I think an app or actual human online consult would be amazing. Like you could submit video or a series of photos and you can get the results for you skin tone, face/body type/shape, and be told what hair style, clothing, makeup (what to contrast/highlight, best colors, eye makeup looks, etc), etc would look best on you.
The beauty industry has gotten so wealthy **because** it has created and tightly maintains that sense of self-hatred, through ads, through instagram, through cinema, etc. For decades it's aimed primarily women, and now it's starting to expand to men (look at the increasing numbers of men who wax, get plastic surgery, have started using more cosmetic products, etc). Large numbers of men are becoming more preoccupied by their looks, too. I think the market figured out it could benefit from the fact that gender is now becoming more and more flexible and put into question (for very valid reasons of course). Capitalism appropriates everything, eventually.
I’m a guy and i feel way way more myself with long hair, if you ever get around to it what if you did a video on why some men look really good with long hair and other guys look dramatically better with short
Luuu bna I totally agree most of the time, considering that typically men want to be more rugged and women want to be more polished generally anyway I agree that it tends to be harmonious
Hey I totally agree with you. These principles work with guys as well. Although I wish I could have longer hair, I've kept my hair as a straight bob because it works better for my face shape.
This was absolutely amazing! I learned more about face shape, bob styles and how to cater to you in these 24 minutes than every other article and video I've watched on the subject. Thank you so much xx

I was pleasantly surprised to see how much it brought out my features and I got a lot of compliments for it too
I love what you said about not trying to “correct” everything to an oval face shape! It’s annoying when people act as of face shape is limited to either being “right” or being “wrong”, and especially annoying when people talk about face shape like it’s the only factor that matters when deciding a style.
I also love the concept of each type having multiple options to "feel more themselves". Like, even if you have a particular face shape, you don't feel limited. I love that!
I always had really long hair. Sometimes it nearly reached my lower back. Cutting it was liberating and I felt so much better! Took less shampoo, less time to wash, less time to dry and I nearly never brushed it as it barely had any knots! I also realized that with short hair I finally had volume which suits my face much more. Honestly I think the next two months after I did it I could not stop smiling in the shower while washing my hair lol

I'm a TR/R body type with straight hair, and every time I get a bob one side of my hair curls inward and the other curls outward. If I flat iron all the ends it looks too Yang for me, and if I try to fix the wrong curl it doesn't obey. Every few years I think "why don't I get a bob cut?" and the next day I remember why.
Why not embrace the different curls and make it your signature? Own those asymmetrical curls! 😊 quite a lot of 60s style bobs had one side curling in and the other side out

I love my long wavy hair but this could change when I am over 50. Ally’s videos have an effect of lifting anyone’s self esteem instantly. Thanks to her, I now love my hooded eyes.
I like that you talk about things being proportionate or in harmony. I used to be really self-conscious about my small forehead, hairline and square jaw, and then I saw Rosamund Pike and realized that she had the same kind of forehead , hairline, and jaw, but was confident and knew how to make it work. With her features, style, and personality, she is so captivating. It helped me be comfortable with looking a bit different.
I don't have a square jaw, more a fleshy jawline but yes, small narrow forehead. I looked up pics of Ms. Pike and noticed she rarely wears bangs! I guess that helps to show her prominent eyebrows. How do you wear your hair? I've had just about everything there is. I think the bob I had looked pretty good though and easier to manage.
This is very helpful as I planned on getting a bob the next time I go to the hair salon. Thank you for explaining different types and shapes that go with it ❤️
I had long hair for most of my life and two years ago I started getting bob hairstyle consistently and I didn’t expect to love it so much. I even got more compliments on my looks which is a huge confidence booster. The fact that my hair grows fast means more frequent trips to the salon and I have to stop this year because I need to save money 😂😂😂
@sue pin.it/3CbDxXX Like this pic. Slightly layered, not too much. The front framing pieces are longer than the back. In addition, I also had an undercut because my hair is too thick
I had to cut my hair to a really short bob, higher than my chin, because of overbleaching, and it just looked ridiculous on me. I'm really tall (180/5'11) with pretty oval face shape and it made me look even bigger.
@@BlackPinkize ive seen a video of hers about that :D I think there is a whole series on contouring, number 8/9 is for noses (as far as i remember!) :) xx
"parallel to planet earth" xD best Bob transformation I've seen was in the movie "gone girl" with Rosamund Pike. She's beautiful in general, but this geometrical Bob cut really flattered her and looked grate with body movement. About bobs with a big difference in length between back and front - - it's especially bad for thine hair, I looked like a wet chicken with only few long pieces at the front xD
Omg thank you so much for talking about inverse triangle and pear shape!!! I rarely ever see videos that y’all about faces with jaws wider than the forehead
Aly I always enjoy your videos . You’re so talented. I loved your singing on your other channel too. I often changed hairstyle every few months, from long to bob to pixie then back to bob, long and pixie. Thanks for making videos on different face shapes and body types. You’re honest, positive and beautiful.
This was very informative. Wow. I am thinking of cutting my hair into a bob again after many, many years. I love the fact that it is such a universal hairstyle, but this video has helped me decide on length.
I have always had a round face with chubby cheeks which is great now I'm 51, nightmare when younger never looked my age haha, always had a bob in different lengths, usually chin length as it is at the moment and as I;m only 5ft when it starts getting past my shoulders makes me feel dragged down and scruffy, your Hair looks Gorgeous x
The other question is; Do you enjoy having hair touching your face all day? Do you know how to blow dry your own hair? Ladies with fine, thin, fragile hair, do look great with a classy Bob cut. Really helps to create the best healthy looking style vibe. Definitely visit your hairdresser for a weekly blow dry, if you need help to style it. I have a wide, oval face and wavy hair and I just got an a-bob a few weeks ago and I love it! I had about waist length hair for about 5-6 years until last summer when I decided to get a long bob, which I also loved
@@SolutionsWithin my hair is now waist length again 💕in retrospective i didn‘t enjoy the bob that much bc my cheekbones are just too wide, i didn‘t feel as comfortable. The lob was super cute tho. I won‘t cut my hair again tho since it‘s super healthy and beautiful now. Please let me know what your decision will be 🫶
@@NightmaresWonderland Thanks for the response! I'm happy to hear your hair is healthy and you're enjoying it! My hair is past my bra line. My problem is I'm 53. I look 38 and I still always feel 23, so I have this long mushroom blonde subtly highlighted hair. I guess you hit an age where people think you're styling yourself to try to be someone you're not, like pretending to be young. I guess it's seen similar to trying to pretend you're rich, etc. That said, I can't deny that it's not all society's fault, lol. I notice that when I've had my hair long for a long time, I always decide when I see pictures of short hair, that I want to cut it, and vice versa. I'm also going through a transition in my life currently which I have heard that is a common time to cut the hair off. I go through stages where I want to look good for someone I meet and I guess it is good b/c it motivates me to want to work-out and look extra, but other times I think to heck with it, I think short hair is sexy, like long hair is "trying to hard" like trying to be a barbie (no offence). But generally I have to things going on right now: very often I find people almost offended or shocked when I tell them my age, sometimes even calling me a liar, and I don't like the attention (I'm an Aquarius so I don't like people paying attention to me), and I'm feeling very liberated currently, which makes me think "heck, why am I trying to look like an 18 year old barbie"? Lol. I'm spiritual. Many spiritual people say you should have long hair, but I looked it up and the scientific FACT is that hair is not made of cells, it is not alive, it does NOT have any super powers, LOL. It is simply Keratin tubules (actually kinda gross under microscopes), so anyway...... At first though, a few years ago, I would have killed to have my hair the way it is now!! There's nothing else in life I"m schizophrenic like that about... Just my hair! smh. Oh, last point... I'm also Soft Gamine body type, so supposedly, they usually do not look best with overgrown flow hair, but rather with bob. Wow, your hair grew to your waist in only 4 years?! That's really good! Let me know any thoughts you have! : )
I haven’t cut my hair short for how many knows month so I just need some motivation. This video made me chop it myself. It’s a pity considering I’m trying to rock a longer hair but short hair just make me feel different
Thank you. I have waited so long to hear someone talk about hair but in relation to face shape, body shape, lifestyle and personality. The best yet. I have learned so much and it is obvious this lovely gracious lady knows her stuff. Again thank you. Now where is her next video.
Thank you for showing so many face shapes (I'm a mix of oblong & rectangle) in this and even going into side profiles a little bit. Love your videos Aly ♡
Aly, this is so helpful! I've had a bob before and felt that my head looked like a weird mushroom, lol. You're right, I think it was just too short for me. Now I'm thinking about trying a longer bob. Do you have any thoughts about the "shag" haircut? It seems popular here in the US, but I'm having a hard time sensing who it looks good on.
I never figured out what type I am but I had a shag and I thought it looked good on me. I have strong features. To me it softened my features. Which is what I want. I think there are different type of shag cuts but I would love a video on it.
I have quite a long oblong/oval type face and a shag would make me look quite masculine. Unless i wore makeup and dressed up every day, which i don't! So really depends on the style you're trying to pull off, and are comfortable with. French bobs have some shag elements and are much more flattering on different face shapes!
Oh wow you explained it so well, as usual.. I used to have a chin-length bob and felt exactly the way you described it, I just didn't like it.. But as soon as it grew just a bit, I started loving it! Thank you so much for making a separate video on bobs; I now can't wait for one where you tell us about all of the ways to style them, so excited :) As someone who has been feeling like experimenting with different shapes of bobs lately, all of this makes me very happy haha.. P S You look amazing, Aly!. this style really suits you :)
I honestly looove bobs and lobs, as a theatrical romantic It adds more volume for me so it works! Thanks Aly❤️ May I recommend a video on nail shapes and sizes for each kibbegoey type? That would be amazing❤️
I was always scared of getting a bob because I am tall and thought it would make my head seem small. BUT turns out: It's actually very flattering because the shorter hair adds volume and actually, if anything, makes my head look bigger and everything more balanced :) btw I have very thick hair
I've a oblong face with larger size forehead, so I style the bangs so they accent the brow to make the face look more balanced. But also I have found that some people have mixed face shapes such as oblong and oval, so they are able to do many different hairstyles
I’ve wanted long hair as long as i have remembered. I’m always afraid of cutting off even a little bit. Everyone knows me for my hair. It’s like a part of my personality. But i’ve now realized in the past four years that a Bob would look really good on me. I have a heart shaped face and 2c-3a hair. It would probaply do good for my curls too since my hair is so long that the roots don’t curl and the ends of the front pieces are so dead they don’t really curl either. I’m just afraid of cutting it. It has taken me 14 years to grow my hair to this lenght (waist lenght). I’m afraid of regretting the cut. My hair grows super slowly. I’m also afraid what others would think. My hair is such a big part of me. I’m also a little scared that my hair wouldn’t curl since the roots don’t really curl. I don’t want to loose my curls. I just don’t know what to do. I feel like it’s a change that would help me, make me feel better and make my hair easier to take care of. I’m just not sure if i’m ready for it.
You are so right, so many haiystylist only see the face-shape and if you stand up from the chair your face looks nice but you think having gained 10 pounds.

Judging by your profile picture, oblong
I also think you have oblong face, look at the height versus width, it's considerably taller and also narrow
They say use marker and draw around it on mirror, then step back.
Thank you guys just getting the notification for the first time here 😂
I got bangs I look cute haha
One of the best explanation & tips for bob hair lovers. Thank you love you 😘 ❤❤
I'm trimming my hair soon! It's really to just shear off some dead/knotted ends, but this is making me want a bob, lol!
I see your comment about a year later, I guess lockdowns helped you not spending on haircuts
@@viktoriabarta1519 HAHA yep exactly, my hair is halfway down my back now
@sue round
@sue pin.it/3CbDxXX Like this pic. Slightly layered, not too much. The front framing pieces are longer than the back. In addition, I also had an undercut because my hair is too thick
I’m a male and I’m growing out my hair that way I can cut it into a bob, trying to go for more of a feminine look😊
good luck !!
I had to cut my hair to a really short bob, higher than my chin, because of overbleaching, and it just looked ridiculous on me. I'm really tall (180/5'11) with pretty oval face shape and it made me look even bigger.
You should do a video on different side profiles, I like how you explain things really well 😊
I was just about to comment this! I have a really protruding nose and I'd really love her take on those!
Also, maybe she can talk about how to hide a slight bump on the nose profile by contouring?
_Marina_ Avoid sleek neat ponies and opt for a tousled pony with added height at the crown. Hope this helps!
@@BlackPinkize ive seen a video of hers about that :D I think there is a whole series on contouring, number 8/9 is for noses (as far as i remember!) :) xx
@@elloohno1349 Thank you [:
ive always been insecure about my round face but then you said round faces are beautiful and now i feel loved:) youre so nice!!
I want to hear the video about long hair!! Also, I always leave your videos feeling beautiful. Thank you!
I'm thinking about getting a bob because it's 2020 and I'm a little obsessed with the 1920s :)
Omg thank you so much for talking about inverse triangle and pear shape!!! I rarely ever see videos that y’all about faces with jaws wider than the forehead
Ngl I read the title and thought would Bob Ross suit my face? Got confused for a sec lolol
Ahah me too but I read would boobs suit your face 😂 I was like: whaaat.
Same
Omg are u guys okay?😂
I've been wearing a bob for over 30 years and haven't looked back. It's so sophisticated and timeless.
Last video made me want to colour my hair grey. This video makes me want to get a bob. 😀
do both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This gave me so much confidence to cut my hair short I’ve been wanting to for like 2 years now
Literally needed this video four days ago. Oh well. I still enjoyed it, even though I already got my new haircut. Thanks!
Thank you for including inverted triangle 😭
I have always had a round face with chubby cheeks which is great now I'm 51, nightmare when younger never looked my age haha, always had a bob in different lengths, usually chin length as it is at the moment and as I;m only 5ft when it starts getting past my shoulders makes me feel dragged down and scruffy, your Hair looks Gorgeous x
I'm so happy to have found this channel.
Very good advice and zero negativity.
I have long hair so it would be really interesting if you could make a video about long hair! 💕
The other question is;
Do you enjoy having hair touching your face all day?
Do you know how to blow dry your own hair?
Ladies with fine, thin, fragile hair, do look great with a classy Bob cut. Really helps to create the best healthy looking style vibe. Definitely visit your hairdresser for a weekly blow dry, if you need help to style it.
Great examples of the variations within this particular hair cut.

Cool! I'm about to have my hair cut. It's really helpful 😊
Aly is tooooo smart. She will make the best stylist you can ever have for yourself 💞
I have a wide, oval face and wavy hair and I just got an a-bob a few weeks ago and I love it! I had about waist length hair for about 5-6 years until last summer when I decided to get a long bob, which I also loved
I’m thinking about cutting my hair? Curious: are u still happy you cut your waist-length hair off, or have you regretted it? Thx in advance 🙏
Aly is so pretty i can't even. Loving the hair and make up
I haven’t cut my hair short for how many knows month so I just need some motivation.
She looks and sounds so trustworthy. All knowledgeable. Id trust my beloved hair to her only.
It is so refreshing just hearing someone talk about the pear shape, many people have it and it’s very specific for trend videos. Thank you!! ♥️♥️
Love bobs! I have long curly hair. I wish I can find a hairstylist that can do it right.
Maybe best on naturals and some gamines
@@HumanimalChannel Totally agree! I have one and I'm a soft gamine. It looks very rock n' roll on my features ;)
I never figured out what type I am but I had a shag and I thought it looked good on me. I have strong features. To me it softened my features. Which is what I want. I think there are different type of shag cuts but I would love a video on it.
@@TracyD2 may be you're a gamine!
But wait, what about those with Oval faces? I dont think it was mentioned
Oval face fits with everything 🤷🏻♀️
@@raissa7482 I know but I wanted to know what suits that shape BEST, don't wanna take chances, lol
You can wear almost any style! Lucky!
That's what oblong was 😶
@@apollofateh324 oh, was it now?😅
I had no idea, lol
As a life-long poker straight bob or lob girl, this is so right on! You really know your stuff!
I honestly looove bobs and lobs, as a theatrical romantic It adds more volume for me so it works! Thanks Aly❤️ May I recommend a video on nail shapes and sizes for each kibbegoey type? That would be amazing❤️
i like your comment on the trend of correcting face shape , im glad you voiced that
I did wear it many many yrs in nineties, the hair design is turning back in time, same in fashion are modified previous trends after while
I was always scared of getting a bob because I am tall and thought it would make my head seem small. BUT turns out: It's actually very flattering because the shorter hair adds volume and actually, if anything, makes my head look bigger and everything more balanced :) btw I have very thick hair
Wow! Wonderful, simple and clear information, never heard before about Bob hair cut. 👏. Bravo
You should do a video for extremely long hair (from waist-length to knees and below)
I’m just not sure if i’m ready for it.
buy a wig to try
@@vls7105 OMG,,,hadn't thought of that. I will def. do this...
You are so right, so many haiystylist only see the face-shape and if you stand up from the chair your face looks nice but you think having gained 10 pounds.
Oh my God she really knows her thing , amazing explanation;)
Wow, congrats !!!Never seen such a good explained video about Bob cuts and face shapes :)
