Nice video but it misses one important thing: quality control. As you get older, you learn something about Nintendo that most people can’t articulate: Nintendo is the Name Brand in gaming. They dont just make appealing games. They make mechanically rich games. Their games have few bugs. And their games are good GAMES. This laser focus on quality makes a Nintendo system a very easy purchase. If you’re in the know, then you know you have to have a Nintendo. Mario may be a kid’s game but that’s secondary to it being an excellent GAME. and when people feel it and play it, they’ll always eventually come back. That’s the hook.
well said indeed. i like that term mechanically rich games. every afternoon i have that itch to test my reflexes, and ps5 as much as i love it have nothing to offer but fifa and some souls games, when nintendo makes their core around that reflex examination. most of the games are plug and play, without a 5 minute cutscene.
I like the Kids game remark, because I have seen a lot of people that claimed that those are "Kids games" get addicted to them. because in the end, it does not matter. What matters is that theyre FUN :)
@@singleorigin3194 This is so true, when I think of playing PS5 I think about all the cutscenes and talking I might have to go through to get to exciting gameplay.
As some of the other gamers in the comments are mentioning, it is crucial to understand that hardcore gamers also find Nintendo games appealing because of their incredibly creative gameplay. Other AAA companies try to make their games appealing due to graphics, physics, or a good story, but always on the side of realism. Nintendo goes crazy and doesn't really care about an "adult" storytelling, allowing the gamer to have a direct experience of sheer gameplay.
That maybe true, but sometimes I wish that maybe Nintendo could take some lessons from the triple AAA companies and go into depth with their stories and graphics. At least in a way that is not hidden from the cute little characters in their games. Also make it in a way that is not talked down to or annoyed the player of these games.
@@M567dk I think the AAA game spent too much resource on their AAA aspects…… every company has limited resources, so if they spend too much on graphics (which cost majority part of funding) , they have to cut the rest …… You can see the most AAA game falls into same pattern any no will to change it at all ……..
@@M567dk I absolutely agree. Just explaining to someone who may find it strange why a “hardcore” gamer may still be interested in playing the newest Mario or Zelda games
@@M567dk They don't have to "take lessons", because what you are describing would literally be a bad idea for them. Their games are produced with a much more modest budget. They don't want to have budgets in the hundreds of millions.
@@erikkulovesfauna Splatoon 1 was made in 2015. Arms were made in 2017. There has been new ips here and there. It won't be as popular as Mario or Zelda. Some of the new ips don't sell well. Metroid is making a come back. You will see a Kirby game. You might see old ips coming back that is doing well on the switch. You will see some. Switch is getting old, so they might think about the idea of new hardware soon. That usually comes with games.
Something not mentioned here is that Nintendo games are major standouts because of their gameplay. Sure you can have amazing ray tracing graphics, in depth stories, multidimensional characters, but most games on Xbox and ps5 have pretty standard gameplay. For example, Mario odyssey is easy to pick up and finish the story. But the real game is finding and getting the moons. Many of which require immense skills. I don’t need to remember crazy amount of button controls, where the story is where I left off. Just simple gameplay that gets challenging.
Very true. I honestly think with enough time, Xenoblade Chronicles will overtake Final Fantasy in terms of sales. The bang for the buck you get is insane. Other companies would repackage each as 3 separate games. It's their best new IPs in the past 15ish years imo.
It's also a richly *varied* lineup of IPs. Mario is wildly different from Zelda which is different from Fire Emblem which is different from Metroid. My Switch library is a lot more diverse than my Playstation library.
Zelda is the type of game where after going through one dungeon, *you become addicted.* The dungeons are literally a series of problem-solving escape rooms.
This is so true, not many other companies can make the gameplay as nuanced yet natural feeling as Nintendo. Playing Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild you can really feel the polish in every step you take. Other games might have more realistic animations but it feels like youre not as in control of the character Also, you can tell these people are just reporting the business side, and don't play games all that much. (I mean look at that Tetris gameplay lol)
Let me say it once again: Nintendo doesnt want to best hardwere and so on. That would just not make sense with their games. Nintendo wants good games, that appeal to everyone. And they have done that quite well.
@@ultimatebreak827 You could say the Same for PS4 and Xbox One. That generation was pushing high def graphics over performance, which was annoying. Nintendo will eventually release their new gen console at some point. And not all their games are 60fps. Switch is 6 years old. Its obvious dated. It was just really impressive for its time because no other console was capable of doing something like it.
Innovation except being far behind competitors in online digital store, online multiplayer, streaming to your phone or computer, wireless Bluetooth, 3G, OLED, Twitch/UA-cam, Discord voice chat, Blu-ray, cloud saving, HD content, ray tracing, powerful raw specs, and so on. Sure Nintendo is innovative, but let's not pretend it _always_ pushed new ideas and that other gaming companies didn't. Nintendo can be frustratingly slow to adopt certain industry standards like HD, or a fully functioning online multiplayer. Heck how long have we been without online multiplayer on Nintendo, only to deal with friend codes and pre baked Nintendo chosen messages instead of a real messaging system?
This is better analysis than CNBC's some financial analyst's view of why Nintendo is on the rise. It's the characters and their games that attracts many people, not the graphics or high end consoles. CNBC just had it all wrong about Nintendo.
@@ॐIo In an era that sees year after year of games trying too hard to become more like Hollywood movies, Nintendo just made a movie more like a game. I can't remember the last game I played where the story was what made it a good GAME. Nintendo gets that the best stories in games are ones that we want to tell our friends about later, not necessarily the ones that were storyboarded. It was often noted that Shigeru Miyamoto hates stories and loves "scenarios" or "conflicts." His influence at Nintendo is why we have so much more control over what happens in Nintendo games, relative to the more linear story-encumbered Western games. If you and your friends all played a story game, you likely had very similar, curated experiences that matched the creators' expectations. When you and your friends play a Nintendo game, you're all telling stories of what happened to you and how you overcame unique problems due to your choices. The emergent story is really special.

@sethmontanna they don't make Pokemon, first off. Secondly, Mario and Zelda, despite having multiple entries, all play differently, they bring in new mechanics, so you're not playing the same game over, and over again. I remember telling someone: "There are only two consoles and Nintendo." My point being that only two console companies are ACTUALLY competing against each other; Nintendo stands alone. It just occupies so much history with people; everyone has time for Nintendo.
Nintendo set itself apart with the Wii release. They decided to go their own way and it was a smart move, because there are a lot of people that have ab xbox or a ps AND a Switch
@@andrealorenzini5099 It was a genius move. They now don't directly compete with Sony and MS, their hardware is very different and so are their games. There's no reason not to get a Switch even if you already own a PS5 or an Xbox.
I bought nintendo one year ago. I play it a lot because I never forget to bring it with me wherever I go and I am very satisfied with nintendo. Also, What makes nintendo more appealing to me is their exclusive games such as mario, zelda, and pokemon. So, even though some people start to talk about steam deck recently, I still think nintendo is still a better choice.
@jacobb3573 You've got to remember that causal players don't care about hardware or graphics. They play for the games themselves. I know tons of people who are always willing to play the new mario, zelda, etc, but I don't think they'd throw those games out to get a steam deck and play assassins creed just because of the frame rate and graphics.
@Jacob B A casual would never spend that much money on the Steamdeck, which would then require them to spend a lot of time setting it up and understanding how it works. But they can easily afford the Switch, and the console is extremely easy and intuitive. The SteamDeck can't compete with the Switch because they focus on different crowd altogether.
@TheMahayanist And this is why steamdeck isn't selling and has no market. It doesn't actually have any games it's only redeemable attribute is piracy. Casuals aren't gonna want to waste time on shady websites looking for emulators and Roms where they can buy a system where everything will just work out of the box.
The ''for everyone'' when we talk about Nintendo, it's very true but also extremely hard and complicated to achieve, and this is why only Nintendo can really do that They can make games and consoles that can be enjoyed by a 4 year old all the way up to someone who's 100 year old, and from a super casual gamer all the way up to the most hardcore gamer If you like gaming you like Nintendo, is as simple as that
I think showing off the “for everyone” branding is a big struggle, yeah. Splatoon, for example, is seen by most as just a “kid’s game” and don’t take it seriously, but I can tell you, there is DEFINITELY a competitive scene.
I never understood why people like Mario I’m sorry I just never did. It’s not appealing to me on a deep emotional level like sonic and other franchises. Mario kart is fun to play in a group setting, but I don’t really think much about it like I do others

Having successful handhelds helped Nintendo survive multiple generations where they failed to keep up with the competition, at least sales wise (aside from the first Wii). I am a Nintendo hand held geek, I own every single handheld (main iterations) they have released, personal favourites being GBA micro and SP.
Switch OLED is too beautiful. The fact that you can bring your console on the go, and dock it on the big screen is just amazing. I have my PS4 but I work most of the time, so I appreciate how Switch is able to adjust to people like me. Zelda Breath of The Wild is just breathtaking, and most of the games are really, really good. I am hoping for Nintendo's continued success and in bringing more good games in the future.
No matter how old I get, Mario and all of Nintendo will always have a special place in my heart. If I ever get to my dad's age, I know that hearing Mario's voice will instantly make me feel young again.
REally good strategy by Nintendo. Its their exclusive games that kinda force people to purchase their outdated hardware. They can only pull this off if they have a good IP, and Nintnedo has a huge list of amazing IPs .
Exactly. They are very well made, but they don't need the best technology to operate. Mario Kart doesn't need some super fast processor, it is a bare bones but amazing game. Same with Mario, Kirby etc.
In the 90’s, Game Boy was co-existing alongside 16-bit and 32-bit consoles, proving that game play reigns over technological prowess. So if the Game Boy can be successful, then of course the Nintendo Switch, with its gorgeous portable HD graphics will succeed as well.
The funniest thing is that there are a couple of things this video doesn't mention - firstly, while Nintendo _primarily_ focuses on more family-friendly fare, they have been known to publish more mature games - they were publishing Rare's more mature games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark back in the day, as well as publishing Bayonetta 2 and 3, which are, well, far from family-friendly. Also, Metroid, to a somewhat lesser extent. Secondly, they have a habit of sneaking in scary and dark content into their games on occasion, such as, well, basically half of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Splatoon's entire setting being the distant aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse that drove humanity to extinction (no, seriously, the games aren't even _subtle_ about it) and even Rosalina's backstory from Super Mario Galaxy explicitly revolves around the death of her mother and her coming to terms with it.
That is part of the folklore, but the children will not know about that dark part. They see a funny game and will play it without thinking or knowing about that folkore which was created to appeal to the more mature audience.

Nintendo was asked why their games are rarely ever on sale or at a good discount, and their respond was "Our game replayability value is a LONG compared to others". I hate that Nintendo rarely has deals on their games but they are true that the replay value on their games is VERY LONG.
eh. I wouldn't replay a game like Mario Odyssey. I find some other non-nintendo games have better replayability and are often on sale (Hades, Hollow Knight, etc.). There's just so many options for Switch owners and thats why its quickly becoming one of the best selling consoles of all time
Personally I like nintendo, I think there consoles are alright. I have the steam deck but I like playing on the switch more, no fan noise and a better battery life.
I wanted to get a Switch, but couldn't justify the current price tag for such an old hardware and games were too expensive. I got a Steam Deck in their one year anniversary sale instead, and am absolutely loving it so far. I've even saved a lot of money playing my current pc games instead of buying inferior Nintendo third party ports. However that having said, I think I might eventually pick up a Nintendo Switch once the Nintendo successor is finally out. Then the Switch would be finally cheap and affordable for the price/graphics. The second hand market would be better.
@@oo--7714 I'm waiting for Steam Deck 2, that way I can emulate switch games at a lower power consumption (save battery life) and still enjoy better performance than the switch while on the go. I currently play switch games on my PC for 4K resolution and 60fps (sometimes even 120fps, like in Metroid Dread). I buy the games to support the developers though! @@saxoman1 hopefully the deck 2 has a better ui, a bit more plug and play, and quiter fan. Even when I turn the power down to 9 watts the fan still rattles hard in games like forza and even smaller indie games. Personally I don't like emulation as it's not really power efficient or optimized, emulating switch games doesn't give you a decent battery life and you are sacrificing a bit in terms of controls. Performance is hit or miss personally, I tried to emulate citra games on my phone (samsung galaxy s20 fe) but I was only getting around 40fps on super smash bros and the controls bleh weren't good. Not to mention how much you have to go through to get the games on the system. Honestly I'd just prefer to buy the console if I'm really that desperate to play mario games. The biggest one though is graphical glitches in games. Lots of games distort the audio when playing at lower than 60fps on the emulation. I personally wouldn't buy a deck to play switch games when half of them have graphical issues, like nintendo switch sports and that one zela top down 3d game with the bugged invisible chain chomps when emulating.
As big of a Sega fanboy as I was from 1989 to 2001, I have to admit that my first love was Nintendo (no, I don't count Atari because as soon as I finally got one, the NES was released and we all moved on from there). I do love PlayStation too but it doesn't have as big of a nostalgia hit as Nintendo does... just seeing that logo... ahhh.
The thing is, it’s also a strategy to appeal to kids because these lovable characters that we love as children, we still continue to love today as adults. I grew up with these characters, and today I still love them dearly. Nintendo plays with our hearts and nostalgia. The other important thing is the games have to play well, and they very much do. That’s what keeps us playing.
Kids nowadays play for the most part free to play games on mobile, because their parents don't want to spend 300 dollars on a console and for a kid there's no much difference between fortnite or super mario.
It was the 3rd generation of video games (read: Famicom/NES) that really defined and elevated video games. And Shigeru Miyamoto to me is like the Stan Lee figure of video games as a medium. I'll always love Nintendo as much as I love Disney. They both gave me fantastic childhood.
4th, the NES was the 4th generation, as there is a generation from 1982 to 1986 that gets lumped in with the prior. True video game players know there's more generations than Wikipedia says, but keep getting knocked down by admins for fixing it.
You missed possibly the biggest reason why Nintendo games and franchises are so successful - gameplay. In an industry driving towards cutting edge graphics but superficial and shallow gameplay, Nintendo goes against the grain by focusing on compelling gameplay first. Every single one of its franchises is built from the ground up as a gameplay concept executed incredibly and also changed up with each title. It's not about cinematics, story and realistic animation. That's not what makes games compelling, and Nintendo knows this better than anyone.
I highly disagree with you. As a gamedev I think games are an experience you cannot divide each of its component and judge it separately of the other. A game is the gameplay and the music and the graphics all working together to create and experience.
I agree! Nintendo has always been firmly in the ludology side in the narrativist vs ludologist side in gaming. Nintendo was never about huge cutscenes conveying the story. The gameplay itself carry the story and is at the centre of the game. I can’t stand so called triple A games with lame repetitive gameplay and huge expensive cutscenes. It was actually used by many pediatric optometrists and ophthalmologists to help diagnose vision problems. Nintendo has basically set the industry standard when it comes to creating hardware and designing their games. Each game is basically polished until each one is perfect in their own way. When they make a game like Mario odyssey or Metroid prime, it feel’s so measured, so perfectly crafted that it’s trying to teach you about the game and story while also reminding you with every button press that they are truly the best at what they do and everyone tries to be like them.

Just speaking for myself here -- i have always been drawn more to Nintendo because I feel like they just understand what makes games, and gaming, fun. They might not always have the best graphics, or the best voice acting -- but they are some of the most well thought out, creative, and FUN games I've ever played. And the re-playability is a big plus. Take something like BREATH OF THE WILD -- it doesn't have incredible graphics or oscar winning voice acting, or even a surplus of cut scenes -- but it is by far the most impressive open world game ever made because of the physics engine, the way it encourages exploration and a diversity of play styles. The developers at Nintendo just know how to get people interested in figuring out puzzles and applying themselves.
The switch is what the Wii U wanted to be. Nintendo is focus on kids and families, the others appeal to everyone. The ip’s are very strong similar to Disney.
But they have their more mature IP's too, like Zelda and Metroid. And above all, their games tend to be technical masterpieces (especially considering the hardware) and mechanically FUN to play! Art direction second to none also helps!
Nintendo has actually stepped back from their narrowed focus on kids/families with the Switch. They have matured rated and themed games like Doom Eternal, Witcher 3 and Mortal Kombat 11 and are actually the least restrictive of the big three when it comes to censorship so much so that Nintendo and Sony have switched sides in that regard when that wasn't the case not even ten years ago.

I’m a Nintendo fan but I don’t really understand when people say they innovate. Sony are constantly pushing out new IP whereas Nintendo are always relying on the same old tired games - Mario World, Mario Kart, Zelda etc. Am I missing something?
I can answer this in one word. Uniqueness. Nintendo is unique. They rarely copy anyone. They think outside the box. They are not afraid to bring something new to the table. They are just different and they only hire people who share their philosophy which is why they have been able to stay in the game for so long. They preserve their own Nintendo DNA through the years.
Mario 64 was the BIG Wow factor for me. Sure 3d games have been done before but there was something very magical about walking into the castle and the mirrors!
The most wholesome company in the world, and by far the best game developer in history. I cried when I finished Zelda BoTW and saw the in memoriam credit for Mr Iwata, their former CEO.
The video briefly mentions how the Game Boy and Switch innovated, but they aren't exceptions. Nintendo ALWAYS innovates with their hardware. The Legend of Zelda on NES was the first cartridge to use a battery for saving your progress. The SNES controller was the first with shoulder buttons. The Nintendo 64 was the first to have controller rumble. The competition always ends up copying what Nintendo does. The Wii was the clearest example of this, with everyone else going full-bore into motion controls soon after. The Wii was also Nintendo's clearest example of using lower powered hardware compared to the competition to great success. While simpler in some respects, both their hardware and software stand out by being unique. "Create something unique" is the company's philosophy.
Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and various other household names Millions grew up with. That's what sets them apart from the competition and puts them on their own level, where they can do whatever they want and no one can say squat.
Still very good Pokémon games (and don't hold your hand so much like more recent entries). I recently played Burgertime and Mario Land 2 again. The Gameboy is still very good.
I’ve been buying Nintendo products for two decades and it’s a must because it’s the only place to get Mario and Zelda games, not including other branded merch. I don’t even want to calculate how much they’ve made on me over the years 😅
Another interesting aspect of Nintendo's organisational culture is that they're still a very Japanese company. They stick to their guns, they keep their traditions alive. I have never seen them trying to "westernize" their business. And unlike their competitors, they will never allow anyone to impose political agendas on their games (and I think that's why Chris Pratt was chosen to play Mario).
Nintendo doesn't censor japan Or Japanese developers ever since "SONY" moved to California their censorship out of control and more woke design in thier games, Nintendo is now a platform for all types of Games and they actually make great first party titles.
A huge reason is the fact they have access & control over the greatest library of exclusive franchises of any gaming company ever. Like in terms of 'iconic' Microsoft & Sony have nothing remotley close to the holy trinity of gaming imo, Pokemon/Zelda/Mario, all of which are under Nintendo.
Nintendo is just fun. Awesome games, nostalgic memories with family and friends, character's & much more. I still enjoy the Super Mario Bros Movie from '93 (it's a fun popcorn flick), though I'm looking forward to the new one this next Wednesday (I got a day #1 ticket 🤟). The Switch is actually one of my favorite systems next to Sega Genesis, PS4, PS1, N64 and NES.
One more thing that separates Nintendo from the rest, is their readiness and ability to sue and force smaller devs into forced settling, over obscure and barely related copyrighted game mechanics.
I have no doubt that, Nintendo is way more better than these two, due to a huge fact Nintendo creates their own consoles and games with unique storylines and iconic personalities.
It's still part of the Game Boy family of systems. The Game Boy Color is like the PS4 Pro. It's the Gameboy Advance that is It's own thing and has its own family of systems being the SP and Micro.
Nintendo brings a unique aspect to games. I personally don't love video games but have always been drawn to the Nintendo games. I always thought I would grow out of Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda but somehow never did. The games are applicable to all age groups and represent all people from around the world.
Nintendo games feel like games not simulators. Also the music, color palettes, and animations create a unique, stress relieving atmosphere. That’s why I enjoy them over other console exclusives
Such a great video! In reality: Nintendo, Xbox and PlayStation and Valve are actually friends, A lot of people think the console wars are still a thing but I see it. It doesn't matter what console you have, You are playing the exact same game. The console wars shouldn't exist
@@thelazyworkersandwich4169 of course, look at what great results microsoft is obtaining thanks to the console war, the games do not come out and sony is scheduled for 10 GAAS for the next years, innovation and the best games are neither in sony nor in microsoft, the sooner you accept it the better
Nintendo is fantastic no doubt about it, the one area I've always felt that they lacked and the other console makers have kind of made up for is in the realm of storytelling. Nintendo games have always been about fun and fun is let's face it easy to have, what's harder is telling complex and Rich and emotionally arresting stories, and this is where I think Sony excels particularly with their first party games. Games like the newer God of war Ragnarok and the fantastic last of Us series and let's not forget the uncharted series. These games are fun to play, sure, but more importantly they are rich in storytelling and have the ability to not only invest the player in something that's gratifying from a entertainment perspective but also emotionally gratifying from a storytelling perspective. When you play super Mario you have fun with him as he jumps around the mushroom Kingdom and other places and eats mushrooms and ultimately works to save princess peach or whatever the story might be for that particular game, but honestly there's really no emotional attachment in the sense of storytelling in that adventure. Conversely when you play uncharted for example, you get emotionally invested in the game world and what's going on with Nathan Drake, the main character, and you get invested in his backstory and his life and the essence of what's going on around him and with the supporting characters. The world that's created in the game isn't simply a 3D fantasy, it becomes a real world and a place where we become attached to these characters and these stories. Microsoft does as well with their Halo series and the older gears of war series and a few others of course, but I always have felt to a lesser extent than does Sony. But all of that said is not meant to be a criticism Nintendo because ultimately that sense of fun is what brings people back and it's the reason me and my son have a switch and we play it all the time and it's the reason we'll keep coming back to Nintendo to have that fun when playing video games.
Well said.
well said indeed. i like that term mechanically rich games. every afternoon i have that itch to test my reflexes, and ps5 as much as i love it have nothing to offer but fifa and some souls games, when nintendo makes their core around that reflex examination. most of the games are plug and play, without a 5 minute cutscene.

Bingo
Zelda is the type of game where after going through one dungeon, *you become addicted.*
The dungeons are literally a series of problem-solving escape rooms.
This is so true, not many other companies can make the gameplay as nuanced yet natural feeling as Nintendo. Playing Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild you can really feel the polish in every step you take. Other games might have more realistic animations but it feels like youre not as in control of the character
Also, you can tell these people are just reporting the business side, and don't play games all that much. (I mean look at that Tetris gameplay lol)

Let me say it once again: Nintendo doesnt want to best hardwere and so on. That would just not make sense with their games. Nintendo wants good games, that appeal to everyone. And they have done that quite well.

Right! Mario Kart 8 has been out for almost a decade and it’s still being sold like hot cakes
@@ultimatebreak827 You could say the Same for PS4 and Xbox One. That generation was pushing high def graphics over performance, which was annoying.

Nintendo creates video games in their purest form, prioritizing mechanics and gameplay, the others make interactive movies disguised as videogames
While other game techs sell hardware, Nintendo sells culture and characters that many grew up to ❤
It was the 3rd generation of video games (read: Famicom/NES) that really defined and elevated video games.
@@hwstar9416 lol @ as a gamedev 😂
Compared to actual great movies any game is a bad joke anyway.
@@hwstar9416 I said gameplay FIRST. Not as the only thing. The music and graphics are stunning in Nintendo first party games. They just don’t overextend themselves to the detriment of gameplay like most AAA games
@@Jayy997 you're misunderstanding a lot of things about games. There is no "gameplay" part of a game that you can extract and the game would be just as fun. That's not how games work. It's much more complicated if you're a game dev like myself
Exclusives that’ll never drop below their launch price

I like that they don't drop below their launch price. It makes me feel pretty good that I purchase something that holds its value for a long time.
@@JosedeJezeus Buying it used won’t save much. If somebody buys a Nintendo game if they sell it they’re never gonna sell it for that cheap, especially comparatively.
If it costs $60 day one, five years later you can try and find it used & it’ll be $50
@@Ben-eh1qt Is it necessarily holding its value?
It’s not like Mario Kart 8 hasn’t sold 50 million copies. It’d be different if 10,000 copies were sold and people jacked the prices up on third party sites.
Are you mad???
Nintendo is in a very special place right now. Hopefully they succeed in expanding their game development studios and growing internally new ones.
Mario is now more popular than Micky Mouse. Never thought this day would come.
Even Pikachu is apparently, and that's saying something.
It's been that way for well over a decade. At this point he's more popular than Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny combined
Mickey Mouse ? What is that ?
This was reported in 1993, in David Sheff's book Game Over.
@MysticalPerson48KNintendo ain’t exactly angles either. Look how they treat fan artists
I love Nintendo’s fresh approach to their hardware even though they are underpowered. The Wii U despite selling abysmally had a really interesting hardware and was a progenitor for Switch. In the days where Sony and Microsoft expect us to give 500$ for a lockdown and restricted PC, Nintendo actually innovates on hardware and controllers as well.
Have you ever seen a 3DS in person?
It had a 600x600x400 screen, but had glasses-free 3D that doubled the horizontal resolution due to each eye seeing different pixels. It created the illusion of depth like the screen was a window into a diorama. This effect was phenomenal to everyone who had good eyesight, but for those with lazy eyes, poor eyesight, or weak eye muscles and difficulty focusing, it was very tiring. It was actually used by many pediatric optometrists and ophthalmologists to help diagnose vision problems. They managed to do something that felt far beyond 2020 technology in 2010, and they did it with the novel use of mature technology. Today, if I want to see or play games with a 3D screen, there is no other option!
Ah yes, nothing says innovation from wii u to switch better than joycon drift and all the lawsuits nintendo dodges over them.
@@WarningStrangerDanger I still have my first 3DS and the New 3DS and man, you're not lying. Recently I booted it up to play a bit in Tomodachi Life and Yo-Kai Watch and man, the 3D effect is seriously great. It's hard to believe that they came up with this technology so many years ago, and it still looks great!
@@okapibibi I've showed it to people and they still can't believe it is real.
Pretty easy. Nintendo is the disney of video games. And they release conservative but innovative hardware.
What separates them is they do their own thing, not in competition with others but itself.
blue ocean strategy in a nutshell. Mr. Iwata used that method when he became CEO
no matter what your picks ps5, xbox, or pc, you always need to have nintendo console beside it
Michaels comment on cheaper to product and 5 years behind makes little sense honesty, the Nintendo switch was quite powerful for a portable console in 2016, there were no phones at the time that had the same performance of the switch at the same price point at the time. The cost of the chip has decreased over time though.
Thats the same guy that predicted with almost certainty that the Switch would flop. In fact, im struggling to think a of prediction made by him that wasnt wrong.
There's more to hardware than just the processor/SoC alone.
@@TheAlibabatree That's very true. He wouldn't have a clue on the game industry if it was catapulted on a trebuchet at him. That said, he's not wrong on that 1 point. Though, even broken clocks are right twice a day.
Did you forget the PSP (2005) and PS Vita (2011) were a thing? Why are you comparing the Switch to cellphones? The Switch wasn't radically better technologically than the PS Vita. The PSV had far more capable Bluetooth which could connect several devices. Nintendo just marketed their device better whereas Sony screwed up with the PSV.
@@poppinc8145 It’s not just marketing. Nintendo optimizes for better unit economics *and* lower sale price. While the PSP and PSV launched at $250 and the Switch launched at $300, the Switch was positioned as competition to the PS4 and Xbox 360. It straddled both markets, and so had a richer value proposition to parents who were looking to maximize return on investment. Nintendo has done this since the 80s; what’s shocking is that the other companies haven’t tried to replicate its successful strategy more.
They actually try to innovate the gaming industry with new gimmicks, while Sony and Microsoft stick with the traditional and safe "upgrade the specs for more powerful graphics" strategy.

The difference between nintendo and the others is...nintendo games are actually fun...
Nintendo games are easily multiplayer!
Nintendo has memorable and iconic IP franchises/characters that easily appeals to even casual gamers: Mario, Pikachu, Kirby, etc.
Not Pikachu but Pokemon. It is one of the most valuable franchising of the world, not just videogame.
And also Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Splatoon, Zelda and Metroid.
Never liked Mario
The upside on Nintendo is phenomenal. A 5 year time line you will 3X your principal investment. The US ADR listed as NTDOY trading for $10. They should be valued higher than Disney who barely can fart out a profit but heavily invested by the institutional players.
For the love of all that’s holy, keep those institutions away from Nintendo and other companies who are still innovative!
I think Elden Ring far surpassed BOTW but you dont get Elden Ring without Myasaki being inspired by BOTW so it's a big big deal.
Nintendo is the true King of video games! Don't @ me!

other companies make family friendly games (ubisoft's rabbids for example) other companies make many exclusive games (sony's many first party studios) and other companies have tried using older technologies to release concurrent devices (think tiger electronics)
what sets nintendo apart is that they do all those things AND have an extremely strong culture of design led games, it isnt that every nintendo game is perfectly good and fun, but it's that every nintendo game starts from an idea of something fun to do and strives as much as the team can to reach that goal instead of games meant to shock with their content, awe with graphics and so on.
by virtue of being games that are crafted to PLAY WELL first, they also cross cultural boundaries extremely well.
Nintendo’s games not only cross cultural boundaries, but age and gender boundaries as well. While their competitors develop systems and games that primarily appeal to testosterone-fueled guys, Nintendo seeks to develop products that appeal to all ages and genders.

Got my first switch during the pandemic. Love playing their first party titles and being able to casually pick up and set down my handheld and play whenever/wherever.
Other companies make games, Nintendo creates experiences, memories and fun. It's why almost every Nintendo console is looked back fondly, while most PlayStations and Xboxes end up being kind of forgotten after being replaced by their sucessors. It's also why Nintendo has a more pronounced fanbase.
PlayStation appeals to the casual who just wants to play some FIFA or COD. Nintendo appeals to older and younger gamers who just love videogames

I cried when I finished Zelda BoTW and saw the in memoriam credit for Mr Iwata, their former CEO.
you have bad taste. And Nintendo is not wholesome, they're an evil corporation
OMG it's Michael Pachter. Haven't seem him in years.
Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and various other household names Millions grew up with. That's what sets them apart from the competition and puts them on their own level, where they can do whatever they want and no one can say squat.
Gameboy still my favorite. Pokemon red, blue, and yellow. ❤️
1:24 yeah that's the actual reason ! Early in the party to be "different not too different"

One more thing that separates Nintendo from the rest, is their readiness and ability to sue and force smaller devs into forced settling, over obscure and barely related copyrighted game mechanics.

If Breath of the Wild taught us anything, is that nobody really cares about the hardware, as long as the game is good.
Nintendo will know that they have great brand awareness when everyone knows who Link is.
I have no doubt that, Nintendo is way more better than these two, due to a huge fact Nintendo creates their own consoles and games with unique storylines and iconic personalities.
I am confused - When Game Boy is mentioned, a Game Boy Colour is displayed? GBC is definitely something in 90s.

1:40 What is the Tetris gameplay 😭
I know - it's all I can focus on. Who was playing Tetris and why do they NOT KNOW HOW to play Tetris?
