      Cool video! I have a semi-related question for you: if I want to get my hair cut in a straight blunt bob (just maybe an inch longer than yours), and I usually part my hair to the side, should I get it cut with a side part or a middle part? Just so if I want to try a middle part, it doesn’t look weird 😉

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 роки тому +1

      @@Stefita83 Definitely get it cut in a middle part because if you cut it in a side part and it is blunt, you will get an overhang if you part it in the middle after.

      I have an asymmetrical face where my jaw is more prominent and sticks out on the left side more than my right. My chin also leans a bit to the right. I’ve always been super insecure about my face, so I’ve learned that I’ve had to start posing a certain way in pictures, or part my hair a certain way, or else my face just looks…off lol but idk if how I’ve been parting it is actually the most flattering or not 😩

    I was a hairdresser for 32 years and without fail, your natural part is always where it looks best on you. Nature knows what it’s doing, in my opinion. One exception is if you want height and fullness on top, then part it in the same spot on the opposite side.

    Thank you for this video!💖It was very helpful. I watched this because my fine textured hair has reached “mermaid length” and I’ve been in a quandary for at least 4 years about cutting it. It really does take a long time to get this length and at my age I don’t take that lightly. Until I’m really sure, I’ll just keep letting it grow! I was a teen in the 70’s. I wore a center part for years and it looked good on me back then…youth…😉. Now i notice that it emphasizes the nose-not my best feature. I found that an off center or high side part is best on me. I change the side of my “part” almost every day so I always have a little lift on top. I’ve never figured out my face shape! People have told me square, round and heart lol. I love the zig zag part! It looks softer and hair looks thicker on top. I do a more subtle zig zag. Everything in fashion comes back. I’m old enough that I’ve seen nearly everything come back again at least once! Do your own thing! One thing I’ve learned is that what looks best on you will always look best and most stylish! Shoving a round peg in a square hole may work but may not look the best! 💖

      I also have fine wavy hair, when the hair gets too long, the waves kinda disappear. I like both in me, side and middle part, but either way I need some lift on the roots especially in the front and top or my head will look just too flat. I also like an “untidy” zigzag. Doesn’t look so 2000s but still gives some movement. Since I have a wide jaw and cheekbones I cannot do the deep side part, because then I get triangleface, looks somehow unbalanced

    Question 1: Do you do any nutritional supplementing for hair? Question 2: Does nose size and/or shape affect where a part looks best? Thank you for talking about parts! My natural part starts with a cowlick at the right front and I've let that determine my part for decades. Recently I saw a photo of my head from the back - eek! Too much scalp showing. Tried parting from the left side which seems to have more hair - is this even possible? A diagonal part left to right helps me camouflage thinning hair and the slight resistance gives my fine flat hair a bit of a lift in front.

  • @Mistyvalentine
    @Mistyvalentine Рік тому +1

    I have always parted my hair in the middle. It is also where my hair naturally parts. I also have a cowlick right in the middle of my hair in front. I use the curling iron to make my cowlick lay the way I want it to lay. It only takes a minute to do and it's the way I've always done it.

When I get my hair cut, I am always asked why I don't part of the left (collic? on right), but it feels more natural on the right to me. I haven't been able to part my hair in the middle since 1972 when I had a head injury that at the time required shaving about a half dollar sized patch right in front just above the hairline in the middle of my head. The skin was too thin for stitches ( it split open ) so they butterfly bandaged it. I had to side part my hair to cover up the grow out which was awkward & I've had a half inch white scar just above my hairline right between the eyebrows ever since. But guess where my hair naturally wants to part most of the time--the middle or slightly off side. I always have to tell stylists/hairdressers that I don't ever part my hair in the middle, at least not in the front. And I do switch which side/how deep/straight it gets parted pretty frequently to get volume or just to switch it up.

    When the part is off to the side , as you are wearing, my eye automatically drops back down to the smile on the face.
    I do not take a second look at the smile with bangs or a middle part, and that is a subconscious thing I never realized before.
    Celebrities may prefer bangs or a middle part to duck cameras by putting on sun glasses. I really never noticed before.
    When the part is to the side, the diagonal shape on the forehead also plays a neat trick as your brain draws vertical lines from the edge of your cheeks and lips to verify there is a diagonal shape there.
    In other words it makes a smile glow parting to one side, especially with volume added layers on top, pony tail styles also make the smile glow.
    I think forcing the person looking at you without them knowing it, figuring out how that smile is accented by the style is just cool.
    I don't want to say any woman looks bad in bangs or a middle part, I just don't see anyone talking about redirection to the smile, all I see is confusing (to me) face shape discussions.

    Over 20 years ago, Oprah had a hairdresser on her show talking about parting your hair on the opposite side to add volume. So Oprah made all the ladies in her audience get out of their comfort zones and part their flat midday hair to the other side and voila instant oomph. It was crazy the huge difference it made with all these ladies. You could see all their hair just got instant volume. I'll never forgot that image. Ever since that episode, I've been a convert and often change my part throughout the day when it starts to feel flat on one side. That's the only way it feels comfortable for me now, because flat hair feels like helmet hair. Thumbs up if you just parted your hair.

    Gabi I always love your vlogs. I would love to ask what would be the best part for more mature women or women who have a little bit of a double chin? I have always had a small double chin and try never to put my hair behind my ears because I am very conscious it may not always look appealing or attractive. Thanks Gabi! 🌹

      Hi! I'm not a pro but do have some experience (went to school for cosmetology but didn't/couldn't graduate because of my disability, unfortunately). My thoughts: avoid the middle part - it's like curtains, putting what's between on display & anything that isn't "perfect" will be more noticeable. The other two - zig-zag & side parts - are better options. Another thing not mentioned in the video - some people look better with no part, hair styled to go up & back. Try different parts & take photos. It's easier to judge than looking in a mirror & is the best way (IMHO) to decide for yourself. I would talk to your preferred hairdresser about your cut, also. Like the part, some cuts emphasize certain problem areas more than others. Hope I helped, in some small way. Have a good day!

      @@V-Mac00 Thanks. I cannot afford a stylist especially now in this horrible economy in the US. I have done my own hair cutting and styling consistently since I was 15. Taught myself, books, tutorials now UA-cam. I’m a little sad Gabby did not come back to check comments but people have a life and she gave her tips.
      I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I agree and pretty much have done what you suggest. I think middle parts no matter how well done are harsh on a mature face. There may be an exception to the rule but I am not one of those exceptions!
      As we age we are not as pretty or attractive so having great hair can make up a lot for the rest. If they love your hair they won’t focus on your aging imho. Thanks again! 🌸

      Great video! Just my opinion, but I don’t think center parts ever look good on anyone. And especially not men. Our faces are already so symmetrical. Even moreso for anyone whom wears eyeglasses. Too, the longer a person’s hair is, the worse a center part looks. Off-center or side parts break up that symmetry, and make the face much more interesting.

    I'm going to try the zigzag part. One issue you didn't mention widow's peak. It also makes middle parts challenging!

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 роки тому +1

      You’re right! They are a challenge for sure. Try a middle part that’s slightly off center. That should work.

    My natural part is in the middle and although many tell me to try a side part for once, it looks super weird on me and one side of their hair looks terribly flat (I guess because my growth starts at the middle). So as much as I want to, I can't seem to rock a side part.

    Ay menina, adorei! Learned so much from this video. Obrigada! I just did the zigzag on the side to camouflage my roots. And I tried the opposite parting as well the other day. Worked miracles with the volume but once I started taking selfies I cracked and went back to my regular side. Just felt so weird! A matter of getting used to I guess.

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 роки тому

      Wonderful! I am glad that you tried it! I can also totally relate to changing the part back after when you were taking pictures. We get used to seeing our face a certain way and it can be so hard to switch what we are used to. My advice is to try it out a few times during casual events (like going out for a dinner with your friends) and see how you feel. If it is an important event or there are a lot of pictures being taken, keep your part the way you usually do so you don't regret it if you don't love it later.

    Love the color of your hair btw and you're gorgeous so any style would look great.
    What would you say to someone in their late 50s who's been parting their hair the same way and even has a little bit of a 'balding' spot right up front? I've had hypothyroidism for the last 13 yrs and had lots of hair up till then, but fine. Any suggestions on how to hide that one little spot?

    Hola Gabi me acabo de suscribir. Adoro tu dicción!! Te entiendo perfecto y no necesito subtítulos!!! Gracias por los tips!! Tengo cabello ondulado y super fino. Decidi cortarlo hace unos días (media 70 cm) y ahora lo tengo como tu. Llegué a tu canal buscando ideas para peinarlo ya que es algo totalmente nuevo para mi. Cuando intento ponerlo de lado no obtengo nada de volumen. ¿Qué puedo hacer?

    Do you have any recommendations for thinning hair in front? I have a natural middle part, but right in front in the middle area it's so thin you can see most of my scalp and the part is super wide. 😭

      As someone with naturally fine and pretty thin hair I feel ya on this! Here’s my routine that has really helped. If you’re on well water, get a shower head filter. At bed time I massage a few drops of castor oil along my part and hairline, then bend over and gently brush my hair moving all around my head several times with a good natural boar bristle brush (I count 100 strokes). If I’m not washing the next morning, and my hair looks too oily, I dust a little raw cacao/mushroom powder and then brush it through with a boar bristle brush (same bent over/several strokes method.) If I am washing, I use Mane Choice Heavenly Halo Herbal Tonic shampoo, massaging it in gently and letting it penetrate for a couple minutes. I then condition with either Camille Rose Honey Hydrate Leave-in (which I rinse out) or a Mane Club hair mask (they’re all amazing and only like $3.00 a pack with lasts me three showers.) After trying countless shampoos and conditioners I finally landed on this routine because the ingredients are very natural and contain all the essential oils I’ve read about that promote growth and retention. The other thing I do that has been a huge game changer for me is I found a mineral based eyeshadow that matches my hair color, I use it for my brows and eyeliner, but I started judiciously applying it where I wanted my air to look a bit denser along my hairline and part. One other thing to try that I just learned about is sprouting fenugreek seeds and eating a small amount of the freshly sprouted seeds (equivalent to a teaspoon of seeds) every day for 3 weeks or up to three months at a time. Also making sure you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals, especially D3, K2 (specifically K2 vs K1), A and E.
