- This trick will work an a 1999-2007 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra Extended Cab. This folding back seat trick is awesome if you are into car audio. It makes it easy to install car audio amplifiers. If you do this you don't have to remove your rear seat to access your amplifiers. TOOLS NEEDED BELOW:
Parts Needed For This Hack:
►Dewalt 4-1/2" Angle Grinder: amzn.to/2MwuGW2
►Full Face Shield (Safety First): amzn.to/2QvBAxO
►Safety Glasses (Safety First): amzn.to/2xbWEkM
►Cut Off Discs (50 Pack): amzn.to/2QtJEix
►Sanding Flap Discs 80 Grit (10 Pack): amzn.to/2MqP22R
►Fiberglass Welding Blanket (Optional To Protect Fabric): amzn.to/2xdzevt
----------------------------------------------------------------
**REMOVE YOUR REAR SEAT WHEN YOU DO THE CUTTING THAT WAY NOTHING IN YOUR TRUCK GETS DAMAGED!!!**
**PROTECT THE FABRIC SO THAT IT DOESN'T BURN!!!**
I did this because I was tired of having to remove my rear seat in my 2006 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab. Every time I needed to set my amp gains, adjust my crossovers, or unplug wires I would have to remove my back seat because they do not fold from the factory. - Авто та транспорт

What you mean like making the back seat completely unsafe for 4 passengers. Never mind making it a death trap if you put children in the car seat in that vehicle. Sorry hiding hiding an amp behind the back seat in the truck on the back wall does it equal the safety or their lack thereof of features he's taking off of the seat don't make sense

I've had amps back there on my 02 Sierra for years but I did it the proper way, unbolt the seat install everything put back together and never removed since. When a thief steals your truck they'll thank you for making it easier for them.
Exactly. When cutting anything is involved there's nothing awesome about it. This is trash. Can't believe he's explaining it like it's a good idea
Each to their own. Take it or leave it.
I eenr when that bodybstyle first came out back in '99.
I though about trading in my '94 (which I just finally sold in Feb '22 for $8500 with 102k mis).
I was pumped when the salesman showed me how you could lower the seat back OR flip the bottom UP depending on what you're hauling back there.
I was kinda shocked that apparently in 03 or something, they deleted that feature !!
I suppose so they could add it back later and claim its NEW.
Just like Nissan did with independent suspension on the '03 Maxima...DELETED .
Then a few years later they added it back to much ado.
I hate car manufacturers. They're pure ilk.

Cool hack , thanks!
Crew cab 2007 classic has split that fold. The small side I put my boogie bag. The other side amp and circuitry to inverter in bed(under canopy. ) also another area to hide my pew pew that I don’t actually have
It works on a 2002 also. Just did it! Thanks for the ider

@@josephvance8900 it’s going to be hard at first but it works for me brother.
Two things. Safety is crucial, and amps need air flow soo thanks for showing everyone who doesn't know these things how to overheat an amp and ruin their truck.
GTFO where else are you going to mount them? You don't even own a Silverado.
He's 100% right! I've owned 3 Silverados I currently own an 05, and I've had about 20 systems that would make you sick. Amps get very hot like computers. Go to school moron.
Every one is right. Every professional car audio installer will tell you that.
If you own an 05 Silverado then you know how much space is back there with the seat folded down. Sounds like you're the moron. School lol
Aire flow through there if isn’t block the entire space underneath of your seat 🌬
Did this and worked so well thank you
You're welcome!
I have a 2003 chevrolet silverado extend cab. Did the same thing in 2005 since I did a cut through to mount a blow through port for a 4-15s subwoofers box. Bring beck memories when I'd first did the same 😂😂😂😂
Haha you did a blow through. They say my mod is unsafe. They don't get it.
The modification is good...I agree they'll never get it because they ain't experiencing it properly. I did a blow through 16 years ago same method you did in your truck but I did it for a reason. Didn't had kids in those days and now I do. Until today I only use the truck as for shows and promoting my truck for my shop. Now I don't have 4-15 when I upgraded to 8-15s
Damn, that looks nice af,
He modified this truck into a very unsafe vehicle for all backseat passenger FOR THE LIFE OF THE TRUCK now just while he has it.
That will keep your amps running nice and cool!
YES! You get it!

Yea "im not into single mons" haha good one :)
Hifonics amps have been great to me. Have had at least 6 class d amps ranging from 1600 watts to 6.5k watts.
They are better than the other cheap brands, but worse than the good amps. Basically, entry level cheap power, but not BOSS or Xplod cheap.

I did the same in my 05 Ram so I could expose the blowthrough port for demos but I just raised the seat with spacers. Same results without cutting any brackets. These people bitching about safety don't know what they are talking about.
Yeah, I swear they are not even watching the whole video. Just hatin' big time.

Hello, are you able to show how the 0 gauge wire came inside? Did you run it under the trunk and drill holes.
its the same for a couple years before 03, i have a 00 and its the same setup but without the carseat latches thankfully
Sick! Thanks for the info. You definitely blew my mind. Do the amps get too hot back there though?
No, they don't get hot it makes a triangle of air with the seats in the sitting position. Don't cut the baby seat things though. People weren't to happy about that lol.
That's well needed !!!! Thank you
I just unbolted the useless weight and donated them to a landfill. Built two custom oversized wedge style boxes to closely match original box that my MTX TP 12s came out of. Have all kinds of H2O around Kicker 750.1 mounted to back wall upside down so as to keep from criss crossing power and rca. Pretty cool. Also a great place to hide a couple extra firearms in foam inserts.
That's exactly why I looked this up :P I'd like to keep em there as a "just in case" thing. Also so in the event my truck ever did get stolen or broken into, they would be hard to find.
Not to mention if you ever get pulled over and they search the vehicle!
@@jeremyvillegas572 unless the popo who pulls you doesn't own a Silverado and isn't subbed 🤣
@@muhfkajones yeah exactly why this is a great way to hide them. Cops definitely ain't lifting up and pulling the seat out to see what's behind😂😂
@@jeremyvillegas572 dont believe that
i believe i would have removed the seat. then checked for clearance before mounting my amp .invested in sound deadner . there are so videos of custom boxes with 4 8 inch subs on here you should check out
Yea, I did check for clearance. I used a 1/4" piece of plywood glued to the metal. It was weak so I ripped it out and glued a 3/4" piece in.
Then it was hitting on the stupid Hifonics light up words. So I took the led board out of the amp when I rebuilt the amp.
These things are funny. Everything fits, but when you fold the seat it pivots in a way that it can hit the amps. So you have to be careful.
Yea, I have seen 4 10's. Pretty loud.
Thanks for the info. Never thought about the space behind the seats.. didn't even know you could pull them down. Would you mind telling me what mind of box you're running / size subs? I like the way your set up looks. I currently run 2 RF 10 inch P3s with the P 500-2 amp. I actually have my amp underneath the middle seat on the little hump with 1 sub on each side. I'm interested in trying out a box like yours.
I am running 2 12" Dayton RSS315HO-4 dual 4 Ohm voice coil subs in a sealed box. Each sub is wired to 2 Ohms and then they are wired to 1 Ohm at the amp.
The box is a SubThump under the seat sub box. There are a couple different depth models. I don't remember which one this is.
You just have to make sure the box you get has enough air space. You can run regular size subwoofers in these boxes.
@@MattsShop preciate that man! Thanks! 👍🏻
No problem!
Hey guys look at the tips of my fingers, look just cut the tip off. You don’t have to have safety hooks for your back seat. But it helps
how you hook your amplifier make a video of that
I’m gonna try that on my 2007 crew cab and I hope it works.
Is it a 2007 or 2007.5 NNBS?
I have a 07 Chevy Silverado 1500 I tried it and it doesn’t work
"I'm not into Single mom's!" Had me rollin, sound like a guy who doesn't like problems and sees past next month! Great work on your mods as well bro.
Haha bro you got it. I'm always thinking ahead 🤣
I need to check on a 2012, I need to raise seat 3 inchs for decent subs and mount amps on back of seat.
They make sub boxes that fit full size subs. You are pretty much limited to 2-12's sealed, 1-12 ported, 2-10's ported. There is not a lot of airspace under the seats. If you make a custom box then, the sky's the limit. Some places online make seat lifting kits out of steel.
Just make sure that when you sell the truck you either rebolt that cable or disclose to the buyer that it is disconnected. Just an CYA FYI for liability reasons.
Thank you sir for being smart!
How would that work if it has a 4x6 hole
Yeah my 04 gmc don't fold. Like that the back fold down and the bottom flips forward so I have access to that panel already as long as my back seat isn't full of junk
Well damn Matt... I own a 2008... My seats split in 2 but the backrest looks the same. I had to mount my amp under the driver's seat and I had to make a mounting plate so it wouldn't move.
How did you get enough room under your driver's seat? There's an air vent under my seat.
@@MattsShop I have an a/c vent under mine too, I made a base plate out of .025 diamond plate aluminum so it would sit level. I cut a piece of felt and lined it between the amp and the plate, then I used the rest of the diamond plate and made a kick panel behind the driver's seat so anyone sitting behind me couldn't kick the amp. The kick panel also helps recirculate cold air back to the amp, only drawback is during the winter months the vent also brings heat, so I have to adjust for that. This is the first amp I've had that doesn't get hot but every once and a while I still like to reach down and make sure it's cool, it's habit.
I have a 2004 Silverado, I like that part about kids lol , not into single moms either , I know what ya mean bro!
I have a full 4 door and the back seats have brackets to lift up towards the front and the back of the seat just folds down making it flat. I had 2 12s and I couldnt put then under the seat because of the brackets for anyone wondering
how did you get the seat to fold before you cut the tabs off? i just tried it on my truck, i lifted the bottom part of the rear seat up as far as possible but those tabs are still firmly locked on the retainer piece.
You have to remove the seat nuts and take the seat out. Here's an update video: ua-cam.com/video/qpr9aDdpO1A/v-deo.html
Thanks Bud, exactly the info I needed! You rock!
You're welcome! You rock too!
@@MattsShop I love the trolls and haters that probably never installed/owned or any of that but they all got something to say about YOUR VEHICLE it's ridiculous I love the video it's what I was thinking of doing but I'm going to put a piece of abs/or thin wood down to mount that to the metal then mount the amps to the wood so im not grounding the cases of the amplifiers them selves I just got The down4sound Jp23/Jp234 amp combo and got 2 12" Rockford Fosgate T1D412 and either going to build my own box for them or buy a Gately Audio 3.5 cubic feet box that is basically precut and pre built but it is just all the flat pieces and you put it together with all precut and predrilled holes and it's just a very clean box n possibly getting a 3rd 12 and running the amp at .67 ohms and pounding that truck I would live to sound deadening to the doors and roof and any other flat surfaces. Getting a mechman 400 amp alt and probably 2 cs power agms so I got a little extra battery reserve or possibly getting a xs power titan8 for under my hood then running my own lithium battery bank in the back probably 45 ah or 90 ah bank.
Anyways thanks for the video I wish I could find the video of your sub and what speakers you got and did you run your speaker wires from the amp to each speaker or did you run to the radio and use existing speaker wires? I've always ran new to the speakers but I may not this time around im not 100% sure if you ran new
This would work if you weren't going to put the seat backs ,back in. However air flow across the amps is crucial like this you run the risk of starting a fire!
Awesome HACK!
THANKS!
I did this to my back seat and it’s a huge convenience lol how did you mount the amps to the back wall though?
I glued a piece of 1/4" - 3/8" plywood to the back of the cab and screwed the amps into that.
When I stuck my amps and cross over to the back wall of my 1988 Silverado I just glued a piece of 3/4 ply wood to the back wall of the cab, then I used some large Stanley “L” brackets to hold it to the floor. It held great with no issues then I just screwed the two amps, crossover and fuse holder and stuff right onto the board. I even had room for two “Kicker” sub boxes with 6” subs in them.
So a little question about seats. If I wanted to put a front bench seat in a 2005 Monte Carlo what do think would work?
Anything can work with the right amount of tools, skills, and time!
Did this today and it works great don’t think it should be to much of a safety issue thought because it does clamp back down when you open the seat up.
Yea, exactly.

I know i’m late on this😂. How do I get the seat to come down in the first place or do I have to cut that piece while it is up?
There's like 5 bolts that hold the seat to the cab. Just un-bolt it from the truck and take it out.
Maybe you could show us how to remove back seat completely. Thx
Do you have a video of mounting the amps to the rear of the cab
Nahh, I did it years ago. Just glue a piece of plywood to the cab and then screw the amps to that. Don't go too thick on the wood though or the amp will hit the seat.
I'm not into single mom's, so I don't need that... I love it, cracks me up!

Exactly! Literally no one rides in my back seat. It's always collecting junk.

I had to take it apart and rebuild some of the electronics on the inside. $100 repair to a $200 amp lol.

Thanks, yea, give it a shot. Leave the cables connected so it will be 100% safe if you got people riding back there.
How did.you get it over the latch to begin with ? Been wanting access to mine also. 4/19
You have to take all the nuts off the seat to get it off.
Could you have subs mounted behind the back of the seat where your amp is?
I've seen boxes like that, but there's no space back there. You can search for boxes. It might be possible for a smaller sub to fit.

I tried to do it to my truck but it didn't work. Did you remove the whole seat to get it of the hook the first time before you made the cuts?
Yes, I took it out of the truck. Two nuts on each side, safety cable nuts, and middle belt buckle nut below the seat.
Great way to start a fire, those amps get very hot and I've seen them catch fire, stupid people hooking them up on a 200amp circuit breaker. Hope it works out for you and nothing happens. O and make sure to remove the entire back seat if you ever go to sell it.
"Stupid people" don't know the difference between AC and DC wiring. There are no circuit breakers in your car Bud. It's called a fuse and it's sized to protect the wire not the device.
So you obviously never done any heavy duty audio wiring !! Take 5 seconds and Google 200amp automotive circuit breaker before you respond. There are such things and ALOT of people install them. But not 200amp, 75 -100amp but not 200amp. I seen a 250 once
I wasn't calling you stupid, just saying it's not smart to put zero gauge wire on a 200amp circuit breaker. Because the wire will melt before the breaker snaps. And also putting the amp behind the seat ain't smart either.
Already knew about those. No one uses that crap. They use fuses for a reason. If you are blowing fuses to the point that you need to buy some kind of cheap Chinese DC circuit breaker your set up is wired wrong anyway. That or you don't know how to do math!
Everything is safe, cool, wired, and installed in a manner that it will not fail due to the issues that you are talking about. I have an Engineering background trust me. It's good bro.
It doesn't have to be wired wrong to blow fuses, if you have 2 or 3 5000watt amps running off of a single 100amp fuse it is going to blow, alot of people uses circuit breakers and good ones made in USA because it's cheaper than replacing the fuse every time it blows. Stupid Is just how they wire it, a single double zero line back to three amps, instead of a few lines or running a few batteries in the back.
so it does come off the hooks but does not go back in place and does not fold all the way down ....what can i do
