Nintendo is a fascinating example of a company that's been able to continuously compete in a winner take all market via the strength of their IP💪. Games like Mario Bros and Zelda have such a large pull that they can bring users to their often inferior platforms (though in the current generation the Switch's portability is a powerful differentiator). I think Nintendo is the success story while SEGA is the cautionary tale. Sega's IP just wasn't poular enough to bring users to the Saturn and Dreamcast. If Sega could've developed a larger variety of successful properties and avoided some of their infamous missteps, we all might be playing a new age version of the Sega Nomad today instead of the Switch! 👾
The first 3 minutes is like a nostalgia trip for me. I've been following the progress of this system since the days when Wii U was Nintendo's latest console and their wasn't any announcement of a new console, an NX if you will. Back then there was 1 rumour that kick started everything. If your old enough to remember, that rumour was the Nintendo Fusion. A handheld/home console hybrid that would completely revolutionise gaming and 6 yrs on from those days I can say that Nintendo is truly back dominating the Gaming industry once more. Bring on the PS5 & Xbox SX, we got Zelda BotW 2,Metroid Prime 4,Beyonetta 3, Pikmin 4 and a plethora of other hard hitting titles on the way.

I then went to check the next day, and I asked and employee to see if they had one. He went in the back and lord and behold, he came out with both console color options! I was actually shaking and I had trouble speaking. It was one of the greatest days of my life. BTW, I obviously chose the neon red and blue joy con version.

Johnny Gat Everyone who uses a switch regularly will have to deal with drifting at some point. Luckily it’s pretty easy to take apart the joycons and replace the joy stick. I’ve only had to do it a couple times and I’ve had the switch since launch. Of course, it’s not ideal and it should not be happening as often as it does but at least it’s pretty cheap to fix yourself.
4:40 One thing to keep in mind is how many of the biggest Switch games started on the Wii U (Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Tropical freeze, new mario bros U, poketournament, captain toad, Splatoon, wonderful 101) Nintendo had 5 years to build a strong library of games that they could quickly port over to the switch, and really pad out the library
@@crono6874 Breath of the wild was a Wii U title that moved over to the switch. It was 4 or 5 years in the making, and moved over to the switch fairly late in development Splatoon 2 and Mario Maker 2 are "new" games, but more importantly they are sequels to franchises born on the Wii U. I dont want to get bogged down in semitics of ports vs remasters vs remakes vs sequels vs simultaneous releases, the point is how well Nintendo leveraged the R&D of Wii U, to boost the success of the switch.
To be honest, the Wii U easily could have also been a success, too. All it would take would be better marketing and 3rd party support. It did everything else very well, but just did not work out. I own a Wii U and it is a terrific console. The only problem was that it didn't get into many households. The Wii U offered so much during its run, but it did not seem to gain attention. To put that in perspective, here are things the Wii U had that heavily impacts the Switch's success: -Idea of portability -A bunch of ports/sequels -Amiibo -Breath of The Wild -And most importantly, something to look back on, to further improve the Switch The Wii U is basically the foundation of the Nintendo Switch, and without it, the Switch would be just as low-selling. It is clear growth, seeing that Nintendo fixed their advertisements, when you compare the Wii U's to the Switch's. So don't sleep on the Wii U, calling it a 'Flop'. See it as a learning point, and not as a 'horrible failure.' It may be a just a joke, but it us not right to hammer the Wii U down. I am very happy with my Switch, and grateful for what the Wii U has done for it. Thank you Wii U for giving the Switch its success!
I used to go there for a Wii I purchased there many years ago before that happened. Great experience for my life. I hope it does get repaired back to normalcy after it got destroyed. Looters keep ruining everything and they need to stop!
Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Pokémon Sword/Shield and great ports that let you take your console favorites anywhere. Switch will probably be one of those consoles we all look back on with a lot of nostalgia like the N64 and Gamecube
the switch and its pro controller both adopted USB-C, if it hadnt i wouldnt call it a lifestyle console. i can charge my phone, laptop, headphones, and even my gaming console and its controller, all with my 1 phone charger. theres no inconvience taking it with me anywhere i go.
Lemons ua-cam.com/video/u6INIHrZBGg/v-deo.html It’s 3rd party docs that’s requesting WAAY too much voltage over time that fries the switch. Above 9V in USB-PD 18W profile. However if your phone can’t take 18W, there’s a good chance that the Stock Switch charger can fry your stuff. In general it seems a charger that won’t supply over 9V/2A won’t fry your stuff. switchchargers.com/how-nintendo-switch-charging-works/ A 15V draw will fry your stuff over time. Watts ( Volts + Amps).
That's funny because I've always seen USB-C as an inconvenience as pretty much everything I owned used Micro USB and I couldn't see any real benefit to using USB-C so whenever I would get a device that used it it was a pain because I didn't have any USB-C cables because I had no use for them.
Yeh I would agree actually. I've noticed them grow and change in a very positive way over the last few years. They still make outrageously bizarre decisions from time to time though, then again by now I've just accepted that it's just what they do lol
i’ve always loved nintendo. the game boy was a gaming system i’ve dreamt of having for years now, after hearing my mom had one. i also later found out that they had the nes system too. it made my heart happy to know that my parents grew up with something that i grew up with. my first console was the dsi, when i was 8, and then i got a wii around 10. i fell in love with them. around 13, i drifted away from the systems and became obsessed with my phone. now, i’m almost 16 and have found my love for nintendo again. it’s crazy how far nintendo has come, and it seems like it won’t stop being successful for a long time. i mean, nintendo was always a known brand and it still is. its like apple, it doesn’t seem to go. i hope soon i’ll be able to get the nintendo switch, so i can experience more of nintendo’s amazing products. my siblings recently rediscovered our wii and are obsessed with mario at only 3 years old and 6 years old.
Move away from your phone. I'm 10 years older than you, and I can tell that investing time in your phone is wasted, but investing time in your consoles is not.
@@vision8641 Yep, from NES to Gamecube, Nintendo did go for graphics, up until the wii they decided it's time to get funky. I am glad they chose to not go for graphics anymore because we would just have three companies putting out a console that's not mainly going for any other type of innovation away from graphics. I have nothing against consoles that mainly strive for graphics but it's nice to have an option that is different from the others.
Switch is such a great console. They nailed it. Handheld and tv play for every game, with gyro aiming now standardized for games across the board, has raised the bar to the point I just can’t play on PS4 and X1 anymore. If I can’t use gyro aiming I’m not interested, and if I can’t take the game with me, it feels regressive. Switched to a gaming PC for the more demanding games that Switch can’t run well, where at least I still can map gyro aiming.
It’s honestly so crazy how much people are reselling it now. They’re literally ripping you off. I told myself that I would not spend over 500 or 600 for a console no matter how desperate I am. It was either I tried to buy one during restock or I’d just get the lite. But thank god after failing to get the previous 2 restock i finally got one today.
Kat I live in the UK so a lot of the purchase has to be done online. But I highly recommend you go on stock informer and get email or WhatsApp notifications on the switch. So whenever the switch is in stock they’ll notify you. But sometimes you might miss them, cuz the other day I had two notification on restock, one website they sent the email to me very late almost an hour later when the switch was in stock. And luckily the same day they sent me another notification right on time and that’s how I was able to get one. But I also recommended checking online everyday, open tabs on your phone of nintendo switch in different website and refresh it once in a while, I hear Nintendo say they’re doing restock in June, so check everyday. I think if you live in the US sometimes the stores restock it in stores, I’ve seen quiet a few UA-camrs say they got lucky when they were passing by, so I think it’s best to check online and in-store. But stock informer you should definitely sign up for almost everyone is doing that now.
Cons: The Nintendo Dock can scratch the system regardless of its design or careful placement. Edit: The designers of the Nintendo Switch should have added a microfiber padding that allows the console to smoothly slide up and down without plastic-to-plastic contact.
I fell in love with the Switch once I realized that you can see an update pending, go into the game, save, close, download and install update, reboot, and be playing the game in less than a minute. I'm pretty excited for the PS5's SSD just because of that. But the Switch is still going to be on top, because I won't be able to take the PS5 to the toilet. Not to mention that when a game comes out on the Switch, especially first party Nintendo games, they need very few patches. Borderlands 3 has had 50+ patches since October. Smash Ultimate has had like 15 and was out a full year before. Spaltoon 2 comes close to BL3, with 46 patches, but it was released in 2017.
Which is why I bought the Nintendo Switch v.2 cause I needed bets of both package, as much as I played on my Nintendo 3DS XL. I sold my PSP/PS Vita just for the this, cause I hate Sony for it's failure in handheld gaming category.
I held off on the switch because I thought $300 was too high and I wanted the price to come down. Now people are selling it for more than that after 3 years and you can't find it in stores. Crazy
I dont need another console than switch, i have a laptop i use with gamepass and newest multiplat games, i cant see the reason for getting a Xbox or PlayStation honestly
Proud switch owner here but man the prices are crazy now. I bought a new one a week ago for $400. Not happy but no other option currently because my old one died
I actually was hyped for the switch back when it was called the nx in 2015. When I got mine at launch people in public were like what’s that and I was like oh it’s a Nintendo switch lol.
Nintendo is one of the world's best video game companies, and without question the Nintendo Switch was a major improvement over the Wii U. Overall in terms of fan loyalty Sony and Microsoft have gained respect in regards to their Playstation and XBOX brands for their consoles. I would hope Sega and Atari do come to develop new games in the market as well as third party developers having them been former heavyweights in the video game industry. Nintendo if they can manage to develop a console in the future better then the PS5 and XBOX series one and continue the amazing quality of games they will regain the market share. The Switch will be the console though for some more years until the lifetime of the console is past and then the Nintendo 8 would come out in the market. As a fan of gaming I hope that VR and AR technology along with online capabilities and next level graphics would be something we would see in a future Nintendo console after the Nintendo Switch. One of the reasons Sony and Microsoft managed to do better then Nintendo, is mostly because they developed exceptional consoles even though Nintendo as a first party developer is considered one of the best video game companies in the world. Maybe Sega and Atari should consider joining forces with Nintendo to develop their future console and gaming library. It would be interesting to see that if it were to happen. While the mobile market has many gamers, in general fans who appreciate games know the development of games in consoles is far superior to the quality of games you would see in a inexpensive mobile game. Nintendo's Switch isn't Nintendo's best console honestly as I would have to say consoles like the Nintendo 64, Super NES and even NES showed some of their best potential. Their handhelds also been phenomenal over the years with genius design especially the revolutionary 3DS which allowed gamers to play games without 3D Glasses.
I got sober right before the world shut down. If I didn't own a nintendo switch during this time I'd in all seriousness prbly be a dead man. After coming back from rehab as sad as it is to say the regular family work routine doesn't cut it at first. I needed a hobby. I had a switch. I can't put into words how much being able to put hours and hours into my first months of early sobriety helped me.
I got my switch during Quarentine and it was almost impossible to find the original switch. Im glad i was able to get it and i wish i was able to get it when it first came out
The fact Ive been able to play Nintendo exclusive and 3rd party home console quality games on the go has been a huge game changer. I will buy whatever Nintendo is selling every generation bc they have proven to me over my lifespan that I am getting a quality gaming experience with them if nothing else.
Animal crossing and creating that sense of connectedness was something that will never happen again and nintendo profited a lot from that. My fiancé friends who made fun of guys for playing video games and even girl who always trashed video games bought a switch just for that. Same with guys who bullied people for playing games. The switch was a slam dunk and helped push gaming into the mainstream more than it ever was.
PC and Switch and ur good to go. I once was going for graphics but later realized that a cool looking game with bad gameplay isn't a game at all. And Nintendos style is, even though not realistic, great. But more importantly, their games are well made. I mean they're so well made that I love Link's Awakening on the Switch, which basically the same game as 27 years ago. (ik, it has been reworked to be more playable, but the game itself is the same)

no, sweety, it was a day 1 reveal obsession 😂

It really shows the power of a first movers advantage paired perfectly with continous innovative differentiators
Miyamoto & co always comes up with something different.
Majority of my Switch library came from Sega. The only Nintendo game I have is Astral Chain. Lol
Agree. I didn't care for the Switch until Smash Bros and Pokemon Lets Go came out. Then I suddenly wanted one!

I remember lol those were exciting moments
I can tell you’re still pretty young by saying wiiu was a thing “back in the day”. give it like 4 more years and it will clasify as “back in the day”

Sadly, I don’t know if any of those will ever see release other than BotW 2
9:23 how is a switch an "extra games console when, in 3 years it already sold more than what Xbox One did the 6 1/2 years?
It's not an extra or complementary console. It's the majorities main console. It's outpacing the PS4 ffs!
@@davidtmedia3866 Ya, since the start of this year it's sold almost double that the PS4 has sold!
it is with the PC.

It’s around 3 years old but it still feels so new
I bought my Switch last year September in Japan. It said "used", but it was in perfect condition!
I swear, God literally intervened and I just barely found a brand new switch at Walmart. I came to check one day, and they said they had none in stock. I then went to check the next day, and I asked and employee to see if they had one. He went in the back and lord and behold, he came out with both console color options! I was actually shaking and I had trouble speaking. It was one of the greatest days of my life. BTW, I obviously chose the neon red and blue joy con version.
Grey > Neon

Johnny Gat Everyone who uses a switch regularly will have to deal with drifting at some point. Luckily it’s pretty easy to take apart the joycons and replace the joy stick. I’ve only had to do it a couple times and I’ve had the switch since launch. Of course, it’s not ideal and it should not be happening as often as it does but at least it’s pretty cheap to fix yourself.

One thing to keep in mind is how many of the biggest Switch games started on the Wii U (Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Tropical freeze, new mario bros U, poketournament, captain toad, Splatoon, wonderful 101)
Nintendo had 5 years to build a strong library of games that they could quickly port over to the switch, and really pad out the library
Zelda BOTW didn't start on Wii U it was a simultaneous launch on both. Splatoon 2 released on Switch not Wii U... You're right about the others though
@@crono6874
Breath of the wild was a Wii U title that moved over to the switch. It was 4 or 5 years in the making, and moved over to the switch fairly late in development
Splatoon 2 and Mario Maker 2 are "new" games, but more importantly they are sequels to franchises born on the Wii U.
I dont want to get bogged down in semitics of ports vs remasters vs remakes vs sequels vs simultaneous releases, the point is how well Nintendo leveraged the R&D of Wii U, to boost the success of the switch.
I know but as a company I dont blame them. Those WiiU games were actually quite good and deserved another chance.
Now it's sitting at over 8 million and soaring.
I own a custom PC with an RTX3090 and I am still glued to the Switch, it's just awesome!
“A new threat on the horizon, mobile gaming” yeah ok
To be honest, the Wii U easily could have also been a success, too. All it would take would be better marketing and 3rd party support. It did everything else very well, but just did not work out. I own a Wii U and it is a terrific console. The only problem was that it didn't get into many households. The Wii U offered so much during its run, but it did not seem to gain attention. To put that in perspective, here are things the Wii U had that heavily impacts the Switch's success:
-Idea of portability
-A bunch of ports/sequels
-Amiibo
-Breath of The Wild
-And most importantly, something to look back on, to further improve the Switch
The Wii U is basically the foundation of the Nintendo Switch, and without it, the Switch would be just as low-selling.
I just bought a Nintendo Switch last month. Best decision in my life.
The amount of ports the Switch has and that are on the way, is insane!

Above 9V in USB-PD 18W profile.
However if your phone can’t take 18W, there’s a good chance that the Stock Switch charger can fry your stuff.

That's funny because I've always seen USB-C as an inconvenience as pretty much everything I owned used Micro USB and I couldn't see any real benefit to using USB-C so whenever I would get a device that used it it was a pain because I didn't have any USB-C cables because I had no use for them.

So glad I got mine this past black Friday, it's truly a great system for parties
Bought mine last year with breath of the wild best game ever!! (Imo)
Satrou Iwata is up in heaven so proud and Hiroshi Yamauchi too
i’ve always loved nintendo. the game boy was a gaming system i’ve dreamt of having for years now, after hearing my mom had one. i also later found out that they had the nes system too. it made my heart happy to know that my parents grew up with something that i grew up with. my first console was the dsi, when i was 8, and then i got a wii around 10. i fell in love with them. around 13, i drifted away from the systems and became obsessed with my phone. now, i’m almost 16 and have found my love for nintendo again. it’s crazy how far nintendo has come, and it seems like it won’t stop being successful for a long time. i mean, nintendo was always a known brand and it still is. its like apple, it doesn’t seem to go. i hope soon i’ll be able to get the nintendo switch, so i can experience more of nintendo’s amazing products. my siblings recently rediscovered our wii and are obsessed with mario at only 3 years old and 6 years old.
Move away from your phone. I'm 10 years older than you, and I can tell that investing time in your phone is wasted, but investing time in your consoles is not.
NoctLightCloud thank you for that advice!! i’m definitely going to start saving up to get new consoles and games!!
The only console I respect for not going after graphics.
@Mike Tran I was referring to the current generation but ok what? The N64 was aiming for the new 64 bit at the time.
FE3H, XCDE and BOTW all look absolutely amazing, though stories are their primary selling point.
The game cube went after graphics

I feel exactly the same dude. PS4 is my supplement console. I got plenty of video's on the matter if you want to check them out.
Where did you get it. I was surprised how much it costs on ebay
Jamie Sweet I got mine for 390 new! I think I was lucky if u want the site that I bought it form just ask me it’s super sweet
To consider Google's Stadia a competitor to Nintendo would be a funny joke, if it weren't so pathetic.
I don't know what's next for Nintendo, but I love my switch.
Cons: The Nintendo Dock can scratch the system regardless of its design or careful placement.
Edit: The designers of the Nintendo Switch should have added a microfiber padding that allows the console to smoothly slide up and down without plastic-to-plastic contact.
Overblown myth. Mine never got scratched. And you can just get a screen protector....
Put a case that fits in the dock and don't have to worry about scratches
Mine hasnt scratched after years. You must just be rough with it.
I’ve had mine for a year and it hasn’t scratched
Pro: Don't use the gen 1 dock, use a protector. You shelled out 300, what's 15?
Crazy
Wait and get one fingers crossed
I dont need another console than switch, i have a laptop i use with gamepass and newest multiplat games, i cant see the reason for getting a Xbox or PlayStation honestly

Some of this comment didn’t age well as the Switch has outsold the PS4 to become the 3rd best selling console of all time.

Animal crossing and creating that sense of connectedness was something that will never happen again and nintendo profited a lot from that. My fiancé friends who made fun of guys for playing video games and even girl who always trashed video games bought a switch just for that. Same with guys who bullied people for playing games. I once was going for graphics but later realized that a cool looking game with bad gameplay isn't a game at all. And Nintendos style is, even though not realistic, great.
