have the Sweet Cream, smooth also with others; DOD and Greer and Dude....mmhhh; for the pricy ones (still under 200€)I just ordered two MI AUDIO ones: Super Blues Pro & Cross Over (( 150€ & 190€)); I think theyre much more versatile than the expensive ones here..., Cheers; K : )
I've been subscribed to this channel for bout a year give or take Pete is so well rounded it's crazy I from southern Indiana US ...who would have thought a Danish guy could play the blues like this
In my opinion when they tried each pedal by itself, it did not let me know much. But once Pete played each pedal along with the backing loop, then the pedals began to come alive and I could judge them better. I always find it that sometimes pedals, guitars and amps sound one way by themselves and at times very unexciting. But when played with other instruments or in a band setting at decent volumes they come alive and I can hear how good they are. For me out of the five the Looking Glass, Tone City and Light speed sounded the best. Just my opinion and nothing more. Cheers.
I like seeing how much trial and error went into this. I also like that it was fast forward time lapse style so I didn't have to sit through the struggle! Love it
Parts 1 and 2 of this extravaganza were both brilliant and much appreciated, Gents! I loved hearing all these pedals one right after another, because I think it makes them far easier to compare. I only wish we could've heard one of you solo on the Les Paul afterwards, because the difference between the two guitars playing the same pedals was immense. I picked out my personal fave of the bunch for Pete's Strat (the Lightspeed), but I was less sure about the Les Paul. So I'd vote for at least a brief revisit of the same five pedals with The Paul. Thanks again!
They all sounded good. I use The Dude pedal a lot and really like it. I know these pedals don't fit the criteria for this video, but I use a Green Rhino and my current favorite --- the Mick side of the D & M for my bluesy stuff. They both really sound great with my gear, but the D & M sounds best. Lots of fun. Thanks, guys!
Hi. Without being (wholly) self serving, a show on pairing overdrives with Vox AC amps would benefit many I feel. Vox AC style amps are reputed to be very hard to pair with overdrives, and many come unstuck here. It would be great to hear your collective experience applied to choices of overdrives to pair with Vox AC amps, both normal and, especially, top boost channels (since some models only come with top boost circuitry). Even your friends at That Pedal Show I think neglected to mention whether using the top boost or not when they did the five modern ODs into three amps episode. Sorry for posting twice. I posted again here when I realised it felt more like the 'main' video for this series / idea. Thanks again for all the hard work.
Dean Johnston I second this, almost no one uses vox ac15 for pedal videos and considering that's one of the most popular amps tons of people aren't getting any info on how a pedal will sound
Thanks for the replies. Yes, those few videos featuring the Vox AC that I can find tend to be both poor in sound quality and with no mention of which channel they are using. With someone like the Anderton’s crew (or That pedal Show team), you have the possibility of not only well recorded sound, but also the meaningful opinions of people who have a far vaster range of amp / pedal experience than most. It would be cool.
Gosh I love commenting on older Andertons videos. The musical goodness compels me, maybe a little like the dark side of the force. May the musical force be with you all. I know I could use some.
I own the J Rocket Dude and Sweet Cream as well as the J Rocket Archer... I finally got rid of my Sweet Cream pedal though.. it was a pretty good boost/ light over drive, but compared to the Archer or the Dude it just didn't hold up. The Dude is very versatile.. it can get a compressed sound or nice mids or a good beefy low end boost and it has a ton of volume boost if needed. I personally stack my Archer into the Dude.... that sounds amazing. J Rocket is making some really great stuff.
I'm glad he didn't spill his coffee on that pretty rug! Me? I just plug into the amp, and that is the sound I love (and mate')! (I do fancy footing on my Vox wha-wha occasionally, and am probably better at that than playing guitar, which isn't saying much, and I admit to having a Vintage 47 clean-boost, but I NEVER use it - usually, and also a fine little Xotic compressor, supposedly to help me sound like Lowell George on slide, but again I NEVER use it - usually....and in the past I went through a few pedals, but never used them - usually. Just plug straight in and get those power tubes cooking, with just a touch of overdrive - no preamp distortion...or PEDALS - usually)
I live in Thailand and can confirm that for £39.99 you can in fact have a much better time than playing a Tone City pedal. Lee, if you ever fancy a holiday in Bangkok, I'll show you around!
For the money the Sweet Cream is excellent, when I heard the Dude I was like that has to be the best, then I hear the BB and I'm like that sounds amazing hands down the winner and Pete and Lee are like yeah don't really like that one :D
I actually ordered the J Rockett the DUDE ( V2), and two of Tone City Sweet Creams..., from thatpedal show , well inspired by the show I ordered a n MI Audio Super Blues Pro( latest version with all those clipping options), and all by myself I have an MI Audio Cross Over (v2) ordered..., overdrives for life...
when my Sweet Creams arrive Im gonna pair one with JOYO Am Sound( that has bass control) and TC El MojoMojo...; especially the Mojo is super touch sensitive as is the Sweet Cream...
on the solo at the end I actually thought the sweet cream sounded best surprisingly as it's by far the cheapest, but when they were playing them on their own I liked the lightspeed best
Curious if Lee has tried the Jackson Audio Prism... this pedal really sweetens the entire rig. there is nothing quite like it. ive tried everything from a Bondi Effects Del Mar to an Emerson Custom Paramount and a few other Klon-style transparent overdrives, but the Prism just works wonders, especially functioning just as a preamp/clean boost. not sure how he did it but Brad Jackson definitely came up with something very special
Looking glass and the dude sound the best to me but sweet cream certainly holds its own and is ridiculous value! Then again Pete makes everything sound awesome!
Love the Captain! We r very similar in how we chop up the 6. Not gonna lie, I think Pete is a lil stronger at running the pedals and exacting the levels from each pedal. Pete seems to have an ear for od pedal sweet spots. Love you Captain! Pete, run those knobs when LA plays so we can use ur ear!,,,
Funny thing, until started watching all these videos on UA-cam telling me what "Blues Tone" was I never heavily associated this type of tone specifically with blues.
I love my BB Preamp MB, best overall drive sound for my money. I have a Rumble Drive that I put after it in the chain, and set them at low-ish gain, so that I can use the BB for the "laid back blues" sound, and then kick in the Mooer for more of a thick, creamy lead tone, great for both 'buckers and SS. And since I know the Mooer Rumble Drive is sorta Zen Drive-ish, and the Dude is also supposed to be somewhere in the ballpark or thereabouts, I wonder how the BB and Dude would sound together...
No disrespect to Chapman, but it’s real refreshing to hear someone else play and review gear on this channel. Pete is an awesome guitar player!
you mean someone who doesn't just grab the highest output humbuckers he can find and cranks every gain knob in sight to 11 and shreds!?
Agreed. Pete is a way more versatile player. I can’t tell what’s good and what’s bad when Rob plays because it’s all gained out the ass
Chapman makes everything sound the same.
chappers will never recover
Just for my own future reference:
Tone City Sweet Cream 4:50
DOD Looking Glass 6:48
Greer Lightspeed 9:03
J Rockett Dude 10:47
Xotic BB Pre 13:38
have the Sweet Cream, smooth also with others; DOD and Greer and Dude....mmhhh; for the pricy ones (still under 200€)I just ordered two MI AUDIO ones: Super Blues Pro & Cross Over (( 150€ & 190€)); I think theyre much more versatile than the expensive ones here..., Cheers; K : )
hello kitty, the DUDE seems versatile!
16:03 One mans…
DOD is cheap junk!!!!!!
Do we need to say this again... "Captain Meets - Danish Pete". Your viewers have spoken... stand and deliver!
still got my 2 Looking Glasses: FET-transisters, touch sensitivity, endless EQ. utmost versatility!after darker Jazzy tones brings classy finesse to the tone!
Glad to see another blues player at Andertons. We need more of Danish Pete and the Captain
Please let this be a long-running series on Andertons! You two are my two favorite people on the channel.
yeah Chappers is really starting to grate
I've been subscribed to this channel for bout a year give or take Pete is so well rounded it's crazy I from southern Indiana US ...who would have thought a Danish guy could play the blues like this
I love my Sweet Cream pedal. Probably my favorite in the Tone City line. That being said, I really dug the sound of the Looking Glass.
Mad Prof Simble to Sweet Cream: dynamic and bluesy, to Trex Diva... jazzy too
Pete you are one of the tastiest most soulful guitar players out there
In my opinion when they tried each pedal by itself, it did not let me know much. But once Pete played each pedal along with the backing loop, then the pedals began to come alive and I could judge them better. I always find it that sometimes pedals, guitars and amps sound one way by themselves and at times very unexciting. For me out of the five the Looking Glass, Tone City and Light speed sounded the best. Just my opinion and nothing more. Cheers.
Pete is such a great player, I could listen to him all day. And Lee just gets better with every video
Dude that looking glass pedal is just amazing one of the best pure sounding tone ive ever heard from a pedal woe just wow thats just simply amazing
Man...for the money its so hard to argue with the Sweet Cream. That thing just makes amps sparkle!
I like seeing how much trial and error went into this. I also like that it was fast forward time lapse style so I didn't have to sit through the struggle! Love it
that Xotic BB just sounds right everytime - industry standard for bluesbreaker amp tone in a box IMO
I really really REALLY need that Looking Glass. Every time Pete uses one, I remember that I need it.
Pete's on fire with that jam at the end
They all sounded good. I use The Dude pedal a lot and really like it. I know these pedals don't fit the criteria for this video, but I use a Green Rhino and my current favorite --- the Mick side of the D & M for my bluesy stuff. They both really sound great with my gear, but the D & M sounds best. Dean Johnston yes!! I've actually commented on That pedal show requesting they use Vox more
Gosh I love commenting on older Andertons videos. The musical goodness compels me, maybe a little like the dark side of the force. May the musical force be with you all. I know I could use some.
Thank you for the heaps of effort that went into this video.
light speed + the Les Paul is magical tone. cheers from The Ghosts in Aus!
Also liked The Dude with the strat
You guys!!!! I now want to go dig out my old BB, but the other four I need them
I was hoping the Xotic BB was going to make it on to the list! One of my favorite OD pedals!
The best Andertons video I’ve ever seen. This was amazing, you two are a fantastic team, and this is a great series!
Great team to do this review!! So appreciated.
Thank you 😊
Can't even get past 00:15 without the Lolz
I demand more of Pete.
All the pedals sound great, because Pete and his magic fingers on that Strat made them sound great.
I concur with Pete - Inputs should always be on top
...but the inputs should never be board mounted - mount them to the enclosure please so that the board does not break, and they will break eventually.
I'd love to see an Echoplex preamp shootout between the EP booster, the new MXR mini booster, and the Echoplex preamp pedal.
Dod Preamp 250! Beautiful simple and very affordable pedal!
"If this video gets lots of thumbs ups we'll do another one"
*Smashes thumbs up*
The Sweet Cream sounds great for the money but have to say that the Lightspeed sounded great with both the Strat and the LP
I own the J Rocket Dude and Sweet Cream as well as the J Rocket Archer... I finally got rid of my Sweet Cream pedal though.. it was a pretty good boost/ light over drive, but compared to the Archer or the Dude it just didn't hold up. Too bad I can only give this vid one thumbs up. Damn, Pete can play...

I live in Thailand and can confirm that for £39.99 you can in fact have a much better time than playing a Tone City pedal. Lee, if you ever fancy a holiday in Bangkok, I'll show you around!
benzakonium I don’t think the captain wants to get stabbed and stds all in one day, I’m not racist im just Thai and know how we are
No Boss Blues Driver!!! I'm gutted I love that pedal
Pete's like my favorite person
lovin the captain and pete combo
For blues the full tone OCD is pretty dope. I have one and it's dope, through a Fender Tweed amp you can get some pretty Hendrix-y tones
For me the xotic and the looking glass are the best!
light speed is the best imo. I can understand why Pete likes it so much.
0:35 Korg Miku - Perfect for blues solos! ;)
I couldn’t hear the pedals over that BEAUTIFUL Les Paul. Holy honeyburst, Batman. That is a looker!
I'd love to see a "Fuzzes for Blues" Shootout!!!! I've tried two (MXR La machine and Big Muff) and somehow, they are too brutal most of the time...
I liked the looking glass and the BB pedal best
They all sound good but i reckon still nothing beats the classic tube screamer mini for price and sound.
Huuuuge improvement in the lead Lee! Getting better every time tune in..
Gotta love the banjo intro!
I've has the Sweet Cream for a month and I love it.
I loved this type of video. Would love to see more content like this
Sweet cream, looking glass, and dude are my choices for dual humbuckers
LookingGlass followed by the BB then Dude ,Looking glass is a brilliant OD, all of them were nice though
Wonderful demo guys. Thanks!
For the money the Sweet Cream is excellent, when I heard the Dude I was like that has to be the best, then I hear the BB and I'm like that sounds amazing hands down the winner and Pete and Lee are like yeah don't really like that one :D
I will definitely purchase the looking glass.
I love my Sweet Cream pedal. In fact, all of my Tone City pedals.
This video is everything I've ever wanted to see, but more.
Would love to see this for other genres
Sweet cream is honestly my favorite. The cheapest one up there.
We need this for every genre...
Loved the banjo pickin'!
I need a 10hr version of petes closing jam
To be honest, my favourite is the Sweat Cream.I also like the Looking Glass.
The best blues tone ive ever heard was Bernie Marsden. His PRS se in to a PRS amp. No pedals at all but the sound was to die for
He sounded awesome with a LP into a Marshall, too. All in the fingers for that guy, I thnk.
Those PRS amps sound like pants. I can't even stand listening to Meyer anymore :/
I'd love to see something like this for fuzzes
Adamnme01 Yep!
yeah man!!!!! fuzzes!!!
These vids are always killer thanks guys
I actually ordered the J Rockett the DUDE ( V2), and two of Tone City Sweet Creams..., from thatpedal show , well inspired by the show I ordered a n MI Audio Super Blues Pro( latest version with all those clipping options), and all by myself I have an MI Audio Cross Over (v2) ordered..., overdrives for life...
I see the Nobel ODR-1 was on your list, but the Dude does the same thing...
when my Sweet Creams arrive Im gonna pair one with JOYO Am Sound( that has bass control) and TC El MojoMojo...; especially the Mojo is super touch sensitive as is the Sweet Cream...
These guys could make any pedal, or no pedal at all, sound great. But I gotta vote for the Dude, too.
on the solo at the end I actually thought the sweet cream sounded best surprisingly as it's by far the cheapest, but when they were playing them on their own I liked the lightspeed best
This has my favorite film clip for listening to banjo music.
Sweet cream sounded surprisingly good
fantastic job guys. Thanks
Looking Glass
Def do the rest of the types.
Great idea! Keep this!
Honestly curious why I never see the MXR M77 mentioned? I know there are a bazillion ODs out there, but this one is special.
Corster was wondering same thing it's a great overdrive pedal and not a lot of $$$.
Great concept lee! i think a high gain list will hit a huge part of your audience as well
i use a mufulletta into a bd2 into a metal zone for dirty, jive-y blues... quite like it. cheers
Pete, run those knobs when LA plays so we can use ur ear!,,,
14:53...??? Because he can!
the 8th deadly sin!!
Epic stuff, bring on the long episode with the 40 pedals!
Looking Glass and The Dude tie for me.
Awesome video and great idea, hope more like this come soon!
Funny thing, until started watching all these videos on UA-cam telling me what "Blues Tone" was I never heavily associated this type of tone specifically with blues.

And since I know the Mooer Rumble Drive is sorta Zen Drive-ish, and the Dude is also supposed to be somewhere in the ballpark or thereabouts, I wonder how the BB and Dude would sound together...
update: Sweet Cream is on my board, for clearcut balanced sound, very good for tuning a strat neck pup...
New found respect for Lee's guitar skills :)
Fast forward to 2:51
How about your favorite boost pedal in front of the 5 favorite blues pedals or stacking the best 2 of 5?
One, Two, Five!
Three sir
Three!
Get Rabea in and do it for prog metal/djent
That's easy. You just need five metalzones in a row.
Don't forget a DS-1 and a NS-2 at the back
He kind of already did that on That Pedal Show
I'm pretty surprised not to see the Plimsoul out there considering how much the Captain uses it.
Cullen James it's not really a light/mild bluesy overdrive.
Lee loves the Plimsoul but it was too gainy for this video..
Fair enough.
Is Mick still doing videos for Andertons? I hope so
Would love to see one of these vids for fuzz pedals!
