somewhere else.
Not complaining
WOW this is simply amazing.
i'm in a forest...and flowers are all around me. Fairies, unicorns and elves are playing on the fields beside the crystal clear lake...
Hater's only wished they could play half as good.
I'm an atheist through and through, and that is very unlikely to ever change, but I wish I could unironicly say "God bless this man." That was gorgeous.
Просто волшебно....
Исполнение завораживает.
да он лажает на каждом квадрате!
i was listening this on my Lsd trip and this guy just took me to some other dimension!! I love this !!
Why judge when you can just enjoy the music? Even the use of pedals require skill. If he's so mediocre then why aren't you the one up there?
Wow, dude. Harsh.
if a meal is awful...but the person next to you wants seconds what does that mean? let me guess the person next to you has awful taste huh????? yours is superior? let me guess cause you've cooked food before you know more about taste???
I could tell this piece is the creation of creativeness - artistically played music . The sound will take you somewhere when u close your eyes and feel the melody, u will imagine you’re with nature. One of the most amazing things ive heard in my entire life!! Kudos to this artist!
Me too . I like YANNI, BACH, Himekami, until I heard his music, I was deeply impressed by him, his music transcends the shackles of classical and religion, and involves the most fundamental things, just like miracles!
Lmao wtf just cut to a lady in the audience yawning
Yeh that was a badly timed cutaway 😆
魂の叫びのように聴こえる
命が確かにゆらゆらと燃えている
4:44 Hideo Kojima front row. Awesome
RIP Silent Hill. I'm new to the franchise, so I look for anything resembling a reference to Team Silent, especially Kojima and also Akira Yamaoka.
