Nova I will read them, I would just like you to know as well not all conservatives are pro-life. I happen to be bc I feel there are better arguments against it but some conservatives are pro choice
I also look at that as something to be much more deeply looked at.. conservatives create the environment for that to be freely debated. Take Dave Rubin (he’s a gay and pro choice conservative).. he’s celebrated in the conservative movement and allowed to speak at large conservative conventions bc he is open to dialogue. You won’t ever hear a pro life liberal speak at a liberal convention...
And to add onto that.. he created the environment of respect for people who disagree with abortion based on religious teachings. He respects that some people feel this way and don’t call them ignorant or slander them for having a faith system

@@mollypayton2828 I agree, playing word games is not real debating. A debate is supposed to be an exchange of ideas, FULL facts and opinions. There is no beating people based on an awkwardly worded sentence
What the guy should’ve said is that when someone has no consciousness, memories or signs of intelligence AND they are directly dependent upon one specific person for survival, it should be that specific persons choice whether they want to carry the burden or not. We can deem it as right or wrong, but until we ourselves can fill in that persons role as sole nurturer and provider, we should not have the right to dictate what they must do.
It's all about listening to what someone says. It's amazing how often people are inconsistent with what they say, and they don't even realize it because they've never really thought it through.
The other guy had just clearly not thought it through. Which seems to be the problem with the majority of the populations political opinions. His argument was so weak it collapsed itself, he didn't even have to really refute anything, just give him a question.
It's easier to win an argument when you stick to facts. This kid defines life using a metaphysical metric (consciousness). Had he just stuck to clinical facts he would have won. A human is clinically dead without heart and/or brain function. Ben considers an embryo to be "alive" at conception, in spite of the absence of both a heart and brain. Ben tried to justify this by stating that growth of these cells follows a predictable, measurable pattern (9months), but so does cellular death. In fact many glial cells continue to grow _after_ clinical death for a short period of time until all cellular growth ceases and yet the person is still dead. So the pattern of cellular growth is a flawed argument. "It will grow into a living human therefore it's alive." That not only tries to redefine the life/death paradigm but it assumes that the pregnancy will carry to full term, which is not guaranteed. Flawed logic.
@@Duval-In-The-Wall It saddens me the little value people have for individual unique lives. This guy can argue his points, but even as a fetus it has entirely unique DNA set up for an entirely unique life. A life that baby WILL have and experience, unless comes the event of a miscarriage , or another person intervening and killing that baby . So simple yet people choose to ignore those facts.
I understood the kid’s point, but he lost it as soon as Ben started articulating some very sensible counter examples. And he dug a deeper hole when he refused to accept that he was indeed wrong.
That’s one of the biggest issues I see with the world today, in all aspects. We refuse to admit when we are wrong. We are adamant in our positions, even when facing the truth.
Héctor Abarca while you’re right that’s an issue in today’s society, he is entitled to his own stance/opinion. You can say he’s wrong, but that would itself just be an opinion.
Ben simply diverted the topic and made a analogy and the kid went with it .... He never once argued that there is no definite time for which a person will be in coma or that if the person is unable to take a decision then the guardian should have the right to make decisions for the concerned person !
I can’t tell if you’re insulting Ben or complimenting him, but if you’re insulting him, I would say him using only 2% says more about the people arguing against Ben than it does him.
@@pokemontobias9721 what do you mean by saying "its not them anymore"? He is still the same person before he was in a coma. I agree. We should be able to have an open dialogue in a respectful manner. Especially with sensitive subjects. This is how things get done is when both sides listen to each other. May not agree but conversations can lead to longer lasting changes. Not putting people down because you have differing opinion.
@Jesus Christ atheists: if there really is God why shouldn't He stop evil in this world? ...Several passages in the bible where God actually stopped or destroyed evil in the world... Atheists: your God is a murderer!
@Jesus Christ no, not dodging the question. Simply establishing a basis of knowledge. The Amalekites were far from innocent. In fact, they were utterly depraved. What is more, they desired to destroy Israel (v. 2), God’s chosen people, the channel of His redemptive plans for all humankind (Gen. 12:1-3). The act of their total destruction was necessitated by the gravity of their sin. Otherwise, some hard core remnant might rise to resume their hateful act toward God’s people and plan. Source: defendinginerrancy.com
@Jesus Christ As to the question about the innocent children, several observations are relevant. First, we are all born in sin (Ps. 51:5) and deserve death (Rom. 5:12). Everyone will eventually be taken by God in death-it is only a matter of when (Heb. 9:27). Second, God is sovereign over life and reserves the right to take it when He will (Deut. 32:39; Job 1:21). Third, all children who die before the age of accountability are saved (see comments on 2 Sam. 12:23). Hence, the act by which God took the children is far from merciless (see also comments on Josh. 6:21). Same source as previous response.
You know what I do respect, the fact this dude stood up there, said his piece, gave ground, and was respectful throughout. Though they, and we, may disagree that right there is how you debate. What a well rounded young man.
A well rounded young man? Did you hear the part where he was ok to kill an ADULT who is in a temporary coma and will be coming out of it with some level of memory loss? They guy is a walking, talking moron, a sociopath. How in the world is that "well rounded"? We might "disagree"? WTF?!
Technically speaking he’s so stupid he might actually be brain dead saying all this nonsense so i say lets pull the plug on this dude oh wait shapiro just did
Getting an early abortion and killing someone in a coma are not nearly the same thing. We are our consciousness, not our bodies. If I had been aborted before I developed sentience, then my existence would've been prevented before I ever existed, and that is very far from killing me while I'm temporarily gone. If my existence is prevented before I ever existed, then it literally can't make a difference to me how it was done. From my perspective, an early abortion would be the exact same as if my existence was prevented with a condom, because in both cases I never got to exist. So how come one of these acts is considered very moral while the other one is considered morally abhorrent?
Kanzu999 Definition of kill: cause the death of (a person, animal, or other living thing). You are technically alive and a person so you would be killed if aborted Definition of prevent: keep (something) from happening. A condom or birth control prevents the sperm from making contact with the egg and the life happening altogether, therefore it’s preventing a life.
@@tommuggeridge5659 If my body was kept alive but was brain dead for some reason so that my consciousness and/or mind can't exist, then I'm gone even though my body is alive. So yes, it would be killing my body, but it wouldn't make any difference to me. In the same sense then yes, an early abortion would be killing the "body", the organism, but in the end the body is not what we are, so if the abortion is performed before a mind could ever exist, then you prevented that person's existence before they ever existed. I agree that life for the fetus/embryo starts at conception. I just don't agree that the body is what we are, so just because the body exists and is alive for an early stage fetus, it doesn't mean that it's inhabited by a person with moral value. But I'm curious. Where do you think moral value comes from? What is it that makes an action/behavior bad or good?
@@Robert_1685 Wait hold on. Like Ben said, a baby has no sense of identity, just like this hypothetical man with no identity or personality. But it's not okay to kill a child after it's born. How does that make sense?
@@Robert_1685 Hmm. Your argument is a well-reasoned one. However, technically, all human being are massive clusters of cells. We are all made of cells. All of these clusters of cells take roughly the same shape; the human figure. These cells, which are human, start life at the moment of conception. This must be so because if it were otherwise, the cells wouldn't grow. There must be life for growth, and no amount of feeding by the mother will restart a dead fetus. Hence, miscarriages. So we have established that life must begin at conception, we all are made of clusters of cells, and we all began as a very small cluster of cells. Following this logic, we must, as persons, have grown from those clusters of cells. Life does not begin at birth, because if so, the fetus must have been dead all during the pregnancy, which is impossible. And if the same life that grows the fetus from a cluster of cells into a baby is the same life that now sustains us as I write these words and you read them, it follows that we, as humans, were alive from the moment of conception onward, as humans.
@@Robert_1685 i would like to connect to this weirdly and surprisingly calm conversation that you are both having and state my point of view. So to begin with I am pro-life and let me explain why with the help of the guy-in-a-coma situation. The example that the guy gave us is that the person who comes out of the coma has no personal identity equal to a child that is to be born but may be aborted. So. What I want to say is - personal identity is formed AFTER the birth. Personality however is formed during the prenatal period (literature on that - "one point of view by William R. Emerson, "Some complex cases" by Joseph Wolpe, "The person in change: the process as experienced" by Carl Rogers - this is just a few of the books on this topic that are based on experiments and valid medical findings, I really suggest you and everyone else read them because they are truly eye-opening and really reader-friendly). So. If for this guy what defines a person is PERSONAL IDENTITY and not PERSONALITY, then he is SOOO wrong for killing the person in coma because of his loss of memory. Memory isn't the only thing what defines us as human beings. Yes, it adds up to our experience in this world but as I said and as it is mentioned in this literature, it is formed. It is formed everyday and it would have been formed after the person woke up from a coma - yes, the memories would be different, the person's in question identity may be understood differently by him/her, but still, this chance of creating it again after its loss would be regained just as it would be gained after a child is born. Another thing is that in my personal opinion, if a woman got pregnant - it is her responsibility to take care of her actions. If you got pregnant BY ENGAGING IN SEXUAL ACTIVITIES WITH CONSENT GIVEN, you knew that there was a chance for you to get pregnant. If a woman got pregnant after that CONSENTUAL sexual interaction usually she is in the known of the pregnancy after 3 weeks (statistical evidence, also). What is happening with a woman's body? An umbilical cord is formed, the baby is starting to develop internal organs, bones, tiny limbs and a primal structure of brains. Imagine what changes a woman's body has to go through and how stressful it is for the same body, that went through all that to experience a "cleanse" of it all. One of the biggest problems women face after getting pregnant AFTER an abortion is having a preterm birth or pow birthweight which results in complications during the very first crucial stages of a baby's development. In my opinion there are just a couple of situations in which abortion can be a way of solving a "problem" - rape or risk for a mother's life while giving birth or having this risk while carrying the baby. If i am forgetting something similar to these situations - please excuse me, these are the ones that come to mind at this moment. I believe that the change of abortion rates can only drop with the change in the way people act and how they solve the consequences of their actions : don't have unprotected sex, don't engage in sexual activities while in the stage (age) of not being able to give consent or not being in the known of the consequences of your actions (probable "need" for abortion at a your age) - these things should be implemented to the youth at their age when they may start to think of engaging in these kinds of activities (lets say from the age of 12-13).
To be fair, this guy was really easy.. Anyone could say why killing someone in a 9 month coma is fucking insane murder.. He started out sounding like a smart guy, and then he said THAT... Like what the fuck?
So if a guy stands up in a crowd and states that we never went to moon, or a "sovereign citizen" states that he can "travel" with no license and insurance like the rest of us, and both stick with the nonsense they are spouting, that they deserve "props"? Insane.
There is a pre-existing "life" -- it belongs to the girl or woman. Now, Ben is free to handle the birth control end of any arrangement he engages in. If the tech ever gets to that point he is free to have the fertilzed egg placed somewhere in his body and go for it. He does NOT have the right to tell any girl or woman what she will or will not allow to grow in her own body. She is not a brood mare -- an animal with no rights -- no matter what he or whatever sky god he believes is in charge may want to think. We will not be cowed -- or horsed -- by you people.

@T K Interesting. I would say that Ben Shapiro is libertarian-conservative in most areas. So are you a liberal pro-lifer? Thats a rare breed these days
Only because the guy was clearly out of his depth in debating the issue, not because Ben is necessarily right. Within the first trimester the fetus does not have a fully developed brain and has yet to attain brainwave activity. An Alzheimer's patient does still have brainwave activity and therefore his comparison is flawed and falls apart right there, only the guy debating him didn't pick up on that.
@@RadicalUnderstanding And yet it doesn't begin to exhibit brain activity until within 5 to six week of conception. And even then it cannot feel pain, as it is unable to do so until at least 12 weeks in to the pregnancy. If it can be aborted without any suffering what so ever then I see nothing ethically wrong with it. I mean if we're going to respect the bodily autonomy of the woman it strikes me as a no brain. Put it this way. If a mother, or even a father for that matter had a child that was in need of bone marrow transplant and either one could donate their own to save their child's life would they be obligated to do so? I mean we can't begin forcing people to donate their essentially have their body used against their will to benefit another, so why should a woman be forced against to have hers in the benefit of a fetus. It just strikes me as inconsistent when it comes to anatomical rights to prevent a woman to have an abortion on those moralistic grounds alone.
@@robertmcelwaine7024 yes but that child is going to be perfectly fine when it fully develops. Just like the person in a coma they may not feel anything right now but later may or will get better.
@@charliehendrix1265 Poor analogy. A coma patient doesn't benefit via the autonomy of someone else to go on living whereas a fetus does. Therefore you can't ignore the anatomical rights of the mother. If she wouldn't be morally obligated to have any part of her body used to benefit her child after it's born then why should she therefore be obligated to carry an unborn fetus that is benefiting the from the use of her body against her will? Otherwise there is an inconsistency in her anatomical rights. Sorry, but her rights trump those of a fetus that isn't even yet fully developed, and it's not as if it would make any difference to a child that never go on to fully exist.
@Neevan Thapa Don't hope that somebody doesn't fall into a coma? So, hope they fall into a coma? I remember that I didn’t exactly know what abortion was, I do remember that I knew the baby died because of it. Then I saw some of those same videos and I became a firm believer in the rights of the unborn
I think I saw the video, the Doctor had an adopted daughter that was killed in a car accident, and when he did a 24 week old abortion, he saw legs and arms of the baby and so after a while he stopped.
That was Dr. Levantine I think. He has a few videos describing the tools used for each type of abortion on UA-cam I’m pretty sure. There’s also videos describing each kind of abortion in a drawn/cartoonish form. Edit: here’s one link I found: ua-cam.com/video/5THDmys8z30/v-deo.html

The doctor should decide whether or not they want to keep the patient alive. If the equipment needed to keep that comatose person alive is his, he has every right to pull the plug cause it's his property. In the case of the woman, she should have the right to terminate a the fetus because her body is her property. You can murder anyone even children if they traspass on your property.
@Mickey Merzon I am being serious. Nobody has the right to your own property. A fetus doesn't have ownership to the body of a woman. Is that too radical? Look into what Ayn Rand and Barry Goldwater believed in when it came to abortion and you wouldn't find it so radical.

My wife and I recently had our first child. We went through the massive ups and downs of pregnancy, and now our son is coming up on five months. It's incredibly difficult for me to imagine people advocating for abortion after seeing and feeling the real and vivid experience that is bringing a baby into the world, and the frankly obvious life that grows during that time. But above all, it's something you truly cannot understand until you're there in those moments. You simply cannot know what you're shutting down, and for those who say "Well I just don't want to know" that is an immeasurable tragedy.
This is not an argument , its just personal experience and 100% emotional , not logical . The abortion debate is not as simple as "its a life so its bad"

Quality of life, is that valuable? According to the WHO, people end their own lives at a rate of 1 person / every 40 seconds. I get that Ben wants to give the strongest points to show his values are superior but at the other spectrum, euthanasia... It's not that simple but in certain cases, I could see merit for such a procedure. I agree, abortion isn't preferable but making it illegal isn't going to stop it from happening just as making euthanasia illegal isn't going to stop suicides. There is a whole other level of discussion to be had about surrounding factors but in the mean time, having abortion as an option is probably the most healthy way of dealing with pregnant people not wanting to give birth.

@Mary Yeah should've figured out that you think that life is merely just about memories. Your nihilistic perception of life is i hope temporary and, i truly wish to God that you will never have a loved one get amnesia or any memory loss of some sort.
"So just to get this straight....killing fluffy the hamster. Deeply wrong. Killing a dude whos about to wake up from a coma in 9 months with memory problems. Totally cool."😂😂😂 Love Ben's analogies
The problem is, that the analogy doesn't work. If the hamster was in coma and had similar problems it would be the same. And those hamsters are euthanized so? :D
The problem is that a fetus has no personal identity, connections to others, or consciousness, so they're a false equivalence really. The guy brought up the point early on but I guess he got flustered and forgot about it. If he had stuck to his guns it might been a bit more interesting.
Sophie Rodgers that’s not true. The nervous system is developed in the first trimester. With that the baby can feel pain. And abortion is not illegal. It was just legalized up until birth in New York.
Sophie Rodgers how do you know though and how is it proven that the baby can’t feel pain up to a certain point? You can’t exactly ask them to be sure, so honestly it’s all just a guess. Like someone else stated, the nervous system is one of the first things to happen in development, I’m not convinced they can’t feel pain until a certain age in weeks.

You won’t ever hear a pro life liberal speak at a liberal convention...

Kanzu999 life starts at conception, so a comdom does prevent you from living but an abortion is actually killing you because you are a life.
Kanzu999
Definition of kill: cause the death of (a person, animal, or other living thing).
You are technically alive and a person so you would be killed if aborted
Definition of prevent: keep (something) from happening.
A condom or birth control prevents the sperm from making contact with the egg and the life happening altogether, therefore it’s preventing a life.
@@Kanzu999 You existed before you knew you did. And now that you know, are you happy that you do?

@gradeaovera he didn’t twist any thing he said or put anything in his mouth, dude is just a freak
You idiot, he said
Just to get this straight
And that's why all right wingers are racists and bigots!

Otherwise there is an inconsistency in her anatomical rights. Sorry, but her rights trump those of a fetus that isn't even yet fully developed, and it's not as if it would make any difference to a child that never go on to fully exist.
