Wow shocked by how many people found out about Brandon Lee's tragic death while making the Crow. Great to see you introducing more people to this masterpiece of a film and performance from Brandon.R.I.P
It’s weirdly relieving to know that even to hard core horror fans that’s not the first thing they think about when they hear of this movie.I’ve always thought that was like a very well known thing and that everyone was turned away from this movie because of it but apparently not, to some this is just an excellent film with a great lead which is nice.
My only hangup about the remake, is the fact that he is Eric Draven. Brandon Lee IS Eric Draven, if Bill were playing one of the other people to take on the Crow persona, I'd be all for it.
My late dad's favorite movie of all time, he literally had 4 tattoos inspired by this movie. Growing up we'd watch it together like once a week, this movie will always have a special place in my heart. Such a weird coincidence you posted this on the channel on his 6th anniversary of his passing, thanks for making my kinda sad day alittle better.
@@h.haydon8044 Thanks, he had eric's make up like the eyes and lips, he had the line " It cant rain all the time", He had the crow logo made of fire from the car crash scene and the line "Nothing is trivial" surrounded by crows.
The Dead Meat Podcast is actually my favorite part of Dead Meat, so I'm glad it's getting it's own channel! Hopefully this helps the podcast grow and grow!
Was able to go to the live show with my mom it was one of the best experiences you guys are even funnier in person couldn't afford the vip tickets but just seeing you in person was absolutely amazing you guys are great hope you come back soon ! (Not to brag but my mom was the one who shouted the ppl mover was free 🤭) it was great to see other dead meat fans too everyone was great and we were all complimenting each other rlly great environment 😊😊
The Crow is such an iconic movie. Brandon Lee was fantastic in it, and the fact that he died during production makes it more tragic. I can't believe some of the people in the audience didn't know that fact.
I had never seen Brandon’s quote from the making of doc. It was so beautiful and profound. Really cool to have you guys show it to us and end there. I think James even got a lil choked up hearing Chelsea say it.
So damn happy to have been there. It was just like a normal episode, but with everybody able to laugh along and really enjoy the atmosphere. Brilliantly done. Congrats on a roaring success. 🎉
We had the best time! Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with my fiancee and I at Astro! (She's still geeking out about having a moment with Chelsea about how hot Brandon Lee is) The show was fantastic, it was so much fun getting to meet fellow Meaties! Hopefully you guys will do more soon!
My siblings and I were able to go to this live show together and when we were leaving there was a giant puddle by our car and we just started cracking up! “Oh no not a puddle” 😂
The Crow is such a special movie to me because i'm named after Brandon Lee (even if Brandon was the most common name in 1994) so I was so happy to hear how much you guys liked this movie!
This is a movie I picked up from blockbuster based on the cover. I rented it so much for months, it’s a very important film to me. I have “it can’t rain all the time” on my chest, thank you for covering this masterpiece
I think I didn’t get to share my excitement live so much, because I was so captivated by the fact that this actually happened. Thank you James and Chelsea for making this happen❤️
The crow is one of my favourite films i love the setting of the city and Brandon Lee's acting is brilliant also it's got the cure song burn which is a brilliant song Rip Brandon Lee
Had a friend in high school, Esther, who was absolutely OBSESSED with The Crow. We had art class together for four years and I learned more about The Crow then I ever wanted to know. She was a self-proclaimed "perky goth", and this movie now kind of becoming the time capsule for the goth 90s of the time, it's great. I think this story of grief needs the humor this movie provides, about that perhaps the people we remember can be comforting in our grief. Also don't do vengeance. The scene where he paints himself to The Cure is an excellent scene. And the remake made it an absurdity, when in this film it's one of the most powerful scenes in the movie. You understand that he's putting on fucking warpaint, to avenge the love of his life, and you are rooting for him. He's not painting himself as a clown or a harlequin or as a joke. A good movie makes you feel badassery. Shoutout to you, Esther. You were right about The Crow being amazing. Also, the lore could be from Norse mythology. The Allfather has Dream and Thought, I think? And they're ravens that perched on his shoulders. I think the raven was a psychopomp in their culture, and that perhaps Norse warriors believed in a battle turned tragic might keep a warrior in the world of the living. I
Really loved this episode and wish I could have gone in person. I was exactly the target audience for this movie when it came out! Some context from someone who was in the relevant scenes at this time: The bands on the soundtrack were all HUGE already in the post-punk/new wave, alternative, metal, and industrial music scenes in the US even before the movie except (at least in my experience) Jane Siberry and Medicine. The urban fantasy and gothic punk genres were really taking off in literature at the time, too, and they were 100% intertwined with horror more often than not. That genre mixture, in various amounts, was showing up in everything from visual art, to roleplaying games, to comic books, to novels, with the genre lines really being blurred constantly. That subculture mix absolutely oozes from the film and the music choices gave an authenticity that made the entire heightened reality of the setting seem like a kind of plausible dystopia for those of us within it. It didn't feel like someone from the outside trying to appeal to our demographic. It felt like a product OF our demographic. But uh, also, did anyone else hear James call Angel David's character Skank "Stank" the whole time, or was I just hearing him wrong? It fits, though. The character does look smelly.
Congratulations on your new projects and adventures! Dead meat is really growing exponentially, it's so great to see the journey youve been on, from a table in your apartment to the Masonic theater! Amazing ❤
I have always said this is my idea of a love story/romance movie. It's beautiful. Everyone should be so lucky to have someone love them as much as Eric loves Shelly.
37:54 action is shot in the middle to more easily follow along. George Miller had this technique done for Fury Road as to not confuse the audience on where the action is
I remember being a kid watching the wrestler Sting and thinking he was The Crow lol. Now as an adult i find out Sting basically based his face paint off The Crow cause it was his favorite movie. Literally came full circle for me lol
I saw this movie when I was 19 or 20 and it blew me away. I was a huge Bruce Lee fan (he was my hero) and had seen a couple of Brandon Lee movies prior to it coming out. I remember thinking how cool Brandon was. He was his own person, his own actor with his own dreams and goals and I remember being overwhelmingly sad when Brandon died....In a way I'm still sad, like all my childhood heroes had died before they were meant to.
Since you mention Alex Proyas, I have to drop a plug for "Dark City", one of the movies that have stuck with me the most over the years. If you liked The Matrix and Inception, definitely check it out if you can find it. It managed to capture the essence of both films with a fraction of the budget in freaking 1998! But only the Director's Cut. The theatrical version spoils the hell out of the film's twist in an opening narration. It doesn't ruin the film but it's definitely unnecessary.
I had the best time watching this live from the audience! It was soooooo awesome seeing how many other Detroit Dead Meat fans there are! I met some really nice and cool people. I hope I get a chance to meet you guys the next time! ❤❤❤❤
Congratulations guys. Great to see you doing the pod as a live show definitely my favourite dead meat show. Can't wait to watch this episode on the Crow. Such a classic film. Any chance of doing an American werewolf in London in London for us UK folk.
Great episode, guys. I really should rewatch The Crow, but I couldn't wait to see the latest podcast entry. The ending is so beautiful, and I even teared up early in the episode when you mentioned Brandon Lee finally feeling like he wasn't just living in his father's shadow. It's really tragic that we lost both of them when they were so young.
The Crow is a classic and has such a cool style and soundtrack. I remember how awesome it was seeing The Cure play Burn in concert last year. Having the show in the Masonic Temple's chapel is just perfect.
This was a great time and a massive success. Happy to have been a small part of the first live podcast. I look forward to many more of these in the future!
I was eight years old, hooked on The Crow - Stairway to Heaven television series as it was airing in 1998, before I even knew about the existence of Brandon's 1994 movie. Then I found out what happened to him and all the wind went out of me. I wasn't even in middle school yet, so I was a wreck for quite a while. If something like that happened to the stars from Beastmaster, Xena or Hercules, I don't even know, man... I look forward to the rest of this episode, you're both stunning, and I hope I can get my brother to give me a ride to see Bill Skarsgård's film.
This movie stuck with me from my childhood in the 90s, when i had it on VHS. It is beautiful & brilliant and I find with that interview at the end of the film with Brandon it ties it all up with a pretty bow! Loved this and you guys for doing it!❤
Was lucky enough to sit front row for the show! It was such a great time! Thank you for being one of the main reasons I found such an interest in horror. It has become such a huge part of my life, as well as this channel!

The look on Chelsea’s face
I'm surprised on how many in the audience did not know that. RIP Brandon.
I’m guessing they also wouldn’t know that he was Bruce Lee’s son

I knew about it before watching but my friends I told had no idea. They were wide eyed as I told the story.
I support Chelsea saying Dead Meat Presents 🎁
When it's Christmas time they just have to add some bloody candy canes to the logo
Say it to fast.
For a second thought she said deadly presence
It's cuz the podcast is a gift to us
My only hangup about the remake, is the fact that he is Eric Draven. Brandon Lee IS Eric Draven, if Bill were playing one of the other people to take on the Crow persona, I'd be all for it.
I agree however they tried other Crow characters and no one really cared

Worth mentioning, Brandon Lee's stunt double, who filled in after Lee's death to finish the movie was Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick films.
