Japanese cars like the GTR are about perfect refinement and squeezing out every last drop of out the car to make it go fast without having 5 or 6 litre engines....
The Nissan nismo is a twin turbo were as the 911 gt3 rs is an naturally aspirated engine and it has a lower lap time than the Nissan which is 6:56

It's amazing Nissan in such a short times developed this version of GTR to be so fast. It's like 10-12 second slower than the million dollar? 918 which has 300 hp more than this GTR plus a tone of electronics and torque vectoring of the front wheels by the electric engines. Well done Nissan.

The Nismo is actually 10 seconds faster than normal GTR. I know it will cost much more to shave of those last seconds. I was just impressed by Nissan's results and how fast Nismo actually is.

Yes I know, that Nismo is the track pack option. It's like 911 that has 5-6 different levels, the same with GTR. And anybody can buy that Nismo with track pack. It has nothing to do with marketing, I'm not even a GTR fan but I'm impressed with the car, as I'm impressed by 918. All I said was it's impressive Nissan could build the car in such a short time and that it was so fast compared to 918. It's only 10 seconds slower than 918 around the ring. But that does not mean GTR is at the same level as Porsche in refinement and so on. Just damn fast.

This Nismo was fitted with the optional Time Attack package, something that will be offered to customers and some of it's components will be in the regular GTR Nismo. It's like me saying this Porsche 911 was fitted with optional package and you saying no it's a GT3. There are different 911 and there are different GTR.

The differences to a regular GTR Nisamo are these: it features a much larger rear wing creating more rear downforce, super lightweight bucket seats reducing weight by 50 kg, different dampers and brake pads as well as a new ECU map.
The same kind of differences you find when you compare a 911 turbo with a GT3.
It is a surprising thing that Nismo's Japanese mechanics and engineers can speak English. I'm a Japanese living in Japan, so I know very well the fact that mastering English is very difficult for Japanese people who live in Japan. Italian, German, and Spanish and so on are relatively similar to English but Japanese is completely different from English.
They are awesome so they made the awesome GTR and even pushed it to its limit ! Nice Japanese sport car !
Most of them actually speak great English. I know several of them. Very cool to be able to interact, and even better when we get into the international talk of cars.

Dont forget these guys are communicating globally with many different nations so are more likely than most Japanese people to speak english
Am I the only one here who respects both the ZR1 and the GTR. they both have different perks, the new Z06 will be the best corvette ever built, if the new zr1 does not overpass its perfomance. Honestly hating on the GTR and on the corvette won't get you anywhere. I am sure more than Half of you comparing them could not afford to get them, yet you act like you know everything/
Can I or others own either one of them isn't = can I compare them. If that are equaled, I bet you shouldn't even mention them in here. Of cause ZR1 need try hard to be good as GTR, they're in same class. The GTR weight 200kg heavier than ZR1 and also with 1 passenger onboard, still crush ZR1's 7:19:63 with 7:19:46.

How Nissan differs from others :
At the end of their record lap,
Nissan will say : We hope this GTR Nismo will add enjoyment to customer's lives.
But the others will say : We hope our customers will use the record to says other cars sucks.
A "cheap" Nissan GTR is just 11 seconds behind a $845,000 hypercar. That's impressive.

The Nismo that lapped the ring here is with the track pack which is being sold to customers that want it. Ohlins adjustable dampers, fixed racing seats, loads of carbon fibre goodies, a 65Kg weight loss etc etc. So this is a production car that you can buy.

Not a production car. The Track Pack is different from the "Time Attack" which is what you see here. Yes, it has different dampers and brake pads, and seats, but it also has aero that may or may not be street legal and tune that certainly isn't emissions legal. This lap was also set with 100 octane fuel, so that's why the record means shit.

iLLM3 Yes, the Nismo GTR is the factory tuned version of the GT-R.. Very much like how the Porsche GT3 or GT2 is the factory tuned version of the 911 and 911 turbo.

Vettes are impressive. But GTRs are beasts.
The difference is Vettes set their lap times with stock cars. Not extensively modified track cars that aren't street legal.

Stephen R A regular NISMO GT-R is street legal. Even one with the Track Pack is street legal. But the one shown in the video? Not a chance, and nowhere near being a production vehicle. While the lap is impressive, it's invalid and does does belong on the list of production vehicles. Different brake pads, dampers, modified torque vectoring system, non emissions legal tune, 100 octane fuel, different aero, and fixed race seats that remove over 50 kg from the car. It was set up for the Ring and it was nothing like what a real production Nismo will be like.

Played this track on Gran Turismo 6 (on PS3) with the GT-R and I maxed-out everything on it (using Soft Racing tires). The suspension was making the car jump around the track (Racing Soft as well), so had to use a lot breaks as the track has a lot of bumps even in [almost] straight lines.
I even got the car roll upside down during some corners because it is able to turn sharp, but the car's weight is still so high that it rolled over.
Managed to get less than 7 minutes with the bare PS3 DualShock controller.
I'm guessing the Nismo is a highly tuned vehicle, and I can see from what they did in the video with all the dynamic tweaks, it was absolutely essential because like I said, it was almost undrivable with all the power the car has. But I don't know why 7.08 is such a great time at all; given the fact the GT6 is a simulation of the real-world and cars; lap-time above 7 minutes is really not that exciting.
I find it somewhat relaxing to read these typical comment fights about cars that none of the commentors will ever own or even drive :) How about just enjoying the video an appreciating a great car?

love how it always falls back comparing the gtr to the zr1/z06.... you cant compare them.... one has 4 seats and a trunk capable of carrying groceries, and can drive through snow.... $100k for a car you can drive EVERY day of the year, or $90k for a car you can only drive 7-8 months out of the year in a place that actual has seasons

Honestly, how much more disappointing can you be, Nissan? I was pretty excited about the GT-R Nismo, did a little more research, and found that link. Not to say I'm not excited anymore, but it is honestly disappointing for them to claim a lap time for a falsely advertised car.
I think he's talking about the fact that the Nismo GTR shown here in the video that posts the 7:08 is not going to be the same Nismo GTR that's going to be available to the public. If you read the article it states that the engine is tuned differently and the aerodynamics and body is different as well. I THINK that's what he's talking about.
The car advertised to have done the 7:08 lap time will not be the car sold to the public.

Redswipe As ewt415 quoted, it says exactly that. Read the article where it starts "The 7:08.679 Nurburgring car." Nissan made this "Time Attack" car specifically for the Nurburgring and it's NOT the NISMO GTR that's available to the public.

Take the best engine, transmission, brakes and electronics then add all of it to a small cruise ship and you have the GT-R... Restricted potential due to it's 3900 pound weight. It's 2016, there is NO reason why this car or something similar to it should weigh more than 2900 pounds. Imagine, take a 2900 pound GT-R and fill it with 6 people weighing 170 pounds each. THAT is the EXTRA weight it's carrying around. Failure...
what a boring video. i watched the 1st half and not gonna even bother with the second half. tell us what changes you did to the car, and why. what improvements did those changes make? this video is just a bunch of 'feel good' footage of the car on the track, and some tokin footage of people removing wheels or turning bolts for no given reason. weak. dislike.

buklao559 lol, of course V8's are overrated its the perfect engine type. Its as big lenght wise as a 4 cylinder motor, has better powerband than a 6 cylinder and doesn't cost as much or take up as much room as a 10 or 12 cyclinder engine.
You gotta look at the big picture bro. Chevy V8's are dirty cheap in the states and Australia, that's why no one uses Nissan engines in 240's/Silvia's for drifting anymore. They're damn near indestuctable as I read an artical of two builders ripping the motor out of an old rusted Suburban, changing the oil and the motor fired no problem. The cars themselves in America are always questionable, I'll admit that cause the interiors sometimes are just shit but no one can question the engines theirs simple and get the job done.

The FIA disagrees, especially in Formula 1 where they are phasing out the current V8 engines in favor of Turborcharged V6's starting the 2014 season.
Sailor Enlil Im not into F1, although even I know the FIA is huge and can afford to use V10 and V12 motors like back in the golden era, but because of deaths of legends like Senna they have been purposely slowing the cars down (by deleting cyclinders and lowering displacement) for years now to make them safer, similar to Nascar when Eranhardt SR died. The end game is to totaly phase out gasoline engines for electric motors which might kill F1 IMHO.
SpikeRazzor"Deleting cylinders" to slow them down doesn't explain the use of V6's back in the late 80's. Aryton Senna's Championship winning Mclaren MP4/4 in 1989 used a V6 (which was one of the most powerful engines of its time). The main reason this time for the change to turbo V6's was to make the engines "greener" (i.e. consume less fuel and generate less emissions).

Every car on Nurburgring have good tyres! Also as you can see the official video of 7:08 GTR, it got lots of under and over steering. I am not the one who build or design GTR, but I'm pretty sure the secret is in vehicle dynamic control. go through corners as stable and as dynamic as possible.
I'm pretty sure a lot of the under the hood / suspension / weight savings work helped, but the tires are technically an extension of the suspension, absorbing bumps, sidewall bending just right, keeping sticky, not overheating etc... but rarely talked about. =) Look at the tires in the top two runners.
Yes, tyres help suspension, damping, steering etc...but in GTR, tyres help 30%. The main point is vehicle dynamic control or "race mode traction control". That's help the car to be as stable as possible, no spinning when accelerating and cornering. Other 10% goes to AWD through turn out.

The production model going on for sale will probably not be able to achieve this time with out some tampering. Not even with a pro race driver like Michael Krum at the wheel. I think that goes for allot of these cars that do the super fast Official Nurburgring lap time before going on for sale. None the less an amazing achievement.
I would like to see a small run of gtr's with a manual before they stop production. At least 100 units or so.

Seeing that they already had Sebastien Buemi from Infiniti Red Bull Racing help develop this car, why not go the extra mile and have some feedback from Adrian Newey or design some kind of aero package to further improve the aerodynamic capabilities of this car. Nissan is the parent company of Infiniti after all.

For anyone criticizing other companies such as Porsche for "iffy" lap times......here is something to think about, real hard.
"The Time Attack car, as Nissan refers to it, car had bigger spoilers for more downforce, different dampers and brake pads, bucket seats that contributed to a significant 50kg weight saving and a new ECU map. Together those modifications could count for several seconds around the ‘ring, but perhaps even more significantly the car used to set the time had been tuned specifically for the Nordschleife, as NISMO’s engineers confess."
They claim those parts will be on whatever N/Track pack options list. The ECU was remapped with higher oct fuel.
what so bad about this if these upgrades are part of a valid trim level? and... who owns a GTR that is stock nowadays? my own at litchfield stage 2 is pretty 'mild' compared to most others on GTROC, but still this represents an improvement of circa 120bhp over it's original (2009) stock of 480bhp and god knows what torque hike

As an average joe I bought a second hand GTR last year. It's nice to sit at a light and #1 nobody knows what i'm driving #2 no one can beat me off the line #3 my annual taxes wouldn't represent any of that. I once commuted home with a Go-Pro camera mounted to the front and on my channel I will show you what a regular dude does when he thinks left his oven on.

I don't hate the gtr. I used to love it. I just hate what Nissan has done to the car. What it has turned the gtr into. It has messed up its reputation.
Back then it was pretty honest. Now they keep hiking the price way up and have all these "behind the scenes, read the fine print" performance packages and tunes on their nurburgring lap cars.
I honestly feel sorry for the gtr. It's a great car but it's being brought down by Nissan.

Or you can just buy a $110k c7 zo6 which has beaten the nismo around VIR and streets of willow. $40k less than the nismo right there.
Then there's the old c6 zr1 which u can find used at Chevy dealerships for only $60k which is faster than a nismo around Laguna seca. Sheesh open your eyes. I almost feel sorry for you because I was once like you a few years ago lol.
SZ S correction, the nismo is slower than the z06 around willow springs. The first z06 MT tested had a caster misalignment, the 2nd car bested the nismo despite being manual and costing $110k all together.
Also its slower than the 991 gt3 around blighton circuit. Which costs $130k and has only 475 hp, with an inferior power to weight ratio.

Man I love the car and what the driver did but I have a few points to make. Many in press have drove production GT3/NISMO. They stated those three test mules look very different for models they sat in. Aero parts seem tacked on and very light. I know they have a N-pack and Ohlins manual shocks options.
My questions are always, what fuel was used?You can even say something about the engine also. What kind of thermostat is being used?, meaning 160" or lower. I could go on and on. Nobody is there monitoring this, so these questions can be asked. I think this is fair to say.
There are reports a ZR1 will be made. It is likely be twin turbo. I figure of 700hp+ seems possible. The New Z06 650/650 time will be lower.
ewt415 Actually, you can buy the NISMO 7:08 version. It cost about 120-130 pounds in the UK (with the Track Pack addon). Top-gear has a spread on it on their website. Just type "buy nismo gtr" into google and it should be the first link in the list (after the ads).

I agree with your comment ewt415. Nissan isn't pulling a car off the "volume production" line and running it on the ring! This car is not in any way shape or form a true representation of a street Nismo. No wonder Porsche called them liars a few years back!
The only thing to remember is that unlike the R33 and the R34 the R35 has performed poorly in real racing. They built a car which could perform as well as the old 997 Porsche 911 on the road but in terms of racing success on the track the R35 is amateur league.
But the biggest failure is that Nissan are still selling the R35 with no plans for a replacement when Porsche have moved the game on with the latest and superior 991 GT3
For all the people that say this car is not street legal... find out what are the mods on this car and compare and contrast it to the nismo gtr that nissan and their dealerships sells. That should give you guys some clarity so all this bickering about cars would stop. I won't go on a corvette video to just hate the car and the same goes for any other car manufactures. I go to learn about it and develop a preference

This is a special spec for the nuburgring which is similar to the Lexus LFA Nurburgring edition. Still the lap doesn't count since its a dedicated package

I agree with your comment ewt415. Nissan isn't pulling a car off the "volume production" line and running it on the ring! This car is not in any way shape or form a true representation of a street Nismo. No wonder Porsche called them liars a few years back!

Mark j it's possible. Some of you people will never even see this track In your life. I've ran with guys running in the 730 min range and it's not all about horse power, it's possible. We ran a 730 in a m3 and wasn't crazy horse power or on a slick. Just a tune and few exhaust parts and all suspension work and a driver that knows the track well.
It took Porsche a life to beat the GT-R (once Black Edition appeared, 911 GT3 4.0 beated it) and now the GT-R Nismo appeared. And took almost 15 secs!
It's obvious that all the cars that beat the GTR had at least 40 BHP more or were light as father like the Radical! all these things considered what this video showed us was one of the greatest engineering accomplishments in modern automotive history! I can pretty much guarantee ,and i am no expert , that non of the cars had much advantage around the 90% of that track. It was the long straight near the end where they are able to pull away with their superior aerodynamics ,power and weight .Imagine that and the probability that the GTR is the heaviest of all the cars in the top 20 times with straight 6 engine and four legitimate seats. If this car was made in Europe or America it would be a household name .
I find it very, very strange that they started testing of the car without the aerodynamics.....
Aero will influence suspension loading and of course change the characteristic feedback and tire loading on the car. Aero work means that you redo the balance of "Everything".
Same thing in forza, aero can hide problems, you start with the basics and add drivers aids after everything else has been optimized.

vevohoeyo I gave my informed opinion based on experience and knowledge. You gave your miss informed opinion which i can disprove. You incorrectly stated,"you are obviously unaware that the weight of this car helps it grip and achieve such lap times." This is simply not true. If we look at an F1 car for example you will see that they have made the cars extremely light weight about 1500 lbs. This light weight allows the car to accelerate brake and corner much faster as it has less mass. In addition an F1 car can generate nearly two tones of down force keeping the wheels firmly planted at high speeds which increases grip and therefore allows for higher cornering speeds. Your logic says if the car just weighed 2 and 3/4 tones it would be able to achieve the same thing because you think weight is what allows a car to be fast, as you can see i just disproved that. This is some basic stuff man, most real car guys know this. On a final note i am aware that the designers of the gtr were not out to make a track day play toy let alone an f1 car for the road. They stuck with the heritage of the gtr as an affordable sports car. I apologize for this disgusting mountain of text, i don't normally do this kind of thing

Please dont talk crap all over the internet for fuck sake... i bet all super cars need Research and development and multiple testings to get good results which is the same thing did by nismo...all cars are ever tuned before rolling out to be sold based on their earlier on trial and error on which settings suit the car best... criticizing nismo is like criticizing tommy kaira tuned the R34 and TVR tuning Porsche as base cars to begin with...
