EPIC Wood & Metal Dining Table & Chairs Build
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 лют 2020
- After remodeling almost the entire first floor of my house, in the wreckage, we seemed to have lost the dining table..... I lied. I threw it away. So, now it is finally time to make a new one and try my hand and making some Industrial style chairs. I got some inspiration from Jory Brigham, and designed this white oak and metal dining set.

LOVED that you showed your mishaps and recovers. That happens 90% of the time on new designs and it is super cool to see a production that didn’t gloss over them!
I know cherry and walnut are favored by most people, but for me, nothing is more beautiful than a warm finish on white oak. This dining set looks awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Cool table and very cool chairs. The wood feet can't be a mistake, no way!
10:00 sometimes a mistake forces you to be creative and becomes the best feature of a project. ❤️
Wow gorgeous dining set. I admired the detail of the wood feet on the chairs in the thumbnail before finding out it was a mistake!
John i dont know why you knock yourself down so much. You make beautiful squirrelly furniture. Not everyone can say they made their own furniture rather then buying it.
The on the fly change to the chairs is a ver nice touch.
Damn those chairs, especially with that extension are awesome!
I like how he shows his mistakes and works thru them. Most UA-cam vids don’t show that. This is more original.
Nice work!!
Dude! I was biting my nails scared you weren't gonna finish with all the issues you were having! But, you punched it in the face! Nice Job!
Thanks for the Lincoln coupon- Been looking to pull the trigger on one of those for a while and now I have one coming! I really appreciate the support Lincoln gives you guys as without the maker videos out there, all I would be able to do is work with wood. The video's on Mig welding have taught me a bunch with my trusty old MP210! Can't wait to really see how "hard" Tig welding is......
Chairs look great!
I love how you implement and demonstrate the different tools you have at your disposal. I love the look and functionality of your shop. Can’t wait for the next project.
Beautiful table set. I love the contrast of the metal and the wood on the chairs. Great job.
John, I love your content. You're so candid and organic. You are one of the few who have inspired me to start my own channel. I hope one day to achieve what you have. Keep up the good work!
Love all the learning you did in this build! Always inspires me to keep trying. A become great!
Love the choons dude. Table and chairs came out so good. Brilliant...
Nice recovery on both mistakes - chair legs & the table leg mortise. Woodworking is all about fixing & hiding your mistakes.
As it turns out, I think the chair leg extension was what you had in mind all along, looks great with the symmetry of wood top and bottom.
Love the build! - small detail, but diggin' the wood feet on the chairs.
That table and chair set is gorgeous
Two things: 1. Of all the tools you have, the one I am most jealous of is Sam to do all of your sanding, I've got to get myself one of those. 2. I built my dinning table two years ago and have 4 small children; needless to say 1/8" chamfer profile(my favorite) still left very sharp corners; which led to many small children head injuries. Good luck with that in the future. One can only hope that mine will smarten up eventually. Great job!
I believe Sam is out of stock at the moment... 🤦🏼♂️🤷♂️😂😂😂😂😂😂
Beautiful as always John!!
Turned out amazing!
Love the table and chairs....what a great time to make a mistake! The wood feet are such a great addition to the set!
Great looking table and chairs made to last forever! That's the way my grandfather was (and myself): overbuilt or not at all. Fantastic work!
Really enjoy watching your videos John, very entertaining and educational. Thank you
The on the fly decisions were terrific choices. Beautiful pieces
Love the table and chairs, the added wood to the legs of the chairs looks awesome! and I love how to put your mistakes on here and make fun of yourself. Very real and quality content
nice piece of furniture. Really love the design of the chairs
Awesome. Food for thought for your next breadboards... You can mark out the tenons while the stock is at full thickness and use your router to thickness only them and the tongue. Leaving the offcuts at full thickness lets use reference your router off of them (less tippy tippy) and puts less wear on your bit (since you're routing less wood). No need to thickness what you're going to cut off anyway.
Love it. I only discovered you about a month ago, and I think I've watched every video on your channel. I really enjoy your content and style. Keep up the good work.
That´s a nice project!
Nice work. Epic is really an understatement.
You’re a super talented repairer that inspires me & my crib friends buzz, thank you for it Bro 👊
Such a sick build!!! Love it!!
It's beautiful
That beast is gorgeous!! And that table is nice too....ha! Always enjoy your videos.
awesome job!
That was sweet, nice work.
Sweet looking dining set! 😍👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
I really enjoy the final look of the chairs with the wooden feet. The whole project is great and would love to have something like that as my dinning set. But the only thing I would have done differently would have been routering out a recess for the metal leg assembly's. That way the mounting plate would be flush with the underside of the table.
Your design and creation came out amazing the design details were awesome - no one will believe they were coincidental.
@JohnMaleki you're going to go far my friend. You're honest, entertaining and not above showing your mistakes that makes people think they can make it themselves.
Yeah, a few problems along the way, but no more than any project I ever do for sure. It looks great to me and those small imperfections are what make it yours. Cheers for another great video John.
Badass work
Looks sick guys!
Pittsburgh Dad glasses ehh! Lovely work, sir.
Great table, especially like the chairs. 👍
Rad! Got some good chair ideas now. Thanks 🤘🏻
Table looks amazing glad I found your channel I love watching your videos
Great video, love the inside joke that the discount is the same as the Burgh's area code!
Epic build John!! It all turned out awesome, I wish I
Could afford that welder 😢
Excellent
If you want to make a really nice curved surface, use a small (I'd suggest 1/4" diameter) ball endmill in the router. When you set up the toolpaths in CAM, add more passes with a smaller step-over (stepover is the amount the tool jumps over after each pass). More passes with smaller step-over and a ball endmill will get the surface smoother. This is coming from someone with CNC mill experience making shapes like this out of aluminum blocks. Also, for programming toolpaths, I suggest Autodesk Inventor Professional. It is a good 3D modeling and toolpath programming software.
By the looks of it for your CNC all u needed to change to make a big difference is the bit. Using a ball end mill or a bullnose bit would've left a smoother finish since it was a curved shape
Good job... Looks great.
Great table
Really enjoyed the "theres no pencil there" at the beginning.
Great build! I love the approach you bring to your remodeling it will really give your house a unique feel witch put the history of it in valour!
Little critic though, to much use of words like EPIC, ULTIMATE, AMAZING in the video titles make them sound cheezy and infomercially (if it is a word). I know you are far from the only one to embrace this tendancy and it might help bring attention to your channel, but trying a little variation could be refreshing.
Anyhow, this is not a critic about the videos and i still think your team is really great at building innovative and original builds that inspire me in my own work. Keep on the good work!
Your woodwork is awsome
Can you Dremel any
Any weld process can make a nice weld. Even stick welding. No tig welder needed for weld appearance.
Very nice work. Love your channel. I recently finished a dining room table. Not sure if I can share a pic of it on You tube however.....Semper Fi!
Great looking table top! I wish I started watching your videos earlier. I recently made a dining room table and joined my 2x6s and 2x8s together with... pocket holes! Just waiting for it to explode now. I promise I will never use my pocket hole jig to join 1 1/2" boards again!
Nice job 👍!!!! Billibobob love it
Pretty sick
Good looking table
Excellent products …
Pretty sweet
Looks great John! The chair leg extenders were happy little accidents that make the chairs pop. You can go ahead and admit that that was an original design detail piece of awesomeness!! Roughly how many hours do you have in this build? I ask because I have been building a table over the last 8 months. Don't judge. I only get about an hour shop time per night. Great video.
Is there a specific thickness you make your tabletops? I know this can vary depending on the project but just curious to hear your thoughts. Thank you!
Been waiting for this upload since forever I liked it before I watched it😎
Nice work, love the modern vibe....most people mess up chair geometry.. (nice save)...how do i know??? i am an upholsterer, i see it frequently.
On your breadboard ends, did you make your outside dowel pin holes (thru the tenons) ovals to allow for expansion of the table top later?
I did yes
Love those feet dude!
I'm here because of your fun personality... you should get a tv show! (also, you remind me "The Mountain" :))
Does John MIG weld too? I suck at TIG but haven't done it much. What's better?
If you are buying the Diablo blades, how do you think they last on 1/8 mild? I couldn't get through one table frame without one just stop cutting.
Nice work , what kind of steel you used for chairs ?
What type of CNC software are you using? If you get Aspire you can make the CNC tool paths for things like your chair seats very easily.
THIS IS NOT NAM, WE GOT RULES!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 You are very similar to Walter from big lebowski. Nice work
Dude, where can I buy one of those John "the builder" Malecki hats?
How much time does it take you to finish a project like this?
Those chair legs are a fortunate mistake they look fantastic
Your a braver man than me. I'll build the table all day long, everyone's going to be standing. I cant get myself to build chairs it drives me mad doing them
I know it's a long shot but any chance you can tell me the name of the program you use to help lay out your designs
Do you have the plans for the chairs would love to see them if you do
I do not, i just made them for this project.
The music at 15:15 is Hafthor Bjornsson's (AKA The Mountain) theme song intro to his youtube channel lol p.s. just found your channel the other day and love it!
Oh no! Not the evil track saw!
Videos keep getting better and better keep it up!
Awesome.... Put more damn B Roll please.
Why do you make cross cuts with a jigsaw? Curious on why you wouldn’t just use a skillsaw?
So the kerf doesn't bind up on the blade. Or at least, it is a lot more dangerous when the cut binds with a circular saw rather than a jig saw. Rough sawn lumber tends to move a lot when you cut it, realising stresses
Awesome!! Love it!! Really big inspiration to me
Surprised with your shop location, not the best area lol. You should do a plan for a lager gun cabinet.
12:16 What’s the name name of this machine, and where I can buy it?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏RESPECT John
I thought the use of "EPIC" in the title was just more click bait. Oh, how wrong I was. You KILLED IT!
What type of wood is that?? Is that a wood from teak tree???
Love that shit!
Do you have a PO Box?
You have to teach Matt from Demolition Ranch to weld that he can weld almost as good as his brother Mark
Hi Jhon. First of all Congrats for all your projects. I was told that my youtube videos intro is similar to yours but I’ve bought it on Envato market. I’m sorry for that but it wasn’t my intention to copy you. Have a good job! Greetings from Italy.
