  • Over the course of the next few months, we will release a number of shortcut videos that will hopefully help you find some examples of appropriate stoves (given your intended use). If you have any alternate suggestions then chuck them in the comments, because that too will be very useful to anyone looking to buy a stove that will service a particular function, or type of use.
    Also, check out our website below for stove accessories, written stove reviews and stove spares like: glass, rope seals and fire bricks.

    Worth mentioning any set up should have a c/o detector but especially when using a short chimney maybe in an outbuilding. Not having a great draw can lead to problems.

    Hi there, Have you ever review on the Staffordshire made Portway Arundel MK3. Love the little Jotel 602 in the video

      I haven’t yet. I’m quite interested in this stove because it is the descendant of a very old stove called “The Tortoise”!

    I wanted to share that I recently came across a book titled "A Kind of Magic (1969)" written by Mollie Harris. It's a non-fictional story that delves into her life experiences while growing up in the real Oxfordshire during the early 1900s. In the book, she mentions an interesting detail about the stove in her school being referred to as "the tortoise." I thought it would be worth mentioning since this is the name of your channel

      That’s awesome. I’m going to have to take a look at this and see whether I can find out what it was!

      Ahh “Slow but Sure”
      Charles Portway.
      I should really buy one and keep it as a piece of history. You can still get them for £1,500-£2000, but they’re very rare (particularly in working order!).

    Hi Gabriel. Would you consider testing the Jotul f200 (or the equivalent Jotul f205)? It has a similar output to the F602 but with a more interesting focal point, as the glass is substantially larger. Take care. You’re doing a fantastic work.

      Funny you should mention that, as yes I certainly am!
      Thanks for the message!

      Not for tiny stoves 😬.
      That thing is a great stove, but if you’re going for little cabins etc then it’s definitely not the one. One of the main issues is it’s big 6” flue outlet, great for lots of reasons, but not ideal for tiny spaces.

    Can you Clean a stained Stainless steel Flue, Mine has discolored as I suspect someone sprayed cleaner on it? Can you do a video ?

      Typically when I’ve cleaned stainless flues I’ve found white spirit is the answer.

    Dear Gabriel. I watched almost all your videos concerning "tiny" stoves. I do search one for my tiny house (16 sq.m./33 cubicm). priorities were settled on small output, rear flue exit, external air input and possibly log store and availability in EU (preferably Czech rep.. My favourits are AGA Wenlock, Charnwood Aire 3 and maybe Mendip Ashcott. Built quality and control are more important than design to me. Which one of those would you recommend for occasional use in tiny house?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  7 днів тому

      The Charnwood probably has the toughest build and is perhaps the most refined.
      The Aga however may have a touch more control.
      The Ashcott will suit your occasional use, but is not perfect for your rear flue or request for control, as it’s not built for control and is likely to have a bigger problem with smoke spillage on a rear flue.
      Hope that vaguely helps.

      @@TheTortoise Many thanks, Gabriel. I really appreciate that. Seems that Charnwood or AGA will be the choice since Charnwood is avaialable around here. And AGA is just checking some latest EU approvals for their Wenlock model. I hope they will suceed, since that would be probably my first choice. Also due tu multifuel option. Mendip seems not to be appoved for import to EU at the moment, so it is out of choice anyway. Thank you again. Your reviews and info was very valuable. Stoves with such low output are not common here and I have nnot found any even within EU. Here is everything built for higher output. And for import we are probably too small market. Thanks to your channel I managed to discover many brands and find some hopefully available here. You really saved me from buying the smallest localy produced stove, but probably still too powerfull for such small tiny house. Wish you all the best in your work and look forward to check your new videos. Kind regards. Tomas

    Hi what do you think of the morso 1412 for a cottage living room setup?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  2 місяці тому +1

      The original 1410 squirrel stove was a real gem of a stove. The 1412 took that DNA and tried to modernise it. I’m sorry to say that no one was really convinced by it’s performance, but this is in part because it would naturally be compared to the original (that was miles better, and cost less money). The 1010 is the replacement for the original and I’d be interested to see how it performs, but I haven’t tried it yet.
      In terms of type of appliance, it should suit brilliantly, but it’s worth thinking about:
      The room size
      How you will use the stove
      What you will be burning
      The 1412 for example is suited to quite small rooms in an old cottage (4x5m is about the max ideally). It’s internal design favours smokeless fuel usage, and it’s generally designed for evening use.

      I’m interested in the hobbit. I have seen one, and seems quite a neat thing for a relatively cheap import. A friend of mine sells a few and is quite complimentary about them.
