"Whiskey in the Jar" is an OLD folk ballad. Its origins are unclear, but its earliest forms date back at LEAST to the mid-17th Century in Ireland. It was popular in the American Colonies prior to the Revolutionary War because of the story's veiled anti-British sentiment (Irish highwaymen of the 17th and 18th Century were popular folk heroes since they often robbed wealthy British travelers). The modern version began to appear in the 19th Century. It's fascinating just how versatile some songs can be. Originating with a bunch of drunk Irishmen in a pub who might have had a harp, mandolin, or lute for accompaniment, only to be covered over THREE HUNDRED years later by a thrash metal band. This is from the Garage Inc album in 1998, coming 15 years after their first studio album in 1983, so it's kind of smack dab in the middle of their discography.
I still recommend Master of Puppets!!! The album is amazing!! I mentioned on your last video that Master of Puppets is preserved in the Library of Congress
Hmmm… a big Metallica fan and a Latina! Food for thought; think about 3 sisters from Mexico who covered Enter Sandman when they were 14, 12 and 9 back in 2014; Metallica were so impressed they shared it on their FB page! It went viral (now 25+ million views), they did a reimagined version of it in 2021 for the 30th Anniversary Blacklist album ( #1 track!), yes they carried on and perfected their own style. Last year they went on a European tour with Muse (another top notch Hard rock band) and this year they did their own world headlining tour. The band I’m referring to is The Warning, their high points in the past year were Wacken open air and PolAndRock festivals in front of 80k plus audiences, they’re now touring Canada with Halestorm and Evanescence, next year back into Europe because most in not all of the venues they performed at wanted them to come back. If you’re interested, take a look at the Band’s UA-cam channel and Take your pick; everything is documented right back from when they were tiny!
Metallica is why I picked up guitar, and partly why I eventually switched to playing bass guitar. Master of Puppets, The Four Horsemen, Creeping Death, Fade to Black, Outlaw Torn, King Nothing, and Blackened are just a few of my favorites.
This is not actually a Metallica song. It's a cover they did of an old Irish pub song that's been covered numerous times over the years by tons of different bands
Yep. Metallica are fans of the Thin Lizzy version of this song, in particular, that was released in the early '70s. I much prefer the Metallica version.
Whiskey in the Jar is a Alcoholical cover of a song which is believed to b written in the 17th century - hence some of the verbiage. Turn the Page is Metallica’s cover of the Bob Seger song.
Play Metallica live Seattle 89. In their prime when they were young and fierce. When your parents tell you not to listen to it, that's code for I'm gonna listen to this the first chance I get.😂
It's hard to recommend just one Metallica song because their whole catalog is amazing. That being said I recommend one song it'd be Fade to black by them. One of my personal favorites by Metallica.
As a GenX guy, now 50, I was able to experience my first Metallica concert in 1987 as a 12-year-old fan in Zurich, Switzerland! Almost 2 years before that, when I was 10, the organizer wouldn't let me in for fear that I was far too young for this music and concert, despite having a ticket, my sister is 10 years older and was my constant supervisor for so many live concerts by many big acts in my childhood and youth! Anyway, since then I have been friends with this organizer to this day, I have worked myself for 30 years in these major music events, festivals and in my home country of Switzerland, but also all over Europe and have been able to experience Metallica as a "fan - audience - guest" a good 45 times now and have already worked 6 times as part of their personal security team for "Hellboy" 😉 as a driver, backstage security, etc.! Mia, let's put it this way.... the guys from Metallica had been in the business for about 20 years, had been through a lot of shit with the public, the media, James and all his alcohol addiction and drugs, "Alkohllica", "Napster lawsuit stress in the early 2000s" and the band was in this "finding themselves phase" where to go, what kind of sound, which is why, as you yourself noticed, more of a rock sound instead of their "the god fathers inventors" of the heavy thrash metal sound in the early 80s up to the 90/91 Black Album! They were somehow searching for their identity, a somewhat confusing look for all of us, partly emo, especially Kirk with the short hair, black nails and eyeliner etc! I can imagine that your "gym love" when he listens to Metallica during training, listens more to the harder, faster stuff on his playlist from the time before the Black Album, starting with the Kill Em All album.... Greetings from overseas in little Switzerland 🇨🇭🤗🤘🏽
I can think of at least 20 better songs from that, they’ve been my favorite band for over 20 years and I’m surprised this was the next reaction lol not a bad song but I mean you gotta do creeping death, master of puppets, welcome home sanatorium, and for whom the bell tolls next. I promise every song is a banger 🔥
First thing i ever bought with Metallica was an EP called Garage Days. Iwas 15 and the year was 1987 when it came. Last Caress,Green Hell was my anthem from that one. Wanna hear early Metallica listen to that one. 😈😈😈
I love this song. They sound so good playing it live, too. Also, you should react to Metallca's "One" music video. That one's very much an emotional journey in terms of war
I'm very very critical of covers, but this is one that I really enjoy. Metallica did a great job. Metallica Suggestions: Anything on the Black album. Fade to Black King Nothing The Memory Remains Until it Sleeps Master of Puppets (The song as well as the album) For Whom The Bell Tolls Turn the Page (Another Cover but well done)
Megadeth is a band u should check out... Dave Mustaine (vocals/ guitar) founded the band in 1983 after he was fired as the lead guitarist of Metallica (He had a drug problem and a violent temper in those days) just before they recorded their debut album "Kill 'em all"... Mustaine was a key songwriter (in Metallica as well) and although Megadeth could never become as successful as Metallica, they are one of the biggest speed metal bands ever and r still putting out new music and touring successfully... Some Megadeth tracks to check out: 'Holy wars... the punishment due' ... 'Hangar 18' ... 'Wake up dead' ... 'Ashes in your mouth' ... 'Tornado of souls' ... 'Train of consequences'. 'Whiskey in the jar' is a cover of a song popularized by the 70's Irish rock band Thin Lizzy (the lyrics were a traditional Irish drinking song) ... Metallica's (late) bassist Cliff Burton was a huge Thin Lizzy fan and was influenced by bassist/vocalist/ songwriter Phil Lynott... So, when Metallica recorded a batch of new cover songs for the CD 'Garage inc.' in 1998, they included a Thin Lizzy cover in memory of Cliff Burton. At the time, Metallica was in their infamous 90's 'Load' phase and were putting out rock songs rather than metal songs at the time. Some more Metallica suggestions (not rock songs): 'Creeping death' ... 'The Four Horsemen' ... 'Blackened' ... 'Wherever I may roam' ... 'Battery' ... 'That was just your life'... 'Fuel'
@@nicks8131 Metallica also turned into lil bitches and would’ve made the founding members irate! James is retarded we all know that and Lars the least talented keeps his nose up jew ass! They haven’t had a decent song since they ripped off punk to make master!
I'm from Minnesota. Let's get some Prince. You might enjoy his live performance of "Baby I'm a Star" and/or "America". There's a lot of great stuff out there by Prince. Also, great reaction. Let's get some Prince.
Unexpected song from the down era but hey you're trying. I'm telling you "For Whom The Bell Tolls". Banger. HOUSTON GIRL! Lmao. We really do got the prettiest women. I have been to 100 rock shows but never Metallica. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞❤
During the 90's Metallica was trying to go a lot more "Radio Friendly" in their song choices. They wanted to be more mainstream for a while. I think it's totally awesome that they did that. But They definitely have more Metal songs that you should check out. I guess the thing to take from Metallica is that they've never wanted to be just a Metal Band and they never wanted to be Pigeon Hold to one particular genre of music just because people said so and that's why I respect them as a band. They're not afraid to subvert expectations or even piss people off.
OMG - I love this song! I'm so glad you reacted to it. James Hetfield is one of the most manly men ever. This is probably the oldest song you'll ever react to - the lyrics date back CENTURIES, and include some words we're not really sure about the meaning of. Such a different style for Metallica, but it just shows how they can do anything they f'ing want! They did it live in Dubline - this is an Irish/Celtic song, so it had a special vibe. This song is definitely no foreplay. Straight to the action! The Thin Lizzy version of this has a very interesting sound.
You need more of their speed metal days, like "Seek and Destroy" or "Damage Inc" or "Battery" or "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" or anything from Master of Puppets if you want faster Metallica. Thank you for the reaction!
It's so cute that you think your a Metallica fan. You've listened to a cover song and their two most radio friendly songs... If you really want to even think about becoming a fan... Please react to something off of Ride the Lightening, Master of Puppets or Kill 'Em All. Those first three albums defined who Metallica was before they produced a single video or had a single song play on the radio. Those songs will k!ck you in that pretty lil back side. 🤘😜.
They were molten in the 80s. She also needs to give Black Sabbath a second chance, that stupid video attached to War Pigs is an utter distraction and turned her off to a great song.
Given your specific preferences for up-beat songs, I believe you should check out Metallica's "Fuel." It's fairly straight-forward, but right up your alley.
BLEEDING ME, listen to it. Whiskey in the Jar was on Garage Inc that came out when I was in 8th grade and was a cover album of the bands and songs that inspired MetallicA, it was absolute badass snd one of my favorite albums of all time
As You Wish ….. Master of Puppets - Battery - Master of Puppets - The Thing That Should Not Be (my personal fav from this album) - Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Disposable Heroes - Leper Messiah - Orion (fantastic instrumental) - Damage, Inc
As You Wish ….. … And Justice For All (first album after Cliff Burton (bassist) died - the boys were in mourning) - Blackened (there is a reason the boys named their reording company - Blackened Recordings // THE best guitar hook known to man at 1 minute 13 seconds-ish // won’t hear the hook played live, only in a studio version) - … And Justice For All - Eye of the Beholder - One - The Shortest Straw - Harvester of Sorrow - The Frayed Ends of Sanity (this is a good song but, some don’t like it - I think b/c for some, it hits too close to home) - To Live is to Die - Dyers Eve
It's a fun cover of Thin Lizzy's version of a 400 year old Irish drinking/folk song. Not sure anyone does a cover like Metallica, they always do the song respectful justice but also somehow always sound like Metallica. Matter of fact a couple months ago for an award ceremony they covered Elton John's "Love Lies Bleeding" live, with him and his songwriter/composer sitting right there in the audience, and not only nailed it but got a standing ovation.
Nice cover of a cover, they did a great job of it and props to their rock knowledge of the bands that came before. You need to see and hear Enter Sandman in Moscow 1991 before 1.6 million crazy fans on a Russian air base. Total bedlam and they are soaking in the scene and blasting the crowd into a frenzy. Great video! Also Mia, they were heavily influenced by a few legendary bands, one of which was British Hard Rockers UFO. UFO had their first record in 1970 but really caught fire when Michael Schenker came over on lead guitar in 1973, from another great band, the Scorpions. They produced a bunch of legendary albums in the 70s. Phil Mogg is an excellent vocalist, song writer and front man, he has a style I know you would like if given a chance. Metallica and Iron Maiden often play UFO before they go on. Try Love to Love from their awesome Strangers in the Night Live album, it will show you another band that is well worth pursuing. You are a beautiful young lady and nice to see you interested in great, classic Rock. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
at 42, i been listening to Metallica since i can remember, i have 54 songs from them on my personal playlist, if you like more from them i suggest, The Unforgiven - The Memory Remains - Master Of Puppets - For Whom The Bell Tolls - Turn The Page - Holier Than Thou - Don't Tread Оn Me - Better Than You - Fade To Black - Until It Sleeps - Sad But True - And Justice For All
Metallica rock on, oh yes, you should check out kittie it's a Canada female band. As they get older the music gets slower😅. But I love the older Metallica
Recommendation ... Master of Puppets, it is a journey! They have an entire catalog that is unmatched but Master of Puppets is the next logical song for you to check out. The best choices would be the lyric video with the studio recording or "Metallica: Master of Puppets (Live) (Official Music Video)" which later, apparently somehow became their "Official Music Video" for it even though it was recorded over a decade later (("or two" he said, in a high-pitched voice)) with a different bass player. Subtitles aren't available so I recommend having the lyrics up, maybe on another screen.
"the outlawtorn" mia, from metallica S&M. Hicieron un concierto junto a San Francisco Symphony. Is an incredible experience, check it please. Saludos desde españa.
Metallica is one of the greatest bands in the world and their library is vast, you should check out the Moscow videos. I believe they have several different songs from that concert in Moscow, either way there is nothing like 1,500,000 Russians jamming out to Metallica, It's a absolute experience to watch. Keep making the great videos and good luck. 💖👍💖
Should react to Mega Death. Band leader was the original guitarist of Metallica they kicked out. So he started his own band to play faster and harder then them.
Master of Puppets (with Lyrics) would be awesome. One of their best and most famous. Has a deep meaning too. Hope to see if you get the meaning while head-bobbing to that masterpiece. Keep up the good work.
I have teenage twins (a son and a daughter) who got into powerlifting for a few years. I believe i saw that you too are into lifting/fitness. I remember when we were ready to go to their first competitive meet, their lifting coach told me.. Its a little different than anything you will experience. There will be alot of metal playing. I said.. cool! It was an amazing time, great people,.lots of Metallica, and other great metal. Should be great for your play list
Metallica has different eras. There's the '80s thrash metal era (faster, more aggressive), the '90s traditional metal/hard rock era, the early 2000s "that of which we do not speak" era, and then the last 15-20 years which is a combination of all previous eras. The '80s and '90s eras are my favorites. So far, you've heard the '90s era. Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters are both from 1991 and Whiskey In The Jar is a cover song they recorded in 1998. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you'll like the '90s era best for now. Their '80s songs can be intense for new fans, so you might want to start with "Fade To Black" or "For Whom The Bell Tolls". The only songs you can go wrong with though IMO are from an album entitled "St. Anger" (AVOID!).

Its actually a cover to a 1967 beasley brothers song which many bands performed. Metallica's cover is mostly influenced by Thin Lizzy's version.
This version has to be in my opinion the best i have heard. The Director for the video also directed the Prodigy vid Smack my bitch up..
It’s way older than that.
@@stjohntownsend3019 Indeed it is but the dubliners did the current version of the song.
This is an OLD folk song. It goes back to the 17th Century in some form.
You should do “One” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls” next from Metallica. These are some of their best right here.

Master of Puppets w/ the lyrics! I'm sure I'm not the only one who mentioned this.

Honestly Metallica made it much more famous

You are a beautiful young lady and nice to see you interested in great, classic Rock. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
at 42, i been listening to Metallica since i can remember, i have 54 songs from them on my personal playlist, if you like more from them i suggest, The Unforgiven - The Memory Remains - Master Of Puppets - For Whom The Bell Tolls - Turn The Page - Holier Than Thou - Don't Tread Оn Me - Better Than You - Fade To Black - Until It Sleeps - Sad But True - And Justice For All
Time to do some Metallica in their prime. Battery Live in Seattle 1989.
Come on guys…..”Sad but True” is a great Metallica song. Something upbeat I would say their song “Fuel”
It’s your gym crush right here quit stalking me but I’m glad you love Metallica ❤
Metallica rock on, oh yes, you should check out kittie it's a Canada female band. As they get older the music gets slower😅. But I love the older Metallica
You and Metallica love it and you❤
James Hetfield is the greatest frontman in rock history!!!
Check out some sade her music is amazing and a little different from everything you've reacted to think it would a good change of pace
You’d like don’t tread on me, the unforgiven, and sanitarium too!
check out METALLICA - Fade to Black,
check IRON MAIDEN - Hollowed Be Thy Name, The Trooper, Powerslave all very good cardio rythym!!!!
You gotta love Metallica

Metallica is one of the greatest bands in the world and their library is vast, you should check out the Moscow videos. I believe they have several different songs from that concert in Moscow, either way there is nothing like 1,500,000 Russians jamming out to Metallica, It's a absolute experience to watch.
Keep making the great videos and good luck. 💖👍💖
This is a cover of the great Thin Lizzy! They have alot of great songs, how about you react to "Cold Sweat" its a sexy one, you might dig it!
Check out some disturbed. An amazing band and one of the best singers
Should react to Mega Death. Band leader was the original guitarist of Metallica they kicked out. So he started his own band to play faster and harder then them.
I think you would love Motley Crue kickstart my heart
God is good all the time.
It's their tribute to Thin Lizzy
You should react to a band called Shinedown and the song from them called sound of madness. Or Cut the cord.
Master of Puppets (with Lyrics) would be awesome. One of their best and most famous. Has a deep meaning too. Hope to see if you get the meaning while head-bobbing to that masterpiece. Keep up the good work.
We need to go see Metallica together it’s both our birthday months and same day babe let’s go❤

I said.. cool! It was an amazing time, great people,.lots of Metallica, and other great metal. Should be great for your play list

James Hatfield legend
You should react more live perfonmances to appreciate their talents more.
Best of you from The Foo Fighters coud be a great choice!
Metallica Wherever I May Roam!!!!
🔥🤘🏽🔥
Try this one...
"Low Man's lyric"
It's another cover song.
Enjoy 😉
