Slipknot Duality - Old Composer Reaction The Decomposer Lounge
🍺🍺BEER KEG HITS? Wow, I knew I heard a layered percussive sound behind the snare but I spaced the mention - so cool!!!🔥
Could you please react to some Breaking Benjamin
The guy smashing the keg is the guy in my profile picture, Shawn "Clown" Crahan. lol
ua-cam.com/video/n7Zgz-8PsnA/v-deo.html disasterpiece by slipknot (live in london)
Watch a live performance if you haven't already. You'll love the depth that having 3 drummers adds to the performance and the sound.
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven key part 2 or Lamb of God - Overlord or 512 Please
"I push my fingers into my eyes", right as Geebz is pushing his fingers into his eyes. :P
Amazing! lmao
Epic, even!
Pure love for this comment
I was about to comment this! Freaking hilarious
(high voice) "You're a stoic industry standard"
... alrighty'then on with the show
The first song that you *forgot* is called "Before I Forget.'
lmao!
This is the comment i was looking for as soon as he said that XD
That and putting his fingers in his eyes when Corey says it, i think subconsciously he's a maggot 🤣
Sorry to ruin your joke dude: ua-cam.com/video/zNDb_h41I1I/v-deo.html
@@BrunoViecelli Doesn't ruin the joke, just shows you can't read or can't listen, maybe both?
Lmao!
I laughed on the final part.
Corey: "All I got is insane"
Geebz: "That was insane"
Most lyrics on line are incorrect, he says instinct. As in “all I’ve got is instinct”
@@familiarsting4108 sorry, he's clearly saying "Insane".
@@familiarsting4108 Actually, a lot of lyric sites contain the wrong lyrics because of clowns that don't know what they're talking about being allowed to edit lyric websites.
He says insane.
@@brandoncrow3741 you right, I’ve been delusional this whole time. My bad. I feel like instinct would be a better fit, but I respect Corey’s decision.
Oh ok I'm no native english speaker but I'm pretty sure to hear "insane"
"That was insane". Yes, that´s because that´s all he´s got.
Man this comment is underrated. Thanks for the laugh friend.
@@johnyurkovich 😁
Holy shit this should be top comment.
Corey, looking through his CDs:
“ALL I’VE GOT IS NSYNC”
😂😂
This ones usually the "gateway" song into their music. Very catchy!
'Wait and Bleed' is the gateway for Metal fans, 'Duality' is the gateway for more Mainstream/"pop fans".
This and wait and bleed were my introduction!
@@robmoon3061 My intro to Slipknot was the live Spit it Out from Download in London and it peaked my interest. Then found the Psychosocial video and was blown away! Been a fan ever since! 🤘💕
Wait and Bleed😎
Psychosocial is also a gateway I think. At least it was for me
Fact: Me and 4 of my friends are actually in the “Duality” music video. They shot the video in Iowa and we were able to make our way from Illinois to the video site. It was a long grueling day.
Man, when that video came out there’s nothing I wished more than to be in that video.
You are my friend.
Nice one dude. I was at the concert shown on the video for Mars Needs Women by Rob Zombie lol
Nice one dude. I watch that video and think that would’ve been the best and hardest day in those kids lives up to that point.
Damn dude, I'm jealous. I was supposed to be there but my boss wouldn't give me the day off.
Looking back, I should have just quit that job...
"Old guy composer fail, shouldn't try to be cool".
Really made me laugh. It's not easy putting yourself out there, and building a bit of a persona while still remaining an authentic human being.
You're doing great. You are cool.
Cool AF.
There is a beer keg being hit with an aluminum baseball bat in the percussion too.
I always have to hit the air keg!
Very nice
I wonder how many people have actually hit something metal with an aluminum bat. Unless you're a masochist, you need to wear some sort of gloves because the sting it creates in the hands is off-the-charts painful.
@@killermonjero furreal. instant carpal tunnel pain 😬
@@killermonjero I've seen a video where Clown talked about the nerve damage in his hands from doing that, but he keeps doing it because nothing else "sounds right".
Corey: "All I've got is insane!"
Geebz: "That was insane..."
Couldn't help but chuckle
Just figured you'd want to know - this is a 9-piece band and that includes two percussionists in addition to the drummer - that's why you hear such power in the beat that isn't equaled by any other band. Also, just to answer your question - they do tend to use Drop B tuning on many of their songs - especially their early songs.
Yah let's do the count...Lead Voice...percussion/keg pounder x2...turntable...lead and rhythm guitars x2...bass...drummer...I'm missing the 9th? What am I missing?
@@MatthewBousumonline Craig on the keyboard
@wakenbaker-uk I'm starting to see more 2 drummer live bands these days. Lucky them, it's hard enough to find ONE good drummer that is reliable
@@AlexSolomon91 Thanks! I was drawing a blank!
@@MatthewBousumonline no worries my dude
When I do pinch harmonics, I use the side of my thumb right as pick the string.
yeah do them the same way pick hits the string first then once the string is released from the pick it hits the side of my thumb
The only way I know is pinch harmonics
That's how everyone I know does it
That's the way my guitar teacher showed me too.
Weirdly, I use my middle finger on my right hand to hit the harmonic. I know it's weird, but works for me
"If the pain goes on I'M NOT GONNA MAKE IT!!!!"
Mood.
My favorite reactions to Slipknot are from music professionals who can explain what about it works for them and why.
Thank you for the awesome reaction/analysis
Totally agree, channels like Rick Beato or this one add so much to the song by knowing what the fuck they’re talking about 😂 I don’t watch any other reactions of guys just sitting there and going „that’s insane bro“
Gotta check out "Solway Firth" from their latest album...an amazing track (one of my personal favorite Slipknot songs)
If you don’t mind me asking, When did you become a fan?
@@familiarsting4108 probably around 2012ish? Not exactly sure
Solway Firth is such an awesome track....it’s my favourite off WANYK album 🤘🏻
I've been a fan since day 1. Was watching bootleg VHS Slipknot concerts in 1999, and I agree 100%, Solway Firth is one of their best songs hands down. Masterpiece.
@@stirl Same boat, man. They lost me a little over the years but as soon as I heard Solway, I was fully roped in for the latest album... Such strong power, and the ending is just MEATY.
I've never really been a fan of Slipknot, but I'll always tip my hat to Corey Taylor. That man has such a unique tone and impressive vocal, and he himself has said he's always looking for that perfect lyric which has pushed him to create music across various genres. He's awesome.
try some of his solo stuff much more relaxed.
Corey is diverse. He's also incredibly intelligent and complex. I have to give him big props for going big and being able to escape iowa. It seems like this place is impossible to escape.
1:48 Did you intentionally push your fingers into your eyes there? that was spot on!
Slipknot is an amazing band. Personal favorite of theirs is Surfacing, definitely a huge request if you do more Slipknot!
Yeah. Awesome tune.
More slipknot and mudvayne and nu metal bands
Tool profile pic 🙌
You're using the fleshy part of the hand to find an artificial harmonic, like if you play a note and tap a harmonic. Pinch harmonics like these ones are created by following through after picking and connecting the edge of the thumb with the freshly picked string. It usually results in a higher register harmonic than you'd get with the artificial type mentioned above.
If that makes sense.....
This is the way
You explained it better than I lol
As Jayson mentioned, better than how I put it 😂
What the fuck is a semi harmonic though
@@calebbean1384 that one is beyond me! Kind of half way between a normal note and a full pinch? Like if you accidentally caught the string on the way through with your thumb but didn't dig in fully like you would for the pinch?
I'd love to see someone finally react to "the virus of life" and "Prosthetics"....hope youl be the first!!
Check out the channel Laurenseewrite. She has a lot of Slipknot reactions, for example Prosthetics and Virus of life (ua-cam.com/video/ap-dbiCprM8/v-deo.html)
Yeah, or skin ticket 🤘🏻
and scissors, skin ticket and iowa they all have the same vibe
aaand purity, vermilion 1 & 2 and killpop...i hate it when people start off their slipknot experience with the "hits" and stuff from vol.3 onwards...they should establish the REAL slipknot image in their mind from the first 2 albums n then move on to the rest to experience their growth as the band did n we did as old ass fans
Definitely Prosthetics!
You'll definitely like "Left Behind" off their album "Iowa". Still one of the best tracks they ever made.
Left behind introduced me to slipknot when I was 12, lol I still remember being afraid of the video but liking the song 😂😂😂
Top tier band with a great historical catalogue, legendary drummer, and oh yeah their vocalist is pretty good too you could search up some of his acoustic/live stuff.
Old school slipknot is a mood man. Bad day at work? You know what it is
Pinch harmonics the easiest way to get them is to use your pick thumb where you pick the note and flick your wrist so your pick thumb hits the string right after the note... kinda like a flam note :)
The flam analogy is great. Pick-to-thumb flam.
@@ec8107 Thanks!
YES GEEBZ you’re choosing some really awesome tracks !
I'm literally head banging so hard!! I listen to this song every morning. It's my go to to get me awake and ready for work. Incredible song and band.
Love the channel! Learning a lot from you and your followers about music and what to listen for. Thank you!
You're helping me notice things that I've missed so many times in listening to this track. I appreciate what you're doing with your channel. Thank you, from a struggling musician!
Please try CLUTCH: "Electric worry."
Yes yes yes yes
Yeah! Not enough people give Clutch their due!
Oh hell yeah, clutch is amazing. Cypress grove, electric worry, burning beard, escape from the prison planet. So many good tracks from these legends
I think their song ghost has more musical engineering that he'd be able to speak about. Clutch is such an underrated band.
Yeah, Clutch needs to be done on this channel
I love your reactions so much, you are truly one of the best reactors out there, i myself love to listen for all the little things in songs and admire the time and effort really put into the song. So i must recommend you do a complex Queen song, like The March of The Black Queen, The Millionaire Waltz, or maybe The Prophets Songs. These underrated and appreciated songs that truly show how high of a level Queen's musicianship really was, all of them.
Dude, you rock! I really enjoy watching your videos and it really feels like I am experiencing this with you.
Great job as always! More Slipknot please!
Try “the nameless”. Choppy perfect insanity. I think you will like. Then vermillion parts1&2. EMOTIONAL
Anything from vol. 3 you can’t go wrong
Their best album, period.
Omg, thank you for reminding me this song exists, the switches to acoustic are heartbreakingly beautiful
@@HohnerCornell lol not even close
@@JeremyBarbell haha man, i've been listening to Slipknot more than 20 years, think and like what you want.
@@HohnerCornell I have too. But to me, Slipknot became boring and generic, like so many other bands out there. With Self Titled and Iowa they had something different. Then they toned it down and became uninteresting. Though I did like WANYK.
A big special thank you for reacting to the full studio version. Really burns my bunions when people react to the music video version with the shortened bridges. Namaste, papa Geebz.
Ehhhh... I actually kinda prefer that version haha sorry
Yeeeees!! More Slipknot! Love your content
Damn i love sitting back and getting medicated and listening to your take on a lot of types or music. I just listened to your take on TOOL and I'm so happy you did that!! Thank you brother
This chorus hits on the AND OF 4 over the bar line in the rhythm section, and yes the hanging vocal over the following bar line adds so much to the floating feeling. Great track.
You are a really cool guy, and I love that you fully consider people's choices in music. You give an honest reaction and it really seems like you enjoy listening to songs that people suggest. Subscribed!
By the way, Audioslave Gasoline in New York is a song you don't want to miss. The live version is better than studio in my opinion. Give it a listen with all of us around!
I'm so happy that you did this🤘 I'm plugging you on my Facebook page lol keep doing what you do✊ ALRIGHT!!
Bro, your comments at the end are everything. 🙏
Need disasterpieces by them, song is absolutely amazing
The best from IOWA!!! A masterpiece!
@@rafanj824 yes 🤘🤘

"My wormwood meets your pesticide"
Slipknot is so heavy, they need multiple drummers, including a percussionist and a concussionist.
😁
Did the wielding of the bat constitute the concussionist? Lol
@@jessicashenefield1546 yeah, if they don't hit the empty beer keg at the right angle it just might be 🤣
Geebz my man! Love the content.
Just found your channel, subbed! Your broadcast format is super chill and it feels like a smart discussion about music without going over a typical listeners head. Great stuff!
Aloha bud! I think it might be worth it to check out some Machinehead- specifically from either The Blackening or Unto the Locust- which are by my money, their two best albums.
It's also important to recognize that the entire band was more or less self taught until Locust, where they actively sought out classical training for their instruments to try and get some new sounds out of them.
Great albums, Burn My Eyes and The Burning Red are my favourite but I'm more old school metal
YES! Burn my eyes is such a masterpiece. Perfect metal album imo, although I also like The Blackening and Into the Locust.
If I'd have to pick a song, Davidian 😘
@@Zhgarr ooooh Davidian is a great choice! I'd almost want to directly compare it with Darkness Within, just in how sonically different those two are, but also.... I kinda wanna hear what Our Dear Decomposer has to say about Locust's title track
Just did a cover of this song yesterday...lol this song is brilliant!!! great video man! Love to hear your take and input!
Nice cover dude

Nicely done, sir!
Dude, I my deepest respect to you for the huge broadband of variety of the songs you analyse. Like it.
I don't know how to play any instrument but I've always loved music and been into more then just listening to songs I like. I've always really enjoyed and appreciated the subtle things you explain. You've taught me an assload about tracks I've always loved. Thank you!!
People always recommend the radio songs of bands when the deep tracks are always the best.

It was my favorite band but in my teens years. Thanks for the memories
Rock on Geebz. Next for slipknot you must do Eyeless. And of course you gotta do Vltimus Monolith. Blow you away! 🤘🎸🥁
Guys, who else thinks he will really enjoy Opeth - Eternal rains will come?
💯💯 Though Moon Above, Sun Below would be solid as well.
YES!
Or the drapery falls. But yes any Opeth.
Slippy!!!! So excited for another reaction to these amazing guys!!!
Great song and great review. Thanks for hours of entertainment, Geebz. I really like how you take a song that I think I know inside and out, and then immediately point out all these things I've never noticed, which reinvigorates my love for the song. If you ever do a breakdown for a post-metal band like Isis (In Fiction is one of my fav songs by them) or Cult of Luna (In Awe Of, Adrift, Dark City Dead Man, really ANY of their songs) I would probably hurt my mouse hand from clicking so fast. Either way, keep rocking on!
Leo from Frog Leap Studios does an incredible acoustic cover of this
Absolutely needs to be noted that an empty keg is being blasted with an aluminum baseball bat throughout the "composition"
Some slipknot for the decomposer eh? Siiiiick!!! Love to see it man. Happy the channel is blowin up a little too!!
Love that you're getting started with Vol 3, I think it's their most accessible and still at times most brutal record.
When I play pitch harmonics I turn my pick a certain way so that the pick hits first but the string gets muted quickly by my thumb. I actually learned pinch harmonics because of this song a few years back
Love the channel. To get the pinch harmonic, most people including myself, when picking the string just dig in a little more and touch the string straight after with your thumb just above the pick. The pitch changes depending on where on the length of the string you pick. I hope that makes sense lol.
Yep, I just shift my thumb down towards the pick point slightly and pick straight through. Sounds like they're getting one that would be notated or in tablature, so either just slightly above the bridge pup or a little higher toward the neck
@@ryangross714 you can go up and down the string and get a ton of deferent notes whilst fretting the same note, though some are better than others
Slipknot has always had a special place in my playlist in life. My older brother had a few singles from _Iowa_ and _Vol. 3,_ on his ipod and I happened to come across and buy _All Hope Is Gone_ and played that album maybe 500 times front to back.
_Gehenna_ has one of my fav solos from them and leads into an outro that feels like it goes on and on. _'Til We Die_ has a fantastic and almost haunting melody that chills you and always makes me happy going back to.
Love the vid's Geebz! Keep them coming, awwright!
Such a perfect rock song. Absolute badass! Drums, guitars, vocals - all's just killing it!
About the jazz-metal thing; going to parties with musicians you’ll see metalheads by themselves, the pop and rnb folks won’t really mingle. The same goes for jazzers, they’ll be sitting by themselves and no one wants to talk (it’s gonna get all technical and who wants that). Then the jazzers see the metalheads, at first a bit put off by the tattoos, beards and attitude…the metalheads a bit put off by the fact that the jazzers aren’t pissed and have had a shave, and nice pants, then they’ll sit down and talk measures and tempo, times and syncopations for hours. A musical match made in heaven. Musical nerds to a fault. I love it.
Cynic, Atheist, Human era Death comes to mind
quickly becoming my favorite reaction channel. How about some more Metallica? Something like Orion would be great. :)
Love your takes on music 👍
My boi Geebz! Spot on mate
Listen to the song "The Shape" from their Iowa album, it's super interesting from the sound point of view. One of their most underrated songs in my honest opinion
That's my favorite song from slipknot

good stuff, one of the few Slipknot songs I can really get into and makes my playlist, although not a frequent listen.
Hey Geebz! Enjoying your vids very much! In regards to the pinch harmonic question, I particularly do it differently than what you described. I hold the pick much closer to the point so that when i strike the string it also hits my thumb immediately after it hits the pick, it's all done in one motion. Hope this helps!
"selkies" by between the buried and me. Geebz...trust me.
I was thinking Extremophile elite, but Selkies is a solid choice as well.
He'd trip over the outro(edit) and what they worked into that. 😂
Yes!! BTBM is a great rabbit hole to go down!
No no, Swim to the Moon. I want that 40 min video
Aloha! Corey Taylor has a great voice, love his solo stuff and Stone Sour as well. Worth checking out, cheers!
Definitely, I may even like Stone Sour more than Slipknot. And those Burbank EPs!
My 16yrs old self is really happy to be listening to this...right now. "I push my fingers into my eyes it's the only thing that stops the ache... " ♡ NEXT: Korn, Everything I've Known.
I don't know why, but this song sounds SO emotional. Love this !!
How about doing some classic prog? Like Firth of Fifth by Genesis?
Do "from the sky" by Protest the Hero
Hey Geebz, thanks for the hard work you put into your channel and hope you're enjoying the ride! I just wanted to point out that lately you've been suggesting that people go to your channel and use the search bar within it to find specific bands you've done reactions for, but that doesn't work on the YT phone app or the PS4 app. I dunno if it works on the normal site on PC (I almoat never use PC) but if I search from your channel on my phone it searches all of YT, not limited to within your channel. What's next?
Vaguely remembering dead memories.
Don't worry, Geebz. You're cool no matter what. It's just part of who you are, and part of why we're all here.
Great review! Generally when I do pinch harmonics on the guitar I roll my picking thumb over and lightly touch the string directly after picking. Then simply bend the note to your content. :) I love slipknot and would love for you to check out just how raw they were on the first album. Give a try to anything off their debut self titled album. Some of the tracks off the beaten path really capture their appeal of being something different when they first started out.
One of my favourite guitar riffs - sweet spot 0 and 1 drop B with the pinch harmonics from two different guitarists; fantastic
I love watching you react facially to the composition. It reminds me of the old days lmao!
love the content, there are a ton of bands I could list but randomly I just thought of Lacuna coil- heavens a lie might be a good change of pace since it is a female singer
This was a fantastic appraisal; Slipknot we're a hard one for me to get into when I was a teenager as they had a bit of a reputation for being 'too heavy', whereas these days into my late 20s I exist on a diet of death metal and black metal hahahaha. Oh how I wish young me could see me now!
Anyway, thanks for all the videos you do, your style, chill, mellow vibe and expert knowledge and affable personality make you my go to when I want to be entertained, informed and relaxed. Thanks Geebz!
A quick side note - if you have any room left at all on your ever growing list of songs to check out (and please take care not to get burnt out - I don't want you to ever stop!) I would be ecstatic if you could check out either 1) some newer stuff by Dir En Grey, or 2) anything by a band called Moonsorrow. They are a hypnotic blend of black metal, folk, Prog, and pagan music and to me are like a viking version of Tool haha
