Yeah, I'm surprised the deck worked as well as it did without Ram and the other gate payoffs. Maybe we'll get them in the future before Foundations rotates.
I wish Maze’s End had its own unique animation for winning the game other than just having the opponent’s head explode. Like an animation of all the gates being built or something.
I'd settle for an active Gate count on the card, like how cards with Delirium have that number on the side showing how close you are to having it active.
@@MTGGoldfish while im glad they moved away from every random mythic having an really extra animation (with some of them looking kind of ugly too), I I do think it'd be nice if some of the more unique cards had something to give them a bit more flair.
Jim Davis tried to build a maze's end deck in his UA-cam channel, but he didnt believe in omenpath's journey as a tool. Is risky, but it helps. The Titania's command is also a good addition. Nice deck
I love the variety in standard! You got the mono-black decks, the black-reds, the black-whites, the black-greens, the black-blues, the black-blue-whites. Then you have the mono-red decks and the other ones that pretend they aren't mono-red by splashing green or white. Endless possibilities!
There’s a surprising amount of graveyard recursion for lands in Standard at the moment. Toss in a Lumra and/or Bonny Pall and you’ve got some significant bodies for when the combo win isn’t going so well too.
You should make a physical tracker that makes it easier to check which ones you have. Like an abacus type design, slide some coin or labeled object to the right when you have that gate on the field, and to the left when you don't have it yet
I'm so glad Seth went with Day of Judgement against that reanimator deck. They could've used the vehicle to have Atraxa survive Split Up and I don't think he saw that line. Hopefully the opponent wouldn't've either though lol
For a deck like this, I'd definitely want to track the Gates I had outside of looking at tiny squares on a screen. The notes app I use has a checklist mode, so I'd just write down all the Gates in the deck I had, check them off as they are played, and look at the unchecked ones when tutoring for the next one. Just something that might make tracking it easier!
I am making this comment without checking Seth’s decklist, but my first instinct against a maze deck is always removing Rakdos guildgate, which always seem to be a bad color combination for any maze deck, so it is mostly a 1 copy gate.
I don't get it. I am subscribed to MTGGoldfish and all your other channels, but I never EVER get a notification when a new video drops. Meanwhile I get notifications for junk I don't care about every other day. I wish UA-cam stopped being such a derp, since I love all your content. Thanks Seth and glad to see your cough is clearing up!
What do you think about enigma jewel in a maze's end list? It has been a house with fountainport/mirrex. You can even start maze ending activating as early as turn 3. Omen hawker is too vulnerable to removal, but enigma jewel does crazy stuff and fuels cards like mazemind tome or collector's vault and ramps/searches into wraths
At 31:51 your Omenpath clock could've been shorter if you picked fewer lands. I don't think it'd have won you the game, but still could've been a misplay.
Love Maze's End and enjoy the content, but Seth Probably Better Known As SaffronOlive has sounded really sick in all his videos this week and should probably take a couple days off to recover.
I have only seen the first game of the first match but I imagine assembling ten different lands is not going to fare well in a standard with two OTK combos
The fact we got all the gates back in standard but not the ram is a travesty
The ram was decent but it was only as good as it was cause it always survived Gates Ablaze. Which is the real travesty that Gates Ablaze isn't back.
Since Foundations is going to be legal in Standard for 5 years, I'm hoping they're signaling a new Ravnica set in the future.
honestly the ram would do nothing in this deck considering that standard is 80% removal tribal.
Nah im glad blaze isnt back. @FlawlessRhythmGG

WOTC is a small indie card game they don't have the budget for fancy animations like that 😿
@@destroyerbot2066 🤣🤣🤣
exactly, especially because it isn't "opponent loses" it's "you win." agreed that it should have a gate count too, for each players' benefit.
@@jrjamesson Yeah, just an animation for "You win" would be awesome. Like when you do Oracle of Thassa. Its not just one card.
The fabled return of Sir Cootius Root!
seth building brews with every nonbasic land type series
Seth has the best brews.
Our folds to bloodmoon series.
Does that mean he has to do tron?
@@nubbyboi6523 he will, as soon as they print some insanely janky urza's lands in mh4 or the next un-set.

I understand the poor devs are probably overworked as is, but man, i wish all the alternate win cons had unique animations
Over worked? Never seen a game with less features added lol
There is so much more Wizards could do with animations. It's sort of sad we don't get more cool ones.
@@MTGGoldfish while im glad they moved away from every random mythic having an really extra animation (with some of them looking kind of ugly too), I I do think it'd be nice if some of the more unique cards had something to give them a bit more flair.
hey seth dont forget about the cave land that enters and becomes a copy of any land in your graveyard.... 😅
specifically works with spelunking as well
We need Gates though
@MTGGoldfish , yes, but it would then be a gate, and would let you recuperate a gate that you may not be able to recur via spells

thinks too much like a pro player, which keeps him back from unlocking the true power of a jank deck
I built a Monogreen deck using Hedge Shredder and selfmill
4 Argoth, Sanctum of Nature
2 Selesnya Guildgate
2 Altanak, the Thrice-Called
2 Hedge Shredder
4 Say Its Name
2 Stubborn Burrowfiend
4 Circuitous Route
2 Greenhouse // Rickety Gazebo
2 Case of the Locked Hothouse
2 Simic Guildgate
2 Bramble Familiar // Fetch Quest
1 Azorius Guildgate
1 Dimir Guildgate
2 Conduit of Worlds
2 Blanchwood Prowler
4 Thran Portal
2 Golgari Guildgate
1 Boros Guildgate
1 Izzet Guildgate
2 Omenpath Journey
4 Maze's End
2 Spelunking
1 Rakdos Guildgate
4 Aftermath Analyst
1 Orzhov Guildgate
2 Gruul Guildgate
2 Loot, Exuberant Explorer
// Sideboard
2 Omenpath Journey
2 Walk-In Closet // Forgotten Cellar
Omenpath's Journey is risky, but overall I think it is good enough, especially if you are cautious about what Gates you grab if you expect removal.

Smart
My first deck was budget Gates in Historic, so it's really cool to see it coming up here!
My favorite opponent was the one playing Black
Spelunking in general I feel is an underrated card, I run that and hedge shredder in my grolnok deck and it goes brrrrrrrrr
Oof, poor Seth, that sickness is sticking around, feel better soon!
Nothing like some early Olive to start the work week.
Hedge shredder would be great in the deck

My biggest takeaway from this is that I still hate Loot’s design and don’t look forward to seeing him in more card art.
100 dollars being the new budget magic is crazy.

All I want now is a card that rewards players for having gates, deserts, and caves on the field at the same time.

I am a great believer in Deadly Cover Up. Time to make some gate players cry
What about some kind of Hedge Shredder + Mazes end to get all of the lands on the battlefield in one turn?

Fun, but what in the world would it do vs any mono red/gruul aggressive deck or control deck with counter spells?
the deck doesnt really care if you counter the ramps spells and in regards to Mono Red I would use Elspeth's Smite main deck
"Bedder Gnown"
Could a Progenitus brew be possible in standard?

Sir Cootius Root
Gated Haunted House?
FLYwheel racer, not fleetwheel.
so you said break the hedge shredder... why not do it in a gates deck? mill gates put them all into play?

FIRST THANK YOU SAFFRON !
Anyone else have to listen to this on 1.25? seemed like he was talking way slower for some reason.
not impressed by omenpath journey. "4 mana ramp 5, potentially" is kind of like saying the lookout is 3 mana deal 20, potentially
SIR QUEUE IT US Route, really not too hard
I love ya Seth, but your biggest flaw is that you are a gate deck player. I hate Mazes end, lol.
where's the fun-of doppelgang? you're ramping anyway and have spelunking
and you could copy the Maze's End to do more search per turn
