This show literally shows us how to have these kinds of conversations. It’s called Conflict Hotline. This episode is called Political Differences. Brilliant. m.ua-cam.com/video/lqPNfjpxol0/v-deo.html
I love how Joe interviews. Respectful and intellectual conversation. I do understand BOTH views. I agree more with Ben. It's cool we can talk about it. Freely.
Matt seemed nervous. He always sort of does in interviews talking about his faith even on Catholic platforms. I do believe Ben is generally more intelligent and well read and certainly is more confident when he is challenged or even given a question in general. I take Walsh to be more of a Conservative Catholic whereas I’m probably the step further to the “right” on that spectrum as a Traditionalist and to be frank it is a position that requires a lot more reading and critical analysis of assessing what is the orthodox position of the Catholic Church as expressed in the Magisterium through history. I do find myself wishing that Matt would do more reading and become firmer in the specifics of his position as dictated by his religion. Ben comes of much more self-assured and frames the question from the outset as different in secular vs religious terms, and positions himself explicitly and early as an orthodox jew whose religious framework is the deterministic factor, and explains from there his own position as the position of his religion specifically. Matt fails to do this and is sort of rhetorically fumbling around with his response and, as far as i remember, failed to situate his own opinion as the Catholic position, the position of a higher authority, that being the body of the Church’s teachings through not just scripture but the Magisterium as well. He really seems to get unstable when discussing these points especially with a more adversarial conversational partner, and is far less confident in asserting his religious position explicitly vs Ben in this clip. For Matt I think educating himself further would help but he does just seem kind of nervous and shaky in his voice (just the same as when he’s appeared on Catholic podcasts and the like - that is to say a non adversarial interview on religion) but native intelligence and reading habits have a huge impact on clarity of speech and depth of understanding religious doctrine. It’s fair that Walsh may not want to be the representative for Christianity or Catholicism at large and that may explain some reticence on his part vs Ben’s confident (characteristic of a lawyer as well, lol) expressive abilities in a dialogue or debate in which he is the interviewee rather than just the interviewer or giving a monologue or the like.

GREAT DISCOURSE!!!!! One of the best ones I’ve seen on this topic. One thing that sounded a miss to me though is the pop culture/quasi-scientific belief that people (essentially babies) are “BORN with a set sexuality”. I do not find this to be true. If so, then the science should be utilized/showcased time and time again, rather than anecdotal tales of “sexual realization” and using quasi-scientific/pop culture phrases to validate it. We are ALL born INNOCENT (for the most part) with sexual organs that are designed to operate with each other. Are we allowed to use them whatever we want to/with whomever we choose to? ABSOLUTELY! But until the science is verified concerning the sexuality of babies, we must ALL do our part to disallow these phrases from our spaces (AND minds) until we otherwise see fit.
It really blows my mind when I hear anyone try to spew that 'being gay is a choice' bullshit - which I'm really glad neither of them believe. But as a gay person, I've often found myself having this conversation: Them: Being gay is a choice Me: Oh it is? So basically you're saying you could wake up tomorrow, say I'm gay, and actually change whom you're attracted to? Them: Well no, because I'm straight. Me: You're not answering my question, lol
Now of days, it’s hard to distinguish who’s naturally gay or just “gay” to seek attention… Gay has been around since ancient times, it’s biblical. The point is to deny debauchery. Same goes for a straight man indulging in lust.
I don't think you understood Ben's point. He basically said being gay is a choice. While being attracted to men is not choice, living as a gay person is a choice. That is no different in practice from saying being gay is a choice. He just worded it in a way that avoids directly saying it.

Ten thousand comments and I haven't read many actually addressing the relevant points of the conversation. To me, his two main points were: 1. The government should not be in the marriage business at all. Anyone who wants to be married can be married under whatever social or religious conditions they want. The government doesn't have a say in it. 2. Orthodox Judaism has reasons for complementary marriage. If you do not agree with those reasons, you do not have to be an Orthodox Jew. So Ben is perfectly fine with his friend Dave Ruben being married to another man and Dave Ruben is perfectly fine with not being an Orthodox Jew. The only area they would have a debate is if Dave wanted to be married to another man and be an Orthodox Jew. Even then, it would be a religious and theological debate about marriage practices in Orthodox Judaism, not a question of the legality of same-sex marriage.
@@ninja68099 It's a big leap from going "no marriage for gays" to "The state shouldn't even handle marriages" A laudable thing for the government not to do, what else is he going to say? no taxes? the government should have no knowledge of who are its citizens? completely ridiculous. That's all a government does; gather money, gather data and act on those two prerequisites.
If state governments did not ban gay marriage then the federal government wouldn't have to be involved. Ben's point about the government not being involved in marriage has some issues because marriage isn't purely a personal thing. There's a legal aspect to it. Your spouse becomes your next of kin if something happens to you, there are specific privileges to being a spouse vs. being just a partner. From the state's perspective, they either have to recognize gay marriage or they have to reject it, and that by itself is the state's involvement. The state doesn't need to interfere in whether you're a vegan or you eat meat, because there's no legal element involved there, but there is with marriage.
@@Koujoung I believe Ben is saying the manner in which next of kin, property inheritance, etc. is handled should be unrelated to marriage. People can set those things up in any way they choose. It does not need to be automatically tied to marriage.

Yet as a gay man I have been to most of their celebrations. The interesting thing about that is after the years have past, many have apologized for not coming to our wedding. I love how Joe interviews. Respectful and intellectual conversation.
I do understand BOTH views. I agree more with Ben. It's cool we can talk about it. Freely.
He answered this a lot better than Matt Walsh. I don't know why Matt had a difficult time with Joe when they had this same discussion

But as a gay person, I've often found myself having this conversation:
Them: Being gay is a choice
Me: Oh it is? So basically you're saying you could wake up tomorrow, say I'm gay, and actually change whom you're attracted to?
Them: Well no, because I'm straight.
Me: You're not answering my question, lol
Now of days, it’s hard to distinguish who’s naturally gay or just “gay” to seek attention…
Gay has been around since ancient times, it’s biblical. The point is to deny debauchery. Same goes for a straight man indulging in lust.
I don't think you understood Ben's point. He basically said being gay is a choice. While being attracted to men is not choice, living as a gay person is a choice.

I mean there might've been an element of truth to the story but embellishment over decennia due to word of mouth has likely diluted it severely. As in there might've been rafts involved at one point but to make the story more epic they were removed for example.
@@dnw009 This is likely the case for the entire new testament. Jesus died and nothing was written down for at least 30 years afterwards, and his stories were told via word of mouth by superstitious Christians for decades. Of course it's full of mythology and miracles and embellishment.

Lan Krownet dude you made some pretty fuckin big leaps from 5 to 8. You suck at assumptions
Finally someone’s speaking with common sense here; a comment section is almost entirely dumb. Thank you for making good point.
8:54 this always gets me! 😂🤣😂👍
Letme just show you the paperwork
People really need to watch this, you can have person beliefs and disagreements without that meaning that people should have to conform to your will or restrict others
I bet Shapiro could rap faster than Mac Lethal
Travis Pernock he would but apparently he believes rap isn’t music
How about Eminem?
First Name Last Name I believe Mac lethal is faster than Em, Mac Lethaljust broke a speed record recently
Ben Shapiro doing rap God would be amazing.
@@twelved4983 Mac Lethal is far faster than Eminem
It's none of anyone's business what two adults do in a consensual relationship, simple as that.
Edit: Some of you missed the point, I said CONSENSUAL, so stop making weird points for your argument.
If it's consensual and between adults then it's none of your business.
JustJazro besides incest
It's in our nature to have thoughts and judgment about what we see so we can talk about what we want and express our opinions about it.
"simple as that" is so leftist
TheBlazikenBro BOI I mean technically that’s still none of your business, even if it is disgusting
That’s pretty much Shapiro’s point. It’s his personal belief, but ultimately he won’t tell you what to do and what does his personal opinion on gay marriage matter to you anyways? At least that’s what I got from it.
Being gay or straight has little to do with fucking. It's more about companionship and love. Ben is very young and so are you Joe, so you're fucking a lot. Yet as you do age fucking becomes less importance. Hence a loving and CARING concern in a relationship is what gay people want. Just like a straight couple. Also I understand how religion can cause unhappiness is families lives. in my marriage I only had 3 people from my family attend. Even my parents refused to be there. Yet as a gay man I have been to most of their celebrations. The interesting thing about that is after the years have past, many have apologized for not coming to our wedding. And even though that by have been relieving for them, it still leaves a small pain in my heart.
If it only for reperduction then how does he only have three kids in 15 years of being married, unless they have only had physical intimacy three times
You can't be this silly. No way.
I feel bad for his wife. At that point I couldn’t blame her for cheating. And when they did have sex there probably wasn’t any foreplay and he busted after 2 minutes of missionary. That’s an embarrassing sex life 😂.
How can you choose religion over sex WHEN YOU‘RE IN A RELATIONSHIP??????? It’s fucked up that religion tells teens they’re wrong for masturbating and having sex. As a teen you’re horny 24/7. i‘m so glad that religion is basically non existent in Europe
Joe rogan is an absolutely master of communication
The Atheist hahahahaha okay dude
Ben isn’t
Yeah it's his show. He manipulates it the way he wants. He asks questions in a way that corners shapiro like he's really saying " you really believe in god??? You really believe in miracles???" Because Shapiro's convictions are more towards rules than actually faith he stumbles when answering. I would be like " yup! I believe that moses parted the red sea! I believe in miracles! I believe it all!" And just let it be a discussion of belief and unbelief...which is essentially what it is
Yea he's a greatly talker absolutely English language
@bro momento the incorrect grammar in the original comment is deliberate

There are so many posts on Google that respond to the question, "is homosexuality a chosen path" yet none answer it directly. Every one I've read refuses to commit to saying anything on the matter. The fact is, of course it is, otherwise we'd all have been inundated with "facts" declaring it as not so!
3:58 - Religion fundamentally rejects the idea that you are driven to do something; therefore it is your identity. Therefore, you get to participate in a behavior.
Well said, Ben.
