The joy in your voice, especially after the match to make it 3-0 is the reason to watch these videos. This was one of my favorites in a LONG time. Great video.
I have to admit, the first time I saw the list having sifter wurm, I was really really sceptical. But wow, seth you really proved people wrong. I think we need to see you play this against the red decks before we can say this is a good deck. On a side note, really strong plays today seth. Aside from a couple of questionable ones, you played really2 well and got out of some very sticky situations.
As it would have been really bad had there been no gift to hit as most of the creatures had 4 toughness meaning besides hitting champion, freebooter and gift. It would have been a card stranded in his hand where just getting rid of the grave shuts down the gift just as easily and he can sustain grave hate more than artifact hate.
the real question is, what do you take out for it? And thats thecrux of it, you probably wont find somethin to take out thats not much more versatile then GPG.
With multiple Consigns and Bombardments in main, blowing up GPG isn't something you need to go deep on anyway. The deck can actually beat a resolved GPG long enough to answer it, so it doesn't need to go in on more answers.
Okay, the video's been up for literally a minute, but I just wanted to post that I'm excited for this! Been thinking about Modern Ponza, and wasn't sure how I feel about it. Looks awesome, though!
Ponza's seen better days metagame wise, but it's one of "those decks" that will just always be in tier 2 and occasionally poke it's head into top 8 finishes. It's a great deck if that's your play style!
I appreciate the channel Seth, it’s more entertaining than anything on TV lol About a month ago I lost all of my cards & property in an apartment fire so videos like this give me a structured idea on rebuilding my collection.
I left a comment in last week's budget magic talking about this deck, really happy to see you had the same idea. This looks super sweet, i hope it does well so i can build it IRL.
Sifter Worm is a great ramp finisher. It stabilised a ton of life and fixes the wrong half problem ramp has where you keep drawing more ramp late game. Add on trample and it is an ideal ramp finisher.
1:04:38 2 minutes on the clock, attacking for win with Carnage Tyrant for the win, and your jet lag is suddenly cured! I bet you slept for a month after that.
I've been playing a Naya Squee Hapazard deck. Keep bringing Squee back as a blocker, Haphazard their lands, with Fumigates to protect Chandra and Gideon. Not quite as fast as your ramp deck, but it's been effective.
Did Seth miss lethal at 27:33 ? If you played Oasis and double pumped the Sifter Wurm you make it a 13/13 with trample, and the opponent only has 8 power worth of blockers and is at 5 life. Maybe he was worried about a one mana cycler making a drake? With the opponent only having one card in hand I'd of been tempted to go for it. Buuuuuut he won the match anyways so *shrug*
Interesting... I may have to adjust my current land destruction deck. Although, Primal Amulet/Sunbird's/Etali are all quite nice for getting off a whole bunch of Demolishes.
Hey Seth, after discovering your channel, I just binge watched all your videos! I love your channel! I love a lot of the budget decks, but I was wondering which is the best one?
In my opinion, the deck should always run 4 bombardments. The card has three drawbacks: * It's slow. *It misses the last counter. * It's random. Having 4 bombardments increases our chances of playing two of them in a row, or even more if we're lucky. Each copy makes each other stronger, as they get faster, previous bombardments get online again thanks to the new counters and the randomess is diminished a little as you have more chances each turn of hitting the best permanent.
I have been playing something like this for about a month now, but with creeping mold and viloent impact for more land d, incidental artifact hate, and blink of an eye for the reset. I also use elves for ramp. It is frustrating for the opponent to have lands blown up regularly.
If he wouldn't block it, it would reset all -1/-1 counters on the afflict creature, and that would be far worse than just soaking up 3 afflict damage I guess.
@seth in the blue white drake haven match game 3 you should have started using your memorials of war to start attacking his blue mana as I was watching a ton of his cycle cards he cast since you could have destroyed them where all requiring blue mana. If you had attacked the blue mana earlier on I think game three would have went a lot better plus it stops a ton of his counter spells as they need double blue.
16:15 why not sac the scavenger grounds in response to them targeting something with gpg? I really like bombardment. Tried it in draft 2 times over the weekend and after realizing it hit lands, managed to blow up 3 lands one game. Land destruction in limited isn't usually good. But 3 for 1s and keeping your opponent mana screwed with it can be great! Not sure Memorial to war is great.
God-Pharaoh's Gift is weird, since it doesn't actually target. If we let the trigger resolve our opponent can get back any creature they want, so the only time to use Scavenger Grounds is with the trigger on the stack (although as we saw there, the opponent can still cycle or mill themselves to get more cards in the graveyard).
You need to practice holding the Auto-Tap mana button when making mana to avoid wasting time. Then you won't have to worry about timing out against control so much.
Does the 'W' key still fast tap lands for its first color if you hold it? This would be VERY helpful for Seth to start implementing to avoid timing out. Tap the first lands you need to pay the color part of the cost, then hold W and tap the rest so they tap quickly. Saves A LOT of time tapping, especially for X spells.
I haven't played MTGO since switching to Arena, but I think if you hold the W key when you go to tap lands, it doesn't bring up the different options that land has for tapping (Like Scavenger Grounds for example), it just taps for the generic mana on the first click, or if it's a two color land it just creates the first color of mana in the text box. Basically it just adds the mana from it in one click and saves a ton of time, especially if you're tapping like 12 lands or something.
OMG this deck is so SWEEEEEEEET, do you think it could be viable after rotation? with the dominaria kicker version of hour of promise and some twists here and there?
do you think this could be an interesting topic for Brewer's minute? I mean talking on how to substitute some cards when a set rotate? or maybe a Sometimes Subseries (btw I love this name :D)
Oh man I want to build this so bad, but it's sooooo "expensive" on Arena... I'd have to get like a 45 or maybe even 90 pack of Amonket just to get the rare wildcards I need ☹️
At 27:49 you can choose the hexproof creature with Haphazard Bombardment because it doesn't "target" permanents.
The joy in your voice, especially after the match to make it 3-0 is the reason to watch these videos. This was one of my favorites in a LONG time. Great video.
ABRADE HITS ARTIFACTS SETH
Oh, yeah...good call.
Thanks!
They played a very similar deck on standard super league and it did very good against red
Seth, why not bring abrade against God-pharao's gift?
As it would have been really bad had there been no gift to hit as most of the creatures had 4 toughness meaning besides hitting champion, freebooter and gift. It would have been a card stranded in his hand where just getting rid of the grave shuts down the gift just as easily and he can sustain grave hate more than artifact hate.
But why dot redundancy? What you said doesn't justify.
the real question is, what do you take out for it?
And thats thecrux of it, you probably wont find somethin to take out thats not much more versatile then GPG.
With multiple Consigns and Bombardments in main, blowing up GPG isn't something you need to go deep on anyway. The deck can actually beat a resolved GPG long enough to answer it, so it doesn't need to go in on more answers.
Why does he even have abrade in the sideboard if its not for GPG?
This sums up this entire episode “opponent reading Haphazard Bombardment, they’ve never seen it before.” I lol. Seth for President.
Can’t die to chainwhirler if they can’t cast it.
Awesome!
Stephen Housman Footsteps And Woodfall? Do you know of a good basic deck list I can base an idea off of?
Jeff Hoogland ran a couple lists
Seth you are one of the most entertaining people on UA-cam I swear lol
Thanks!
Love Sifter Wurm. Really gross with Helm of the Host and/or Panharmonicon.
With Pelakka Wurm coming in M19, we might finally be able to make Wurm tribal :)
Incomming deck for AGainst the odds or for Budget magic?
Sad it will be only for 3 months though
gross.
Oh please Seth, please DO IT
I appreciate the channel Seth, it’s more entertaining than anything on TV lol
About a month ago I lost all of my cards & property in an apartment fire so videos like this give me a structured idea on rebuilding my collection.
Budget decks are a lifesaver right now
Ugh, sorry about your collection :(
Thanks for the kind works though!
MTGGoldfish
Just keep doing what you do best bro, I wanna see that Four Color Legends Deck play out 👍 *props*
Games start @ 9:30
this is the first time ive watched one of these videos and immediately ordered the deck. this looks like too much fun
1:04:38 2 minutes on the clock, attacking for win with Carnage Tyrant for the win, and your jet lag is suddenly cured! I bet you slept for a month after that.
1:04:26 What a long.... grame
I was only half awake for most of these matches (but in hindsight I might play better that way).
MTGGoldfish Yeah I don't have to be tired and I do that all the time. :)
A grame is just a grindy game ;)
Those games were insane! I've been hoping a deck like this could exist.
The deck is way better than it looks on paper!
@1:24:00 Only Seth could say "Are they just gonna make our wurm smaller" and not even give off a quiet chuckle.
Ah Seth I love these kind of decks you build! Top video and very skillful play!
This deck is so brutal! Well done on getting a 5-0. Deck looks like a blast to play.
YES !!... Finally !!..
This card is soooo good... But I didn't expect it to fit in such a deck (and the deck to perform that well either !)
Dang, this is some insane deck we got here !
Seth freaking out about timing out is my lifeblood
Just built this on MTG Arena as soon as I saw it. This deck is hilarious.
Matt Butler I have been running something like this for weeks on arena and it is so fun
Sweet!
Matt Butler i had the same idea. Hope it works out for you.
This is like playing an EDH deck in standard and I love it
Oooo, just started match 1. I play a deck like this in Arena! It's super fun and quite strong.
I've been playing a Naya Squee Hapazard deck. Keep bringing Squee back as a blocker, Haphazard their lands, with Fumigates to protect Chandra and Gideon. Not quite as fast as your ramp deck, but it's been effective.
Creeping mold might be something to consider.
imma use multani instead of carny t. great tech, seth
I don't know why i want to play this but it looks really fun!
I really like these ramp decks in Standard.
I wish I could like this video twice!
5 AND 0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best and spiciest Budget Magic deck since Muldrotha
Missed exact lethal at 27:34. Double Oasis activation gives you a 13-power trampler against 5 life and 8 toughness.
Crucible of Worlds is gonna make this deck even more hilarious.
This was amazing. Would make an epic stream deck
I think Seth is the only guy to be able to make a land destruction deck in standard without fall of the thran.
I love grindy decks, the ended up being way awesome for my tastes :D
Interesting... I may have to adjust my current land destruction deck. Although, Primal Amulet/Sunbird's/Etali are all quite nice for getting off a whole bunch of Demolishes.
look at the baby wurm foreshadowing the power of pelakka wurm
Nicol Bolas, the Deceiver might be a good include in this deck.
Hi Seth, finally put this together on arena. Really good fun, wondered if there would be any additions from m19? Nexus maybe?
Nexus seems sweet!
This made my day! ^__^
All this ordnance brings new meaning to explosive veggies.
The best way to play Magic is "You can't win if I can't die."... keep up the tempo builds. :)
I love it. Can't wait to play it.
please play against mono red
AND IN HIS TRAIL IS MAYHEM
DESTRUCTION ALWAYS FOLLOW
THE STRICKEN ENEMIES OF
THE HAPHAZARD RAMPER
29:00 Liliana's, Lands, and Wurms, Oh My! LMAO
Hey Seth, after discovering your channel, I just binge watched all your videos! I love your channel! I love a lot of the budget decks, but I was wondering which is the best one?
I LOVE this! Been looking for a way to abuse Haphazard Bombardment. Mwah ha ha ha!
That moment at 57:30 when I forgot that was only game 1.
28:00 could choose the riverwinder since choose doesn't target
In my opinion, the deck should always run 4 bombardments. The card has three drawbacks:
* It's slow.
*It misses the last counter.
* It's random.
Having 4 bombardments increases our chances of playing two of them in a row, or even more if we're lucky. Each copy makes each other stronger, as they get faster, previous bombardments get online again thanks to the new counters and the randomess is diminished a little as you have more chances each turn of hitting the best permanent.
This deck 5-0'd?? What a time to be alive.
Match 2 against Esper Control: you could have won earlier sacrifying Hashep to make your Tyrant letal.
I have been playing something like this for about a month now, but with creeping mold and viloent impact for more land d, incidental artifact hate, and blink of an eye for the reset. I also use elves for ramp. It is frustrating for the opponent to have lands blown up regularly.
interesting thought why not bring some of these decks over into MTG:Arena now that the full standard is in it. enjoy your content.
So impressed
It’s not that you blocked a 3/3 with afflict 3. It’s that you knew exactly what was happening and described it calmly - “get afflicted”
If he wouldn't block it, it would reset all -1/-1 counters on the afflict creature, and that would be far worse than just soaking up 3 afflict damage I guess.
Good shit my man
I LOVE janky amonkhet desert ramp decks
*winning race against Drake haven with a Carnage Tyrant* *attacks Tefferi instead...*
Will the configure become pallaka wurm when the M19 releases for a few months?
blowing up lands never gets old.
Agreed.
very good deck
Nice vid. Anyone else wanting more arena gameplay though ?
Hey it’s been awhile since I watched your videos, could u explain what happened to the shorter budget magic videos
Out of curiosity, vs Esper control could you have not just used hashep oasis on the carnage tyrant to try to game them on the spot?
@seth in the blue white drake haven match game 3 you should have started using your memorials of war to start attacking his blue mana as I was watching a ton of his cycle cards he cast since you could have destroyed them where all requiring blue mana. If you had attacked the blue mana earlier on I think game three would have went a lot better plus it stops a ton of his counter spells as they need double blue.
Good call. Probably should have been more aggressive with the LD.
just out of curiousity, why no llanowar elf? Getting to 6 mana on t4 seems really good in this shell
Why no Sandwurm Convergence against the Drake Havens?
@seth would you ever consider playing a Jodah deck in standard now or after M19 which adds some cool cards to cheat into play?
Jodah seems like a good against the odds card!
This deck is awesome! Seth, I have been trying to redo your Combustible Ghalta deck - amy way I can share it with you for your opinions?
Sure. Leave me a link!
Time to take this to a league
hap bomb a fave in limited
Will you be going to Arena. What if they offer to transfer cards from mtgo or offer equivalent priced cards
Multiple games where you could have used Hashep Oasis for lethal!
"Endless counters are really obnoxious." says the guy playing land destruction, lol.
what's the card where it turns all your lands into 3/3 creatures? could that work here?
If there are multiple Bombardments out, plenty of triggers
Super nice deck... i'm curious to see it in a not budjet edition
this deck was just so good... i was the terror of fnm armed with this monster, lol.
I've never clicked the "W" key, so I have no idea. I'll have to try it.
OMG this deck is so SWEEEEEEEET, do you think it could be viable after rotation? with the dominaria kicker version of hour of promise and some twists here and there?
Losing Hour of Promise will hurt, but we should have enough good ramp to keep a similar deck functioning.
do you think this could be an interesting topic for Brewer's minute? I mean talking on how to substitute some cards when a set rotate? or maybe a Sometimes Subseries (btw I love this name :D)
Kinda wish to see the original decklist
Check the "read more" like in the description, the original list is in the article.
the first game in the first match is why you don't have to scoop early
how do you not bring in those abrades vs GPG?
OMG Those games!!!!
Oh man I want to build this so bad, but it's sooooo "expensive" on Arena... I'd have to get like a 45 or maybe even 90 pack of Amonket just to get the rare wildcards I need ☹️
Yeah, $25 on MTGO is sometimes like $200 on Arena. Silly wildcards.
MTGGoldfish Yeah I'd give just about anything to have something like even a 10 to 1 exchange rate on uncommon to rare wildcards.
All this did was prove to me, Temur ramp can win in-spite of wasting 4 slots.
I'm wondering if Sylvan Awakening would be a good 1-2 of as a finisher late game
For some reason I still haven't been able to bring myself to play a Sylvan Awakening deck, but I need to, because people really want to see it.
damn!!! ponza standard is a thing!!!
Why no Llanowar Elves...? You could turn 2 ramp with Gift or Spring then turn 3 play a 5 drop...
Seth consistently missed lethal because he forgot the green desert has text
