I love how you give love to looser curls and waves aswell. You don't put one higher than the other. I have waves and big curls not tight. And I've experienced kind of judgement from people saying that it's not curly or naturally curly that I curl it since my hair gets weighed down easily. It's weird and it's hurts my feelings but I'm learning to embrace and love what I have.
Thank you love ❤️ Your comment made my day today . I’ve been feeling down about my hair lately . I love women with waves and bigger curls I see a lot mythical fantasy characters with our hair type so I like say we’re magical 😉❤️
Yeah..I hear you mostly it comes from the snooty curl police society!! I decided to not label my hair and concentrate on getting my hair less oiler and getting 4 days before next wash. I also focus on just making it as healthy and to get my hair to less frizzy as possible. Recently I got me hair to 7 days before washing by exfoliating my scalp before shampoo, shampoo with voluminising shampoo and then let it towel dry with microfiber and put in just a dime size of leave I'm conditioner.
What’s with wavy-haired people acting oppressed? Society doesn’t judge us for our wavy hair. And I’ve only heard curly haired people criticize wavies for calling their hair curly
@@Dana-vq1tk Yeah it was from the curl police haha and some family ! But we got what we got and it's beautiful. Yeah I'm trying to find the balance between defrizzing and not weighing it down! Sounds look you're finding a good routine!! I'm still trying to figure out mine works sometimes it doesn't it's weird.
Yay thank you for validating that it's okay to skip conditioner in certain cases!! I have fine hair that is easily weighed down and using a leave-in conditioner as a rinse out or skipping conditioner all together gives me the best hair days! Bring on the wavy content and styling real people 😄 (Especially if you could go a video on styling grey hair, or kids hair! These are often overlooked)

This is so encouraging! Most of the curly YT community has big, thick tight curly hair, and there are so many who get catty about those of us with looser curls, telling us we aren't really curlies or only because of the products we use, as if they aren't also using products to get their look. The thing I really appreciated is that she had less volume to begin with and I could see myself more here. I've lost so much of my hair thanks to PCOS, thyroid disorder and perimenopause, so my confidence is knocked. This helps. Curl patterns can change over our lifetime, so always good to update the techniques. Have you tried the overnight heatless headband / sock / robe belt curling techniques? Can you do a roller set with velcro rollers? This is great for volume and long lasting style :)
Hey y'all please don't forget to like this video, Mel really teaches us how to love our own hair instead of trying to change it. Personally, I didn't know my hairs capabilities until I started learning from Mel. I just know that there are more people who need her. Let's like so they get to see it
I've tried and tried and tried this type of technique (sectioning & brushing right side up) and it's the messiest, most complicated thing ever. In the videos it always looks so straightforward but in real life if you have a lot of fine hair it's impossible to part, brush and scrunch without getting it tangled with the next section etc. Takes forever and I end up re brushing everything once I have product everywhere because it never falls perfectly in place no matter how hard I try to properly separate and style each section. Upsidedown is a quick second, doesn't look perfect and evenly distributed but it gets more volume and if you wash, style and diffuse upsidedown it really simplifies things. Not criticizing the video, I love Mell and I've been following her for years, but in real life this is not a quick, beginner routine. Doing everything upsidedown it takes me a full hour from the moment I start shampooing to the moment I stop diffusing at like 70% and it doesn't look perfect, it's neither defined nor beach-y sexy but the alternative is adding a good extra 30m to get a half-assed job. I wish it was really simple but it's not 😢 if anybody has tips and tricks to do the right side up, definition & volume method without taking forever to style, getting all the sections tangled, taking forever to section, style and diffuse I'm all ears 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What i do is style upright in two sections, parted down the middle, so that the top and back gets enough product and definition. I brush through and scrunch to define before adding product, then scrunch in whatever (used to be on gel, currently on mousse, still figuring it out). But I diffuse upside down so I can get maximun volume. I"ve tried putting in product upside down but I always end up with not enough on the top and back. Please note that I'm only 3 months into my wavy hair journey and I don't even have a clarifying shampoo yet so I'm suffering from horrible buildup! I totally get you though, last time I tried sectioning like Mel it was a huge mess and I got quite upset. For reference I'm 3a in the front and 2C-2B everywhere else
its so validating to hear someone reccomending brushing out day 3/4 waves because i always feel like im cheating on my curls when i do it 😂 although i really like the results i get!! thank you mel and kate, i really appreciate this video as a wavy/curly girl ❤
I used to get so anxious about brushing out my waves too, but when I do, I get instant 40s vintage, pin up girl type waves, without even trying....Rita Hayworth on day 4, YES!! 😅
MELL, it is so good to see you in the salon with a wavy person! I spent the last week thinking that it was time for me to give up on wavy hair after over three years of using variations on the CGM. I was actually wishing that Mell would see some wavy people and model for us what was possible for waves and when to just give up on waves. This video is just what I needed to see to show me more techniques to try before I give up on having wavy hair. THANK YOU!
Yes, please, more wavy hair content! I'm sensitive to fragrances, therefore limited in the products I can use, so learning skills becomes that much more important.
I really loved this! It’s great to see a looser wave pattern. But please teach us how to do on our own heads. It looks so easy whenever someone else is doing it. It’s much harder to do on your own head.
This might sound dramatic but I really need these wavy videos. I'm a wavy and I've been having such a hard time accepting my hair. I'm mixed race but have my Irish mother's skintone and (I thought) straight, fizzy hair. All my brothers got my dad's side big, dark, curls and olive skin. I've always felt like I don't look like I belong in my own family. Realising it's not frizz, it's actually some of my dad's texture coming through, has been life changing in how I see myself but a lot of the curly community seems to exclude waves. When I see you caring for wavy hair like this, I feel a better about myself. So thank you because I needed that.
I have to say I’m 36yrs old and I only just recently started wearing my natural hair. Your advice has helped my hair look so much better!! My hair is really similar to hers. It’s like half curl have wave. Thank you SO much for your content!!
Mine is like that too! If I let it do its own thing, it can't choose between whether it wants to coil or wave. We wavy-curlies might have the trickiest hair because it's on the borderline of two types, so no one advice category is going to make things easy for us.
Love seeing wavy girls in your videos.. i struggle so much because my hair is literally between 2c & 3a so half of my hair wants to be bouncy curls and the other just waving around (some almost straight) and I‘m still not sure how they want to be styled (and they also changed because of dying my hair during my journey so the curls got looser) really hard to find a routine/product for defining without loosing to much volume especially because I have low-med density🙈
Yes, more wavy hair! Girl in video is beautiful. Thank you for this. Suggestion: DIY layered haircut for wavies. Would love that! (Got lots of hair and yearn for guidance on this, especially the layering part to rid some weight and add shape and movement.)
I loved this! Kate's got a very similar hair type and length to mine (2c to 3a, somewhat fine and thin) so this was really helpful! The tip to avoid parting at the crown is exactly what I've been looking for - this has been one of my biggest issues with a lot of curly hair tutorials and I've never, ever seen anyone properly explain how to combat it. I would love to see more videos showing how to achieve some good results with different styles (eg. 2nd and 3rd day looks, when your curls are a little too funky to wear down) on this hair type.
I just tried this routine, not quite dry yet, but looking good (except where I forgot myself and scrunched after making the curls!) . Mell, one thing that really helped me is what I made note of in my second viewing. You tension-brush the section and let it fall onto your second hand. That really helped me keep the half-done part away from the done, hanging parts, so I would not miss any curl families. A simple thing that you do naturally was something that I needed to add to my technique. Thanks, with work, I think this is going to be good for me, and faster and less stressful than my old way!
I have wavy hair and it is fine, though I have a ton of it. I always wash and diffuse my hair upside down. This video was super helpful, thank you Mel. I just ordered the living proof items and the root clips to give this way a try ( I already have the other items). Thanks again Mel for helping us wavy hair people out.
Happy to see this…this is how my hair is. Then redhead fading to white has made my hair finer & harder to style. Same swirly crown which makes me look like I’m balding 😭 I’ve found massaging my scalp helps raise the roots 🙌🏻 hair with a mind if it’s own
Due to suffering from vertigo, I struggle and most of the time can't style upside-down, so this was fantastic!! Thanks very much, Mel!! Love your videos 💕
YES more wavy hair stuff! My hair went wavy after I had kids but a bunch of it is still not wavy at all. I have a heckuva time getting my waves to last beyond day one, even following all of your methods.
My hair is a very similar curl pattern(between 2b and 3c) so this was a very helpful routine. It’s color treated, dry, coarse and borderline low density though so trying to find the balance between having enough moisture without weighing it down is tricky.
I have wavy hair although more 3A and I have recently discovered brushing out day 2-3 hair with some hair oil and it looks like a blow out. Fun for a different look and so much easier! I love the wavy tips! Would love more videos like this :) I'm so intrigued by slipping conditioner and going right for a leave in...
I just wanted to say thank you. 1 year ago my hair was immanageable. I was doing the curly girl method and thought maybe I just have shitty hair... then I found you. I get compliments on my hair all the time.❤️ you saved my hair- and I found a new way to love myself. Thank you 🙏
Hi Mell, I really like your videos. You’re very talented. You asked for comments, so I’m sharing that I felt overwhelmed by the routine. It looks like you brush-styled dozens of wavy clumps, I’m not entirely sure how you applied the foaming gel or how you clipped the roots. I have 2b/c- 3a hair and I love that you’re doing tutorials for wavy hair, btw. I hope I haven’t offended you with me feedback, I’m just not very confident with styling techniques and this seemed like a lot.
whew I needed this video cause I've been struggling so hard with keeping my clumps in tact but getting more definition and volume at the root while I'm diffusing 😮💨 can't wait to try this on my next wash day
OMG OMG! MELL!! Thank you for this tutorial!!!! Please definitely do more wavy hair vids! I struggle SO much with my stupid wavy hair, I am constantly breaking my back and neck thinkin I have to style upside down and then an hour later after I've dried it, it looks flatter than than a tortilla! I am SO trying this out!
🙋🏼♀️Wavy hair here! I really appreciate this video even though it’s a year old now. Thank you for helping wavies so much. I’ve watched another wavy girl do this and loved the brush out, so I can visualize how that will look. As a working woman, I needed this tutorial so badly! I thought it sounded like too much trouble when the other girl described it, but when you said that I could brush it out on day 2 or 3, my eyes lit up and the angels sang. I am all about stretching out my shampoo/style days. Muah!💋 Thank you and please update and do more wavy hair help vids.
I loved this video so much!!! Just seeing how you style someone else’s hair especially a wavy girl like me! She looked amazing! Thank you for this! 🙏🏽♥️
Oh wow! Just started watching, already love it because I have the same hair type. So exciting to find out some new tips. Thanks 💕 Updated: I also sometimes brush my waves. It's just a completely new hairstyle, adds variety
Ah omg same! My curls have stretched with damage due to extensive dye these last two years so I’m way more wavy than curly so I looove that she’s promoting embracing all texture types
I brush my waves on Day 2 sometimes, and on days after that, I always brush and have nice body and some waves. I can brush my waves, then mist and scrunch to reactivate product and get some waves and curls back, especially on the bottom half.
I have 3a on the sides and front, which is super tight and very curly on their own. And then 2c in the back hair and it hardly curls, and I look silly. I considered going shorter, maybe bringing out curls in the back, but I may try this for my back sections first. Thanks! You’re the best!!
Omg this is my hair. Full ringlets in the front/sides and underneath but that top hair on the back hardly even waves unless I brush style and add a bunch of gel or texture spray.
MORE WAVY Information please! Just discovered this channel so I'm excited to watch more. It always bothers me that I see the curly hair videos and everyone's wet hair is still so curly. My wet hair is mostly straight yet it is definitely a wavy curly mix after it's dried. My curl pattern isn't as strong (again when wet) so I always feel the information just doesn't seem to work on my particular hair type. Plus by the end of the day it seems the majority of my "style" has fallen out. I am definitely always looking for more wavy girl ideas.
Crazy how you can watch a video once or twice, get lost in the world of natural styling on YT (or even within this channel), try a bunch of stuff, and then come back to the same video and be like oh yeahhhh I forgot about that detail! It’s awesome how much helpful info for your sharing and it will continue to help ppl who haven’t even watched yet too. Thanks! 💖
Can you add 2C to the title or description? Helps us wavy girls find our hair twins. I feel like there aren't a lot of 2C examples out there (or maybe I just haven't found them yet).
There really aren't. I've been looking for help for like 2+years for my hair that is exactly like this but blonde. It's just aways so frizzy and stringy or really snarled after I style it. 😢
I've curly/wavy hair and I actually like to comb it (in very thin section to not damage it) 3 or 4 days after my wash day, I love the way my curls look once it's combed and by doing this I can stay sometimes more than a week without washing my hair
Please, do more videos on 2a hair. Now that I realized I have loose waves, I've been looking through UA-cam for the past week for videos on how to manage them. There's only videos on super wavy 2b or 2c hair. Thank you in advance ^^
Yes!! I am new to this as well. I have thin fine wavy hair that gets weighed down so easily and has no volume. I tried gel and someone told me to stop using it it is weighing me down I tried foam and it doesn't hold well and it's not as defined. I hover diffuse and it's making my roots flat even though I'm doing that with head upside down. I see everyone using all these products cant I can't when it's being weighed down!
Please do more videos on 2a/b waves! This video had already taught me more than all other wavy hair content on here. I’m currently discovering how to take care of my hair that is 2a/b on the top and almost straight in the back. I’ve been trying upside down styling to enhance the waves at the top but I only end up messing up the back. Can’t wait to try this brushing technique next wash day! Thank you ❤️
Thank you so much for focusing on wavy hair Mel! I'd love to see more on it. I have 2b/2c hair, baby fine and silky soft, and EVERYTHING weighs it down. I struggle to find products light enough to to lift and define. I spend a lot of time looking at techniques for curly hair and trying to adjust them for my waves. Any suggestions on adjusting techniques for waves would be really helpful!
Yes more wavy hair videos please! I have fine 2A/B hair that is highlighted, lacks volume, gets easily weighed down and tends to look stringy and see-through.
mel, you’re my only hope, i hope you can read this comment. i’m a wavy hair girlie who lives in a tropical country and has serious problems with wave definition/getting clumps at all, and storm season just started, that means the humidity in the air is off the charts. i don’t understand how anyone manages to have natural hair in this place but the people around me are very much in the camp of “keratin straighten your hair and never deal with it every again”. how do i avoid humidity frizz? how do i get any kind of definition?
Her hair looks amazing. I have wavy/curly hair so I understand how it can be difficult but I have a lot of medium to coarse hair so that’s an additional challenge.
I love this! I would love to see you do a series where you style other people's hair for them; that way we could see how products and styling techniques work on different hair types.
I’m going to try skipping conditioner and doing a leave in to see what happens. I like both styles. Her before feels more lived in a everyday vibes and the brush styling feels more sleek. If it’s less work for her than yay. I just wanted it to be fluffed at the root a bit so we didn’t see the separation from the brush styling. Personal preference.
Would love more wavy hair content! 2A/2B, coarse strands, high density. I see a lot of content for fine wavy hair but almost none for coarse/thick hair. Love this!
I am 66 years old. I do take some meds. My hair type is baby fine hair and graying. It is virgin hair. Been watching your channel for years now. When I started styling my hair naturally. I been seeing more waves and curls.
This was an extremely helpful tutorial. I deep conditioned but skipped the leave-in for a very similar result. I loved both the final result and her wavy hairstyle at the beginning.
🎉🎉👏🏽👏🏽 I loved this video. Kate was great and she must have enjoyed her time in Mel’s Chair. I have wavy hair so the tips Mel shared helped me a lot. Thanks for creating this type of content. Brilliant!❤
I love this routine, I don't use root clips I just flip the top section back and forth to get more volume while it dries. Styling to be able to brush it out and put some oil in it later is my absolute favorite. ❤
Finally, a video about someone whose hair is more like mine! This is the closes I have seen. I have been scouting YT forever, trying to find advice for my in-between wavy hair that looks just like Kate's hair in length and density. I am also dealing with smaller separations and major frizz. I can't wait to try this. Thank you so much for this video and bring on more wavies!
My hair is 2C 3A and I have a lot of problems with getting it to be clumpy and not stringy. And I also have a hard time getting it to hold the curl longer. I need to get my hair cut and layered. Right now it's VERY long.
Happy Thursday. As a red head, I am loving the video. I have been using AG Liquid Effects with my Verb CFG for months and it gives me the best result. Looking forward to similar videos in the future as it is great to see other curl patterns and textures on your channel
Loved seeing you use products you have recommended, but on hair different from yours! I have all the products you used, minus the living proof products, as you have used them in prior videos. But you used them differently on her hair then when you demo'd them on your hair. These products never quite worked when I use them as you did in your previous videos. I'm going to try using them how you did in this video and I think it will work for my hair! Based on hair analysis I have low porosity, 2c/3a, course, medium density hair. But my curl stylist says it acts more like fine hair. It needs the moisture, but it doesn't like heavy products. Thank you for doing this video!!!! Her hair is amazing!!
Great tutorial for us wavy girls Mell - thank you so much! And I will be subscribing to Kate's channel - she had a great personality and I enjoyed watching you two interact. And that stunning hair! I love when you said it looks like there was glitter in her hair - my mom had beautiful red/ginger hair too - and hers had that glittery quality also. Mom's hair tended to have a slightly frizzy look to it though - so she almost always wore it in braids- or would use hot rollers to curl it on special occasions when she left it loose. The curls would fall out quickly (she only used hairspray and no other product) but some curls here and there would keep their shape until she washed her hair. Now I understand that she must have been a wavy/curly girl, and had curled a few pieces in the natural direction of her curls/waves, so it would last longer. I wish I had known before she passed that she had wavy hair - I would have loved helping her find her waves with your techniques :) I Loved this video - and would love to see more of you styling a variety of hair types like this video in the future. You are such a great wealth of knowledge on all types - you could help so many people by sharing your knoweldge unique to their hair while demonstrating on a real life example - that has hair that may be very different from yours. Even though you explain the differences that other hair types should know, having a visual on their hair type can make all the difference for some people to be able to do the techiques that they couldn't visualize doing on their own hair - when it was demontrated on a different hair type before. Thank you to you, and your sister, and your whole family and support team - for letting us into your lives- and helping people find, embrace and honor their curls and waves :)
I love the big clumps here versus the small stringy clumps my wavy hair ends up with when i do any kind of scrunch. Thanks for the great tips, i will definitely try this out! Especially skipping the conditiner and just using leave in.
Thank you so much for doing these wavy hair styling videos! I have wavy hair and always struggle with how to style it naturally. Id love to see a video on how to protect wavy hair over night and refresh the waves the next day
Yaaaas I love this!! I recently discovered I have waves and am loving your videos. But this makes much more sense for my hair! I love her hairline/crown disappearing😍 It’s a struggle for me to find out how big the wave-sections should be. So thank you! And yes, more please!!🙏🏻❤️
Oh, I'm going to have to try this! I recently tried some new products that are weighing my hair down, and the more I try to make it work (styling upside down), the worse my results! Im excited for this approach!

More wavy hair tutorials, please! All your videos are so helpful! Would love to see a tutorial for typically men's hairstyles with wavy/curly hair.
Her hair looks beautiful both ways! ❤ This was helpful for me too because my hair type and waves are almost exactly like hers! 😊
Wavy girl here, I've been CRAVING for more Wavy content from you!
My hair is EXACTLY like Kate's!!! I LOVE this video so much, finally I'm seeing someone with my curl pattern, texture and density!
Same swirly crown which makes me look like I’m balding 😭
I’ve found massaging my scalp helps raise the roots 🙌🏻 hair with a mind if it’s own
Yeeees more wavy hair videos TY!!!
I am here for seeing Mell cut and style someone's hair. It's so nice!
YESSSS!!
That's what I do too!
Thanks 💕
Updated: I also sometimes brush my waves. It's just a completely new hairstyle, adds variety
This is the video FOR YOU! So many tips in here, thank you for watching
@@ManesByMell no, thank YOU! 😉
Thank you for doing a wavy hair video! The style is nice, but, I actually think her normal style with smaller ringlets is more flattering on her.
It has been a struggle finding wavy hair routines. Thank you for including us!
Thanks! 💖
I would LOVEEE to see more like a thick curly hair routine for textures around 3c or even 4a hair. I love your content xoxo
that is so cute that Mell is just styling and she's also giving a little cut to enhance the style! She's such a pro!!
I've curly/wavy hair and I actually like to comb it (in very thin section to not damage it) 3 or 4 days after my wash day, I love the way my curls look once it's combed and by doing this I can stay sometimes more than a week without washing my hair
Hi Mell! Please do a tutorial for shoulder length wavy hair. My layers are very difficult to style!!
I love seeing videos for wavies like this!
This was my favourite wavy video you've done! Results looked great
Please do more videos on 2a/b waves! Thank you ❤️
Yes, please do more on wavy, curly hair! And thank you for addressing cowlicks on the crown. Mine is the bane of my existence.
I started my curl journey a few months ago and she has the same hair type as me! I would love to see more people with this hair type!!
I'm a wavy, high porosity, thin strands, high density. Would love more wavy tutorials!
Yes PLEASE MORE WAVY HAIR CONTENT. I love and learn so much from your channel but also i cant use as many products because im wavy.
Love this! Great to see hair tutorials for all different hair types! I do appreciate the wavy hairstyling tips! Thank you so much, Mell! 💗
I'd love to see a styling video on short, wavy curly hair (i have a bob hair cut) so many great tips!❤
Love this!
I love this approach as well, showing results on other people’s textures
Yes Mel! I would love to have some more wavy videos from you and I will definitely try this out today! Thanks so much for helping understand my hair!
LOVE and appreciate a wavy tutorial!! Thank you!!!
I love this type of video it helps to see different ppl with all hair types and curl patterns!
I tried this today and the results were really good. Please do more for fine hair.
I have to say I love both looks, the first one has a nice grungy look and 2nd has a polished effortless look.
My hair is 2C 3A and I have a lot of problems with getting it to be clumpy and not stringy. And I also have a hard time getting it to hold the curl longer. I need to get my hair cut and layered. Right now it's VERY long.
Ahhh this is so helpful, her curl/wave pattern is just like mine :)
This video is great. Guess I missed it when it came out but just found it! I would deffinetly love to see more of these videos and technics!
Thanks for the wavy series ❤ more please 🙏
I love your videos they have really helped my hair ❤❤
Awe Amelia I am so happy to hear that!! Thank you for sharing ❤️ hope you have a happy hair day xoxo
I looooove to see you style other people! Especially wavy, I have thin wavy hair and feel like I'm blessed and cursed at the same time).
Her hair is a beautiful colour and texture!
Would love to see how this compares to upside styling on her hair type!
Loved the video! If you have or ever do a 3a long hair video similar to this I would love to see it!
I love these videos where you bring in people and show them how to style their waves and curls!
I wish I had known before she passed that she had wavy hair - I would have loved helping her find her waves with your techniques :)
I Loved this video - and would love to see more of you styling a variety of hair types like this video in the future.
I love her hairline/crown disappearing😍
It’s a struggle for me to find out how big the wave-sections should be.
So thank you! And yes, more please!!🙏🏻❤️
Oh, I'm going to have to try this! I recently tried some new products that are weighing my hair down, and the more I try to make it work (styling upside down), the worse my results! Im excited for this approach!
More please!!!! As a 2C Deep Waves with a lot of 3a thrown in between I would love myself more Mel tips ❤❤❤❤
This was great! Would love advice for naturally dry and frizzy waves.
