What else should we react to? 🤔 Also if you guys like the song in the intro it’s called 2084 (like Orwell’s 1984). You can stream it on my new album now 🤟 hypeddit.com/knoxhill/butterflyeffect
All ur songs have been 🔥 so far. Awesome job
Do “Down Rodeo” by rage against the machine. I think youd have some fun with the lyricism in that one
I would love to see you breaking down the bars of Childish Gambinos "Freaks and Geeks" or "Bonfire"
Or maybe a reaction to Flowsik
Two songs immediately come to mind
For Metal Mondays: Sonata Arctica - Replica (1999)
For Oldschool German HipHop : Die Fantastischen Vier - Die Da (1992)
Lose yourself scratch version for Mathers day bro I just found this song like an hour ago everything he spit is fire!
The best part about RATM is the lyrics are still relevant. The worst thing about RATM is their lyrics are still relevant.
Facts, sadly!
ALL OF THIS!!!!
Well said 😅😭
It's kinda the worst part of our society. You can't blame RATM for pointing out how we suck as a species.
They're establishment cucks now. Their lyrics have balls, they don't.
Lemme tell you, there is NOTHING like being in the crowd with everyone screaming "F-you, I won't do what you tell me!" all in unison ... goosebumps++++
Lollapalooza at Portland Meadows, 1993. Completely blew my mind. Zac was telling the crowd in between songs that all the merch was a scam by the promoters and that people should not buy RATM shirts, just write the band's name with a marker on a shirt they already owned. So on-brand for the band and such an incredible performance.
the irony 😂
maple leaf gardens, toronto, 1999. RIGHT!?!?!??!
I think “fuck the police” would be pretty much the same
I was there live, in the nosebleed section.I died happy!!🖤🇳🇱
13:06 - the single greatest use of the word motherfucker in music history, you can just feel the anger in his voice, it's like he just NEEDED to get that word out of his system
One of my fave RATM moments is when people in the UK were so sick of the X-Factor winning song being requested on the radio that they called in droves to request this song. And won. Brilliant.
Yup. We did. We actually created a resurgence and made it Xmas Number 1 in 2009.
So many people bought a copy that it got Christmas number 1 and they swore on live TV 😂 two big things back then
On top of that, the resurgence also got them invited to do a live performance of it on the radio where they were asked to censor the last segment, so Zack just left a pause where the 'fuck you' normally goes... for the first three repeats of the line, before singing it uncensored... because fuck you I won't do what you tell me.
Simon Cowell won anyway
It was an awesome moment, Xmas number 1 😂
So glad to be a part of it.
Got so many copies just like I did with Ren when he was after number 1.
The world needs shit like this.
Tom Morello is an absolute guitar legend and a legit Harvard graduate!!!!
Tom is a guitar wizard! His solo’s never get old
Yes he is
Such an unorthodox playing style, love it
I kicked his ass on guitar hero, Tom morello ain't shit lol I did have to turn the difficulty down to medium though.......
@@canadianguy-nl1xw 😂🤣
*solos
They played Ottawa last summer. They sang "some of those that run office are the same that burn crosses". Loved that.
Fun fact: during live performances Zack will sometimes substitute “some of those that work forces, are the same that burn churches” into the main verse
This song goes hard but man it’s depressing how this song continues to be relevant
I've also heard him substitute "some of those who hold office are the same that burn crosses" in the 2nd verse
Yup
He has also used the line “some of those that burn crosses are the same that hold office”
Wow. I really need to get more into this band. I know two songs, I've been listening to them since I was a teen, but this is kinda what I really need right now. Some purpose, or something. To listen to more of the important messages they put out there.
@@Zinetha both u and Knox Hill utube Music Grammy's Rage Against Machine... 👀♥️ Music 🎶
Please do more Rage!!!!!🔥🔥🔥 They are HEAVILY influenced by HIP HOP. Renegades Of Funk, Born Of A Broken Man, Down Rodeo, Wake Up, Bullet In Da Head, Bulls On Parade, Fistful of Steel, Take The Power Back, Freedom..etc. LOTS of 🔥 songs
yes pls! I'd love to watch Knox do all of these
Know Your Enemy
@@thomasfosterjr.5247 yes of course..thank u 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Yeah. I even think Killing in the name is one of their weakest songs.
@@Thequillss I agree
You definitely need to do more Rage. He is a legit rapper with one of the most interesting flows out there and super thought provoking lyrics. Actually kind of shocked that you've done so many Metal Mondays and haven't done more Rage.
The passion he brings is what sets him above the rest for me.
It wasn't uncommon for dude to bring himself to tears during live performances. Shit gives me goosebumps.
I’ve loved them since the beginning. I was a teenager and they were a huge influence in ways that I still am today. 🖤
👏🤩Hoffman you are speaking for me personally and millions of Fans with this comment
AMEN! I was brought on board, when my college roommate lent me Evil Empire, my first live show with them was Wu Tang Opening for them in 97' word cant convey how insane that show was.
One of the single most cathartic experiences of my life was seeing Prophets of Rage perform this at Riot Fest in 2017 (the musicians from Rage + Chuck D and B Real on vocals). Surrounded by thousands of people all jumping and screaming "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" was amazing. The entire weekend was electric. There was so much fresh anger and frustration being vented, and such a feeling of community.
As a laugh check out the short clip when BBC asked rage to play live without swearing. Goes as well as you'd think lol
Seen that. They shouldn't have asked RATM to perform if they didn't want cussing. BBC =DUMBASSES.
I saw Rage live in the late '90s and legitimately could not hear much of anything with my left ear for several days. Unreal concert, incredible band. Just think how much he said with so few lyrics.
It’d be cool to see Tom react to this, cause Knox is nailing every element so effectively
he'd probably be a little annoyed seeing him talk about tom macdonald that grifter
The first time I heard this song was when the venue was playing background music before a NIN concert in 1992. I thought it was the Beastie Boys at first. I had never heard anything like it before! The fact that I still remember that should be an indicator of how powerful RATM is.
Epic
I love the live version from The Battle pf Mexico City, because they change up the second verse to be, "Some of those that burn crosses, are the same that hold office." Which has prpbably always been true post-Civil War. but was especially true back then when Strom Thurmond (a known Klansman) and Jesse Helms (a man who made his name opposing the Civil Rights Act) were still alive and kicking.
This song was Christmas #1 in the song charts in the UK in 2009 😁
Haha no way. I need more info on that though. 😅
@@MyriadofNeglect context: X Factor, the singing show, usually has Christmas no. 1 on lockdown every year. in protest, we got Killing in the Name to no. 1 instead.
they got to sing it live for the BBC because of it. other comments hold the story associated with that ('please don't swear' 'okay.' [during the song:] '___ you, I won't do what you tell me! (x3) FUCK you, I won't do what you tell me!').
And they donated the proceeds of sales to charity. @@CrowMaiden
@ good lads. I didn't actually know that before. (/genuine)
Zach has bars. I love this track as a rock banger but their other work is where he really shines
Agreed. Testify and Bomb Track are 2 of the best that come to mind
@@justjasontm bulls on parade to me is just crazy bruh, hope he react to that one in the future.
@@XOTheHosttt yesss!
"Know your enemy" is the best for me
No Shelter and People of the Sun
This band changed the way I looked at the world... I knew you would get to them sooner or later.. Zack is a militant poet for the unheard masses. Every song is a history lesson.. Us Ragers have lots of facts.. First MVS are good but to get the truth of what they're saying you need lyric videos.. I remember when they came out Knox in 91/92 been a Rager since.. This was written about the Rodney King police batting and the subsequent acquittal of those cops, which sparked the LA riots and in turn uncovered and exposed the corrupt hiring practices of the LAPD..🤘😎❤️ and I absolutely loved your breakdown.. Next up should be bullet in the head, down rodeo, take the power back, fistful of steel... I mean every songs a banger... One of these most underrated secret MC around.. I'm so glad you did this❤️❤️
Twenty-ish yrs ago, that song both brought me to hip hop and made me learn guitar
Oh Snaps
RATM are so unique. Never been a band b4 or after like them.
Check Fever 333. Found them accidentally at one music festival. They have the same energy and the same passion, bit different style. Start with One of us, and then go where research leads you if you like the first. o7
Zack’s most Hip Hop track is with Krs One and The Last Emperor it’s called “CIA (Criminals in action)”. Zack is a real MC. Check it out if you haven’t heard it I don’t know if the rage fans know it either.
Stumbled across this channel after seeing your Metallica break down, the way you dive into the meaning behind the lyrics and the music is awesome, by far the best reaction vids, keep it up man.
Long time fan and as a music educator, you’d be a great teacher bro. Love your attention to the detail and dynamics, phrasing, and your enthusiasm.
Glad your channel has found success over the years brother!
Can’t wait for the ‘Take The Power Back’ reaction!
If you haven’t, you GOTTA check out Down Rodeo by RATM lyric video. As a rap guy and someone who appreciates going hard and doubles and triples, you’ll love it. Genius level stuff.
You should do a whole rage against the machine day series!
💯 agree
Knox, your reactions are always god-tier. Your lyrics breakdown is so spot on EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
I'm going to request Killswitch Engage on every METAL MONDAY video until you do them.
I think you'd get a LOT from RATM, Knox! I'd definitely recommend Bullet In My Head and Bulls On Parade if you haven't heard those ones before (I know you said in your intro you've heard Rage before!) - if you check out the latter, check out Denzel Curry's live cover version too, I've never been a huge rap fan but Denzel went UP in my book after that one - he BROUGHT it :D
So many people hear this song and don't understand the deep meaning of it. You really explained this song so well. Thank you!!
The wedding music line 😅 I literally laughed out loud!
Love Rage!!!! Would love to see you do Sleep now in the Fire. ❤️
That was brilliantly explained. Thank you for taking a few moments to investigate the context beforehand. ❤ It really sets you apart from a lot of more casual reaction channels.
Love Killing In The Name, but it is by far there simplest song lyrically. Down Rodeo (Rodeo Drive, not Yee Haw) is what everyone wants to see a reaction to. And Mic Check is criminally underrated. Also worth checking Zachs work with Run The Jewels (Close Your Eyes and Ju$t), and C.I.A (Criminals in Action)
OMFG., shout out to you Knox for reacting to metal genre. I might be obsessed with Eminem cause i don't miss any of your reaction to Em's song but gotta say i am a proud metalhead and i am so happy i got to see you doing this. Hope you do all the legends of metal like Pantera, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold and so on. I gurantee it will sky rocket your channel. Love it man. Deepest respect❤️🤘
This brings back so many memories. Started 6th form college, started going out drinking and dancing. World of possibilities in front of me
Zack de la Rocha is such a gifted lyricist and performer. Great, thoughtful reaction! I love how thorough you were on this talking about the message, music and performance. I'm gonna need more Rage reactions, even if you've heard them all--you're just that good. If you haven't check out Zack's stuff with Run the Jewels.
Man you actually do research on all this and it shows. Thank you for putting in time and effort to decoding the message rather than just another video of someone rocking out and then being like "that was cool and good and I liked it 😀 "
I've known this song since it came out.... and I am today years old and just got the full explanation of the song and I'm blown away!
So many good rage songs to choose from. Hope you do more
Bottom line
omg so excited you did this song!! PS I recently added all your Spotify music to my phone! Love it!
you GOTTA DO MORE RAGE, your ability to analyze lyrics is impeccable and their songs are FULL OF MEANINGFUL PUNCHLINES AND METAPHORS. looking forward to more
I grew up on this( FKIN love this tune), I love a wide range of music but even now at the age of 43 I still love it just as I did as a teenager 🤪
Cool reaction. You should check out one of Rage's songs that show off one of their more lyrical songs. ie. Bulls on Parade, Bombtrack, Rodeo, Know Your Enemy. #TOOL #HOG #RATM
Ah you jest about having this song as a wedding song….we did! My husband and I love metal, as do all our friends. We made guests aware that after a certain time on the evening of the wedding reception metal music would be played by the DJ (giving older relatives the chance to leave before then if they chose). No one left. The dance floor was always packed and the wedding venue told us it was the best wedding they have hosted and were giving me and my husband free drinks all night and a bottle of champagne to go home with as all the staff had had a blast! ❤
Man, it's great to see you on the stuff I grew up with. Not gonna lie, I'm more of an Audioslave kinda guy. I got out of Rage Against the Machine as I grew up, even though I recognize their talent. Anyways, much love to ya, man, and good luck to your channel and music career.
Isn't Audioslave basically RATM with Chris instead of Zack?
@@Axys_0_Rex Yep. And one of my favorite groups from that decade. Especially that first self-titled album. Cornell could sing his booty off. And the rest of the band was extremely talented. Honestly preferred Audioslave over Soundgarden.
Still waiting for more Rage Against the Machine reactions, their lyrics are soo good. This may be the simplest song of theirs because the original demo was just an instrumental.
One of the bands I grew up listening to
Brother, you broke that down splendidly! You got it🎉🎉❤❤
Love to see more rage against the machine Knox
Oooo I like that leadin Knox!!! You just keep getting better!
I'd love it if you could react/breakdown some Architects songs. Their lyrics are really thought provoking and the music is insane. Anything from Lost Forever // Lost Together or All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, would be great. Or their live at abbey road songs for the full orchestra they included.
Seconded! They have SO MANY awesome tracks that I think Knox would have a blast with. Especially Royal Beggars/Modern Misery. Both of those music videos have some serious layers
Oooh 🤔
You got me on that one send me a link please
The funnest version of this song is the radio cut which is amazing that they would’ve even allowed it in the first place the radio or RATM
Oh I been waiting for this!!
Great Reaction, I would like to request Architects Gone With The Wind
Your breakdown earned my sub and like. Thank you! After watching others gloss over the real meaning of this one, I truly appreciated!!!
Oh wow! What a brilliant reaction!!🔥 You just got EVERYTHING all at once!
The guitarist Tom Morello, plays guitar for Chris Cornell, RIP, and Audioslave.
*Jinjer-Pisces*
"Wow Factor" nd its a Great Introduction to this Badass Band & Female Metal Vocalist that is a must on your metal journey 🤟💥
Looking forward to this one!!!
More Rage please! Darkness, Down Rodeo, Bullet in the Head, Take The Power Back, Bulls on Parade
You need to react to Prophets of Rage - Un*uck The World. Not only the lyrics are really good and strong, but also it's a rock/rap supergroup with members of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, which I think you might love as much as I do.
Us UK people got so sick of whoever the x factor winner was for the year getting a guaranteed Christmas no 1 hit, there was a movement to dethrone Simon Cowell and put this song at Christmas no 1 in 2009. It succeeded!
Did you know, it was Christmas No1 in the United Kingdom, and I was working as a radio dj at the time getting airplay and getting people to buy the track.
Would love to see you react to this entire album
Love this song. I work in a prison and listen to it on the way into work. It gets me pumped up and reminds me that not everyone is in law enforcement to do the right thing.
if you do end up doing another reaction to Rage Against The Machine, some tracks that show off Zach De La Rocha's rapping a little better include Bulls On Parade, Down Rodeo, Sleep Now In The Fire, Guerilla Radio, and Testify,
Much love to Timmy C (the bassist) as he battles prostate cancer. show him some love.
The live version on TV when they told them to not perform the end of this song is EPIC. The FCC was shiting itself.
And it’s like…. Did the network read the lyrics at all? RATM were straight up saying what they were going to do 😂
in england this went to number 1 in charts at christmas as protest against reality show manufactored music in 2009
The part where you spoke about security at the end reminded me of a show I saw of @simpleplan some kid jumped on stage security grabbed him and was apparently hitting him as they took him outside Jeff the lead guitarist stopped playing went and got the kid and took him and sat him on the stage at the side to be closure to the band and I will always love that clip I'll link here for you to watch
After this reaction I should suggest 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings' by The Smashing Pumpkins.
i will not give up on you eventually reacting to these groups this year: jessie- zoom, cold blooded, nunu nana, nct 127-favorite, 2 baddies ,nct dream- beatbox, glitch mode, superm- jopping
Imagine being 24, going to a live RATM show, this song comes on ... and then you see it ... mosh pit...
Metal is all about an emotional outlet. A few bands I'd suggest are, KoRn, Falling In Reverse, I Prevail, Chaoseum, Linkin Park, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, and of course, more Slipknot. These all fall into the nu metal genre, which is a mix of rap, rock, and metal.
You forgot Faith No More...otherwise tight list
@DerangedVoices
Hell yeah! Especially FiR and FFDP
5fpd is a must
@@charlesforay eh, they aren't horrible, but I don't really care for them. I only like three songs from them I think. So they are just meh to me. Sorry.
As a fan of RATM, I love the lyrics! They are timeless. It has everything to do with the intelligence of Zach (he has a PhD) and Tom's guitar work, but the bass and drums are fantastic. The entire band is a force of nature with the orchestration and the lyrics.
Happy New Year Knox and family.
Guitarist Tom Morello went to high school with Tool's Adam Jones and they were buds.
11.31 yes, its definitely THE wedding song! 😂
My second concert was house of pain and Rage against the machine. My first concert was ice cube
Now I wanna hear more of your break downs of RATM songs. Zack de la Rocha is an amazing lyrical rapper. I've watched so many ppl react to RATM over the years, but I've never seen anyone listen to RATM that can break the lyrics down the way you can. It would really be enjoyable. Especislly since so many seem to have forgotten the band's messages. Also I think some ppl never understood the lyrics clearly. Some of my friends never realized he rapped about police brutality, etc. Their music has become really misunderstood as of late. Like profoundly so. You're really good at analyzing every component of a song. Maybe you could help shed some light on this lyric & message issue.
New sub. I have seen one of your videos before and enjoyed your analysis but I guess forgot to sub. I'll be sure to check back.
Bullet in the Head
Bulls of Parade
Sleep Now in the Fire
Take the Power Back
Know Your Enemy
Down Rodeo
Bombtrack
Fistful of Steal

Testify
Greatest Christmas song ever
You’ve got to do more rage. Strongly recommend Sleep Now in the Fire (they shut down Wall Street), Down Rodeo (pronounced like the street in California), and Wake Up to start with 😊
I don't know how true it is but I remember reading somewhere that Rage and Cypress Hill grew up together. I do know that they have crossover songs. Check out Rages version of Hand on the Pump.
Every one of their songs slaps and the lyricism is S-tier!!
You need to listen to more metal if you think RATM lyrics are S tier lmfao Their songs are kindergarten level lyrically compared to the rest of the genre.
It's comments like yours why we're stuck seeing every reaction channel listen to the same 100 songs.
It's really unfortunate.
@@ronperreault8889 Bahahaha!! Yeah, because one comment tells you my entire life story!! You know nothing about me! How bout you stop assuming and just keep your “know-it-all” mentality to yourself! Take it easy!
@@PhatGuSS Your entire life's story can be summed up with your limited experience listening to metal?
RATM is some of the most basic level lyricism imaginable. I didn't exactly need to be a mind reader to make the assumption you need to widen your music horizons by suggesting your claim was ridiculous.
I may not know you, but I know music.
@@ronperreault8889 Hahaha! Still so presumptuous! Again, you have no basis to judge me or what you think i know. It people like you that make the internet a toxic environment and your elitist attitude is a hindrance to any public forum.
Since you know so much about me from two messages, go ahead and tell me ever detail about how i grew up, what influenced me and how deep my knowledge about music goes! I'll wait....
@@PhatGuSS With 2 comments now, in no way shape or form have I even vaguely suggested I know everything about you. Quite literally whatsoever.
I simply said your comment gave exactly enough information to make a single claim about how much music you've heard. If you think RATM songs are S tier lyrically, then clearly you need to hear more music. Their music isnt even thought provoking, let alone what you claimed to be best of the best.
I do now know 2 other things about you though. You dont read things to understand what is being said, you read them to reply and you grossly overreact to comments in a comment section.
If this conversation keeps going I might just know your whole life after all. Doing so without ever once asking you a question, nor suggesting anything you thus far claimed I've done.
Fun fact in 2009 a campaign was organised by a DJ in the uk to block a single from the television show X Factor from taking the Christmas music chart Number 1, as it had done for a consecutive four years. It was the ultimate f u to the commercialism train of uk number one going to x factor winners every year. Anarchy at its best with the lyrics I won't do as you tell me most powerful. Since this time polls continue to identify this song as the uks favourite Christmas number 1 chart topper. I do believe RATM donated funds raised during this unforseen campaign to charity.
I love, love, love listening to your song reactions and the way you breakdown all throughout their very core :)
Hats down for one of the most brilliant and intelligent deep analysis to one of my all time fav songs 👏🤗✨️
Zach is FIRE with One Day as a Lion... Jon Theodore on the drums!!!!
No one:
Me, seeing Knox enjoy this video: 🥰🥰🥰🤘🤘🤘
Getting strong vibes of your song from the intro. Like you're singing about a future that comes from what RAtM is singing about.
Have you reacted to/ or did a break down on Aesop Rock? His lyricism is on a different level .
67 y/o Black man, just subscribed. You get it… thanks.
Down rodeo is also a bomb rage song
Would absolutely love to see you react to Ren's new song "Hi Ren" Genuinely think you'd really enjoy it and take a deep dive into the lyrics.
RATM deserves another reaction in this channel, I suggest you Down rodeo or maybe know your enemy with lyrics
Awesome reaction as always man. Can you do Bullet in the Head next please another great song RATM
This song is a banger but lyrically, Rage has so many superior songs that dont get enough playtime or recognition. You should break down “down rodeo”
💯
Amazing commentaries!!!!!
I love rage, when I pull into a car show with my mean ass ram I'm usually blaring this or disturbed down with the sickness
