Life too short for long UA-cam videos? See the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Oh no! Not //more// OD pedals? Believe it sister - it's a lifetime’s work and boy are we on that journey. So for no other reason than we felt like it, we assembled six cool new (ish) things and took a swing at them.
In a departure from the norm, here's some extra info that we either skirted over or didn’t know in the video. So…
The Terry White Rabbit Deluxe deserves more attention. We were struggling to get it to sit with the amps today in terms of level and dynamic. It underlines its position as a ‘preamp / line driver’, similar to what you'd expect from the JHS Colour Box and the like. It will reappear, almost certainly when we’re recording actual real, y'know, music.
The Keeley Aria Compressor Drive also has the TRS jacks function like the D&M Drive to enable you to place each effect in different loops on your true bypass loop switcher. Cool!
The Free The Tone pedals are from FTT’s Integrated Series, celebrating their 15th Anniversary. Please read the FTT website where they explain how the pedal casing and materials have been chosen with sound in mind. Hence the physical heft that we spoke about, perhaps! Yuki and team are serious about this stuff - we didn’t mean to be flippant about it. But this is TPS after all.
They also feature FTT’s latest evolution of the HTS Circuit, which is a unique take on a buffer. Even Matt Schofield likes it, and that’s about as high an endorsement as you’ll find.
Greuter is from Switzerland, not Austria! Sorry Sascha!
Please enjoy the episode…

Regarding the comments about “That Pedal Show not being about pedals....” I have learned more about guitars, amps, sound, and eq from you guys than anywhere else. Just keep doing what you do!
Couldn’t agree with this more!!
Yea totally agree. Tell that guy to sod off...and I’m not even English.
Totally disagree about sticking only to pedals. We’ve got the former editor of Guitarist magazine & the creator of The Gig Rig. I for one want to hear anything they have to say about what occurs between the musicians brain & my ears.
Thanks Stevie! Nice that you want to hear our drivel. Because we sure love talking it. ;0) Thanks for watching as always! :0)
Well said @stevieboy444
Absolutely
I enjoy nearly all the shows a bit of diversity never hurt anyone, the show on power supplies being a highlight afraid the midi one left me blank though, the amp ones are really interesting. Love the Gretch
Hear hear (in EVERY sense...) stevieboy444
I've been a little depressed the past couple of months. Watching That Pedal Show every week and also watching past episodes in between has cheered me up a lot. Thanks guys!
Nice one Nick. Dan and I know both know a small amount about occasional depression. It totally sucks. Playing guitar helps enormously (as does eating right and exercise, but that’s another thing). Wishing you much goodness and thanks for watching!
Thanks Mick. I am trying to eat better and exercise more. And my guitar is pretty much my girlfriend right now...
Yes! Dan’s Gretsch is back!
Beautiful!
Though he had another one too...
...nah..that was another thing..sorry..the Krautster..
I think TPS should be about guitar tone - not just pedals. Please keep discussing guitars, amps, cabinets, microphones - anything that affects the guitar tone. I think you could even sneak in a bit about technique as Eric Johnson said in an interview that the best way to find your sound was the work on how you play, such as how you mute notes. But, yes, lots of pedals! One man's opinion :-)
I’m with you Lawrence. Mick here - thanks for the feedback!
Simples, Mick.”you can’t have one without the otherrrrr” P
You guys just keep doing you. I don’t care if it’s guitars, pedals, amps, tea time, whatever...as long as it’s you and it’s genuine...because you guys are awesome.
Mick + Strat + super reverb = awesomeness
Love love LOVE the SRV licks you did while demoing the String Slinger, Mick!
Dan and Mick: Talk about whatever the heck you want. I watch because I like you guys and your insights, the pedals are ancilliary
Guys, do it all!!! Pedals, amps, rooms, musicians. (e.g. Matt Schofield, Graham Coxon, Joey Landreth) In the end, all topics are related. It's all about tone and feel and joy. Your depth of knowledge comes from interest, passion and enthusiasm. What lifts you head and shoulders above other channels is your genuine love of it all. It comes across and draws us in. Thanks for sharing that, mates.
I seriously love this show. Not so much for the gear, but for you. You guys really warm my heart.
Ah thank you! And you ours with comments like that!
You make some wicked sounds together - thanks mates!!
Mannnnnnnnnn!!! Free the tone!!!that fire and mist is really something, even with the gain all the way up!! Its up there with the best ive heard on this show.
Holy S@#! Mick when bonkers on that opening solo.
I've had the Lightspeed for a few months and I adore it. I also own their Special Request preamp/boost, I had their Tomahawk drive (only got rid of it because it didn't work great in my rig), and I've tried almost every pedal in their line. I cant speak highly enough about their stuff. Also, their amps are killer too! The Mini Chief will make you feel warm and tingly while it's ripping your head off
Have you tried the Little Samson?
Dev Dev? Bring me Dev Dev. Simply. Cannot. Wait. For. That. Great guys!
Devin Townsend + TPS. I'm gonna burst of satisfaction.
gotta say i love thatampshow, thatmicshow, that roomshow, etc. as someone who just starting to figure out recording, you've both been massively helpful in helping me understand how the equipment affects the sound. always loved thatpedalshow but i vote to keep thatrecordingshow going because you're both so knowledgable and quite good at explaining how different things affect your signal and therefore tone. so thanks for being such a good resource guys
Mick just said voltage charge pump?! Could you imagine that years ago? Just goes to show how much he’s learned. As an electrical engineer it makes me happy.
Are you shitting me? I’ve been writing about amps, pedals and guitars since 1997. But yes, I have learned stuff too. I play the dumbass on here as it’s kinda required. Cheers!
That Pedal Show At least on TPS, you used to claim ignorance of how things work if Dan started getting technical. I’m sure that’s all Brandon’s talking about.
Mick, be nice. The comment wasn't an insult, and not everyone knows the ins-and-outs of the long and hallowed career of one Mick Taylor. I'm sure many only know of you through your UA-cam material.
Sounds like you guys finally sorted out the room sound, mics, etc. This is the first episode in the new space where the guitars sound natural to my ears. Well done. And for the record, my vote goes for you guys talking about and demoing whatever the hell floats your boat...guitars, pedals, amps, microphones, favorite beers, whatever. 👍
Todd Pafford I for one would love to see them review some beer 🤣
Hey guys, Wow what an episode, blew my mine. This episode mic really cam into his own. The best playing from mic on tps. Thank you so much taking on board last week comments from me. Cheers from straya
Devy on the show might make my head explode, full disclosure
Love the amp talk along with the pedal descriptions ,its essential .(even guitars and pick ups). Only rookies that don't know will disagree . Took me years to figure out "my tone" is a Super/Bassman ,and I have a whole different board than I use to . Love what you guys do ,thankyou .
Lovely tones in the new place, lovely amps, lovely listening, lovely job, cheers :)
Oh man that Gretsch sounds heavenly! Just got myself a Electromatic 5420t, love it!
Love the sound of amps humming in the background
You are aces high guys, period. Thank you
You should make an episode about how to make 2 guitars playing together sound separated on the mix, yet complimenting each other. I play on a 2 guitar player band and i would be really thrilled to know your viewpoint on that!
I’m always fascinated by this question. Mick here. The way I’ve always done it is to:
1) Make sure you’re playing different things to suit the song. Like Angus and Malcolm.
2) Play different guitars and different amps.
3) Stay out of the bass player’s way.
Never needed to do anything more than that!
Is there a more specific problem we could address?
I would be very interested in how to make two guitars with different amounts of overdrive sound good together, or if there is anything to keep in mind when going for that kind of sound.
That Pedal Show ohh, senpai noticed me! Hi Mick! You made my day even better!
I never really had issues cutting through the mix since i started taking my tone seriously. We are using pretty different beasts tone wise (JCM800 + klone + yamaha sf1000 vs Rockerverb + OD808 + Jackson Superstrat), so each one quite have our space, yet i'd like to know more about how 2 guitar players could optimize the guitar bandwith while still making easy for the average listener to differentiate what each one is playing. Maybe different eq curves, types of clipping, modulation... more specific/technical themes that the average guitar player should keep an eye on.
Glad you answered, and since i've never had the chance before, thanks a lot for the show!
Both of you, have a nice day!
David Comesaña González Hav done that, lp/marshall 800,,,strat/fender super reverb ,that combination just worked.
David Comesaña González EQ is your best friend in that situation, and hopefully, you each play different types of rigs: Les Pauls and Teles/Strats sound great together. It’s worth a practice session to each carve out your part of the “harmonic sidewalk.”
I can't get enough of your show guys! Well done!
Dual amps sound magic. Another great episode of quality gear, guitars, and D&M. Well done lads
Greuter is the one to watch, a Greuter Vibe graces my pedalboard!! to die for!!!
Super well organized video, I love the shortcuts you put in, great touch
Loved Dan's cheeky Outshined riff @ 42:40!
Man how I absolutely love this show boys. As I sit here watching, I slipped off into a daydream of what ifs, like what if, just imagine, that pedal show with Dan and Mick, featuring Andy from reverb, mike Hermans and jayleonardjay. Pedal heaven!!
You guys always inspire me so much to go pick up my guitar. Thank you!
Love how the harmonics/ high frequencies really come through the audio when Dan plays the gretsch. Sounds huge 👍
Oh yesss, that Rabbit Deluxe is insane! I'll have to get one now...
The new tone shack and set up sounds great. I'm really happy for you guys. You're killing it !!
Awesome intro playing Mick. Loved it.
Thank you!
Mick - pulling some shiny new licks out of the bag! Didn't go unnoticed.
1. I loved this episode 2. The Aria sounded killer 3. I love Dan’s Gretsch more than life itself
sounding MEGA in the intro!!! Crazy crazy good sounds
Gosh the sound is SO GOOD with this setup! Congrats :p
I just impulse bought an Aria yesterday morning! You just made me all the more keen for it to arrive
FWIW, I like that pedal show regardless of what you guys talk about. The information has never been irrelevant.
You boys did it to me again, String Slinger, Gotta have one, Thanks
I love the variability you guys have delved into, but the ones where you just rock a bunch of dirt boxes end up being my favorite. Old skool!
Yeah baby!
I just wanted to voice my approval of That Pedal Show evolving to the point where you guys cover all the other aspects of the guitar sound. As we've learned along the way, everything affects the way pedals sound, including the environment. Cheers to you guys geeking out over reflective panels!
Thank you Jared. Part of the point of doing this right from the start was to get people to understand that, in the words of Mike Analogman, everything matters. Everything! Cheers!
Those SRV riffs sound killer! Go Mick! 🤘
Free the Tone! Have these two and the Red Jasper. They are amazing!
Yes!! These are the type of videos I love. Basically, I just want y'all to tell me where to throw my money! LOL. Would love to see some videos featuring Old Blood Noise Endeavors pedals. Their stuff is very unique. Thanks!
Mick, that was the best I have ever heard you plaY!..GREAT JOB!1
Wow. Thanks James!
Hey guys- thanks for demoing the new Keeley Aria! I was interested in hearing that one. Man, those free the tone pedals sounds fabulous.
Love, love the Greer. Got it recently and it really is beautiful.
Love the LightSpeed! I also LOVE my Tim Jauernig Original Gristle King OD....A supreme overdrive pedal IMHO
I was feeling the exaaaact thing Dan opened up with - glad this episode is focused on PEDALS!
Devin Townsend on the show? Now that's gonna be a massive dream come true for me. Cheers!
You two must have among the best jobs on earth 😀 getting some excellent tones as always.
Ha, if only it was a job Sam! We have a very privileged hobby that’s for sure! :0)
Really dig both of those Free The Tone pedals!
Well, Dan was really freeing the tone with that Lester goodness. And Mick´s SRV licks...
I got tickets to see Matt Schofield in ny in August. I'd heard if him before, but the interest comes mostly from seeing him here on that pedal show. Looking forward to it.
Wierd, I go from recommending the Aria to a mate and then this (the Aria section) starts playing literally 2 minutes later.
I have his Red Dirt Studio Deluxe version of the Aria. Drive side is Red Dirt with germanium/silicon toggle. The regular Aria has Red Dirt (si) and White Sands as the gain pedals he based the drive side on, with a Katana boost circuit "sandwiching" both pedals. I almost prefer the White Sands to the si Red Dirt in mine. But that germanium Red Dirt - mein gott!!!!
I adore my RDSD and will take it to my grave. Bravo, Mr. Keeley, and thanks D&M for making Friday nights the best. Cheers.
The recording sounds way nicer guys! Awesome job!
OMG!!! Can't Wait For DEVIN!!!!!!
Mick- you shouldn't ever apologize for playing that Mayer tune-its the perfect 4th position toggle test!
As a guitarist who uses synths and non guitar effects units as part of my sound, I love the videos you guys do on stuff that isn't pedals just as much as the pedal videos! I mean, I've been eyeing up an RE-201 for years now, found soundgas through that, and i cant wait til i can afford to get one! Love the show, and keep up the excellent work, no matter what you're playing through :)
All great. But those Free the Tone pedals had some amazing sounds!
Stick to only pedals? Nah.. That would get stale pretty quickly. In the beginning sure, it made sense. TPS hammered out the important topics that needed to be explained to the general guitar community such as pedal placement, types of circuits, etc. However, now that the show has grown into this mega beast we all know and love it only makes sense to include other topics.
Personally, my favorite episodes (by FAR) are the pedal board builds and the behind the scenes videos such as last year's "How do we make TPS" and the recent episodes showing the relocation into the new place. Those are the ones that I find myself re-watching several times because I end up drowning out the video with my own noise due to inspiration. I don't think I'm the only one who enjoys the journey more than the destination;) Keep that type of content coming, please!
That is wonderful feedback. Thank you Jordan! We’re doing everything we can to continue in that style. Hooray! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I am very happy as an owner of the Aria and the lightspeed. I however rarely play the compressor alone, and vastly prefer the White Sands Lux Drive over the Red Dirt ie TS in it. The lightspeed is breathtakingly brilliant! And just stacks so well with every other pedal and amp I own!
Outshined. 💪🏻
Uh Dan, When you chunked along on that Gretsch with the Aria kicked in, the tone was incredible! That guitar is perfection. I actually stopped the video to write this comment and tell you that. I could live with that tone all day long. I’m looking forward to hearing what you two monsters do with the Greer Lightspeed. Nick is one of the nicest guys in the business, he makes some fine ass gear, and his incredible devices deserve to be heard in the proper way that you guys review them. Thank you for these incredibly informative and always enjoyable shows. You guys are awesome.
Ah, cheers Matt. Yep, that Gretsch is a truly amazing instrument ;)
One of the best low gainers out there that has stood the test of time: Rockett Blue Note OD, Pro Series V2.
Greer lightspeed w the Tele sounded so open and cool!! SO what ive been searching for!!!!
The most open, natural sounding drive pedal I have is
Greenchild Mr Boost
Ive tried dozens, sold em all... thank u for your hard work. Gotta try a Greer w my rig
Right off the bat, I knew I was listening to something special - that clear pick attack on the Strat is what most Strat players are always looking for :-)
Nice sound garden lick thrown in there!
bought a Greuter Fuller Drive after watching the last show,
it sounded pretty versatile & seemed to like all the guitars you guys put thru it, nice work,
I thank you & Sascha thanks you.
Wow. sounded great from start to finish.
Nice les paul by the way Dan .
Yeah, she’s a beaut :)
Might be my favorite tps vid?? Maybe?? Definitely some of my favorite dirt tones. Need them free the tone pedals desperately!
That string slinger sounded killer, definitely on my radar now
I didn't wanna be the guy to say it, but happy to see more pedals. I've spent enough on tape delays and vintage effects.
Man!! Mick that opening was bad ass!! I’m new to the channel and have been cramming past episodes for the last couple of weeks and I have to say you guys are awesome! Keep on doin what ya doin!
Hey Bret, thank you sir! Great to have you on board!
I really appreciate that the thumbnail and video title often provide complementary information. Small thing, but I thought I'd show my appreciation. Great show, boys!
Thank you Logan. All part of the service sir!
Devy on TPS? Yes!!!
Dan soloing with the Lester with the FTT Fire Mist is Cream or Deep Purple all day! It's that chewy top end. So good!
Don't feel bad about doing shows that aren't directly pedal related...some of those have actually been some of my favorite!
Mine too. Mick here. And Dan’s - context is everything!
You say reminiscent of the Hudson Broadcast and I'm hugely interested. So I'm looking forward to more White Rabbit.
Liked this episode a lot guys!
I'm amazed.. I've been watching you guys since you were on the gigrig channel... And you are the only guitarists on youtube whom playing never bores me. Amazing
Wow. That is amazing! I bore myself within about three minutes. Mick here. :0)
The Greuter pedals are so good. Fuller drive and Vibe best what you can buy.
Pettyjohn gold is an excellent plexi-style pedal with an eq that will let you do whatever you want, meaning it will fit any combo of amps and guitars. It has clarity and bite in a combination I had never experienced before, especially on the lower scale of dirt. Their fuze (dist/fuzz with parallel mix) is also worth a spin for different textures of grit.
Love the Firemist!
The Pedal Show could be solely about overdrive boxes every week and I'd still watch. Maybe even more than I do right now.
41:02 click this timestamp a few times for a chuckle... Thanks Mick (and FTT and Gibson)!
Rob Flax I was waiting for this one :D
The mention of Devin Townsend appearing on TPS made my week!
So glad you brought out the Gretsch! I just got a Vintage Select Duo Jet with the T-Armond pickups and I'm loving it! I think one of you guys should get a Duo Jet
I would LOVE a Duo Jet. Mick here. :0)
I've liked the times I have heard you play a Gretsch. I've a fondness for Gretsch, years of The Cramps.
I just entered the Gretsch world via the "cheaper" Streamliner (I live in Australia, new guitars are not cheap, ever). It's awesome, like a Gretschy-Gibson or a Gibsony-Gretsch. (Blues-Jazz/Jazz-Blues)
Chet you need potassium and to stay hydrated.
Hmmm, Bananas and Water it is... and POISON IVY!
Great opening from mick. And now it's off to work.
Have a great day!
Cheers!!
Mick is ripping it on the strat. Can't get enough of that light OD-marmelade.
Ahhhh man I just listened to that Lenny K song this morning. Killer riff.
Big fan of Greer (although I have mislaid my Lightspeed) the “Pork and Beans" is great when you’re traveling without an amp - it’s like a dummy/pacifier for me. Keeley is another one that just suits me - I could use the complete selection of his pedals - so hearing the Aria (for the first time on here) and it is another one. It’s funny how one really likes a particular brand of pedals, I guess it’s because Nick and Robert just like the same guitar sounds as me. Thanks guys, Pete.
Free the Tone sounds incredible ! I hope you guys get a Revival Drive soon!!
