True Drummer ! I see the Capt Mo / FireBall and thats wasssup!
I was wondering that / you or yall said I won a electric drum set ???
If so where do I give my information. Or how do I claim the price???
@@seanellis3921 Hey Sean I got the same message. Did you reply on the Telegram app?
No , I haven't, here is the app.??
@@seanellis3921 Don’t give any info, it’s a Bot Scam. Sorry bro, people are scandalous and it sucks they’re using Samus’s name
We were getting questions about adding MIDI triggers to the QuietKick... and 66Samus beat us to it 😆. Thanks for the great video, Samus!
You can’t out trigger the god of triggers.
awesome! 😎🤘
That's a nice innovation, for those who can't afford a real bass/kick drum. like myself (*cries*)
This is a completely different application for your product. Someone could use this as a foot switch with a Roland SPD-SX or Octopad in an electronic cocktail kit setting.
Is there anything Samus won't trigger. Lol.
I'm not even a drummer, let alone musician, but I stayed to watch the whole video. You sir are an awesome teacher.
Thank you so much!!!
This is cool! You should get a pair of sticks, maybe a rubber pad. 🤘give it a lil whack sometime! 🤘joinus
You're not a drummer *yet*
Same here. I don't play anything any more but I still watch guitar and drum videos lol
@@Coastfog maybe he made the second best choice and became a bassplayer ;-)
Dude I'm not a metal drummer but this is hella inspiring for drumming in general. All these tips can be taken to other genres as well. Nice
Learned the "don't over practice" rule with guitar. Hard to practice when one can barely put pressure on a string without tons of pain in the finger tips due to lack of callous.
Or if your wrists are one downstroke away from falling off
no matter what anybody says i feel like u can over practice riffs and stuff too. like i have formed so many bad habits from playing the same stuff over and over and over
Sounds like if you practiced more than you would have callous...
It's amazing how no one after 10 days saw any issues with this comment
@@pryingopenmythirdeye1830 Well when first starting to play guitar if one plays too much one will just end up with cut finger tips. Are you really so dense? Obviously after some time it isn't an issue but at the start one has to take it slow. Can't practice if ones fingers are bleeding.
Thank you For cheering up my 14y/o son while he is very sick in the hospital. He loves you more than anything on UA-cam. Getting him this early access has been totally worth it.
Hope your kid gets well soon ❤❤
Hope your son recovers well!
I hope your son gets better really soon!
“Hey son…Samus said ‘sex’”
All the best wishes to your son! Get well and then get drumming!
Practicing to a metronome and practicing at speeds just outside your comfort zone is sooooooo important man. I remember being stuck 150-165 bpm until I started doin small bursts at 170, felt all the muscles tightening up and burning. Then after awhile you gain the strength to control that speed and you repeat. Doesn’t happen fast but that’s how you do it!
that is the way to do it my friend! works for guitar and bass too.cheers!
Bass was way easier to learn i find. With drumming im like stuck at the same speed with my doubles.
any tips for switching from full leg motion to ankles? it throws everything off when I try to go to ankles.
@@insertmetalusernamehere I ran into the problem too, the the thing with ankle motion is you can't do it at slow speeds as it naturally wants to go fast. Practice the ankle motion in the 150-165 range. Just get used to the 'bounce' motion if you will. It took me quite awhile to get used to the motion in order to control it. Do small bursts at first, like maybe 3's or 4's or 5's. Then gradually try to extend that so your playing just a little bit longer. Another one you could do, practice going from 8th notes to 16th bursts then back to 8th notes again but do that exercise for 3-5 mins. The switch from leg to ankle motion, at least when learning it is very frustrating at first. But you'll get the hang of it eventually.
Yeah those "foot in the water" bursts are what always push me over the edge, like giving my body a heads up of what's to come.
Dude, I just got into double bass, and your videos are not only inspiring, but funny as hell. Your playing is great, as are your lessons.
thank you dude!!
For me, this has been one of the best not 'how to learn' videos, but definitely 'how to teach' videos i have ever seen!
Your dedication and patience, the precise words and phrases to account exactly what you mean is what makes it the perfect Samus HOW TO video.
Thanks for sharing your immense knowledge, Sam! The real reason why we all love you
Even as a drums teacher/percussionist I love his videos not only for me but also what could possibly be implemented for students as well
Just wanted to say, even though I'm a guitarist.. I finally started playing the drums for the first time last week. It felt so natural! Watching all of your live streams and videos gave me a huge head start with learning. I can't thank you enough broski!

I love how whenever samus is drumming he looks like he’s having the time of his life its so beautiful
Awesome educational video Samus! You also have a good point when you say to have a little fun with songs you enjoy listening to... Especially with the slower paced ones too.
Raspberry Beret by Prince is a nice easy jog for double bass groove.... Throw in some 32nd note rolls on the feet here and there.
Bro!!! You're the best. I'm looking to improve my double bass playing and chanced upon your video. Also I love it that you mentioned the part about over-practicing. And it's humbling to think an insane metal drummer like you also gets those injuries you're saying. Cheers Samus, thank you so much for the video!
This is the best double bass lesson on UA-cam, very thorough and detailed 👌...totally awesome!
Already one of the best double bass tips vids out there - and it's only been up for two days! The note on not overpracticing is something every drummer needs to hear. Damn dude, this is so good
🙏🙏🙏
Samus, you are an indispensable WEALTH of drum knowledge, skill, feel, approach, (add more here), to the WORLD drumming community.
I’m not going to sob story and all, but I was a drummer from age 12 to about 10 years ago, age 33. Metal and Jazz by the end of my playing, go figure it was those two styles right?! Anyway, I was born with a neurological disorder that of course progresses as I age. And at first it was just severe pain in my spine, like the whole spine not just my low back or tailbone from a shitty throne. That progressed into limb dysfunction, arms and legs (which ended my drumming) then into losing my hand dexterity (which ended my art career).
Long story long, I basically lost my ability physically (not mentally) to continue my arts and career. Which were teaching art and drumming. Now I’m locked in a battle with the state since 2017 suing them for wrongful denial of assistance because the paralysis, by itself, should have qualified me for disability assistance.
So I literally vicariously live through the artists I follow and admire. And being a drummer and teacher and metal as fu_k, you are quite the continuing bright spot in the arts that have faded out in my life and I needed to say thank you.
Being unable financially to become a member of yours, I didn’t know if you’d see this or whatever, but Goddamnit I’m still putting this out there!
So Samus,
Thank You for just being you and sharing it with the world. You help cheer me up and it is apparent you do so for a lot of people. You are an amazing artist, and one of my favorite drummers of all time.
PS, as soon as my attorneys and I successfully sue the state and I do win my case appeal judgment and I start getting disability assistance, I WILL be becoming a paying member of yours.
Thanks Again!

😳 …he saw it!!!
ive played drums and stopped for years. this is always my mental wall. just you making this video means alot sir.
Same here. Start playing again next week after ten years 😁
This was one the most enjoyable double bass tutorials ive ever seen. Your comedy and technical knowledge is spot on. 🤘🏻
This was definitely the most helpful double bass tutorial video I’ve come across. I’ve been drumming for almost 20 years but double bass has always been my weak spot so I just avoided it and veered away from metal. Now that I’m actually starting slow and building my technique and muscle memory gradually, I’m starting to feel much more comfortable and seeing some results. Thanks!
The over practice one is the most important. Was practicing every day at some point and at reached a phase where i was starting to lose speed and shit and that fucked me up. Recently due to school and other things that have occured i have been at a very bad mental state and hadn't played for like a month or so. Sat behind the kit for the first time in a month and god fucking damn i managed to play lucifer incestus, once upon the cross, some morbid angel songs and in general *fast as fuck shit* i used to not be able to even touch. Take breaks, long ones if needed, its very beneficial.
Awesome content Samus, as always. Thanks so much for the lesson. Your teaching style is pretty righteous. Stay groovy.
This is by far the best advice for any drummer wanting to improve foot chops!! Thank you so much for breaking it down. Another practice that I like to do to separate my feet is the hand-foot simultaneous hits, but with opposite limbs. (ie: L hand and R foot hit same notes)
Great in depth video. I really like how you gave attention to proper technique with the throne.
If I may add another tip: write out your drumpatterns in notes. Write each foot/bass drum as a separate instrument, this will give you some insights into what foot should play which notes. Especially if you've played with a single bass drum and only one pedal, as then you are used to having the right foot do the off-beat hits as well. Writing some patterns out will help you see when each individual foot should be playing (usually right on-beat and left off-beat) and should help out spreading the work load between both feet, making the difference in control between them smaller too. No need to write entire songs, just some parts or specific patterns should do the trick.

no bro,
I have just started playing double bass. I have just been alternating (except for paradiddle patterns) is this an incorrect technique?
@@keithbarnes9419 actually imo at least i find alternating every hit potentially better practice than only alternating for fast stuff, but it just kinda depends. I do feel like I wish I had started that earlier though, as if you get used to only alternating bass drums for fast stuff, it gets harder imo to play certain polyrhythms and rudiments and such
So I'd say you're good/ on the right track. But again it just kinda depends. Do what makes sense for the beat/song
@@keithbarnes9419 its ok to alternate 8th notes when starting out. the eveness between left and right foot needs to be developed... but at somepoint you must play 16th notes and higher subdivisions, which will requre more speed from each indivual foot. so having good 8th notes with one foot will be important.. but it depends on your drum progress
Oh-ho-hoooooo YURRRRRRRRRR best DB tutorial ever. Practical, accessible advice.
Thank you so much for this video. You have given me the much needed encouragement to continue pushing my very meager drumming ability. You are a gifted teacher of art, so please continue to inspire all aspiring drummers. You are an angel from heaven~
I started playing drums a few month ago and now i got my double bass kick pedals as well. Such an awesome video, not only for double bass drumming but in general for learning drums ! Thanks!
Very helpful! Thanks for the content and great lesson!
Literally got my double-kick pedal a few weeks ago, this video couldn't have come out at a better time. Thanks Champ!
i got it 4 days ago ^^
Applying the rudiments to the bass drum is the best advice I've heard in a while, and missing in my practicing. Thanks for the tip!
This man’s style and attitude are a blessing. Good human. Great musician. ☺️
One of the best teachers out there, a hell of a drummer and a funny guy: thank you Samus, I have improved a lot my techniques even because you were there teaching what we really need to know in a simple, enjoyable and thorough way . Cheers from Italy🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
thank you so much dude!! cheers from Canada :)
Have to give you much credit! You’re not just an exellent drummer, but you teach at a level that’s going to help so many people! The world of drumming is a better place because of musicians like you. I don’t play really much anymore. I play a little guitar and bass as well. Guess I’m just getting tired an old. But man,God bless you and your method of helping and teaching! I’m subscribing cause you’re amazing. Thanks
wow, thank you so so much!!
@@66Samus you’re quite welcome. This is a little jam I did by myself. I’m nowhere in your league but I have fun on my instruments. Bass and guitar where fun. Drums too. But I play a loose style. I’d love to practice more and record some of my stuff. Wrote a lot in the Metal years I had. If u get time an can listen cool, an if u do listen an have tips I’d listen for advice. Anyway, thanks. God bless! ua-cam.com/video/qSFjB6VEXuo/v-deo.html
This was an amazing video man! Really needed some of these reminders. Been getting into double bass playing a lot and this definitely helped me!
Best tuition video I've seen by far ! Brilliant teacher that is clearly passionate about music.
Hell yeah, playing to Rammstein is great. Great way to get tight and also get more creative
Love it
After about 17 years of playing (with few amounts of practice)
I got a double bass paddle for christmas and even without that my plan is to practice every day i‘m home in the next year and i‘m really stoked. Thanks for this video really gave me some nice pointers and also affirmed me in continuing my rudiments with feet.
Just moved from apartment life to buying my first home and I can now play drums again for the first time in years. This video has really helped me square myself away again. Particularly the tip about spring tension. I had my pedals adjusted way too tight for my current abilities.
Thanks for all you do.
I’m new to drumming and heel up feels so weird to me. Love your videos, thanks for all the tips. And as a guitar player for 30 years I definitely agree, play to a click!!!
This is exactly what I needed…my right calf just won’t contract at 200 BPM and I am always tempted to play right heel down when I play something like “Parallels” by AILD. You should also make an appearance on Marthyn’s channel sometime!
Best double bass learning /practice techniques I've ever watched I can honestly say. Well done sir!
Dude, your playing touch is fantastic. I see so many playing as hard as they possibly can, and into the drum…all the time. Fantastic!
I think a really good song to practice getting used double bass is the intro to Dream Theater-Under a Glass Moon. It’s fairly slow and only uses 4 16th notes. It gets you used to bringing the left foot in and out and if you aren’t the best at double bass you don’t have to worry about fast 16th note runs. Just getting a solid group of 4 16ths
I certainly needed this because I'm getting new pedals soon (Pearl Redline double bass) and on my current pedals I'm popcorn so thank you Samus, sex
beautiful coordination and technique thanks😊
Wow this has been the most helpful video I can find to help me with double pedal!! Thank you for making this!
Plleeaasseee make a quote shirt that just says "You Can't Poop Without Peeing" - 66Samus lol
"for me it's about 180-200". This dude's sweet spot is many drummer's max speed. And then people wonder how he gets so fast...
and next thing you hear him say is "I suck, I can´t play it with both"..
mhm..yeah... you suck, totally... :P
Good vid. Just ordered two of those Drumeo Kick Pads. Thanks for the tip.
Great stuff. You put out good content for the drum community to enjoy. Thanks!! 🙏
I never thought that one day Jesus will teach me to play drum bit. But now it helped.. btw is this heaven?
Yo! Do those beaters feel different than the normal upright position? I imagine you’d might notice a slight difference in the counterbalance but perhaps not?
If you slightly increase your spring tension, it pretty much 100% nullifies the feel difference
@@j-davis7290 🙏🙏
seriously great tips mate ! specially the training and over practice , enjoyment and mental health part ! at the end of the day what matters most is to have fun and enjoy playing the instrument !
I can't overstate what a huge game changer working on my weak side was lately. I'm still at the beginning but it improved *everything* , consistency, tightness, speed. I literally feel a change in my body and how I perceive it, as my weak left side gets stronger and more confident. Weird experience.
I spend at least a quarter of practice on just improvising grooves, leading with the weak side, doing everything that feels wrong until it starts to feel right. Rudiments also helped immensely with both hands and feet.
Many thanks for all of the great and practical tips that have really made a difference in my playing.
You seem like such a cool genuine dude and I appreciate that a lot when watching your content. Thank you man 🤙
Your humor is awesome and to just have that laughter while I practice is soothing and helps me to perfect. A+ brotha
Very complete under all points of view, thank you
Thank You this is really helpful. I will start implementing your suggestions right away.😊
As someone whos has been playing for around 8 years on and off with no double bass once i stepped up to it my left foot was so uncoordinated and still kinda is and this video gave me alot of things to help work on to get better so thanks bro
I love you. This is amazing. Sooo many great tips that even as a guitarist, not learning double bass I can take to heart
2minutes in the vid and I already consider you a legend. Love the energy!
you are too kind lol, thank you
Great video Samus. I finally bought the Ded-200 e-kit a month or two ago that you showcased. I am finally getting into being able to drum and this video definitely is enlightening to me.
I started here and come back to watch this intermittently on my journey to double bass. Still suck but getting better, and the more I learn the more I get out of this.
Thanks man.
Love it!! Need to revisit my double bass playing. Great analysis and commentary!
DOOD! Masterful teaching, thank you so much! Thanks especially for addressing over-indulging the drumming muscles and frame of mind. Both are SO important for all drummers! :D
I don’t even play drums or ever plan to, but I watch every one of your videos!! You’re very enjoyable to watch and love your knowledge and passion!
Much excite to practice when I get home, thanks for the advice!
Absolutely awesome advice. Great video
The using not primary leg tip was crazy awesome! I am ambidextrous, right left-handed but do everything else right handed. With that tip I learned I can use my left leg better for the main kick drum. I can immediately double bass thanks to that!
This tutorial is worth its weight in gold. Thank you, Samus! 🙌 🥁
Great video! Thanks for making this!!!😃 It’s probably the best I’ve seen and I’ve watched many over the years.
amazing video, so much useful information, my double bass routine is gonna change so much, thank you bro
I’ve never played the drums ever, nor do I plan to but I watch your videos because you crack me up. Love the energy and the guidance you give my guy! Thanks for sharing your time.
thank you so much James!!
Love it,the bottle of fireball on the desk to compliment too🤟
Great vid man. Some real great tips and such a great way of presenting 🤘🏻
Brilliant vid, Samus!! 🤘🤘
Wow, you’re so knowledgeable! Thanks for sharing your expertise! I learned a ton, and I’m not even a drummer! Great stuff 🔥
Easily the best tutorial maker I've seen yet. High quality, hilarious, and concise. Love your work my dude! Lines up with everything I've been learning so far.
Found your video on the Donner electric kit when I was shopping for my first drum set last year. Have played music since I was young but never had the means to learn drums (cost/noise restrictions etc). With so many advancements in electronic kits, I felt it was time to take the leap! Happy to say I've made leaps and bounds from where I was, and I already apply a few of these practice techniques to my regular drumming (Haven't gotten to double kick status yet, just trying to get myself steeped in the basics and being consistent). Took a bit of a break over Christmas because it gets stupid hot in summer here but I've been back on it during winter on my days off and I'm having a blast!
I'll generally start with some slow and fast rudiments, then run through a playlist of songs I love to drum to, and maybe even end it by improvising on a track I've not played to yet.
Thank you again for your fantastic content and resources! Rock the fuck on \m/ >.< \m/
thank you so much dude!!!
Excellent advice & really well delivered, thanks dude

thanks for the great tips. will put them to good use!
These are 100% solid points. I had to practice a lot to get my heeltoe triplet feel going, but it's just a must. Control always goes ahead.

Excellent video. Learned a lot. Thank you.
Glad i found your video, it inspires me and that 'Do it now' and 14:51 resonated with me so much Thnx.
That combo of feet and hands at 13:24 had a psychedelic effect on my mind, it looks completely insane on a big screen.
A great testament to how CONSISTENT you are. And that's why you're a great teacher, I can not stand when the beat is off and no one acknowledges it, it grinds my brain.
But when you don't overstep your abilites I can really take in what you say and believe in it. Been looking for a video on doubles that I can take in for all my life, today I finally found it.
Thank you! You reignited my creative flame!
So much great advice in this video, great job.
just stumbled onto your channel and I already love it. great energy; fun and entertaining. subscribed!
thank you so much Greg!!
Finally someone who actually gives detailed instructions, instead of just giving a brief summary and showing 3 seconds of double bass action.
Thank you, 66Samus! This is a great tutorial. 🤘
I just recently got a double bass pedal and this video came out at the perfect time. Thanks
