im not even a Porsche lover but the Porsche is miles better looking
*Bring back Tiff*
I love Tiff but I don’t think it’ll ever happen. Apparently he pissed off a lot of upper people at Discovery UK which got him sacked. He’s testing cars on the YT channel LoveCars now I saw
@@chrisdooley6468
What did he do mate? Didn't know this
I'd buy an older model GTR and then give it a quality all round tune (engine, suspension, lightweight parts etc) As long as things were done to a reasonable level you could daily drive it AND have an epic car for track work/hill climbs etc.
U could get it up to 1000hp quite easily

Pick one
Well the old car's chassis probably won't be able as good as the new one though but I did see a supra from last gen in nurburgring ripping.
@@zinnyc6757 was the Supra home built? I watched a great UA-cam vid of a (I think?) British guy that got a very impressive Nurburgring lap time I'll out of the tuners favourite 90s Supra.
The biggest problem I'd have with the GTR is the service intervals & don't they have a chocolate gearbox?
Both are so amazing cars.... but im jdm fan... so GTR all day haha
This is literally the hardest for me, because I'm a huge jdm fan, but I was.brought home in super beatle, so I feel I have this hard connection to porsches...
@@trevorjacobs1282 porches are only german cars that are good. And thats my opinion. They have their desighn wich they hold for a decates, simplicity in interior and insane lunch control... to sum my toughts, porsche is a supercar i would take before ferraries, lambos and all those fancy stuff... simple but insane... just like mazdas
But is it NA?
I've owned 2 R35 GT-Rs (an MY09 and MY13) and now own an MY19 991.2 911 GT3 RS (in Lizard Green, as featured in the video). Sorry but the my GT3 RS smacks all my previous GT-Rs, hard.... I really enjoyed my R35 GT-Rs but my opinion is the R35 GT-R is a grand tourer, it's too heavy to be a true track car....
The good thing about the GTR it is that its still a street cart. You can daily drive, park anywhere, give it some miles, mod it - GT3 RS it is more of a track car. Imagine a road trip on a GT3 RS! That must be so paintful
Since Jeremy and co. left TG I appreciate Fifth Gear much more
Yeah me too...am getting used to the charm of Karun chandhok
Always good to see Plato
why can't Fifth Gear afford a single test on a day where it is not raining??? Every video: Sorry guys, it rained. Maybe they need to test the cars somewhere besides the UK?
@David David I enjoyed it too, dave. Just can't see why they can't run the accel tests on dry days. They do have the cars loaned for a week. When we test race cars, and it rains, we have 2-3 different tires to choose from. These shows just bring what they brought. I'm not sure that I've ever done that in a race......
@@johnm5131 top gear bro
@@johnm5131 my guesses;
1) british weather, 7 days of rain is nothing unusual :-(
2) they are road cars, so would run on the all-weather tyres the manufacturer sends the car with
3) Its an entertainment show, not a formal test
All wheel drive should win drag in wet
Worst Case Szenario for a Drag Race. RWD Vs.AWD in wet conditions.Absolutely useles comparison
Is the same to both...
Well to be fair look how wider the porches rear tyres are compared to the Nissans
peacemaker - GT3 also runs Cup spec tyres - best suited to dry grippy roads and track work.
anyone know if this was even a quarter mile??
Szechuan chicken anyone?
Tbh im a gtr guy but I would chose the gt3rs or with the money buy the Litchfield tuned gtr
10:25 Well R34 can buy 2 or 3 X R35s now. so you can get it with NISSAN, too... Check the market prices and update yourselves maybe
I would have preferred the F1 drive to both track times. I love the GT3 RS but I think it would have been a more balanced review.
I could not choose between these two. I am a major Porsche fan but the GT-R is a monster as well, seats 4 and has a massive boot, ie it's very practical in daily use.
The Nismo is not practical at all, that ride quality is so harsh.
@@CP-vg4vy I said practical, not comfortable. There is a difference. You can travel somewhere with 4 people and luggage in the Nissan. It has a big boot, and actual space in the back. Practical.
AllAhabNoMoby Comfortable is a factor of being practical, whats pratical about having you’re knees up to your chest in the rear seat while the ride kills your neck. Non-nismo GTR would be more practical.
Content related to GTR Is always interesting
Anyone saying they would take the gtr has not driven a gt3rs. There is something special about the way it drives. Like it's connected to your nerves. Truly amazing car.
You keep saying it's the same price, but the Porsche has 80,000 in upgrades...
Just cosmetics and fansy upgrades 😊
Well driven, and a worthy winner by far ... GT3 RS ...
Steel brakes on a 150k car...ridiculous! No wonder Porsche won.
Vinny Booboo did you not know that they are both pro drivers ? 🤔
@Vinny Booboo rear wheel steering, rear mounted engine and rear wheel driven (no long driveshaft means more power efficiency to the wheels. ), and less weight. For years GTR always have steel brakes even for the nismo, and finally they change to carbon ceramics. And you really don't need to call someone else a dumb just for simple reason, behave yourself, dick
@Vinny Booboo woah, salty much? The GTR is a great car. It just isn't a track focused car
The Gtr is a very old car. The new gtr would demolish the Porsche
Wait, my GTR is way more comfortable than they are saying... It's not a Nismo tho....
But you should've told this: Only 5 people in the world are allowed to make a GTR engine.... My car's engine was made by: Tsunemi Ooyama!!
He also made the engine in my 2018 Premium. The comfort mode does a great job on mine. But comfort the mode in the Nismo which has different suspension may not be able to be as comfortable on the street? I wouldn't buy a Nismo unless I was primarily tracking it, IMO.
Wouldnt want some chinese dude making my engine

GTR i simply... respect you
Clearly a bias towards the GT3. As a full blown race car there is no way it is a better street car and daily driver than the GTR. But it was necessary to give that point to the GT3 for it to win the overall battle.
Oh brother, sounds like someone has some very hurt feelings.
Are we sure the Porsche driver is a former racer? Those launches suggest otherwise
No, he just picked him up from McDonnalds.
F1
Who was calling the starts?
I'm picking those were jumped starts from the GTR
have you tried launching a 500hp rwd car in the wet?
sorry, what did you expect from him to do again?
It wasn't the 4 wheel drive dude... you were sleeping at the line!
Agreed!!
and he was shifting by himself ?!! why tf would he do that in a car with launch control and PDK.
To make a proper comparison, the same driver should be used for the test laps. And that was hardly a drag race
Im not saying I'd buy the GTR over the Gt3 but I think its pretty impressive that the car is still being compared to high caliber today considering its age.
Im sick of hearing the playstation joke with the skyline now. it wasnt even playstation it was gran turismo and they only designed the digital gauges
I think this not about cars. At track test, it's not fair. Nissan driven by normal journalist and the Porsche driven by a F1 driver. Then how could GT-R will win the track test?
Jason dissed the GTR insinuating the it does not have any “pedigree” @1:15
What was Nissan thinking with the pricing?? 99 out of 100 would chose the Porsche for that price I think, myself included.
Porsche is slower
Wrong mate. Nissan all day
@@brianmatzen9617 On the track the Porsch wins for sure

Tbh im a gtr guy im not a fan of the nismo i would chose the Porsche or with that money buy a Litchfield tuned gtr
Blimey that Porsche driver was asleep at the line in the dragrace, but really threw it round that track!
That Porsche would be in my garage anyday, it sounds incredible!
well, can you really buy a GT3RS at list price? I don't think so. But you can find a NISMO for around $215,000, about $60000 or more less than the GT3 RS.
Sorry but one of the worst video's ive ever seen.
Rainy weather, comparing 4wd to a rwd.
A tiny track where weight-grip wins over actually engineered downforce grip.
Time a lap with a phone in the car.
Sorry but this video's trash.
I'd take the GT3RS ANY DAY over the GTR.
Its way more exciting, way better sounding engine, more focused, looks better and more agressive, just all around more fun.
Plus, on a proper track, that GT3RS smacks the GTR
It's always raining in UK even in summer, it's always raining, you have to waiting a lot to found a day sunny.🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
@@TBR972 I live in the Netherlands, weve got the exact same weather. Its not raining e-ve-ry day
Mike f OK it's good to hear there is good sunny days sometimes. For me Both car are amazing, but my choice go to the GT3RS 👌🏽
You had a choice and you made your choice. Yep GT3 all day even with just 2 seats lol
GTR is cheaper, even the nismo version, and is usable as a daily. + It's extremely easy to get ridiculous horsepower with a GTR with modding. The nismo, while still being cheaper, has faster acceleration and is really close on a lot of tracks to the GT3 RS. I love the GT3 RS, but I'd go with the GTR any day. GT3 RS for the track, but for everyday situations the GTR is just better.
The nismo would be the winner with carbon brakes. FACT!!
Not fair comparison
No carbon ceramics
Not the same driver
Open Nurburgring times then. See for yourself
@@dragivasilev3636 I do not care about nurburgring times this is information a review should provide and this one doesn't
GTR all day long, is my choice, yet the Porsha is impressive 🎉🎉
I'll still take the GTR... I feel the GTR won that 2 outta 3. Maybe even 3 outta 3 if the other guy drove the gtr
I'd still take a basic GTR, send it to Cobb Tuning, and have 95% of the performance at 65-70% of the cost.
Think about the massive depreciation modding the engine
You need a lot of money to replicate a nismo bud
I have driven 911 turbos and gt3s and they are amazing indeed, but nothing compared with the brutal acceleration of the R35. In a race it's just faster (stock factory specs)
Faster than a 911 Turbo S? No it certainly is not.
I have a GT3 and it destroys my old GT-R. My old Cayman GT4 was faster on a ton of tracks. The problem with the GT-R is the brakes. Anything I made up on the straights, the GT4 would gain back in the braking zones.
Say " isn´t it " one more god damn time, I dare you!
This video was all ready made in 18/oct/2018
The GT-R has no Skyline heritage to draw on. It can draw on the term GT-R all it likes, but the Skyline endures as a family of luxury rwd coupes - as Skylines always were and remain.
GT3 of you want a complete package, GTR of you want to customize it and make it unique
Nissan do tell you about launch control, it’s in the manual. It’s just called R Mode Start instead of launch control.
Put it against the 2020 nismo. They already solved all th3 issues you bring up.
Track test better representation of a performance car than any drag race ever will.
Gtr and gt3 are both unbelievable cars with the best engineering!!!
I'm fully aware of how legendary the GT3 RS is, I mean aside from E92 M3's and Mk3 Meganes, I dare say it's one of the most regularly seen cars at Nurburgring. I think to take the R34 GTR Nismo and compare it, for one of the guys to comment 'This is a race car' as he's doing the fast lap in the Porsche, it's quite an achievement for the GTR to be within striking distance, 1/4 mile - faster, every day ownership, I think they were wrong here as in my opinion 2 extra seats, a whole useable boot, actual door handles not straps, they listed the interior finish as a bonus in the Porsche but if I ever agreed to spend £800 on painted air vent surrounds... come on guys. I'm guessing this episode was aired in 2020, the R35 has reached the end of its life now, the Nismo is a final tribute and I'd take that all day long over the GT3 RS, as nice as it is.
very good review. Years ago I drove a Mits Evo 10 with active diffs (Yaw control). If you provoked the car by turning it in too fast and too sharp you felt the system do its thing. The Nissan does the same. It makes you feel you are more the passenger than the driver. That is why I prefer the Porsche...the systems stay on the background more
same reason i went with a Focus RS instead of Subaru STi
Are you talking about real life experience or a story of a friend from a friend?
How long will it take for Nissan to Release R36 with a V8 twin Turbo
Never
I'ma JDM fanboy, but I'd definitely take the Porsche. There's probably only like 2 or 3 cars in production right now that I'd take over a GT3 RS. That NA 4.0 liter flat 6 revving to 9,000 RPM is pretty hard to say no to.
that is unfair you forget to shift gear then u count the win to porsche that is unfair to nissan
Jason’s Yvan Muller impression at 4:11 was perfect, he even got the whinging on point
When the R35 was released, the Porsche was 997. Nissan seems to produce this fossil car until 2022.
This fossil still stands up to its name and standard as a supercar killer
This 'fossil' car can and will keep up with most hypercars and supercars with a simple ecu tune.
'Till this day
@@hashim4535 however it no longer cost under 100k. It cost as much as those super-hyper cars. So the point of GT-R as much as i love it is gone.
@@blackwidow7804 in the UK it costs around 3k to take it to stage 4.25 (650bhp), to take it to around 1000hp its around 10k I presume. Doing that to a 30k 2011 GTR, and you get yourself a 1000hp rocket ship for under 45-50k that'll smash anything on the road.
@@naskilowki Not anymore, really. Even an M-powered four door BMW can beat the GT-R.
It wasn't fair of the lap time comparison, because it should be the same driver driving in two different cars.
I'd take the GT3RS any day.
It's not the GTR being a loser, It's the older guy sucking at driving one. :D
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Plato
GTR still, everyday. Easier to work on instead of just looking at the fans lol.
After driving the Porsche you get home and have some wine and caviar with a white scarf around your neck. Now the Nismo, when you get home you have a 500 gram steak a beer and finish the tattoo on your neck after your gym session.
'My bum's already hurting ' can't wait to see that clip used in some sort of Chris Morris Brass Eye satire.
I knew what will be the winner when they said gt3 is more practical daily drive than gtr
I haven't seen Jason Plato in ages until the recommended brought him up. He's looking properly old now.
11:41 makes a good noise. like Big Smoke saying OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Give the GTR carbon discs and it could be a different outcome.
In the track it depends on the driver quite obvious that brown guy is a better driver than the old white guy. But in the streets where it matters it's about torque and launch power, nobody cares about tight curves and smooth handling when you trying to smoke someone in a quarter mile, Godzilla still the King of the streets, truth.
"German engineering vs playstation"
Most boomer thing ever said.
I'd take the GT3 in that color too 👌
GTR.
The Porsche engine sounds amazing.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the better car. The Nismo is simply too expensive but the standard GT-R is proper value for money.
The big difference being that there is a new GT3RS coming next year whereas there is nothing new from the GTR. This gap is about to become even larger.
bigkckrva
Keep dreaming!
bigkckrva
That’s nothing but speculation. If you knew anything about Nissan you would know that they are on the brink of bankruptcy.
bigkckrva
According to whom? I’ve been on the industry for 17 years. Nissan is not going to spend money on a tiny niche market.
Do you have any background in any related field?
What on earth does an embassy employee know about a private foreign auto company?
www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-07-25/nissan-s-pain-worsens-as-99-profit-drop-forces-deeper-job-cuts
Gt3rs no brainer. No disrespect to the gtr but there leagues apart
Ultimate performance version of the worlds most celebrated and enduring sports car, nicest thing to ever said about a beetle jason haha
I think these conclusions are all valid, but Fifth Gear really does conduct some of the most unscientific testing out of any channel. 🤨
I'd still pick the GTR. I can only have one car and honestly I'd prefer it as my only car.
I've dreamed of it for so long.
I'm settled with a tuned BMW for now, but eventually the GTR is coming
he jumped the line twice with the nismo lol
Yeah I go for the GT3 RS as well. Nissan reckons that weight is good for weight distribution and helping putting power down so being heavy great. Furthermore the GT3 have significant of exotic material so it's a clear win to me. The only thing I like about the GTR is the engine. Sure 911 GT2 and Turbo S also have turbocharged engines but both of these turbocharged Porsches have lost their character.
For that I'm for the GT3.
first, the track test is flawed by definition. the same driver should drive both cars. then, their appreciation of the different aspects of both cars is pretty on point.the nismo and its price tag doesn't make sens considering the resale value which is awfull .then, the RS3 has a much much better esale value, and his performances are a notch better than the nismo on the track.both are harsh street rides.the palm goes to the porsche no doubts.
This is a mis-match GTR is twin Turbo while GT3 RS is only N.A. (non turbo)
I am actually surprised that Karun is not in the gtr...
Almost equal power/weight ratio. Gt-r being heavier means it accelerates better, better top speed and the awd also helps pulling off. Then on a racetrack the gt3 is a bit faster by 1-2 s so the gtr is remarkably fast considering it’s so heavy.
Why not use the current NISMO?
Should’ve got a gt2rs
Their point about resale is what sold me on the Porsche.
I love BOTH cars - incredible machines! But IF I were buying BRAND NEW, the Porsche is the winner.
However in the real world, like other people have mentioned here, I'd buy a good condition used Nissan,
do all the performance upgrades I wanted & call it a day.
I love Porsche's - but I probably would only buy the Targa version if I had to buy one new.
Other than that, I'd love to have an 1988-1989 or a 1992 TARGA 9/11 Carerra.
My friend had one back in 1993 - in "Oyster-Shell Blue" w/black leather.
Beautiful and Fun!
Two problems with this comparison 1) its not the latest GTR Nismo which also has carbon ceramic brakes and revised parts and improvements 2) The track conditions are not ideal, pick another day on a dry track.
I wouldn't say a track focused gtr having back seats is a bonus. For that price I'd expect it to a featherweight.
well, Porsche guy always seems to launch tad bit late than GTR on drag race..
Thats the GTR's better launch control, the "Porsche guy" is an ex F1 driver so the Porsche was always gonna have the advantage
@@EKspeed I don't know why people seem to think having Jason is a disadvantage, he has the most wins in BTCC history and is always faster in the other 5th gear tests. Did you ever see Karun race in F1 because it wasn't pretty?
I agree, you could see the Porsche's rear end squat way after the GTR had moved
The gtr should fight against a 911 turbo s🤦♂️
Even though the Turbo S isn't track focused,it beats up the NISMO on most tracks
Why would an awd lose to rwd monster trackcar in daily category..
They used the wrong 911 imho....... should have brought a 992 Turbo s (on paper a much better like for like)
@@K2edg Not really, the Nismo is track focussed, so is the GT3RS, but the Turbo S is not.
@Brulaap Gaapmeester Regarding the GTR your just putting lipstick on a pig!! They say it's "Track focused" but in reality the Turbo s is a much closer match and would probably win ........
how do you miss a gear in an auto..
He was in manual mode using the paddles but thought he was just in normal automatic mode. So he thought it was gunna change gear for him but it just ended up bouncing off the limiter instead.
I still think it's stupid though he's a professional driver and should have the car set up ready without thinking. I remember watching an old Best Motoring clip from 2007 when the GTR was first launched in Japan. He's the start line on the track and as the lights go green the car won't go over like 20mph and they all think they have broken the engine. In reality it was almost completely empty of fuel 😂
very easy to miss it on a GTR :D
Couldn’t agree more the Nissan is well out of its depth,it’s cheap inside, doesn’t looks special etc etc.Listen to the Porsche the engine is special it sounds awesome and it’s 100% a drivers car...way more special.
991 is less exclussive than a GTR
Jaeïro eh it’s basically a Gtr with a few average bits on.its not exclusive it’s a very expensive cheaply put together wanabe super car
I feel like the gtr got a head start in the drag race
it did twice
It has awd
I am just putting up a new comment as the last comment telling the winner in the first line has spoiled the plot. Now what else is wrong in my life.
Seeing the thumbnail I literally said "Ooh yeah!"
Imagine how much more the Porsche would have won by if the track had been properly dry.
Sure a formula 1 driver vs an old man had nothing to do with the results
If the VW beetle isn't ugly enough they painted it green too.
There is no compromise
Porsche!
no, there is no substitute
They should've both drive both cars
If you compare the track version of the Nismo GTR with rear seat delete, interior bracing and ceramic brakes the advantage would definitely shift to the GTR. Let's face it, how many versions of the 911 have there been since the GTR first arrived in 2008? 3? 4? Whereas the GTR is essentially the same since then. There are GTRs out there pushing well over 1000 hp! The next completely redesigned GTR will be a step up.
Porsche surely had the better driver
Don’t get me wrong guys, but you really should check market price of 20years old Porsche and 20 years old Nissan GTR R34...
Personally, i think they should have pitched the GTR against the 991 turbo for a more like for like comparison. 2+2 and 4WD
Always testing cars in the rain is stupid...
