Me too. 250 to 300 is my upper limit. However, once or twice, I've gone to $400 if it's limited edition, and or extra unique in a way that looks like nothing else in my collection.
Exactly the same. The only thing I would ever spend more than that would only be for a Custom. Anything else is just not worth it imo, definitely not for a production knife.
Sage 5 lw is such a great no nonsense knife. Washers, pivot bushing, compression, good shape and steel. Not the coolest knife by any means but just a really great usable knife
Blade HQ has been selling their exclusive demko ad20.5 for like $130 for a couple months now. Large pivot 20cv slicer blade in grey g10 or ultem. Freaking amazing price! I bought it just for the blade. Swapped it into the texture ti scales of my 3v model. Now i have a fully stainless ti and 20cv.
Hogue is without a doubt the best USA made production knives. Their qc, heat treat, action, materials and absolutely value smoke every one else. My first one was the Deka magnacut, it was between that and BM Bugout, and after handling both the Hogue was not only more than $40 less, it had a much better grind and edge, better axis lock, better frn scales, and since then I’ve added quite a few Hogues. I can’t wait to get the titanium handled Myto.
Yep, I had a Hogue Exemplar which I loved...except that the thumbstud on it was rather unpolished (sharp). I eventually traded it for a Hogue/Sig Sauer Micro-Flip X1, which is quite nice as well.
Easily my favorite edc. Definitely my most carried. Can’t recommend it enough. Have 2 para 3s that I love and cost more but always seem to end up with the sage in my pocket.
I got to tell ya, the more I take out my Bel Air, the more I love it. I think that knife could’ve easily replaced a couple of those on the list, especially considering the materials, the action and of course, the price. Great video!
I just got the Katsu Titanium Frame lock with a layered ZDP-189 mirror polished convex blade, for under $250 with their coupon it’s a working man’s Rockstead. It’s actually more beautiful and so well done I’m shocked, it’s truly amazing.
Def agree with you, the RGT skinny micarta scales for the Para 3 are the business. They take a knife that is already awesome and make it even better. Absolutely one of the best knives from Spyderco (Manix 2 and PM2 also in that category). Thanks for another great video
MC, thanks again for another excellent review/"Best EDC" list! Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Benchmade Micro Freek Multicolored G10...though I realize that it is priced just above your $250 limit here. Thanks!
Literally just got done watching like 10 videos while working overnight. Now I get to watch this one. You really got me torn between the Stitch and MSI.
Thank you for doing these best of videos for a good spread of price ranges. I’ve finally reached the point where anything under $100ish really has to be a fantastic budget knife for me to justify spending money on it, so I’ve really been looking into more “investment” knives in the $200+ area. This list is great, the militaw has been calling my name for a minute now 🤔 just gotta decide if I like that or the Varatas better
$250 is my absolute top top limit except if it's a Hinderer, Vero, Null, Jack Wolf, Divo, Spyderco, Quiet Carry, Koenig, Chris Reeve, Bark River, Dawson, or Kunwu. Got have limits!
I’ve got the Manix 2 XL Crucarta on the way. Can’t wait. I also would like to recommend the Knifecenter Exclusive Vision FG with s35vn and carbon fiber. I think it’s just over 150.
Flytanium actually has full titanium frame options for the arcade now for like $80-90. I have the same one you showed with the od inserts in now and it’s great. But the ti frame and inserts are coming soon to give it a bit more solidity.
I tricked mine out in the ti scales months ago. All black dlc, purple ano backspacer, clip, and thumbstuds with the retro fat carbon scales. I succumbed to their genius marketing and bought every upgraded part they offer. No regrets.
@@jasonbruchmiller4580they do a black DLC? I thought the ones on bladehq were pvd. And does it already come with a backspacer or is the titanium one just an upgrade from aluminum?

It's like WE forgot to jack up the price. SHHH!
Is the action as good as the newer WE’s? Ray’s designs always call to me, but with so many knives on the list rn, I’m torn about getting it If it’s a banger then I’ll have to get it
Ok, ive got quite a few on this list and heartily agree with your recommendations (as usual). However, the Sage 5 .... interesting. Been eyeing it for some time. This pushed me over the edge. Got Parsons Bladeworks fluted ripple Ti scales coming too.
Doug Ritter designed the BM Griptilian. When he stopped partnering with BM, he retained the rights to his design and went to Hogue. Same designer, very close to identical design, different manufacturer, different fit and finish and execution. Many people consider them practically the same knives, except most who’ve tried the Hogue can agree it’s a better knife overall for a better price than the BM Griptilian.
I can't buy another Spyderco. I've had four. Two pm2s and two Para 3s. First was a sprint run pm2 with blurple scales. Absolutely loved everything about it, except the blade chipped bad. Got a standard because the internet said that steel (s90 maybe) was chippy and it was the same. So i thought I'd try a para3 in m390. Chipped. Bought a second standard p3 as a gift for my niece and it was the same with hers. So disappointing because as I said, I love everything about both those knives.
Decent lineup, I'm definitely gonna pull the trigger on the manix soon, it will be my first spyderco. Also looking at the plastic msi too, will probably do just like you said and put some aftermarket scales on it if I like it enough
The Manix is an incredible knife. I think I have 7 of them, all in different configurations, including 1 XL in Cruwear that's massive, and has probably the sharpest factory edge I've ever seen.
Manix is a great choice. I wasnt sure if Id like it when I bought my first, (I preferred the Sage (2 iirc) at the time,) but now I couldnt imagine *not* having a Manix. Or 2. Or 5 😅
Love to see the sage 5 getting the love it deserves. For so long it’s been an unsung gem, but now that there’s all the hullabaloo about the Rex 121 version coming out, it’s been dragged out from the dustbin of history and placed on its rightful throne. While I generally do prefer a larger knife, this sage 5 is just so excellent in every way, truly a perfect edc. Every day I wake up and check my email to see if my preorder has finally shipped. I can’t wait to sexy it up with some proper fluted titanium scales from parsons bladeworks that my black dlc m4 sage has been wearing and order it a nice lynch clip that’ll pop.
It scares me that I have all of these knives except for the Kizer Militaw (I have like 10 others) and the Cold Steel - No SR-1 here but I have Code 4, and my late brother’s Spartan (and a bunch of fixed blades from them.)
Nope. Base price is $220. Just went and looked. You're probably looking at the titanium version. I clarified in the video the BASE price is always what I'm referring to
@@metal_complex well look on the bright side at least it was a cool knife. Just imagine how much worse it could be if you had to tell people you cut yourself on an auto buck 110 hahahahaha
So few of these have reversible or left-handed variants available. Granted some of these have custom scales that remove that feature, only 3 of them you showed in their current configuration are ambidextrous carry. I feel like as you go up in budget, this feature is thrown out the window in favor of making the show-side of the handle pretty. Buy what you like. Enjoy it. The journey is the part that matters. The knife world is a ladder and everyone is on a different step. Worry about your current step. Easiest way to look at it
Eyed that PM60 Kunwu for a while. Just know I won't be able to carry a knife with "COMPACT CHAD" printed in large letters on the blade. What a fail for an otherwise awesome company.
I want a knife with a premium blade, innards, fit, and finish. I do not need premium material scales. Make it as cheap as humanely possible using those guidelines. Frn, G10, micarta. What ever. Also don’t care about weight.
Pointless though. These non "man" sized knives are more than enough for daily tasks. If you want something humorously XL, I have lots of cold steel, midgards messer, and maxace reviews..
The Shark Lock is amazing, but the knives it has been put on so far are just not very practical or appealing to me, either. I'm hoping that it gets added to more practical knives over time. Fingers crossed.
Here of recent the past 2 - 3 releases from Ritter hogue have been pooin the bed.... Multiple instances of HRC falling well below quoted values on their magnacut, poor machining and blade finish, pivots completely out of whack....
Oh now the DLC from Kunwu IS “polished or shiny”? Lol, just giving you crap, i don’t really care….i can’t even remember what the knife was the other day that was $520(?) with polished DLC, lol
No knife is worth more than $200. Zero reason for spending that kind of money, unless you make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. That said, the Spyderco Manix 2 is on my list of knives to buy as my first Spyderco.
@@teacherhelp1374 benchmade’s quality compared to pretty much everyone else on this list, it’s just not there They make decent knives Just not great value It’s like the Leek, sure it’s a great knife for a lot of people, and at 80$, it’s within the price range for a lot of people But if you have owned a Vision, an Altus, a Prado or a Velona They are just so much better knives for the price Yeah you can still recommend the leek if someone asks, but why would it be the top of the list when there is so many better options? Buy what you like. Enjoy it. The journey is the part that matters. The knife world is a ladder and everyone is on a different step. Worry about your current step. Easiest way to look at it
I am so upset and offended!! 🤬 Oh wait, no, I'm not. Fantastic list MC 🙂
Kunwu rules !
Spyderco does nothing for me, Im the black sheep
I’m with you all the way lol
Eyed that PM60 Kunwu for a while. Just know I won't be able to carry a knife with "COMPACT CHAD" printed in large letters on the blade. What a fail for an otherwise awesome company.
I want a knife with a premium blade, innards, fit, and finish. I do not need premium material scales. Make it as cheap as humanely possible using those guidelines. Frn, G10, micarta. What ever.
Also don’t care about weight.
Spiderco manix 2 in Rex 45 from gpk knives
@@TheRealNancyPelosi1865 thanks. Not really a fan of Spyderco but I HAVE to have at least one on my collection. And that one looks like it’s the one.
Thank goodness about the Militaw I could never pay more than $s45vn for a knife 😂😂
That hogue with green scales would be my jam 😊
Any man sized knives? What’s with all the women/children sizes?
Tons. Not sure how many videos I've done. Here's one - ua-cam.com/video/gss5gFVQG2w/v-deo.html
Pointless though. These non "man" sized knives are more than enough for daily tasks. If you want something humorously XL, I have lots of cold steel, midgards messer, and maxace reviews..
No argument for any of the choices MC!
NGL, I’m not a fan of the Demko stuff. I know the lock is great and all but I’m just not feeling it.
Ran over a pelican🤣🤣🤣fuuuhhh…
Nice.. but too expensive😳
Ayo
No knife is worth more than $200. Zero reason for spending that kind of money, unless you make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. That said, the Spyderco Manix 2 is on my list of knives to buy as my first Spyderco.
I said the same exact thing roughly 15 years ago. Most of the people who sub did as well. Totally normal perspective. Enjoy the journey
Too much bias. Four Spyderco and no Benchmade. Sad.
I have no particular bias for any company. I choose what's actually good. Not what I think people want to see based on diversity and popularity.
@@metal_complex do you think Benchmade does not make any good knives in this price range?
@teacherhelp1374 not worthy of a top 20, no. I have plenty of videos on benchmade knives. I'm more than familiar with their products
@@metal_complex I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
@@teacherhelp1374 benchmade’s quality compared to pretty much everyone else on this list, it’s just not there
They make decent knives
Just not great value
It’s like the Leek, sure it’s a great knife for a lot of people, and at 80$, it’s within the price range for a lot of people
But if you have owned a Vision, an Altus, a Prado or a Velona
They are just so much better knives for the price
Yeah you can still recommend the leek if someone asks, but why would it be the top of the list when there is so many better options?
I’ve only handled 2 benchmades, not my own, but compared to my Bel-air and iridium
The bug-out is disappointing to say the least
