This is basically a protest chant in song form. It was written around the time of Rodney King and LA riots. Lyrically it's their simplest song, but packs a powerful message.
My son made me listen to this album and read the lyrics. Masterpiece. Got me all riled up and ready for revolution. Lol
Tom Morello is one of the bravest guitarists I've heard since EVH, the guy throws down such odd guitar solos with utmost confidence and style, their live concert footage is so cool, they threw down the gauntlet live and the audience were always going off
RATM have lots of good songs. I'd recommend "Down rodeo", "Renegades of funk" and "Take the power back".
Take the Power Back was the 1st video they did. They also did Bulls On Parade.
Yeah man. Their entire 1st album was great. Remember thrashing it in my teens. How good was 90s music
calm like a bomb is also a classic
PLEASE do "Know your enemy" by this band. So many great songs but that's a must.
I second this! Absolute banger as well!
Yep!!!
I Was So Lucky To Grow Up On RAGE!!!
Rage again the machine -Down Rodeo : works well in all reaction channels
Also check out "Sleep Now In The Fire" and "Bullet In The Head".
The best thing about Rage is that their songs are always relevant.
The saddest thing about Rage is that their songs are always relevant.
Saw this exact same truthful comment in another vid, but it’s golden and hurts each time cuz of how truthful it really is.
I'd say the saddest thing is that these days you can find them shilling for the machine
@@richardcranium5048 are they not still avowed socialist progressives who hate racism and bigotry? They were last time I checked.
@@MainlyHuman no there just some cucks pushing commie propaganda, and (not that there's much difference) experimental jabs. Yep it's a crying shame Shilling For the Machine
Rage and lead singer Zack De LaRoche had eye opening messages, geared toward civil rights and political activism.
Crap.
controlled opposition
Calm like a Bomb great Rage song !
Just wrote the same, good choice😁
Love it!!!
The cover features a crop of Malcolm Browne' famous photograph of the self-immolation of Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, in Saigon in 1963. The monk was protesting President Ngô Đình Diệm's administration for oppressing the Buddhist religion.
There’s a live version of this song performed on BBC Radio where they were asked to leave out the “F**k you I won’t do what they tell me” lines. It’s definitely worth checking out….cuz you know they didn’t listen!
"Know your Enemy" is my favorite if you haven't done it yet it is worth it.
Your right, they have no filter, say it like it is, over and over until you get it/hear it. 💯
Great Reaction I Will always love Rage🔥
He’s also throwing in “now you do what they taught you” and “now you do what they torture” if you listen close to the end of that part.
My favourite rock band
The line those that those who run forces was supposed to be those that hold office. But the parent group to epic records was like hold up can we do something a bit less lol
This was written in response to the Rodney King beating done by the LAPD in the 90s and the riots that followed.
Original lyric was, 'Some of those in Office' but their label made them change it
that doesn't sound right. Firstly because RAtM are not exactly the type to change lyrics because of a label. Secondly, because the whole rest of the lyrics is about institutionalised racism in the police forces. Thirdly because office doesn't really rhyme with crosses. Fourthly because I've seen a recording of one of their first shows at some US university campus and I don't recall this song having different lyrics.
@@mpmlopes RATM themselves have used 'Office' on their Twitter
@@princeofpcos9804 Yes, but that was retroactively and because the US president at the time was openly racist.
Oh man you guys definitely need to check out rage against the machine
" fistful of steal " and " bullet to the head " LIVE!! 1993
Keep Ragin’. Check out Mic Check, Know Your Enemy.
This is Zack de la Rocha, the GOAT👊🏽😃
The smile on your face when he said "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" is when we all felt it. You held back. Listen to it before you hit the gym, hits different
Breathe of fresh air when young folks appreciate something with substance
Ride that Rage!
Zakk never holds back on what he’s trying to say, and there’s always a message in every single line, spit with venom
He’s far from one of the greatest singers ever, but the impact he has with every word raises him to the top. He brings a message, and makes sure it’s heard
Down Rodeo, Mic Check, Vietnow, Darkness, Know Your Enemy, Take the Power Back... all with lyrics.
The Best thing about Rage is that their songs are still relevant today. The Worst thing about Rage is that their songs are still relevant today.
Gotta do "Know Your Enemy" with lyrics. Powerful shit, with BARS. This song you reacted to, is meant to drive one point in your head, so it is repeated. Their other songs are much more lyrically extensive.
Love this song. Still very relevant now
Lollapalooza they were headline band and when they played this song... OMG, the whole standing section was a giant mosh pit.
It'll always be relevant.
I love that you got the message that you need to do Lyric videos with RatM just in time to do literally the only song by them where you don't need to look at the lyrics.
But yes, every other song, lyrics are a must.
Damn! Y’all should have done the live one at Woodstock’99 to get how powerful this group is. I believe I even left y’all the link to it. Damn!
their manager or label head wanted them to change their message in their music, so in the music video you see the singer at the end of the song flipping him off and singing "fuck you! I won't do what you tell me!". was a great instance of staying true to the message.
No group blends rock and rap better than RATM.Tom Marcello is an activists , speaks on several issues. As his mother does/did. Watch his and his mothers back story.Best I've seen.I absolutely adore Tom Marcello. What a man!!
*Morello
They were protesting police brutality way before it was “cool”.
Love you guys! Shout out from Brazil! 🇧🇷
Other RATM songs you guys should react to:
*Bulls On Parade*
*Take The Power Back*
*Down Rodeo*
*Testify*
*Darkness Of Greed*
*Guerilla Radio*
*Sleep Now In The Fire*
*Bullet In The Head*
*Settle For Nothing*
*Know Your Enemy*
*Freedom*
*No Shelter*
Another one GREAT of theirs from this same album is "Who's the King?"...who's the king who heyyyy?
they are one of the greatest, their style is unique , i wish i could have seen them live.
Wake Up by RATM is a favorite.
You should (If you haven't already) Check out their songs Freedom, Testify, and Wake Up. They are truly a thinking man's agressive music.
His dad was an activist .. also .. pocket full of shells good song too
Also Bruce Springsteen was a pop/rock singer from I think Chicago. He wrote a song about poverty called The Ghost of Tom Joad. RAtM covered it in explosive style, and so 20 or so years later he played it live in a vocal/lead-guitar duet with none other than Tom #Morello!
Great reaction guys. If you enjoy RATM and these lyrics, I would very highly recommend you check out Down Rodeo by them. More of the same, but taken up a few notches lol. It's a big favorite for reactors. Also, along the same lines you might want to check Know Your Rights by The Clash✌
IMO, Down Rodeo is the ultimate Rage song... It combines every element that made the band great.
The first time I heard this song back in the 1900's was at a strip bar in Sudbury called Solid Gold...this track plus the beautiful girl choosing it as her song to dance to....mind blown!...especially after a few sips of wobbly pop.
🤘🔥RAGE🔥🤘ROCKS!!!!
Check out Zach's side band from a number of years ago: One Day As a Lion - Wild International
Rage's simplest & maybe most powerful songs that, sadly, is just as accurate 30 years later. And probably 60 years later.
❤️ Zack. Check them out in the video when they performed at Pink Pop.
More rage. All bangers with a message.
A lot of people weren't ready to hear RATM 30 years ago, but they said what they had to say anyway...
I would say try watching a live performance like the ones at Pink pop festival, Bullet in the head and Fist full of steel are 2 great ones too see and have the lyrics pulled up on your phone. Got to catch all the greatness!❤🍀
^^^THIS^^^
He's talking about cops and politicians...those in control. This song came out arpund the time of the LA Riots in 92, the same year I went into highschool...
The one song where you could be in restaurant or at a wedding and if this song comes on, a mosh pit breaks out
The Rage is relentless!)
My favorite is "Know your Enemy" fire.
Down Rodeo, The Ghost of Tom Joad (cover of a Bruce Springsteen song), Know Your Enemy (cameo from the singer from Tool), and Renegades of funk
You must check RATM live.! Cheers, from italy
Watch the live performance at Pink Pop ‘93. OUTSTANDING live band. You won’t be disappointed. You get to see Zack in his prime. He was a force!
Go down this rabbit hole. Happy Easter down this rabbit hole!!
Tom the guitarist wrote this song while he was teaching a class
Their 1993 PinkPop festival performance is wayyyy better.
"Freedom"...one of the most overlooked but important songs by them. The official video for it is a story itself. Really u can't go wrong with any RATM song
Now imagine that at a festival with thousands of people yelling f you i won't do what you tell me. Something you will never forget
your smiles at the end were absolutely fantastic. watch those moments when your feeling shitty. lol
RAGE!!!! Phenomenal band man.
One thing I respect about you very much, is the fact that you look up info on the spot. I hope that's your routine. If that becomes your habit, you will become a very wise person.
Zach de La Rocha the most underrated MC of all time
Mad love for rockin the SLAYER shirt!🧡🧡
In 2008, Rage had a free show for the DNC in Denver. It was 🔥
All RATM songs are great. But I feel like this song and Bulls on Parade are just at another level of amazing.
Bro you need watch them live concert in 93 I went to it was bad ass
This song was the Christmas number one in the UK in 2009 because.. reasons. The original release in 1993 didn't chart in the US because of lack of airplay. It sold well in Europe, Australia & New Zealand though.
Really wish all the Rage Against The Machines songs weren't still so relevant ✌
Thank you for listening to Rage Against the Machine with lyrics. :) Highly recommend *Down Rodeo* , *Know Your Enemy*, & *Bullet in the Head* to name a few!
Hellz yeahh!! You guys should do Fistfull of steel! 🤩🤩🤩
Your not ready for this.
Most people usually aren’t their first time
Back the Blue til THEY Come for YOU!!!
Im seeing them live in August. Gonna be LIT,LIT!
YAASSS! RATM! I highly recommend TAKE THE POWER BACK and BULLET IN THE HEAD and KNOW YOUR ENEMY. Love you guys! ❤️🤘🏻
2022......Rage for the Machine.
And by saying "some". This song is 100%
funniest shit was my kid bro about in the late 1990s thought it was a mannequin that was on fire on the streets! I told him it was a vietnamese buddhist monk who self immolated as sign of protest the countrys oppresion against Buddhism, the picture is from 1963! kid bro freaked out about that picture upon looking at the mans calmness while burning!
My boyz ..real
Music
One of my favorites!!
You know a reactor is real when they have to adjust their headphones at the beat drop lol
I dont give’s these a lot , but your reaction is , ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ !!!!!!!!!!
Rage covered a very influential 1968 track Kick Out The Jams by the MC5! PLEASE try that Rage song, and maybe listen to the MC5. They pioneered an early type of punk rock, along with Iggy Pop (The Stooges).
One of the early major label songs to say FUCK lol :P Also John Lennon wrote a song for MC5's manager, because he was given 10 years for 2 joints!
My roller blading music. 😁❤️
Got my like already. In a bit 👋
Ustedes eran muy chicos, pero cuando esta canción se estrenó, todo el mundo la cantó.
🤘🤘 RATM is my get hyped cruising in my car music!!!! And live is Bada$$ too!!! 😉❤✌
Y'all should check out VOB doing this live!!! They lay some extra funk seasoning to this song!!! Plus it's killer to see these young ladies in hijab just Rock the eyeballs out of the French audience!!! 😁
Bullet In The Head is probably their most important song, lyrically. Don't skip that one.
Gotta do “freedom” by RATM crazy way to end an album
If you want to listen more to ratm I’d recommend
Bullet in the head
Ashes in the fall
Township rebellion
Wake up
Sleep now in the fire
Need to check out renegades of funk. And their entire 1st album
Been waiting for this one!
Bulls on Parade by these guys is the shtz
