    I've changed my major 10 times (or more? lost count). Everyone I went into college with is a junior and I am hardly a sophomore by credits. I have no idea what I want to do. & also, you made the decision to do nursing in that moment because you thought that was what you wanted to do. That was the RIGHT decision for that time in your life. Now, it's not. But you couldn't have known that! Thinking about decisions like that really helps me a lot. :) It served a purpose for a bit and now you need something else...and that's okay.

    It really helps me knowing I’m not alone. we’re not alone, you aren’t alone.
    I’m 25, and I just decided what I want to pursue, and maybe once I start classes, I’ll end up thinking the same thing, this major isn’t for me, and I’ll be 30 by then, so I too feel overwhelmed with thoughts of “is this the right path for me? Is this the right decision?” I’m afraid of the unknown as well. That fear kept me out of school for 6 years, but I realized “I’ve been paralyzed with fear for 6 years, time is passing by me and I haven’t done anything”. I beat myself up for it because I feel like I could’ve been done with school by now, instead I’m just now starting. I hope everything works out in the end for us, but I’m scared and anxious. We will make it through though! And like you said, it’s not funny now, but we’ll be laughing at this in 10 years 💖💖💖 good luck and happy wishes to you!

    I randomly stumbled upon this but we are very similar. I used to be a nursing student and LOVED the in patient psych unit in clinical. However, I generally disliked the other aspect of nursing. I felt hopeless and didn't know what to do, so I quit pretty far into the program. I was watching all my nursing friends continue on and excel at what they were doing, and compared myself to them because I felt so unaccomplished and had no idea what to do, and I am also very indecisive. But while in the psych unit I realized I was working with social workers all day instead of nurses and I made the switch and graduated with a BSW! Best decision I made. Im now planning on getting my MSW and thinking about a private practice. I wouldn't believe what I am doing now 2 years ago. You got this!

      I am applying to nursing school now but I know for a fact my heart is in social work too! I only picked nursing for stability. I see so many negative reviews of the social work field and pay. Were you nervous to make the switch?

      Nik Nik I was nervous! I was in nursing for job stability and I think that’s what me not like it. Sure a small part of me wonders if I stuck with it. I read many social work forums and honestly I think it comes down to work ethic and motivation. However If you stick with nursing you can always become a nurse case manager! Identical to an LCSW.

    I started nursing school at age 25. It took me 7.5 years to complete my BSN including prereqs. I got pregnant during nursing school, I was in an abusive relationship, I failed 2 nursing classes which is an automatic fail from the program. I had to appeal multiple times until they agreed to let me retake the class. I saw all my classmates graduate ahead of me. Some started NP school as I was still struggling to finish my BSN.
    I was also not one of those ppl who were "born" to be a nurse. I chose nursing for practical reasons. Good income and benefits, flexible schedule and many fields to choose from.
    My advice to all of you is don't give up. Dont quit school. The first year as an RN is also very hard and a total culture shock from nursing school. But things DO get better. You may hate bedside but find your calling as a RN case manager or school nurse. You can travel and make a killing (travel nurses making $95/hr right now with Covid. $145/hr overtime). I do home care visits now which is so freeing.
    Eveybody has their own path . Whatever you choose is fine
    Just remember, time does not matter. 24 is still a baby!!!
    Good luck, everyone. 🌈🌈🌈

But at the end of the day you do what you’re happy with, I’m very aware nursing school will get tough but I’m willing to go through it “it’s not forever.” Good luck

    I am in the exact same boat as you, except I was in physical therapy school. I enjoyed my clinical experience but the schooling for it was not enjoyable for me at all and I was debating if I should just gut it out or leave a situation that was very unhappy and anxiety inducing for me. I was also doing poorly on practical exams for in my opinion were things that should be pointed out but not warrant failing/ getting ejected from the program for example I failed a practical worth 35% of the grade for running out of time. We often have more opportunities than we think and it will be very important to keep pushing forwards I bet there are a lot of people out there that felt like we did and they are not bringing it up publicly too though.

      Thank you for sharing your experience! It's really hard being in a position like this. I think it can make us feel very vulnerable and insecure. I think you're right though that we often have more opportunities than we think. All we can do is move forward. I think these types of experiences can really teach us a lot about ourselves. Wishing you the best of luck 😊

      I don't know anything about pharmacy college unfortunately! Nursing is not only a lot of memorization but there is also a huge focus on critical thinking skills. Also, it's an extremely hands-on profession which is something I realized I do not like. Wishing you the best of luck with this hard decision!!! 💕

    Im going through this right now . I got into the nursing program and this is a huge decision for me if I should switch to education . I start the program on the 18th but deep down I know it’s not for me deep down I know that I’ve been pulled into this by my parents vision . I don’t know what I really want to do .. I’m young and lost that’s how I describe myself right now . Just like you I have the fear of the unknown and I wish I can see my future in what I’ll become .

    Graduated last year, and I thought it’ll be easier for me to get a job once I get my degree. My registration application got rejected, because they wanted me to take an English exam (Australia), though I’m a citizen. I always compare my situation to others, like how come their situation is lot easier than mine. I haven’t done my exam yet, because of covid and the stressed that I went through the whole process. Now, I’m double thinking if I should still pursue nursing. I don’t know if I’ll be happy in the long run. Btw, thank you so much for the video, I know it’s hard but we got this! God bless you! 🤗

    This is what makes you different. So many of us don’t know what to do next! You’re not a trainwreck and indecisiveness just means you’re curious. Don’t beat yourself down, life does that enough and never compare! If we could trade problems with others, we would run to have our life back! Be happy for people because you never know what they had to go through to get to where they are. Through change we find out what’s meant for us. Don’t rush what’s going to happen anyway. Enjoy what’s in front of you. If we knew what will happen next we would never experience true joy in the unknown! Embrace it. Sending hugs. Life will unveil itself until then have fun! 🤷🏽‍♀️😝

Im really a beauty & fashion type of person. I like doing hair & I also had a online boutique and I might just go back to doing those things bc they made me happy. I just have to make my mind up.🥲

    I quit nursing to and decided to do psychology but when I researched the pay it’s making me rethink. Your young try not to worry I’m just trying to do what makes me happy. What do you think about the pay rate for psychology? Does it discourage you?

    • @neeneek.369
      @neeneek.369 3 роки тому +2

      I know you didn’t ask me but I switched my major to something similar (behavioral and social sciences) to become a mental health counselor,so I’ve been doing a lot of research on these fields, and you can’t really rely on what the internet says about the pay because psychology is such a broad topic, and there’s several specialities to major in (for example there’s a special major of psychology to work in the Human Resources field. I didn’t know that). Then there’s different levels of education. The pay varies by things like specialty, degree level, licensing (or no license and just a degree), and what specific job (and there’s so many jobs that hire people with a psychology degree that arent obvious jobs that even seem to have anything to do with psychology. My advice is to do some research on what you specifically want to do in psychology. Then research the pay in that specific job title. You may even find that what you want to do doesn’t require a degree in psychology, and instead you get one in behavioral sciences like me, then do mental health counseling, school counseling, and so forth in a masters program. Hope this helps.

    • @jennylauren
      @jennylauren  3 роки тому

      The pay is actually something that does not worry me. Typically here in Canada psychologists can actually end up making more than nurses. Even if that wasn't the case, I wouldn't feel discouraged though, as long as I'm happy! 😊

    I stumbled upon your video and now I've thought about what will truly make me happy sine I do want to care and help people. I'm currently taking my 1 or 2 of my last prerequisites for Nursing, but I'm killing myself with keeping in a court with a horribly professor and lack of interest (I think it has a lot to do with online school). I talked to my academic advisor and we got onto the topic of becoming and SLP since I can still work with kids, help them and it's more somewhat medically inclined but in a different way. Did you ever feel drained in your pre-requisites? I aced and loved last semester, but now I literally hate it.

    • @jennylauren
      @jennylauren  3 роки тому

      So sorry for this late reply! I have heard that SLP is amazing!!! Interestingly enough, here in Canada there are no prerequisites for nursing. Basically you just need super good grades either straight from high school or from previous university courses. So I wasn't drained in that sense, but I was definitely drained from all of my nursing classes!

    I guess most of the young generations in America don’t worry about pay check. They only pursue their dreams. Check the job market in psychology and you might be thinking about going back to nursing for a pay check in the future. 😂
