  • This trick will work an a 1999-2007 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra Extended Cab. This folding back seat trick is awesome to get access behind your rear seat. You don't have to remove your back seat to access the hidden rear seat storage. It's an update to a previous video. TOOLS NEEDED BELOW:
➤ Previous Video: Own A Silverado? WATCH THIS Awesome Rear Seat HACK!: • Own A Silverado? WATCH...
    Tools Needed For This Hack:
    ►Dewalt 4-1/2" Angle Grinder: amzn.to/2MwuGW2

    ►Safety Glasses (Safety First): amzn.to/2xbWEkM

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
**REMOVE YOUR REAR SEAT WHEN YOU DO THE CUTTING THAT WAY NOTHING IN YOUR TRUCK GETS DAMAGED!!!**
**PROTECT THE FABRIC SO THAT IT DOESN'T BURN!!!**
I did this because I was tired of having to remove my rear seat in my 2006 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab. Every time I needed to set my car audio amplifier gains, adjust my crossovers, or unplug wires I would have to remove my back seat because they do not fold from the factory. This way you can make your rear seat in your Chevy Silverado fold down and have access to the hidden rear seat storage.

Basically you had trolls, and idiots that could not grasp the fact that the bottom seat lifts the back portion when you raise it so the hooks go over the rings.. the hooks drop down when you lower the bottom portion into the seated position... its something chevy should have done from the start.

Matt, you are a 100% correct, your mod in no way changes safety of the rear seat, just a lot of blowhards want to make negative comments, great idea, I did it to my truck. The only way back seat folds forward is if you release the bench portion. Thanks again.

This mod also works on 14-19 silverado double cab. I just did it, took about an hour. I cut the bracket 0.80" from the bottom of the top hole. I found that to be best after some experimenting. If i had to do this again i could probably get it done in 45 minutes including cleanup. Not much to look at back there but I'm glad i can access it now.

Thank you Matt! Screw all these cry babies. I have an 08 extended cab & I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to put a simple audio system in it that is basically hidden. Both your seat mod & amp mounting ideas are exactly what I was looking for. From what I gather even though the 08 is different (no pull cord to lift the bottom & mounting brackets are slightly different) the basic seat is still the same. Except one major difference but I don’t think it will affect this mod. The seat is 60/40. In order to remove the seat, the passenger side (small side) is the key & has to come out first. The larger side has no actual mount to the floor there. It bolts to the bracket on the side to the smaller seat. I hope this helps others. Oh & btw, I’m 52 years old. My youngest kid is 24. There are no small kids riding with me lol.

I like the video update as it helped me understand better. Seems like you made it due to to many Karens' commenting on your other video though. It's UA-cam not a professional how to video for crying out loud. Very creative BTW. I am confused though and I don't understand how this works without the amps overheating? I'm new to car audio so any way you can explain this to me would be helpful. It isn't the vehicle I have though I do plan on some modifications to keep as much of my cargo space as possible so I want to learn any space saving hacks/tips that I can!

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  3 роки тому +2

Thanks, the Karens are the reason why I made this video. Basically, some people thought the amp was sandwiched between the seat fabric and thought it would overheat. There is A LOT of room behind this seat. Just make sure the amp isn't sandwiched with fabric around it to the point that it will overheat.

  • @bishoptm

This does not jeopardize safety of truck. I did mine on a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab. What I would measure the brackets of the seat that connect to the back face of rear cab to know where to cut them. Just make a dot where they need to clear bracket while the seat is still attached. While the seat is out of the truck remove the bolt holding the metal strap at rear of seat too. Install seat done.

@@MattsShop What I see, is one could buy maybe a foot or so, of Stranded cable cut two 6" sections, the same sized 3/8" and just loop it around and clamp it! They sell wire clamps and even ONE would work to secure each of them properly! Walla! Instant Extention to that cable! ...so easy, even a Cave Man could do it! LOL Thank You for posting this up, as well! NOW, I saw a Vid a while ago, that showed how one could actually Padlock that Seat in the Down Position for Security? Can't seem to find it now....any suggestions there? You might want to do that, as that is a Lot of Money, wrapped up behind that seat!

Congrats, your telling people to do the equivalent of wrapping your ampliers in a bunch of towls and sheets.
People, dont do this. This is a good way to either kill your amplifier, or even worse, cause your car to catch fire. Its just not worth the risk.
