The DMHA was great this year. Hope in the future we get a “best foreign film” and just maybe a category for horror media that aren’t movies (shows,books,UA-cam films, etc)
While watching this year, I definitely felt the need for horror media because consider how Mike Flanagan has been releasing masterpiece after masterpiece with his series.
Also I know these awards are generally for movies specifically, but especially during the strike, Dead Meat covers it all! So so should it's award show! 😂
I absolutely love the awards you put on. No one is disrespected or snubbed, you shine spotlights on the crews, directors and all the unsung heroes of film production. It's very kind and refreshing.
@@zachcameron1117 If you mean they were snubbed at the Dead Meat Awards, I'll guess they weren't there because of time limitations and not ignored in a disrespectful way.
Zoran just petting Molly while Chelsea explains stuff is so funny to me idk why. Zoran just giving off "I'm just happy to be here, guys" vibes and I love it
I’m happy that the Dead meat awards is such a thing because horror movies are so unrecognized from the awards season. Also Chelsea & James you always kill it hosting the awards show. I enjoyed the dead meat awards ever since the beginning and I can’t no wait to see it evolved.
You know why I like these awards the most? Because in every category I can see exactly why the nominees are there (especially with practical and digital effects), to the point where I know I’ll be happy for the winner no matter who it might be and satisfied no matter what the outcome is. That, and I always end up learning a lot more about the actual production and the artists working on various films than I ever do from mainstream awards. Plus there are some real accomplishments in these movies that are awesome to see honored this way. Btw, congrats to Zoran! Enjoy your brand new human!
I'm still undecided if I want to watch that movie or not because I didn't like Hereditary at all I was so bored watching it, but then Midsommar made me laugh and was fun so I'm not sure if Beau is one I'd like or not the description didn't peak my interest
Your passion and dedication to horror as a genre is so inspiring and special. The Dead Meat Horror Awards are testament to your team's dedication to honoring these films and the people who make them possible. This channel is the reason I fell in love with the genre, and it's so exciting to watch the channel grow and collaborate with creators in these awards show.
Me too! The behind the scenes stuff James gets into in the Kill Counts is my favorite part, so I’m pretty jazzed about having an entire show just devoted to that
Well done everyone on another amazing awards ceremony. Having a break down of the awards afterwards is brilliant - and I love this group of hosts. Can't wait for Chauncey's show! ✨
All i kept thinking when Megan won Best Villain was that it felt very appropriate and reminded me of the podcast u guys did on when real life influences horror. Especially given the rise of A.I and the fears and worries of it taking over.
I tend to describe "Beau is Afraid" to people as "Horror, but with anxiety instead of fear." - By that metric I think your choice makes sense, though. Its goals - the emotion it is intended to portray are a sister to those of traditional horror, but something different.
What a fantastic award show. I love to see horror being celebrated when others don't want to acknowledge it. Btw Congratulations on the baby Zoran, I'm sure it'll enjoy time traveling in the basement Tardis.
I don't know if I want to expose the baby to the timestream too early. Might become a bit of a River Song thing and start saying "Sweetie" and "Spoilers" all the time
Pretty sure the disconnect between the chat and the Fan Favorite has more to do with the people who are more likely to speak up in chat. I voted for Talk To Me and never participate in chat because it’s like talking into a void. It’s not my thing. I would guess there are a lot of quiet voters out there.
I think the reason why kids/pregnancies are a recent theme is the recent baby boom from the lockdown. There are a lot of new parents that can relate to these themes.
It's an honor to be here from the beginning and to get to see how far you all have come. I've always liked horror but Dead Meat made me fall in love. I used to always think I was too scared to watch most horror movies and would watch kill counts to see if I could stomach certain movies. I credit James with helping me realize I could give horror other than Scream a shot . Now I'm here, 3 Dead Meat Horror Awards deep- having seen more of the nominees than ever before. Excited to check out the ones I haven't. Excited for the next horror Survivor. Excited for Production Tales From Hell. Excited to finally order some merch. Congratulations again. Lil Meaty Forever
Loved the awards and the podcast. James, you shouldn't worry too much about the panel. The results were very on par with critics' and audience's reception. Talk To Me and When Evil Lurks were the two standouts in 2023 and they both won, and with Godzilla's Oscar nomination its wins here also made sense. The only categpry that really surprised me was Lead, cause I was also expecting a Tobin Bell win, but Natalia did pretty awespme too. Improvements are always welcome, just don't treat them as needed. You all did an amazing job, and I'm thankful for it.
this year's award show was great! i saw that "when evil lurks" swept and watched it the next day! i wouldn't have ever heard about some of these films if it wasn't for these videos and awards! love you guys!
As someone who LOVES award ceremonies, I love the Dead Meat Awards and everything you all do. Just continues to bring the horror community together and allows them to get some deserved awards! 🖤
i started welling up the second i started watching the DHMA because i’m so proud of how far james and chelsea and this channel have come!! the show was great guys. Defo would love a score/music category if possible, and maybe a costumes and makeup one that’s separate from practical effects!
Absolutely cannot believe this is the first time Zoran's been on the podcast! Yelled soooo loud when I caught his cameo in the most recent Never Hike Alone film. Love to see it!
So fun to hear everyone's thoughts! I'm a costumes professional, so I would love to see an award for costuming in the future, along with production design and script writing! And music if you could someday figure out how to make it work.
Thank you all so much for the work you continue to do. Every part of the channel continues to get better with time. Fantastic Job on the awards this year!
Oh my god, I literally requested The Crow a couple months ago after having watched it for the first time, and I live in Detroit, I’ve never been happier 😂
james you are the sole reason i can watch horror movies i used to not be able to then i found your channel like 3 years ago and it made it easier to where now i can watch anything. i have been watching since i found this channel
I don’t know if the Dead Meat team will see this, but there should be a Best Score category (or could combine it with sound stuff to be a Best Sound category). So much of horror is dependent on the quality of the music and sound design, and it would be great to see that recognized!
Would really like to see a Horror Comedy category. I feel like Horror Comedies tend to get overlooked by some horror fans. It’s such a difficult balance to maintain and very different from moments of comedic levity.
I had heard of, and seen most of the movies in the awards. However the one I hadn't seen yet was When Evil lurks, and oh my lord it winning the kill of the year fucked me up. I was not prepared to see that happen.. And then i watched the movie. Incredible piece of art but so harrowing
Will the “dead meat” reference in from the latter half of Lisa Frankenstein ever be added to the podcast intro, do y’all think? It felt like a very intentional reference to you guys.
The discussion on awards reminds me so much of Leo DiCaprio winning for The Revenant when he’s had heaps of prior performances that were arguably better 😅
If you're considering doing a "funniest film" category, then perhaps you should do a "scariest film" one too. Skinamarink would've taken that for me easily.
The Dead Meat podcast bringing on guests is always always great and I love how this one is going. I loved the quick text they put on screen to disclose they watched The Beekeeper and loved it. I also loved the bleep part on the spoiler. Just a great podcast episode!
You guys made such excellent nominee choices that it seems impossible to choose! In every single category I thought that each nominee could win and I would get why it had won. Thank you so much for putting it on the past few years, it gets better each time!! I also LOOOVE the post discussion and hearing how everyone voted, it's so fun
Production design I agree would be an amazing new category. You could show off a ton of bts stuff for demonstrating the appreciation of an area in film that I feel gets way overlooked for recognition. And let's face it, if you don't have a great setting then no matter what the actors say the movie won't work! Great idea Dead Meat to add that next year.
Crossing my fingers and hoping a Dead Meat Podcast Live Show will end up happening at an accessible city for me. Y'all really helped me appreciate horror as a genre so it would be a lovely experience to see you live!
